  • Enjoy the 4K SIGHT and SOUND of literally millions of gallons of water, literally going down a drain. The North half of the San Francisco Bay Area just experienced 2 days of a direct hit from an "Atmospheric River", which soaked the Lake Berryessa watershed with 10 to 15" of rain. Lake Berryessa went up 6 feet in just 3 days, and it peaked out on February 27th, 2019 at 4.1' above the spillway, known as the "Glory Hole". (When the lake overflowed in 2017, it peaked out at 3.5' over.)
The water discharge peaked this afternoon as the storm has passed. Water discharge reached about 9,500 Cubic Feet Per Second. Normal winter flow, is less that 1000 CFPS. Normal Summer outflow is 500-700 CFPS.

As a kid I use to see the spillwell as my parents brought us to our weekend getaway at our families double wide trailer in Rancho Monticello. The last time I was there was around 18 years old. I am 45 now. I only remember a few years where the water level was even near the top of the spillwell but most of the time it was never near it because of all the draught years. This is great to see the water level so high. Never thought I would see info about Lake Berryessa on youtube or in the news. The last I heard they lost the lease for people having summer homes in Putah Creek, Rancho Monticello, Spanish Flats and I think the first area was called Marina (maybe wrong on that.) My family pulled out when word of the lease would not be renewed. My grandfather was also dock master for some years at Rancho Monticello. I remember as a kid walking from road F to the store, playing some pinball machines and buying candy. Learning how to water ski and the water ski competitions they had there. Not to mention the crazy people jumping off the bridge into the water. Great memories of that place and many picture I still look at today including pictures of the spilwell and dam. Thank you for this post Evan, it brought back great memories.

In Sep last year it was six feet below the rim. Great fishing lake spent many nights on Lake Berryessa. FYI The Glory Hole spillway water run down through Vacaville all the way into the Suisun Bay another great fishing spot. Thanks for the upload.

holding your breath would be the least of your problems if you fell into that. the spillway pipe has a 90 degree bend in it, picture that, if you were falling on the outside of that bend your trip might be survivable if you're lucky. if you fall down the inside of that bend though you'll be hitting concrete head on with nothing to stop you
