  • Should you read Minimum Wage Magic? A Quick review covering Rachel Aaron's first book in the DFZ series. A science fiction, cyberpunk, urban fantasy thriller exploring the ins and outs of the Detroit Free Zone. A return to booktube here for me as I have taken a break, but I'm very excited for the new 2022 year for books Fantasy and otherwise, and I can't wait to be dropping more Cosmere and Wheel of Time videos VERY soon!

Slowly grabbing this book off your bookshelf so I can start reading it. Loving the idea of the Spirit of the City!

This one seems fun! I always like when cyberpunk is mixed with other stuff, including fantasy elements. Cyberpunk already has an aesthetic of, like, overwhelming variety, so it feels like a great mix.

The variety and clash of magic with the Cyberpunk aspects def felt really felt cohesive and unique, got the best of both worlds for sure!

I reall enjoyed this series, I find the next couple books in the series really build on the characters in interesting ways. I really like the dynamic of Nik and Opals relationship and the relationship she has with her family. I wont spoil but they really build up her fathers character and give him some development and explained things from his perspective. Without handwaving all the problems he caused Opal and all the mistakes he made. I will say the last book was probably my least favorite it had the most interesting premise but I don't feel like it was executed well. I would have loved to see a little bit more of the outcome of the series, an epilogue or something to see how all the new changes set up at the end effected everyone but thats a bit of a minor complaint.

@@Laxxia_ Its a fun series. I actually wish there was a fourth book. I feel like theres more interesting places the characters could go and the DFZ is so fun. I can't get over how cool the setting is.

when he says a deus ex machina that is totaly false dfz is a spin off series and the god of the forgotten dead is a main character in the previous series hearstrikers it is established in that series that you can comunicate with ghosts especialy in the sea of magic and its also established that the god of the forgotten dead and the dfz kinda have a special relationship as both know marcy the first merlin well and the dfz kinda owes her a debt
