- Should You Read Gardens of The Moon? The Malazan Book of The Fallen series by Stephen Erikson is an epic fantasy series that is famous in fantasy and scifi circles as one of the toughest to follow books. People really just need a Malazan explained video for all of the confusion even in 2021 they are releasing more and more of these books and I'm so excited to start this journey

See I never found the deliberate difficulty presented to the reader as cruel or mean spirited. I was actually attracted to the aspect of how much trust Erikson puts in the reader. And for that I felt like he respected me more than other authors who did not trust that I could piece together what I needed to know.
I love the Malazan books, always happy to see more people read them.
I'm really excited to read the rest!! I just need to take brain breaks between them lmaoo
Bone phone! I had totally forgotten about that! 😂 Fantastic review! Great description of how information is filtered, out-of-the-blue moments, and importance of focusing on the here and now as you read. Words of wisdom, indeed! I am about to start book 8 in the series, and I'm finding the themes, characters, prose, humor, and world-building phenomenal. Enjoy!
Ah! Thank you so much, I'm really excited for how we are going to see this world grow as I read on. I didn't touch too much (or maybe at all) on the comedy, but he really does have that gallows humor, that soldiers comedy on lock and it was always a good tone balancer with all the dark and grime throughout
Well I guess I'm going to start reading this series now.
YESSSSSS
Who is the protagonist of Malazan...? "Woah, woah, woah... We don't do that here". Great video. I am always happen to see more people read this series. I am currently in book 6, The Bonehunters. Keep up the good work and I look forward to more of your Malazan content.
Thank you!! I'm excited to read more ^^
You pointed out some good strengths and weaknesses of Gardens here, I really like your video! Gardens feels a bit different from the rest of them, because he wrote it 9 years before the other nine (that came once per year afterwards). It gets less confusing and all that on purpose mystery - yes, it's on purpose - makes room for some mind blowing reveals later.
I am reading the 8th book now and by the end of the second book I knew this would be my favourite series/world ever!
Can't wait to see more videos from you!
Amazing video man!! Im on book 8 of the Malazan Book of the Fallen and it has become my favourite series ever! Really enjoyed your review of gardens of the moon, I liked your passion. Cant wait for you to reach Deadhouse Gates...
I hear its peak for the series, I'm really really excited to get there, and thank you!! I appreciate the kind words, it really means alot
Welcome to the Malazan Fandom! Loved your video. I can't wait to hear how you feel about the rest of the series!
Thank you thank you, Glad to be here!! I'm super excited for what's to come
That was a nice start. Can’t wait to hear your thoughts as the series unfolds!
PS: Erikson will frequently give a boom-final-book- scene clímax and end then ends books with another thing entirely. He’s a mean person 😂❤️
He's so cruel! He must thrive on his readers frustration lmaoo
Mike's Book Reviews is doing his first read now, he is into Bone Hunters. You may want to check out some of his reviews as you complete yours and see what you both like and what you find contrary, I will tell you he does not like Kruppe. Sometimes with a series like this it is easy to get frustrated early on and it is nice to see others going through the same thing. Good review, I am looking forward to seeing how you like Seven Cities in Deadhouse Gates.
Oh I'll def have to check it out!
wooh laxxia this made me wanna continue with it even though I had dnfed it
Oh yes!! That's exciting, my job is done.
Steven Erikson has said before that he loves teasing the reader and being intentionally frustrating lol
Pushed through the first then thought the second will be more clear less of a slog but nope it's worse or as bad so DNF'd. If the story is so amazing don't bore and confuse me for 2/3 of each book.
Keep reading kid, I'm dying to see how it goes for you.
Thanks for the feedback / the only reason why I leave this comment is because of the volume levels for your video. i have to go 100% so I can barely hear what you are saying.
keep it going tho
Hey I appreciate it!! I'll make sure to keep this in mind when I edit next! Audio is certainly a thing I've been trying to tune a bit more
Great review!
GotM has probably the weakest climax in the whole series. It's less weird and 'out of the blue' on reread though.
This is really good to hear!! Gives me a lot of hope 🥰🥰
as you progress the series you'll realize that yes erikson is not just mean, he is evil
The pacing was awful, I put it down numerous times, and almost didn't get through it. Worldbuilding was great.
That's fair! There are certainly times I wish we just kept going with something only to go over to a completely different POV
@@Laxxia_ It's got SOOOO many characters in it... it's crazy.
