Picked up some bottles here in Denmark for little less than 40 USD. In a supermarket! They had like loads of it..........I posted it on our local whisky geek facebook group. Sold out quickly and made quite a lot of peat loving folks happy.
Anather Port Charlotte! Thank you! What Ardbeg is to you, in terms of fandom, is Bruichladdich with all their ranges to me … So I am more than happy to see you tasting and evaluating their stuff - even more so, since you seem to really like it! :)
Damn. Three years later I found this at my local Total Wine for $144. That’s too big of a number for inflation so something is up. Great it has a high score but I don’t know if it’s worth paying a little over the price that was stated back then.
Fabulous review sir. It's another one of my favourite peated whiskys. If you haven't had it yet seek out the PC 12 Oileanach Furachail. It's another cracking whisky! Cheers!
I just had this last week. I agree that it seemed more fruity, less smokey than the PC 10 heavily peated. I also think this Scottish Barley edition tasted less mature, less refined and a little simpler in the flavor profile. It was selling for the same price as the 10 y.o. which we thoroughly enjoy, but we decided to give it a try. We concluded that it's a nice whisky, but would not buy it again at least when the PC heavily peated 10 y.o. is available. I also probably like the 10 year old over Ardbeg 10 and Laphroaig 10. However, I think I like the Ardbeg 10 over the PC Scottish Barley.
My shop ran out of Scottish and brought in Islay2012. Price jump $64 to $82. 10 year is $70. $82 seems like a lot for a 6 year old. But I hear you saying that the alcohol is well balanced and not noticably youthful. I have no issue adding a splash of a sherried whisky to a dram of a peat monster for a little sweeter complexity but this Scottish peated sounds like a great dram with the sweet notes more apparent than the 10 year old.

Erik truly knows his whiskies. The format of his content is off-the-charts 🍷
Thanks!

Another excellent review, Eric. This sounds delicious and your enthusiasm is fun to watch. I love your notes summary and overall format.
Thank you very much! It means a lot to me!
Good review Eric. I do like the pc Scottish barley. Got a pc 10 still closed in my cellar (was also a good review ).👍
My 2nd Fav Whiskey guy in the world. 1st is Ralfy
WOW! Thanks!
I need a side by side of the islay barley and the scottish barley
I have a bottle of Kilchoman 100% Islay which uses Islay barley. I don't know if I could get my hands on a Bruichladdich Islay barley.
I wonder what the difference would be if it would be more briny or more musty being islay grown

Agreed! I have this one and it is delicious! Is there an online store you prefer when purchasing whisky you can’t find locally?
I often use "Wine Searcher" which is a search engine for wines and whiskies. But I don't use any particular store in an ongoing basis.
Like the intro. Isn’t this specifically Islay Barley, as well as being Scottish? They used to have a Scottish Barley that was peated.
There is a specific variation that uses Islay Barley, and it is labeled as such, different from this Scottish Barley variation.
Tom McCafferty Thanks, misread the label when it flashed by. I love this PC. Glad they are still make this. Prefer it over the Islay Barley PC.
Kilchoman makes a 100% Islay which uses Islay barley and they used to supply Bruichladdich with barley but any longer.
Erik Wait Thanks, Erik, I’ll have to watch for that.
