I don't know why I have been avoiding GlenAllachie since Ralfy chose the 12 year old as his whisky of the year... Maybe it's because I avoid the hype, or is it because I'm not influenced much by what's popular at any given moment? I will probably try other expresions of GlenAllachie in the future, but there's just no rush.

I like Port finished whisky. Unfortunately for you all most are bourbons you will probably never get to see. I do like the Quinta Ruban although I have not purchased a bottle of the 14 year (just have a sample) but the 12 was my baptism into the world of Scotch. Currently waiting to crack into my Tomatin 14 (love the 18) and Tyrconnell Port (if it's half as good as my Madeira bottle then it's a win!).
    Thanks for the review Jason!

Port finished bourbons = Angel's Envy is all that we get in Europe :-(

2:20 I still don't get how come there are RUBY CASKS? I thought if it matured in a casks, we call it Tawny. I am not a port drinker, I only have a tawny every now and again.

These are seasoned casks - I am not sure that the port from these casks were even bottled and sold as port - just like sherry seasoned casks :-(

The only port cask influenced whisky I have tasted so far is Glenmorangie 14 Quinta Ruban. Liked it very much so I bough a second bottle while it was on special sale at ~34-35 euros last December. Got a bottle of Benriach 17 Solstice Edition 2 in tbe stash, still unopened.
I also have Tomatin 14 on my radar. It is available for ~44 euros in Bulgaria.
Skipped both 10 and 11 yo Port Wood finished GlenAllachie releases. I don't mind tasting them, the 11 yo especially, but they seem to be sold out.
Whiskies matured solely in port wood are quite rare. The only one I've seen here is Kilchoman. Quite expensive stuff, but it is long since sold out.
    Cheers!

Glenmorangie 14 Quinta Ruban is widely available and not too expensive - great choice

I guess even Billy Walker can put out a dud every now and then.
There is a Glenallachie 12 Year Old Port Wood Finish (Not Ruby) available here in SoCal, 48% ABV for over $100. I wonder if it's a different bottling than your review whisky?
Hopefully we'll see this Elsburn on our shelves someday.

Jason, very on point review! Here in the States this has been released as a US exclusive. Saw it and bough it without hesitation (maybe a little as it’s $105 here. Did not pick up on the sulfur as much but the thin mouthfeel and lack of Wow factor disappointed me as I love GA! In fairness, it does seem that GA improves as the bottle goes down and this has a bit. What disturbs me is that there is. I mention of natural color and NCF on the label! The box yes. Of the six other GAs I have this is the only one. I hope this is not a “shape of things to come” aka Glendronach 15. Love your reviews as always! Be healthy and safe! Neal

I'm also an American in germany... Stuttgart to be exact. I got into Glenallachie and I have to say its definitely on ny radar from now on. I ordered the Glenallachie 2009 cuvee and the 12 year. I will be collecting and watching all your reviews. Thanks for the info.
