The Retroid Pocket Flip is the first new form factor we've seen from Retroid in a while.
My first impressions left me unsure of my feelings about the clamshell device, but after spending some time gaming on it, I've reached a conclusion!

One thing I didn’t mention around build quality is it does seem the hinges crack fairly easily for some people.
I don’t have this issue but figured it’s worth mentioning.
Is this a problem you’ve run into too?

I just got my Retroid Pocket 3+ about a week ago and I'm absolutely obsessed with it. I got it mostly for N64 and Dreamcast. I actually avoided the Flip specifically because of the thumbsticks and because I have larger hands so I have 0 regrets with getting the 3+.
I had the Pocket Flip for about two weeks before it died on me and I had to send it back for refund. It just wouldn't power on anymore. So now I'm using my Pocket 3+ that I bought before the Flip. I enjoyed the form factor of the Flip more but at least the 3+ works with no issues. Maybe one day I'll try the Flip again.

I had the same ergonomic complaints about the 3ds. I never really WANTED to play it and It made my hand hurt after a while.
I’m going down a path of all of the iterations of 3DS, probably / hopefully for a video! What model of 3DS did you use when you found it not ergonomic? I think the 2DS is my contender for worst ergonomics 😂
@@ScatteredBrain the original form factor ( i have the Zelda special edition). the 3ds xl was better but still not super great. The switch however is perfect.
Shame you didn't mention the hinge cracking issues. I've seen tons of reports of the hinges cracking on this device, but I haven't seen any reviewer discussing these issues.
I personally had one of the sports red flips and with light use the hinge cracked on me, luckily retroid had pretty good customer service and they refunded me my flip
I did fail to mention that - I’ll pin it as something to look out for or keep in mind! I have seen people mention this on Reddit.

I think the excitement has already moved on to the Retroid Pocket 2S at this point. Similar emulation performance at a $99 price point.
I’ve got mine on pre order! Will have a video for it pretty much as soon as I get it!
@@ScatteredBrain I pre ordered the clear black 4GB. Not sure if the extra RAM is worth it but the extra storage seemed like a reasonable upgrade.
I'm having a tough time getting excited about the 2S due to the small screen. The aspect ratio, resolution and size don't fit the chipset. The T610 is well-capable of 3x PSP and widescreen hacks/cheats/ patches up through some GameCube and PS2.
@wingsfromheaven8788 @SDSakuragi I think this is one of the few times a retro emulation handheld maker is releasing a new product that isn’t meant to replace the entirety of the existing lineup. The 2S (at least I don’t think without getting my review out there) isn’t meant to be replace a pocket 3+ or instead of a flip, but a different device to consider. The flip is still a unique form factor. But we’ll see!

The tensed up way you hold the device, I can totally imagine you getting cramped hands. Not to knock you, but it looks weird.
😂 yea. Ergonomic… this device is not… plus add in making sure I’m holding it at an angle good for the camera, but even off-camera I really disliked playing games on the flip!

I don't think everyone if flipping out over this handheld especially with the 2S coming out. Perhaps this video is a few months too late.

That’s what’s great about the emulation handheld community. There’s TONS of these things so we CAN be picky and we CAN expect better. But this is just my opinion. I’m not telling anyone how to think or feel.
