There exists a Drum Cam of Danny playing this song. It is mindboggling what the man does on the drum kit. Well worth a watch even if not as a reaction. Is is simply fantastic.
Yess, i was gonna recommend the exact same thing. Its absolutly hypnotic to see. Definitly worth the watch.
Must watch!
Excellent video of a phenomenal drummer.
Yes it's an awesome view of a God on drums
It's phenomenal ❤❤❤
You have to react to the drum cam for this song now! Danny Carey, Tool's drummer, will blow your mind in that vid and give you a whole new appreciation for their music.
I believe they pronounce it "New-Mah". There's a drum cam of Danny Carey playing this song on the Vic Firth channel, well worth a watch to see "The Octopus" in action! It has 33 million views at the moment.
100% worth watching the percussion action Danny Carey showcases, daver18qc is spot on with the recommendation.
That cam view is a must.
Everyone is a Tool fan. Some just don't know it yet.
I put myself on pre-order for this album. Yes, I bought the CD. 13 years from 10,000 Days left some us deprived of their genius.
Funny fact: they launched this the same day as Taylor Swift's Lover album, and Tool absolutely dominated sales and streaming. I don't have anything against Taylor and her Swifties, but it was hilarious to see her numbers just get crushed.
The Tool Army arrived.
I bought the CD as well. I want to own the best possible quality of all my favorite music
Drum cam, drum cam, drum cam!!!!
Tool doesn't make music. They make art. Art has no time limit.
I am going to a tool concert in my hometown in a few months when they are touring through europe and I am beyond excited. The live Version of Danney Carey playing this opened my eyes to Drumming in a new way. I highly recommend you watch the Danney Carey - Pneuma live drum cam, Reaction or private. I love watching masters of their craft at work
Get ready my friend
The drummer is a master at timing signatures. Most of their music switches between them within a song. At first, I had trouble with this band because I wasn't used to it within the metal genre. I've learned to accept it now. This song switches between 12/8, 11/8, and 10/8, with a tempo of 114 BPM. People are mostly used to 4/4.
Istg Danny's existance is a masterclass in music theory. His grasp of polyrhythmic beats is insaneeeeeeeeee
@@predatorkitten Absolutely! He is the reason I stuck with the band. I was really turned off at first. My father was an opera singer and conductor. He would explain to me as a kid about this stuff (I'm 54). I look back now and realize how much that opened my eyes to other types of music and how technical it can be. My husband is a guitarist and he went to MIT in LA back in the day. I got to learn through him about theory and whatnot. I look for talent now more than just a specific genre (not that I listen to opera or anything but you know what I mean LMAO).
Tool is next level. Deep and substantive AF. They will hypnotize you if you allow it.
When main bass phrase comes in...
2-3-3-3-3-2-3-3-3-3-2-3 (x4) - could be thought of as 33/8 I guess, but I don’t think anyone wants to think of a long count like that
Then short measure when the phrase goes up in pitch
2-3-3-3-3-3-2-3-3 (25/8)
Then back long
2-3-3-3-3-2-3-3-3-3-2-3 (33/8)
another prime example of a great truth in our world: *the 'Tool stankface' is real, and it is universal.*
highly recommend watching the Vic Firth drum cam of Danny Carey, just so you can *see* the polyrhythmic glory of the middle section. one of my favorite songs of all time; if you haven't listened yet, go for track three on this album, as well: Invincible.
Yeeeessssss I got to see this tour live TWICE and it was SOOOOO GOOOOD. Vic Firth drum cam is impeccable.
Only bad thing about Tool is once you see them at the right venue everything after is a letdown.
Great video, I love watching people discover Tool. You should totally do the Live version on this that's a Drum cam on Danny Carey (the octopus 🐙) the vic flirth video
If you do, keep In mind Danny is 60 in the video. He also used to play basketball so he's literally like 6'8".
Can't wait for more
Ps. The Grudge, Maynard holds a 25 second belt 😮
Yeah we are talking physical copies. Tool fans like to hold a CD or the album in our hand and get the artwork that comes along with it.
Fear innoculum came in a case that had a video screen on it that plays a video and pages of artwork
We can all thank Adam for us wanting physical copies.
Check out Tool live performance of Pneuma, shot from the cam showing Danny Carey performing live this masterpiece
to me this is almost like a culmination of their talent, This song is my favorite song theyve done and its really hard to chose
I'm so happy you discovered Tool. My favorite band. Now we have something in common 💜
I used to watch your BTS videos and now you're reacting to Tool which is my favourite band. Love it!
In order to appreciate all the percussion, you should check out the Danny Carey drum cam of the same song. Dude is a master.
Tool is the human experience IQ music. It never ages and you will continuously learn from it.
@anthonyrayreacts gotta watch the drum cam of Danny playing this live. Everyone of these sounds is programmed into his drum pads he used along with his kit. Except the keyboard sound synth. Thats a pedal on the guitar.
Definitely Danny’s Drum Cam.
Anthony! so nice to see you finally letting yourself go in one part of the song, closing your eyes, and just becoming with the music, without going for the analysis! lol It is so difficult to not want to analyze everything you are hearing from them because it is always unexpected! haha but letting yourself go deep in their music is even better than getting to understand it at the first listening!
The physical copy is amazing, has a 7" digital screen in the cover, showing a unique video called "Recusant ad Infinitum"
That last drum fill was insane.
Pneuma means "breath" in greek, but also means "soul" or "spirit".
Pneuma is the Greek analogy to the Hebrew "Ruach Hakodesh" or breath of the living Spirit.
Just wait till you see the drum cam of this song. It gives you an extra appreciation of a drummer's skill; specifically Danny's skill
Must watch the drum cam to this song.
They finally release all albums digitally a week after the drop of this Album. Great tool reactions ! Thank you for your ability to be inciteful of the music and not pausing annoyingly. Super looking forward to watch more of your channel. Check out Wings For Marie 1&2 from the 10,000 days album.
The instrument at the beginning is essentially an electronic drum pad. Danny designed it himself.
If i am not mistaken the beat after the "intro" is 35/8, until the refrain which is 4/4
33/8
I’ve seen them perform this song live twice, both after Danny turned 60. His technical ability is amazing
You should really do the live drum cam for this song. Danny Carey is an absolute wizard on the drums.
They make 90% of their music with the instruments they pla(guitar, bass, drums, vocals)with different types of pedals and effects
How many of us are eagerly awaiting and watching for the drum cam reaction ?????.
I love that tool took you back to playing with your action figures.
But synchopation and polymetrics are two different things. Synchopation is when you place notes or stress between the beats. Polymetrics is when you play different time signatures simultaneously. Tool do both things. Plus they also use additive rhythms, where you string measures of different time signatures together in complex patterns (like this song)
New MA, more Tool!! My band 31 yrs!! 4 superb musicians😊❤
drum cam video is a must see....
Watch the drum cam version to get a better understanding of the octopus that is Danny Carey
For me it’s something mixed out of Pink Floyd and The Doors. Very nice
With how much you are enjoying the flow of the musicscape that Tool produces, another band that I believe you would enjoy is called Sleep Token. Their track The Summoning is a definitely a journey to experience.
My mum grew up on de Rosestraat, Rotterdam in the 50s and early 60s, then moved to New Zealand
Now do the Danny Carey Drum cam video of this song live
The song ends when they are done talking to us - someone in chat
This song is like weed for your brain. Such a calming presence to this track. Love it.
Watch the drummer drum this song live. Danny Carey. Trust me... everything ur hearing is the drummer. Hes a mad man.
Tool Army, let’s get it!🤟
Don't feel bad for missing the Tool boat. It happened to an entire generation. Basically, Tool, until they released this most recent album in 2019, didn't have ANY of their music on streaming services. No iTunes. No Spotify. No downloading their songs on digital jukeboxes. If you didn't purchase their CDs, you didn't hear Tool. All of that, coupled with a 13 year hiatus between their last 2 albums, and a lot of young people basically never heard the best band on the planet. Congrats.
Its weird how they can remind you of the past and the future in a couple minutes 🤔
Black Sabbath is one of Maynard’s biggest influences
Tool is really unique, and everything they do is great. If you like the longer songs, there are plenty of them. Like others said, I hope you will watch the drum cam video of this song. Danny Carey is amazing to watch live. He is doing so many things at once, so precisely. It's fantastic. I don't see that anyone has given you the link yet, so here it is: ruclips.net/video/FssULNGSZIA/видео.htmlsi=Auj9Q16jzceIm-NS
Drum cam babay it’s a must
7/8 7/8 5/8 is riff time signature gives the stutter.
LSD and or shrooms....perfect syncopation lol
check out the drum cam! it is a must watch !!!!!!!
Amazing drums wow
What you’re hearing when it kinda sounds off beat is them constantly changing time signatures. And the insutrment you’re hearing in the beginning is their drummer on some sort of tom drum.
3rd eye mind blowing ear candy. Gives you a hard zen vibe, my pre sleep music
Cyber punk but in the jungle lol I like that description
Tool is unmatched
And yes shrooms+tool is a must have experience 😊
The drum cam video would have answered many of your questions

Check out 'rosetta stoned' with lyrics. Its super dope
🤘🏻🌀
Yass! Best to start at track 1 and go full LP to really “get” it. You can still do it for lateralus.
you should watch and react to the live version.. danny cary live drum version!!! please react to it!!
This was realy good ❤
Let the big kids play, it's called Polly rhythm. Kidding
Welcome to the TOOl Rabbit hole... 😀
Get your boy BP on the Tool train, lol. ✌️
It’s mixed time signatures.
The live drum cam version is better you have to check that one out
Carey is definitely a disciple of peart without a doubt if Rush ever gets back together Carey has to be the only choice
The stuff you're talking about in regards to the riff going over the rest of the beat, that's very typical of Tool and especially Danny Carey's drumming, he incorporates a lot of polyrhythms and polymeters so quite often will be drumming in different time signatures to the rest of the instruments.
You can sort of get a better example of it if you watch the official drum cam of this song (Search for - Danny Carey | "Pneuma" by Tool (LIVE IN CONCERT) - it's by Vic Firth). There are points during that song where Danny Carey is playing 4 different time signatures at the same time (each limb on a different time signature). it's why they call him the human octopus, amongst other things.
When Fear Inoculum first came out it took the #1 place away from Taylor Swift shortly after she released her album. Online hilarity between Taylor Swift fans and Tool fans ensued.
I bought a physical unit... took three weeks to get.
Edit: That was a pre-order.
❤😊
This album may be the best album ever to do shrooms to lol
Should have done the Danny Carey drum cam.
Danny Carey is the best drummer alive😊
Pneumo is lung
Tool fans mostly buy the cd. The streamed audio quality is insufficient toget allthe details they put in.
Danny "the GOAT" Carey drum cam please!!!!
Danny cam, Danny cam, Danny cam,,,,, Peace/JT
What is the gist of this song? I can't seem to figure it ouf.😊
We 'Murricans pronounce it New-mah. It's good weed music, IMO.
Watch the drum cam , Danny Carey is mind blowing. I feel that he is the best drummer Intricate and complicated .
Best advice is smoke a joint b4 listening
Polyrhythmik
It’s not syncopation per say, it’s polyrhythms. There’s a difference. Please don’t live comment if you have no idea what you’re talking about 🫤🙄
It is definitely not a 12 string guitar 🙄🤦🏼🙄🤦🏼
In my opinion the drum cam is waaaay better than this version
First rule of Tool, dont talk through the entire song lol. I understand as a "Reaction" you need to talk but stopping a Tool song or talking through it just decreases the overall vibe. To each their own.
Most of TOOL’s music is in odd times, not your basic 1-2-3-4 …
Tool is 1 of 1. There is no real comparison. As far as ability, longevity, following, they are at worst second to metallica.
polyrythm.....
Not hating but bro please just listen with tool, do the resarch after. Take in the music as a whole first. Trust me, you will understand much more just by listening first
Try to just listen to the music and feel it, don't try so hard to really analyze it. It was written and made to feel.
