I really like ichibei. His ability is so unique and fitting for someone as old as him. It’s a fun concept and one of kubo’s best creation. Great analysis btw. Your discussions are always fun to watch and listen to. It’s a great way to reminisce on kubo’s creativity.
It's crazy how ichibei could become a menacing villian so long it serves the interests of retaining the soul society system (e.g. soul king vessel, the corrupt clans) He was willing to turn ichigo to a vessel if ywach didnt become a soul king replacement. Crazy
Dark yes, but not a villain. Ichibe is very loyal to the shinigami, but he wont hesitate to sacrifice them for the good of existence. He's a necessary evil that cant be turn into a common villain cause his logic is beyond that.
@@dinolover I know, but I'm using term villian as one who the protagonist may have to fight/end for a ”good cause”. For example, in OP, people refer to Akainu as a villian but like ichibei, hes doing his job and is just loyal to the existing system.
I mean… it’s never stated that Ichigo would need to be turned into a husk like the former soul king or anything. And since he would’ve been one of like 3 candidates in existence that could hold the fabric of reality together, it’s not a villainous act on Ichibei’s part.
@@sukumuieywang8058 Thats true. We as Bleach fans are obviously also more attached to Ichigo. Haha imagine if Ichibei needed a new soul king candidate and he just used some kid we never heard of lol..no one would think he's evil then..he'd just be a hero for saving all of existence.
Having read a lot Faerie tails and such as a child, the significance of names and “True names” of things always interested me. This character takes that to an extreme in a very fun way, and it was great seeing his power unfold.
If you haven't already you should read Patrick Rothfuss's The Name of the Wind and the follow up A Wise Mans Fear. They literally revolve around the concept of "true name magic"
Kubo outdid himself with this character. His whole control of 'black-ness' is one of the coolest concepts I've ever come across in fiction. And for me personally, Ichibei trumps Yamamoto in terms of power. Ichibei really exists outside of the normal "powerscaling" that people love to obsessively do with these characters. His set of powers is so unique and individual that it doesn't really make sense to compare him to others. In my opinion, aside from the wild cards that are Aizen and end-of-series Ichigo, Ichibei is the 2nd strongest character in the entire series, second only to Yhwach himself.
100% he's above yama. I love yama, but even in the novel he beats/ seals a being who yama or anyone else (during one of the strongest generations of gotei) could not. A immortal hollow that pulled a aizen but actually made it to the top of the soul king palace..... I actually think there's a reasonable chance ichibei could seal aizen, if black took his power even for a short time. he could be sealed, especially if kiskue helped with the sealing..... Aizen would need to out put so much insane transendant reiastu so the ability doesn't effect him for the start. Yet ywach and ikomikidomoe both could not do this, so? and yhwach sounds literally like a soul king remnant if you listen to how he entered the world + he calls soul king ''FATHER''
I think it makes sense that the royal guard could control more abstract powers. The focus being names. The names of zanpakutos or just names in general.
@Michael Phillips this is why I never bought Aizen as "peerless" being of inscrutable power. He openly admitted he'd probably lose to Yama man to man, and that's before including people like Ichibei.
If Aizen created the Soul Key and fought the Zero Division and Ichibei: Ichibei: *splashes Aizen with ink* Aizen: "You think removing my name will strip me of any power, Ichibei?" Ichibei: "Well, maybe not, but I can assign you any name I want with Shirafude Ichimonji!" *writes* Aizen: "How comical. Any petty name you can come up with will fall before the Hogyoku. I'll entertain you, though. What will you call me now? 'Black Ant'? 'Fly'? 'Plankton'?" *Checks name* "Momo Hinamori" Aizen: "Aw fu--" *stabs himself*
When I first saw Ichibe’s power I thought that it was a representation of Tite Kubo or an author in a sense because he knows everything a author would know and can change anything with his brush as he pleases.
Something to note about Ichibei is that his ability is likely by far the strongest in the series except for those of the top three Quincies. It isn't just that he can control anything in-universe that is the color black, it's that he is *literally controlling the actual ink used to draw the characters.* He could just...deform the outlines forming Yamamoto's Bankai and Yamamoto himself into a puddle of ink if he wanted to. He actively puts ink on the actual speech bubble showing Yhwach's sword's name. Ichibei doesn't just have 4th Wall Breaking, he has 4th Wall Bypassing, his ability literally rewrites the actual drawings used to represent his world, said drawings of course being in ours. That is literally a Marvel and DC Comics level ability.
I remember in some of the klub kubo translated q&a, kubo said that when ichigo meet old man zangetsu for the first time why he couldn't here his name (represented in manga as his name being covers by black ink, kinda like writing over the word with a sharpie pen) was because of Ichibei.
@@DamianQualshy Yeah but as it s Yhwach who got covered by ink ink, it should appli to himself as well. Should need more precision cause without over interpreted it looks pretty odd ^^"
Ichibei had the coolest move of all time for me, Futen Daisatsu Ryou and his ink brush zanpakuto was really cool. He looks really menacing when he fights, even though he is fighting on a similar side to the Protagonist. There are some characters in the manga who are truly scary and Ichibei’s ability/power is unique and definitely amongst them. Really creative use of power within even the anime world as a whole. For me, he was the most hype part of the last arc and he lived up to it for sure.
I'd say Oetsu, Senjumaru, and Ichibe lived up to hype Senjumaru destroyed Nainzol, and Oetsu destroyed Yhwach's entire guard. That said Ichibei did completely outshine them all by getting Yhwach to reveal Almighty.
@@sukumuieywang8058 bruh what are u saying. Oetsu literally speed blitzed and bodied the Schutztaffel. Like what else did u need. Ywach had to aushwalen just so they can play on the same field. The power scaling in tybw arc was very scuffed but there is no doubt that without aushwalen ywach prob would have been dropped right then and there but you know, plot armor is thick in those pgs
@@christophernazario2375 He speed blitzed them only to have them immediately resurrected and was then promptly off screened. So he ended up doing fuck all. Proving my point that the only member who did anything impressive was Ichibei. The others were literally fodderized but Ichibei contends with Quincy Jesus and has him on the ropes even.
I think this was the only fight that didn’t turn into “oh yeah? I have an ability that specifically counters your very specific ability” “oh yeah? Well I have the PERFRCT counter to your counter ability even though it’s very specific and I had no idea what it was!” In the whole TYBW series. He was dope as hell but everything else was a real let down
Makes sense that his is name and manipulation based. Given who he is and what he's tasked with and since he's literally Soul Society's history personified, its expected. In a way it also serves as foreshadowing to his manipulations of information postwar that the Spirit King was successfully defended without much trouble and that the war was purely defensive. This sure does not sit well with those who know the truth, Kira and Yoruichi being the most vocal.
One thing you forgot to mention: His power over names are beyond the powers of his zampakuto. I think Ichimonji just takes into account his default power over names to give him a boost in that domain. The fact that you get cursed by saying out loud his name, or that he could take power from Ichigo to revive himself by making Ichigo say his name is proof enough. And the manga made it absolutely clear he's leagues above any shinigami in power, that includes Yama-G, Aizen, the rest of the Zero Squad, the OG Gote 13 and anyone else. Also I think his power is borderline 4th wall breaking, as if he was Kubo's self insert. His power is literally the black ink o the manga pages.
i honestly think there's a debate as to whether Ichibei is really a shinigami as we know them - he seems more like a primordial being who's reshaped his powers to match the way the shinigami use them (or, rather, re-styled them a certain way - probably after meeting oetsu - and then became the template on which the whole shinigami power system was based). As you noted, he seems to have way too many innate abilities that are just a thing with or without ichimonji - the name abilities you mentioned, the fact that his power over darkness just for whatever reason couldn't be used against him (even after being stolen by the quincy king himself), his apparent all-seeing vision (across multiple worlds) that oetsu alludes to in CFYOW, ichimonji retaining hax abilities even before being released etc...
He's not stronger than Aizen. At the end of the day, Ichibei for all his power is merely a shinigami. Aizen is a Transcendent Being, which surpasses anything a shinigami can do, no matter how pwerful they might be.
@@ember-evergarden Huh ? Urahara shat on Aizen, and his zanpakuto has a name, that alone gives Ichibei a greater advantage. And the part of being "transcendent" doesnt mean anything, Ichibei pre-exists all of creation bar the Soul King, he also cant die...
Ichibei had a really op zanpakto , and I got a good feeling in my stomach when ywach was able to over power him , that was the warning that kubo made ichibei way to broken to the point where his defeat would be a typical shounen defeat and not a deus ex machina, honestly ichibei vs ywaxh was cool aesthetic wise , but it also felt like a fight that was made by writers in a roo who just make up well though power and abilities.
Ichibei's powers are kind of broken but it's absolutely something one would expect from 0th Division's commander. As for the the resurrection dilemma. I think that if he would write "alive" or a corpse, it would turn into zombie-like creature. I mean Juha Bach also didn't become an ant, he just gained its properties. So the corpse wouldn't turn into living person but it would probably be something zombie-like.
I have always liked magic & related power that revolves around names--that having names, knowing names and giving names provides power in some form or other. The thing that struck me most about watching this video isn't just Ichibei and his power, but MrTommo initially pointing out that names are important in the Bleach universe and have been from the beginning; despite the number of times I've read the manga and watched the anime entirely, the true significance of names, or how they were demonstrated as significant from the beginning, eluded me until this moment. Yet another of Kubo's brilliant early work shows yet again, foreshadowing the appearance and significance of Ichibei quite early on. 'Calling Your Attacks' is a common trope in shonen manga and anime, probably started in manga because it helps narration in the limited still-image format of manga and continues in anime to remain faithful to the source, and to give the voice actors memorable things to say to help hype up their characters. In Bleach, however, calling the attacks ties into the intrinsic power of names, making it narratively important. When facing Byakuya for the final time, Ichigo reveals that he learned the name of his weapon's ultimate attack from Zangetsu himself, and that the power of the attack is greatly increased by knowing the name--and, we can infer, based on what we have learned about properly using the name of one's zanpaku-to to invoke its power, that using the name of an attack is also important to maintain that power. It is also interesting to note that even though skilled kido practitioners can skip the incantation of spells to speed up their use, they almost always still use the name of the spell as they cast it (certain stealth-based bakudo seem to be the only exceptions, which makes sense under the circumstances).
I wonder how much of history was affected by his power? By him altering the names of people, places, concepts, &/or objects? Not just the shaping of the three worlds from chaos, but anything that happened after that would have a major impact on the status quo...
I mean he changed the name of one of the strongest Hollows ever into Ikomikidomoe. Imagine if it had its true name active, how more devastating it would be
I feel like Ichibei could add parts to names using his Bankai. Like maybe he could make "Yhwach, Quincy King, Son of Soul King" be "Yhwach, Weak Quincy King, Foolish Son of Soul King".
Thank u for devoting your life to this franchise it makes me so happy never quit you'll reach 1 million subs some day im expecting a 10/10 video as always
If you think about it, Shirafude Ichimonji makes a LOT of sense: His shikai removes names, sure, OP. For example - lets say he splashes ink on..... Nozarashi, why not. It loses its name, but - as we seen numerous times in many battles - even without name it's still a powerful tool AND meets basic definition of the sword - sharp, sturdy, etc. So it renders the blade to sorta Asauchi state. But with Shirafude Ichimonji it can be renamed to "Wooden branch" - and snapped in two right away. That's why i think those powers complete each other.
I remember reading these chapters(606 and so on if i'm not wrong) and the Monks face truly gave me the chills in some pages Also, i believe that Ichibei power is truly about changing the "essence" of everything and everyone Truly something that can be considered overpower or broken until you consider its position and its main weakness imao, being its overconfidence and bravado on its fight against the King of the Quincy's i would say its power are limited to what the Name of things mean and not what physical manifestation they obtain, but thats probably over the top already
When we used to think Genryusai was the beast shinigami when he just a kid in front of Ichibei!…. Kubo is one hell of a writer, so much details in literally everything aspect of the story, black ink literally destroys the name and white ink gives literally a new name
Hi Tommo. Nice video. Regarding the zero division. I have been having this idea for a while about how they represent japanese traditional knowledge or traditional ways. The doctor, the cooker, the tailor, the blacksmith and the writter (which is a job or a form of art in Japan) There is this secondary theme in Bleach about traditions and changing them in which ichigo and Yamamoto play a big part, but I think the 0 Division is part of this theme too )how they give tools to Ichigo and the rest). I have not seem a lot about this, could be a good topic to discuss.
I always thought that Ichibei was sort of an in story stand in for Kubo himself. The one who knows and names everything can erase or rewrite everything as well. The one who was there when the original chaotic world was split apart into the world of living, soul society and Hueco Mundo. It's so poetic that I think Ichibei's character is Kubo's greatest creation for the nuance and duality it represents. Not many characters in Shounen manage to do that.
imagine aizen when he finally made the ouken and goes to soul king's palace only to be ripped off of his shinigami powers, ichibei will cover kyoka suigetsu shikai into "nothing" and lost its power forever, one of a few shinigami who's not afraid of aizen's ability. yhwach is another story, he's soul king's son, and only with his ability of auswahlen (with a lot of pure quincies with strong volstandig) and 1000 years of planning, he's able to "defeat" hyosube ichibei, speaks a lot for an ancient being chosen by soul king himself
I said this before and will again. THANK YOU for finally using the English version of the manga. Makes these videos so much more intriguing for us English readers
The sad thing is that people often forget just how strong Ichibe is because of the zero division's apparently lackluster impact on the story. In a world that is defined by the importance of names, what else can you call the giver of all names if not a god? Ichibe is right up there with Yhwach and Aizen in terms of power over the Bleach world
I think Yhwach proved he was a tier or 2 above in their fight. Yhwach kinda just flexed and it was over. Aizen fought an even more powerful Yhwach (Soul King absorption) and successfully altered the perception of each of the nearly infinite timelines Yhwach can see and alter with his Allmighty.
@@Dobbyisfr33 I mean ywach had almighty and aizen had hogyoku so in reality ichibei has no equal. Ywach had enough going on with all the shrift manipulation and aushwalen. Pre hogyoku aizen wouldn't even scratch ichibei. There is no contest here.
You could say that while Yhwach and Aizen have reached a status of near/godhood, Ichibei only possesses power that’s godlike, the problem is while his abilities are definitely something out of this world Ichibei himself is still just a shinigami.
Not by a long shot. He’s the most overhyped character in Bleach, and people forget that his modus operandi is basically to weaken others, so he has a chance at beating them.
There's also his use of writing kanji to do things like shield or conceal things, so he definitely has more aspects of his "Naming" ability that can be used. As for the limitations of it..i look at him in a simular light to Gremmy where it mostly relies on how he uses it than there being a hard limit for the ability itself.
I believe that Ichibe's Bankai's power of controlling all the black in the world was a reference to him literally being able to control the ink of the Manga Pages, which explains why Fuuten Taisatsuryo taking away all of the black of a character completely erases them.
Ichibei vs Yhwach remind me of when Ozymandias try to kill Dr.Manhattan by dissemble him. Dr.manhattan first feat of power was assemble himself back with his will and Yhwach similarly giving himself power when he has none was the first trick that he learn.
What's interesting is this is a very Japanese zanpakto, because due to the way it works it's fundamentally different in Japanese than it is in English. As you, Mr.Tommo, probably know but other may not, Japanese words are actually made up of different characters that can have different meanings. But these different characters can come together to form a new word that has a separate meaning from it's parts. A good example is nanami kento from jujutsu kaisen. The name nanami can actually be made up of several different characters, and can mean seven seas, seven three, seven fruit, or seven beauty. His name kento is more common, meaning happy, cute for depression, smart person (all of which play into his character and arc I believe) BUT kento is actually made from the kanji for build/to build/building and man. Something that again directly reflects both his physique and his prior job. Sorry for the tangent, I just wanted to give an example for how complex names in language build on characters instead of letters can actually be. It's because each character doesn't just represent a sound, but it in and of itself is an idea. An idea that can be changed by adding or subtracting, and even singular characters can have others melded into them to make new meanings. Or taken away.
A good Bleach example of this would be Unohana's shikai and bankai that both have the name of Minazuki but the shikai means Flesh-Drops' Gorge while the bankai means All Things' End.
Ichibei is just like Unohana, hiding his true self until combat although his crimes are arguably worse than hers after reading CFYOW,, that being said he is still easily the third strongest combatant in bleach.
I know I'm probably in the minority here, but I'm of the opinion that Ichibei slaps pretty much anyone in Bleach other than Yhwach (yes, including Aizen). The whole fight b/w him and Yhwach is almost like two little kids having an imaginary fight, with each one pulling out a crazier power. "I renamed you so your power is split in half". "Yeah, well, I'm a king so I can steal your power and make it my own." "Nuh-uh! I command all things colored black. In fact, now I renamed you so you're as strong as an ant." If it weren't for how broken Yhwach's reawakened power is (which Kubo sort of wrote himself into a corner with and needed a very specific Macguffin just to counter) Ichibei would have beaten Yhwach, who is an absolute monster even before his full power reawakened and he absorbed the Soul King. Seriously, I don't think people remember just how broken Yhwach was even at the point of his fight with Ichibei.
I would think his bankai doesn't rely solely on his shikai, but is enhanced by it. Japan is very big on the concept of names being made of parts. Shinigami, characters for death and God becoming God of Death. Ichigo 1 and 5 or 15 when we meet him at 15. Many anime have the whole "and here's how my name is made" moment. He could likely add to any name with his bankai at any time. But it is a lot harder to change a name in an advantageous way in the middle of a battle than to just start from nothing. It also fits the power path well. His sealed state can cut a name in half, his skikai can erase it, the bankai adds to it, and when you use both bankai and shikai together you have absolute control. Since it's supposed to be the big blowout fight though, he'd have no reason to use the adding alone part, it's better to go for the full combo so to speak.
I must say that this one of the high points for the final arc . It still sucks that the others got the shaft but Ichibe is such an awesome character and a total badass
I think that ichibei and indeed all zero division zanpakuto are not necessarily designed for battle. Ichibei said he was the one who named everything and I think ichinonji is the tool he used to do so. Like you said, he could make anything into anything with the two step process of ichimonji’s shikai then bankai.
I like ichibei he is all powerfull and was a good asset to the arc along the rest of zero squad but people give them a hard time because they didnt understood the fight
I really love seeing the contrast of the modern Zanpakuto to the old, original ones. From the difference between Bankai and Shinuchi, to the differences in power. It seems modern zanpakuto are more focused in there powers with specific abilities based off specific triggers. When we get into the older ones they become much more conceptual, like Ichimonji and says fungi, seeming to be based on the co cent of Darkness, and the concept of “sharp”.
Ichibei is truly a monster I don't even think the old man could stand up to him I mean literally he would just take his Bankai away from him and extinguish all his flames.
Let's just say sneaking up on them is just off the table, you can't just show up to the royal palace and then expect none of these 5 captains to not detect you. It's just them anything els will immediately be picked upon.
I'm pretty sure cfyow said that Ichibei is so old that he predates the Bleach Universes themselves and existed alongside the birth of the Soul King back when everything was a void of chaos and destruction. This would make him the only primordial being in Bleach apart from the soul king.
I wonder if this would be possible? Step 1- Sling ink on all Shinigami Step 2- Activate Bankai Step 3 - Rewrite all Shinigami names to Vasto Lorde or Shinigami Captain All Shinigami are now as strong or stronger than a captain. Not only do I wonder if that would work but if it did; would it cause some imbalance in the spiritual worlds that would destroy or damage all of them?
It's worth mentioning, the use of Ink as a power in a written/drawn medium can, and probably does in this case, have additional meta reasons for its implicit power. After all, everything we see in the manga is made of ink. I also wonder if he could use his bankai to instead add to a name, perhaps not able to overwrite a name without the black erasure, but still able to alter things with the white ink.
Could you do a video on the concept of a “mastered bankai” because in the TYBW there was a few captains that have different parts or phases to their bankai (Ex: Yamamoto, shunsui, buyakuya, Rose) it seems like a mastered bankai could be probably have something to with having phases to the ability.
itimonji means "Straight line" and you can think of it like striking text. We do it in English too. Shinuti is "True self", rather than "bankai" which is "final release"
Haiz soul society just gets darker and darker... nobles dominates seireitei shinigami and rukongai shitting on everyone ALONG WITH CENTRAL 46. And now we know ICHIBEI allow them to do it, in other words, SQUAD ZERO allow Soul Society to drown in hubris stagnancy and suffering. Ichibei was directly involved with Soul King Mutilation how can he even have the audacity to worship Soul King when he allow nobles to make people worship the half-corpse soul king and call IT the "ruler" of Soul Society(like an eternal mockery adding salt to the wound- u worship the man you enslaved for eternity). No wonder Aizen betrayed them. Imagine Aizen used to want to join the Shinigami when he was a child(it was implied he was ridiculously strong even as a child thus he may have wanted to join shinigami in childhood to look for a potential rival/friend) then he's slapped in the face with the hubris, corruption, stagnancy. It must have been outrageous, shocking and terrifying at the same time(because he realized he would make enemies with the entire world if it leaks out-in novel CFYOW he told Hisagi: "you canNOT defeat a powerful foe with mere sentiments"- foe here is likely soul society itself: nobles, Gotei, Squad 0 that's why he had to be sneaky a bit despite being overwhelmingly powerful). And remember, in Urahara flashback, the Central 46 distrust the Gotei so much that they don't even allow ANY of them to retire unless they are nobles(the weasel nest they called it or something- they gather all ex-shinigami and lock them up for life wtf). So yeah, pretty shitty society the Soul Society.
tbh when it came to Squad Zero i wasn't rlly dissapointed, maybe it was cause I recently got into bleach and I binged the manga pretty fast so I didn't have the same expectations as fans did who waited gor months or years for them to appear
This is an odd thing to say, but I love how you say ‘thousand year blood war arc.’ I don’t know if it’s the way you say it, the accent or something else but every time you say it I just get a good feeling.
Ichibei's bankai is probably the most BS power in the series. I can only imagine how awkward it will be in the future with 100 nights just missing, though. Ichibei might have screwed the world with that.
Oh he did. He literally said he stole 100 nights which means it'll be daylight in SS for almost 4 months. I would imagine though that they know this is coming cause im sure Ichibe told them after the war
@@dinolover Nope. He stole 100 nights from 100 years in the future, so the easier outcome is that there will be one nightless day a year for the next hundred years.
*breathes in* *seagull meme* HYPEEEEEEEE Dude you should totally do a collab with DBZIMRAN. He's a fellow BleachTuber that really knows his stuff like you do. Also have you considered collabs with Tekking, KingofLightning and the Masked Man etc
An idea for a future video would be Ichibe's ability to summon giant hands and feet to literally stomp or slap around his enemies. Is that kido, or something else? Perhaps some kind of inate power that he got from the primordial universe?
Shirafude Ichimonji forges a new name. If something already has a name, by the contrast between Ichimonji and Shirafude Ichimonji, I doubt the second would replace or erase something's already existing name... But it could probably add an extra name. Like granting a title, it's possible Shirafude Ichimonji could say spray something and give them another name abd more power without erasing their original name with black.

If Aizen created the Soul Key and fought the Zero Division and Ichibei:
Ichibei: *splashes Aizen with ink*
Aizen: "You think removing my name will strip me of any power, Ichibei?"
Ichibei: "Well, maybe not, but I can assign you any name I want with Shirafude Ichimonji!" *writes*
Aizen: "How comical. Any petty name you can come up with will fall before the Hogyoku. I'll entertain you, though. What will you call me now? 'Black Ant'? 'Fly'? 'Plankton'?"
*Checks name*
"Momo Hinamori"
Aizen: "Aw fu--" *stabs himself*
The way Ichibe looks during his fight with Yhwach was so goddamn badass and terrifying at the same time
When I first saw Ichibe’s power I thought that it was a representation of Tite Kubo or an author in a sense because he knows everything a author would know and can change anything with his brush as he pleases.
Plus ink.
@@MaxIronsThird screentone
Interesting. I like it
Something to note about Ichibei is that his ability is likely by far the strongest in the series except for those of the top three Quincies.
Fax on those hax B
I remember in some of the klub kubo translated q&a, kubo said that when ichigo meet old man zangetsu for the first time why he couldn't here his name (represented in manga as his name being covers by black ink, kinda like writing over the word with a sharpie pen) was because of Ichibei.
Lmao fr... His power breaks the 4th wall
But people around can still say his name (Yamamoto said ywach, and i guess other people around as well throug the last arc...)
@@dix-neufcmsifredi2706 Yeah but that was Yhwach himself, not Yhwach's powers in Ichigo. Powers which were later named "Old Man Zangetsu"

This fight animated will be insane, although that goes for a lot of the fights during the TYBW
I'd say Oetsu, Senjumaru, and Ichibe lived up to hype Senjumaru destroyed Nainzol, and Oetsu destroyed Yhwach's entire guard. That said Ichibei did completely outshine them all by getting Yhwach to reveal Almighty.
Nah Ichibei was the only one to live up to the hype. All the others got off screened and were presumably dominated.
Oetsu forcing Yhwach to sac the rest of the Quincy to power up his guard is no mean feat. He at least did something.
i wish Senjumaru showed more
@@sukumuieywang8058 bruh what are u saying. Oetsu literally speed blitzed and bodied the Schutztaffel. Like what else did u need. Ywach had to aushwalen just so they can play on the same field. @@christophernazario2375 He speed blitzed them only to have them immediately resurrected and was then promptly off screened. So he ended up doing fuck all. I hope the zero division gets fleshed out more in the anime 🔥🔥🔥
I think this was the only fight that didn’t turn into “oh yeah? I have an ability that specifically counters your very specific ability” “oh yeah? Well I have the PERFRCT counter to your counter ability even though it’s very specific and I had no idea what it was!” In the whole TYBW series. He was dope as hell but everything else was a real let down
Ichibei and his bankai is like a homage to the power of the mangaka.
He also stopped Ichigo from knowing the true name of his zanpakuto
i honestly think there's a debate as to whether Ichibei is really a shinigami as we know them - he seems more like a primordial being who's reshaped his powers to match the way the shinigami use them (or, rather, re-styled them a certain way - probably after meeting oetsu - and then became the template on which the whole shinigami power system was based).
@@udiin6518
He is really the barragan of the shinigami

Different from anyone in his "specie"
He's not stronger than Aizen. At the end of the day, Ichibei for all his power is merely a shinigami. Aizen is a Transcendent Being, which surpasses anything a shinigami can do, no matter how pwerful they might be.
@@ember-evergarden Huh ? Urahara shat on Aizen, and his zanpakuto has a name, that alone gives Ichibei a greater advantage. And the part of being "transcendent" doesnt mean anything, Ichibei pre-exists all of creation bar the Soul King, he also cant die...
I hope when Ichibei vs. Yhwach gets animated, they keep it black and white. It looked gorgeous in the manga.
I think this is the first time on RUclips I felt like actually complementing a thumbnail... This looks AMAZING!
Ichibei was a cool call back to that old rule of thumb from the beginning of the series "Names have power"
I'm so damn glad kubo gave him such a unique and Terrifying bankai!
Ichibei is Kubo. Sits above it all. Power of black, named everything and he can change anything in the manga as he sees fit.
Gonna reread the thousand blood war with my cousin. Glad to know tommo providing me with a study guide
Thank u for devoting your life to this franchise

If you think about it, Shirafude Ichimonji makes a LOT of sense:
His shikai removes names, sure, OP.
I remember reading these chapters(606 and so on if i'm not wrong) and the Monks face truly gave me the chills in some pages
Also, i believe that Ichibei power is truly about changing the "essence" of everything and everyone
Truly something that can be considered overpower or broken until you consider its position and its main weakness imao, being its overconfidence and bravado on its fight against the King of the Quincy's
i would say its power are limited to what the Name of things mean and not what physical manifestation they obtain, but thats probably over the top already
I loved all of the zero division. Personally I’d have liked to have seen more of them.
imagine aizen when he finally made the ouken and goes to soul king's palace only to be ripped off of his shinigami powers, ichibei will cover kyoka suigetsu shikai into "nothing" and lost its power forever, one of a few shinigami who's not afraid of aizen's ability.
yhwach is another story, he's soul king's son, and only with his ability of auswahlen (with a lot of pure quincies with strong volstandig) and 1000 years of planning, he's able to "defeat" hyosube ichibei, speaks a lot for an ancient being chosen by soul king himself
you should definitely take a retrospective look at the zero division fight after knowing how strong their opponents end up being.
Been waiting for soo long for this
He probably could heal people with that power. He brought himself back to life with it
I said this before and will again. THANK YOU for finally using the English version of the manga. Makes these videos so much more intriguing for us English readers
I don’t give a damn what anyone says this guy has the best content when it comes to bleach.
Man I miss the manga so much and you video series keeps it alive for me. Thanks a ton, mate.
@@ReturnoftheLightning this comment is hilarious!
I loved ichibei, his character design, abilities and the way his demeanor changes when he's hostile is just bad ass.
I really like the design of his zanpaktou.
Is weird how no one mentioned this Thumbnail, is really fantastic and great
Ichibei the gnome.
This man should be more op at night than in the day
What's interesting is this is a very Japanese zanpakto, because due to the way it works it's fundamentally different in Japanese than it is in English.
@@shadenox8164 thank you!! I completely forgot about his bankai.

In fact, now I renamed you so you're as strong as an ant."
If it weren't for how broken Yhwach's reawakened power is (which Kubo sort of wrote himself into a corner with and needed a very specific Macguffin just to counter) Ichibei would have beaten Yhwach, who is an absolute monster even before his full power reawakened and he absorbed the Soul King. Seriously, I don't think people remember just how broken Yhwach was even at the point of his fight with Ichibei.
Yhwach: “Yeah cool but I have cheat codes.”
Anyone find it funny that Juha's physical sword came up twice and both times we didn't get its name lol.
I love his powers and how... He protrays the MAD MONK as well Tito. Kubo did a hell of a job on making the 0 Company wild and yet so powerful.
Can't wait until the anime shows his fight.
I don't know why, but this thumbnail is dope! Thank you for another great video!
I think it makes sense its power is so abstract and seemingly simplistic, because it was forged in primeval times.
I dunno why, but that thumbnail looked AMAZING.
I like ichibei he is all powerfull and was a good asset to the arc along the rest of zero squad but people give them a hard time because they didnt understood the fight
yea, these kinds of things are better understood through the anime
This fight is the reason i read the manga. Saw a thumbnail of ichibei dying and was like well… thanks 😂
I wonder if Ichibei can give out names of the zanpakutos. Like, he can name a rock "Senbonzakura" and thar rock just becomes another Senbonzakura.
"the kids call it bankai now" bro is basically calling yamamoto a kid and tbf everyone in the gotei 13 are children compared to him
I'm pretty sure cfyow said that Ichibei is so old that he predates the Bleach Universes themselves and existed alongside the birth of the Soul King back when everything was a void of chaos and destruction. This would make him the only primordial being in Bleach apart from the soul king.
Mr Tommo uploads? i click , its simple .
I wonder if this would be possible?
Step 1- Sling ink on all Shinigami
Step 2- Activate Bankai
Step 3 - Rewrite all Shinigami names to Vasto Lorde or Shinigami Captain
All Shinigami are now as strong or stronger than a captain.
Ichibe the father of banki given his title makes sense to his abilities in creating names as he has created every banki name.
