I feel Yumichika Shikai is underrated af. He only used it twice and handedly won those fight. Being able to literally siphon anyone’s reiatsu and have it for yourself which he heals and replenishes himself with; seems so op to me
His shikai is kind of a one trick pony though. It feels like the equivalent to a chokehold. Devastatingly effective once you set it up, but you have to grab the opponent first, and what if they have a way to cut their way out of it? Actually come to think of it, I don't think either of Yumichika's opponents were currently using blades at the time he was siphoning them.
His spiritual pressure is far too low against anyone higher than him for it to take effect. It also requires a significant set-up play, which is another huge drawback. Yumichika also doesn’t get along with his Zanpakuto, so that puts a hinder on what kinds of abilities they could learn together.
@@wolfgod6443 u said a blade. If he could cut it, he would have done so. I feel like the durability of the vibes are based on rieatsu. Someone with low or relative rieatsu as him will find it difficult to cut ruri'iro kujaku's vines
Gin’s Shinso becomes an awful lot scarier when you remember an often overlooked (and possibly ignored by Kubo) piece of zanpakuto lore. A shinigami who has attained Bankai doesn’t need to call their shikai to release it. So at any point when you’re fighting Gin, as long as there is a straight line between you and him, you are most likely in range of Shinso stabbing you
Though, Shinso may be decently fast, but not always fast enough to be decisive against high level opponents, as we see Hitsugaya dodge a surprise point-blank attack in the Soul Society arc. But...that could apply to many techniques and abilities
@@rossadams1897 gin didn’t want to kill him trust me and toshiro was preparing for gin for years as he never ever trusted him , toshiro studied gin’s zanpaktou that’s why gin was surprised when gin was actually giving him a run for his money
I just noticed with Nozarashi the release word is "Drink" (obviously implying drink blood). Uohana's bankai was all about blood, so whether intentional or not it seems like a nod to Uohana's sacrifice in Zenpachi attaining his power. Nozorashi and Zenpachi pretty much drank from the blood of Uohana's sacrifice so they could attain their new power
@@vincentsanabria drink your fill is an old saying. it could also be like blood drunk, drunk on battle or something. though i don't doubt at all that its a nod to unohana like pink said.
I can't even imagine the amount of training of how some soul reapers have to put in to make their shikai as strong as bankai's. Actually Byakuya's current shikai is probably best example of how one needs to achieve that sort of level of power.
Indeed. And it becomes tragic when such training is made instantly redundant by an enemy that wipes them out in one strike either due to stronger power or using different unorthodox tactics that they're not used to.
Two People we saw having This level are Also Genryusai and Kyoraku, not to mention Aizen Who is obviusly on This level. All of them are absolute monsters that can kill armys just with their shikai and a lot of characters even with Bankai are not even close to their power level.
Urahara's Shikai was always the one I would want if I had my own shikai. Something as strong as your imagination can come up with always sounds like the most versatile and fun to use.
I honestly think benehime’s shikai ability is to reconstruct his reiatsu to create energy attacks or a more defensive means like his blood shield while his bankai reconstructs physical matter that already exists. I personally think this makes the most sense considering we don’t really see benehime very often. Hopefully we can see more of Urahara’s shikai and bankai in the anime.
After seeing the Bankai and giving thought to it, I also got to that conclusion. The Shikai ability is to reconstruct Urahara's Reiatsu into different forms: A shield, "bullets", an exploding net, energy cut, and the Bankai just makes it stronger by letting Urahara reconstruct phisycal stuff instead of only his Reiatsu
This video made me realize that kisuke and aizen has basically exact opposites of the same kind of shikai. Kisukes can create basically anything while aizens can make it seem like anything can happen. Aka one can do anything and one can make you think anything can happen. Kind of funny that the two smartest people have incredibly similar weapons thematically and yet use their powers so different.
The most terrifying thing about Aizen is that a lot of people think an opponent who never saw the release would stand a chance to avoid its power being careful to the moment Aizen release his shikai to not look at it. The problem is that Kyoka Suigetsu shape is the same to its sealed form and that since he has a bankai he doesn't need to call his sword name nor use the command to release his shikai, so basically you should never look at Kyoka Suigetsu for the entire fight because Aizen can release it whenever he wants and you can't tell when he does.
But DOES he have a Bankai though? He used his illusions to trick the Gotei into thinking he had a Water Zanpakuto. We've never heard a hint that he even has a real Bankai. It's natural to assume somebody as strong as him must have one, but Kenpachi proves that's not always the case seeing as he was stronger than Unohana before he even awakened Shikai. Whether or not Aizen has Bankai is totally up in the air, and he could very easily simply not have one. He could have just never seen a use to train for it, since he was already so overwhelmingly strong plus his Shikai is busted af. Or he does have one and never uses it because the ability is deemed worse, perhaps. But we don't know, so anything that can be said is conjecture. Anyway, point is, you can't use the argument of "and that since he has a bankai he doesn't need to call his sword name nor use the command to release his shikai" is just as much conjecture. Perhaps I am wrong, I don't remember everything after all, but I think every time he's used his Shikai he's said the release command. So there isn't even evidence of him not saying the release to imply he must have Bankai. Please correct me if I'm wrong about that.
@@jaykay6222 kubo himself explained and also it was mentioned in a novel that Aizen bankai can be used only against the ones who have already seen his shikai.
@@Kal911 Alright, fair enough, I haven't read any of the novels yet. That does beg the question tho. Why didn't he use it on Ywach at the end, since he had been caught in KS? What does Aizen's Bankai do, or is that part not stated?
@@jaykay6222 nobody knows yet what it does, anyway it’s possible he didn’t use it because he was caught and absorbed by Yhwach before he could make it. Maybe in Hell saga we will see it, who knows.
Izuru's Wabisuke is so scary to me. It's bad at a distance, so forget about the Quincy or Yama who could burn him before Izuru got anywhere close. But, against an opponent of his own level it just feels like inevitable. The target will slow down and eventually fall to the ground waiting to be executed
Indeed, It's the philosophy behind it. His cold dead eyed expression didn't help. How ironic then that the next enemy did not even give him the chance both discussing his views and using his ability, leaving him essentially a zombie after simply blitzing him. Wonder if being put near death himself shook his views or reinforced them?
i guess anyone of his level yeah, since hes so weak. But someone captain level who can lift things 200x their own body weight with ease? yeah nah Kira aint cutting them that much.
Remember when Wabisuke was trapped under its own power in Reggai Arc? Stuck underneath something heavy that it keeps continuously scraping & because it was an enhanced 10x Version it was quickly doomed. How fast does Wabisuke double the weight? 8 cuts is x256, that reggai was dealing with x100,000,000 by that point & the weight just keeps increasing.
I love the fact that Aizen's Zanpakutou rules the first five senses while Shinji's Sakanade seems to control the next five senses ^^ Awesome worldbuilding.
@walidtaguemount6179 first of all, scientists aren't even sure what count as "senses" but the ones they are sure of is a sense of time,Vestibular ie balance, proprioception (you feel your limb positions even if you don't see them), internal organs and a sense of pain (there can be sorts of pain that aren't related to feeling). Also some scientists count a sense of heat/cold as separate from skin feeling since you can feel heat where no skin is found (most likely in the throat)
That's not it. Azien can control the 5 basic senses, the senses Shinji's shikai can control & wateva other senses there are. This is proven by Azien controlling Yw, don't know how to spell his name, the quincy leader perception of time
@@flareinc7413 Sounds like you require a reminder for what a sense is. "a faculty by which the body perceives an EXTERNAL stimulus; one of the faculties of sight, smell, hearing, taste, and touch." For time there is no stimulus at all, but rather brain just rationalizing what is happening around us to makes it make sense. Pain is completely internal although it is often indirectly caused external stimulus. Syringe piercing the skin doesn't cause the pain, but your body reacting to that damage causes you to feel pain. Merely meant to be a warning system to let you know that your body is getting damaged, do something about it. To give you another example to make it easier to understand, a bomber flying towards a city doesn't cause sirens to go off. It is defenders that chose to react to that plane that way.
I never quite thought of it but great point about the scientist/engineer Urahara having both a Shikai and Bankai that allow him to create tools to fit his needs.
One I don't feel gets enough credit is Kensei's Tachikaze. Air manipulation is incredibly powerful, especially with it's unnamed Wind Blades ability. But, it's Explosion power is also terrifying. If you get hit with the knife, you just... explode. Whatever it hits is just scattered across the surrounding area. And he can fire that as a projectile too, which blew off Hichigo's arm when he wasn't trying to actually kill Hichigo. Tachikaze is insane.
Not sure how much the poison aspect from his bankai is included in the shikai. If none, aside from it turning into a powder when elongating, then I would put it in the same boat as other tricky melee shikai weapons similar to Renji, Ikkaku, and Lisa and Hiyori
@@saundersjordan21 In short it's a scuffed projectile attack, because it's not a true ranged attack. It doesn't make this hands move any faster, so as long as you assume you have to hold your weapon in blocking stance when it's pointing towards you, you're all good. Get to melee range and that ability is completely useless.
@@joshuadrinkwater4391 How about you go back and watch how it originally happened? He requires a proper stance to use it. Even when completely off guard Ichigo managed to block it. It doesn't even extend unreasonably fast anyway.

Ichimonji is such a great Shikai. Very creative, wonderful imagery and with a power that is extremely fitting for the man who stands at the top of the Soul Reaper hierarchy. Aizen's Shikai is really cool and worthy of being as Iconic as it is, but it does have more obvious weaknesses that you just think don't about since Aizen is so good at using it. I really like Wabisuke though, it is such a simple but effective power and it fits Kira exceptionally well.
Just a quibble, for me Urahara's Bankai is about "sewing" . Urahara can change things by sewing them as if sewing cloth. Benehime's Shikai creates red threads made of spirit energy. Urahara uses these red threads to create various effects: ultra thin threads can cut through things; threads tied together , with some kido, create an explosive net. At Shikai, Benehime can only work with the threads, knotting them together. At Bankai, Benehime uses the threads to interact with everything, repairing wounded body parts or blinded eyes. I think many of Urahara's creations were made off-screen using his Bankai. Benehime seems to have many abilities but it's actually Urahara's creativity that makes her versatile.
It would've been cool if we saw Wabisuke being used on an ally's weapon or tool in order to strenthen their effect. Imagine a shikai like Omaeda's but with twice the force or something.
Arguably the strongest ability full stop besides all mighty, heck it beats all mighty so who knows. He could trap Gerald making him fight an invisible enemy forever, and could make lille kill himself with his own attacks. It’s up there with V the visionary
Everyone absolutely love the bankai releases but yeah the shikai are also wonderful to look at. It’s definitely one of my favorite aspects of Bleach and Kubo did an amazing job making the blade suit their owners
Isane: “My sword grows two extra blades.” Omeada: “Mine’s a wrecking ball.” Kenpachi: “Very impressive, kids. Now, which one can slice a moon in half?”
I personally would consider the Horn of Salvation and Ichigo's ability to use Cero and Gran Rey Cero as part of Zangetsu's abilities, since Zangetsu is a hollow. Or at least half of Zangetsu is.
I don't think that's necessarily the case. I believe those Shikai are just undeveloped. The zanpakuto changes with the user. For instance, Shuhei becomes essentially immortal with his Shikai in the novels, whereas in the manga, it's only a scythe. Even Shinji and Byakuya were able to develop new abilities for his Shikai. So, while yes, the power difference is there, I'm sure a shinigami can aspire to more through training and meditation and through simply living their lives as they grow into different people. But what do you think? Personally, it would be pretty cool to see Isane develop her abilities later on, for instance.
@@MichaelisBLee Shuhei’s Bankai is what makes him and his enemy immortal, not his shikai. But yeah, I’d love to see some of the lieutenants develop their abilities further. Isane in particular could be interesting to watch. Her zanpakuto is apparently an ice-type if we go by the name(Itegumo means Frozen Cloud), but we have no idea if it currently does anything other than sprout two extra blades.
@@CaptainKotetsu You're thinking of that ball of chain that wraps around his and his opponent's neck, right? Yes, that's his Bankai. It pools their spiritual energy together to heal both, while depleting their pooled spiritual energy to heal them until both collapse and die or until Hisagi deactivates it. But his Shikai grants him regeneration. When his head or arm or anything else is severed from him, chains will sprout from his body to link the severed piece back together. And yes, I'd love to see everyone's Shikai abilities developed further too. In particular, I would want melee Shikai to become more versatile. So, Renji, Iba and Isane are the two characters that come to mind. Isane's Itegumo could be ice related, but unlike Hitsugaya and Rukia, has more focus on evasion and blizzards. Perhaps she could become an ice phantom, intangible to physical attacks, so she's able to heal comrades without fear of danger. Or perhaps, she can generate blizzards to act as diversions as slips inside to assassinate the targets inside - essentially, staying out of direct or confrontational combat and staying focused on guerilla style tactics.
@@CaptainKotetsu i think the difference between his bankai and shikai is just that it also uses the reitsu of the enemy but makes them also immortal. While the shikai makes just him immortal but just uses his reitsu so it becomes useless when he runs out ( he dosnt have a lot in compare to captains)
@@MichaelisBLee Your idea of Isane’s shikai turning her into an intangible ghost that heals people is really cool tbh, and very in character for her. The only caveat would be the inability to deal damage to enemies while in that form.
Not going to lie, before you started talking about the results of your list I wanted every result to be Aizen-- using his shikai to manipulate every result to be him. How meta.
I think you did a good job at the difficult task of choosing the strongest shikai. I personally might consider putting Shinso in the honorable mentions and maybe remove Sode no Shirayuki, but I still understand and agree with your choices.
lately i’ve been finding myself watching so much of your vids . at this point i had to subscribe bro your contents fire . you explain shit so thoroughly better than anybody else . looking forward to future uploads im here to stay brotha
I think this list is quite on the mark. What makes it fun to do this ranking is the fact that the blade is truly an extension of the shinigami itself and it's personality. Therefore it's sortof ranking shinigami themselves. What I like is how the blades also fit the personalities. Kenpachi and Nozarashi are savages, Benihime and Urahara are versitile, having a solution for just about anything. Ryujin Jakka like Yamamoto are the apex of Shinigami might, Aizen and Kyokasuigetsu are near perfect, almost unbeatable.
23:16- It's very telling Aizen immediately becomes an Hogyoku-obsessed brute who discards his previous powers for delusions and brute strength in order for the heroes to stand a chance.
Eh, just as likely it plays into the idea of the Hogyoku granting one's heart's desire. Aizen didn't want to win, not really, he wanted someone to be as powerful as him, to stand as tall as he did. So I'd even give the personality change a pass, because deep down he was tired of hiding.
@@LupineShadowOmega can't really stand on that being the "sole" answer. Especially when aizen immediately fuses with his zanpakto because he seeked for the power that defeated him. Also, aizen never wanted to be defeated, he only felt lonely that noone could understand his ideals, but his intent to be defeated wasn't one. The loneliness ichigo felt could very well also be seen as KS's loneliness as aizen completely disregarded it. Urahara already shows a discontent to ichigo's summary of aizen's defeat anyways. Though, it's left ambiguous, but, at the very least, we can see aizen actually having intentions and wish to thrive and win or else he would have never evolved after the monster form.
It looks more like, aizen got blinded by his bruteness. He didn't want to stay and fight in delusions and wanted to show his own rising power which had entered the "realm of God".
@@Hellos2372 kinda right, kinda not. Just like a sword is an extension of a swordsman's arm, a zanpakto spirit are extensions of shinigami, and inturn a part of the shinigamis. So, yes you are correct on that regard completely. But to almost all shinigamis, despite zanpakto being an extension, it is also seen/treated as a separate being. In case of aizen, KS was a separate being until aizen fused with KS. After the fusion, yes, Aizen is KS, and KS is aizen. And that's because of the sword fusion. So, yes, that point of yours is correct, but it only applies after his sword fusion.
@@sladew9788 To be fair to your points, he actually wasn't defeated. At least not lastingly. He was definitely regenerating from that last attack when he got sealed, so actually fair enough.
Mine would be 1- Kyoka Suigetsu - All war is deception 2- Ichimonji - No sells everything 3- Ryuujin jakka - Tremendous attack power and great terrain control 4- Benihime - Incredible versatilily allows for rapid adaptation of one's strategy 5- Zangetsu- Reach, range, burst damage and an impromptu way to bandage wounds. Its efficient, if not the most tactical, very vanilla. 6- Katen Kyokotsu - Heavily skill reliant, but provides an amazing toolkit to a sagacious and unorthodox user 7- Nozarashi - Big sword of ultimate attack power go swoosh 8- Engetsu- Great attack power, excellent reach, massive burst damage 9- Shinso - Simple, but provides great range and crowd control 10- Sakanade - Its extremely difficult to adjust for the illusions on the go 11- Ashisogi Jizo - Every hit gives an edge
Good list, but for me both Zangetsu and Engetsu gets pretty overrated here. Their users are obviously super strong, but the the Shikais themselves aren't that impressive. Super vanilla and not versatile, just a strong attack that can easily be dodged. Much more versatile Shikais like Senbon zakura and Hyorimaru deserves a spot on this list before them IMO.
1 - Ichimonji - low key reality warper/metaphor for the artist paintbrush in a work about an author making art into a story. It literally hard counters everything that isn't a higher tier of reality warper. Better by far than most bankai, really only matched by other setting breaking things like the Hogyoku or the Almighty. 2 - Ryuujin Jakka - Has the destructive power of a whole damn bankai in a shikai package. It's pretty damn ridiculous. May actually not be worth ranking this high, depending on how much of it's power is because of old man yama, and how much is because of that's just what Ryuujin Jakka does. 3 - Suzumebachi - Hilariously deadly weapon that's held back by having a shitty wielder. Put this in the hands of, say, Shunsui instead of Soi Fon and watch almost every villain in the series just flat *die* full stop. 4 - Haineko - Haineko is literally Senbonzakura Kageyoshi's first form, but wielded by someone too weak to take advantage of what it can actually do. In the hands of someone actually strong and not freaking Matsumoto, Haineko is genuinely ridiculously broken. 5 - Benihime - Pretty much has enough powers that it's not unreasonable to think of it as a 'powers as the plot demands it' type of weapon. 6 - Zangetsu - ONLY if we're counting the hybridization factors (horn of salvation, hollow powers, regen, etc.) as part of the zanpakutou abilities, and not something separate that's unique to Ichigo. Basically if you slapped Zangetsu into the hands of a random shinigami and they got that whole package, this is where it ranks. Otherwise it's not even in the top 10. 7 - Ashisogi Jizo - Full paralysis of any biological lifeform with just a scratch. Honestly, you could make the argument of this being directly better than 4 5 and 6 as long as you're facing down things that can be poisoned. 8 - Kyoka Suigetsu - A very strong ability, yes, but the way Aizen used it as part of a century long scheme that allowed him to literally get *everyone* that could have opposed him under it's effects before launching his rebellion makes it seem better than it really is, in a neutral scenario, that is. Without Aizen's careful use of it's power, it isn't nearly *as* effective, though it's still scary good. 9 - Sakanade - Actually about as good as Kyoka Suigetsu in a straight fight, it suffers from the same problem as Suzumebachi however - Shinji is freaking terrible at fighting and makes Sakanade seem FAR worse than it really is. Put this in Aizen's hands, and put Kyoka Suigetsu in Shinji's hands, and the result of the fight would still be exactly the same. 10 - Katen Kyokotsu - Honestly, there were a lot of Zanpakutou that I kind of wanted to place here, but none of them really stood heads and shoulders above the others. I place Katen Kyokotsu here because frankly, if *everything* about it decides to work perfectly, it's *very* dangerous. The problem is that the zanpakutou isn't necessarily going to cooperate and do what it's wielder needs it to do, thus resulting in a lower ranking.
Soifon's is perfect being an assassin, she operates far better with it more than that cumbersome nuke that's representing her inner fiery personality. Definitely not someone whose lethal temper you'd want to provoke much less be after you as even Yoruichi almost found out.
After thinking about it for a while, I believe it gets in her way. Her one finger loses all ability to move, so any acrobatics that rely on that hand get needlessly difficult. She loses reach when compared to the sealed form too. The sting cannot protect her finger from a direct hit and her other fingers are not well defended by the gauntlet. Meaning she loses all ability to block attacks when she uses shikai. Plus, it demands too much precision amidst the chaos of extremely close range combat. I think the reason its a bad shikai for her is deliberate. Soifon wants to present herself as an assassin, but she doesn't have the composure or pragmatism to be one. Probably because she was raised that way, she wants to be pointed at a target and then direct her passion towards eliminating them, which her bankai reflects. I theorize that the more attuned a shinigami is to their zanpakutou, the closer their shikai (how they present themselves) and their bankai (who they are) will become. Soifon's is close enough that we see a pattern, but I think the shikai might morph again if she has more character growth.
@@KaiserAfini True. In that same context for all her admiration of Yoruichi it's clear she only does so on a superficial basis. If she truly understood Yoruichi she would've acknowledged and respected her decision to abandon Soul Society to rescue her friends from injustice. Instead she became a vindictive tyrant who led her troops by force instead of true respect and caring like Yoruichi did.
@@KaiserAfini i honestly think Suzamebachi is one of the best designed zankaptou. It's lethal withot being broken, and i like that Soifon designed her fighting style in harmony with using it (focus on speed & hakuda so she's able to get in close as much as possible without worrying about being countered). As a pure zankaptou though Gin's shinso is honestly the perfect zankpatou for an assassin. Why bother getting in close when you can snipe people with insta kill poison from 13km away at ridiculous speed? lol
@@KaiserAfini The zanpakutou's shikai & bankai abilities are usually related in some way, and for Suzumebachi it seems like the connective thread could well be "Excessive Force". Anyone Soifon can catch with the two-hit kill ability, she can almost certainly kill some other way, even just using the sealed zanpakutou as a conventional dagger, but the shikai will very extremely ensure the target is dead and obliterates their entire body in the process. The bankai is a missile that launches so hard it blows her off her feet if she doesn't anchor herself. personality
Hitsugaya's usage of an ice spike on his knee to enhance his Hakuda makes me wonder how versatile his Shikai really is even in close quarters. He could create additional armor and weapons out of ice. Imagine him creating a second sword out of ice and start dual-wielding😂 We've seen from his Bankai that he can close up wounds with ice to continue fighting longer, and even 'repair' his sword when damaged (Bazz-B's Burner Finger 2 cleaved Hyorinmaru in two, then when Hitsugaya used Bankai against Cang Du, the blade was repaired with ice. That might be done with his Bankai, but it's likely those tricks are still usable in Shikai. It's a pity Kubo removed the chain and sickle from his Shikai.
Shinji's & Aizen's shikai is so powerful that they had to cut the scenes so as to make sure it doesn't lower down the image of ichigo..just imagine how powerful the Bankai would be..🥶🥶🥶
Ooohhh dope vid, I’ve been busy all day and now have the time to look on my phone, and I felt that a video just got uploaded so yay 😁. Also possible vid idea: Bankai activation rituals. Some characters have them some don’t, just a quick but kind of interesting idea
I made my own list before I even watched this video and it just made me realize how some zanpaktou could be top 5 bankais but not even make top 10 shikais and visa-versa so looking forward to the results
I just want to take a second to point out that Shinji is actually a lot more powerful than he is given credit for in the show when you really think about it. Based off Aizen's statement about every shinigami battle being a battle between reiatsu. Even though Shinji may not have been powerful enough to defeat Aizen. He was at least powerful enough where his shikai was able to effect Aizen and that's without his mask too. It's a real shame the treatment Shinji gets he really is a awesome character.
I think that is a testament to his spiritual pressure...since Aizen wasn't able to just totally negate his ability. However, like Aizen said, it's simply an optical illusion and if you know how it works it's definitely possible to fight against it and win. As he did
@@Hellos2372 I 100% agree you have to consciously raise and lower your spiritual energy to negate someone's ability and Aizen definitely is the arrogant type to allow Shinji's shikai to effect him just so he can ruin his day when he reveals it was all what he wanted. I just believe that Aizen's natural spiritual is just that much higher than most that it by default negs abilities without him raising it like soifon I don't think he raised his spiritual pressure for her at all when she tried her double stab. Same with people like Hitsugaya he knows these people very well, arguably better than they know themselves. So he would just leave his power at normal levels when they attack. Whereas Shinji now being a vizard who hopefully has been training somewhat since his exile instead of being complacent after controlling his hollow mask he did in fact manage to actually land a hit on Aizen. Which seemed to make Aizen turn up just enough that he needed to shut Shinji down after Shinji started getting to confident. But I could be incredibly wrong and your right that Aizen was just toying with him the whole time. I just would like to believe Shinji is just that strong for his shikai to be able to at the very least effect Aizen. Since we did after all see people like Isshin and Kisuke manage to "hurt" Aizen and that's after the hogyoku evolving him once so with him being that strong then I feel like he would have to actively be suppressing his reiatsu then where as if he wasn't i feel that his base spiritual pressure in that state would've negged all their hits. Not that any of them really did anything to him anyways. I say all that just to say I believe there were captains that were in fact very slightly in Aizen's league whether he was suppressing his spiritual power or not
At first I thought Omaeda was robbed and I was outraged. And then I calmed down because I realized Gegetsuburi is clearly a bankai and wasn’t eligible for the list.

I definitely think you should do another of these videos for filler, movie, and light novel material because OH BOY did they introduce some ridiculous shikai abilities like controlling all Zanpakuto and merging with nature 😆
Kazeshini must be in the list imo. This Zanpakuto can make you litteraly IMMORTAL. That’s make it SUPER STRONG. Like Shinji’s Zanpakuto his Shikai better than his Bankai. And of course Ik There will be Ryujin Jakka,Ichimonji,Katen Kyokotsu,Kyoka Suigetsu
All abilities should have weaknesses that's what makes you a good writer. Anyone can make an overpowered ability, but only smart writers can make powerful but balanced ones
Agreed. I find ilusion to be an awesome power, but Kyouka Suigetsu just fails at being interesting because it has no relevant weaknesses or limitations.
@asellape92 To me, it's only because this isn't a well known fact it makes his shikai that high on the list. Honestly I think it's comparable to Tousen's shikai.

@@sugarxxxplum9635 not correct. Kazeshini will heal all wounds Hisagi suffers while using his Shikai release. This explains how he not only survived his fight with Tousen, but how he quickly returned to that fight without any healers assisting him. His Bankai works similarly, except in Bankai both he and his opponent can die if their reiatsu is completely drained.
Not surprised at the top 3 Aizen, Yamamoto and Ichibe are simply insane Ichimonji feels kinda meta at times like Kubo's pen itself come manifest in the world, absolutely GOAT'd ability Yamajii, nothing much to say here, everything just burns Kyoka Suigetsu is pretty insane, virtually no weaknesses or limits and can straight up fooled Soul King Yhwach Something I noticed, I speculated that this might have been a train of thought of Kubo might have had that you have 3 Zanpakutous, from three related characters that mess with sense data and is induced by an externalise sense. Aizen by sight , Shinji by smell and Rose by hearing, I always felt that was more than coincidence. Benihime always felt like the swiss army Zanpakuto and my fan speculation is that it's modified and front loaded with Kido with help from Tessai I always wished Ichigo did more Quincy or Quincy like stuff with his True Shikai form and we got something like in BBS.
This list is good. Id have reordered it and added some other honorable mentions. Honorable Mention: Sogyo No Kotowari - for energy users this is a crazy power to have. And crazier is that we haven't ever seen the full extent of it. Ukitake is one if the oldest and powerful captains before his death. His shikai alone was problematic enough when Stark analyzed it but that was only a taste. Shame Kubo never showed is more action from it. Tachikaze - Kensei can wield this power well and honestly, its extremely dangerous for close quarters. Kubo played him badly in TYBW, but they had to build up to Renjis upgrade, so it's whatever. Id still say its one of the stronger shown shikai. Shinso - In Gins hands, very few can stand against it. He honestly could have merked Toshiro with it in SS arc, but he wasn't looking to actually kill him. But it deserves mention considering he gave Ichigo trouble and truthfully, was such a beast that none of the espada ever tried to cross him (that and Aizen would never allow it). 11. Suzumebachi - Aweso.e ability, but not quite that powerful. Long as the opponent is fast enough or has higher reiatsu, this ability is nullified. To note, people say Aizen nullified it. However, when he breaks Kanzen Saimen we see that everyone was really beating up Momo. So im not sure that Aizen was truly being hit by all those attacks. 10. Hyorinmaru - Toshiro is too underdeveloped roght now. His shakai really isnt all that powerful. We can check back in a century and see if this is any better. 9. Senbonzakura - Because Byakuya himself is a powerhouse, it stands to reason his shikai should be higher. It is very versatile in terms of offense and defense capabilities. 8. Zangestu - Even his purest shikai form hasnt truly been seen. While i give it to him that his shikai has raw power that belongs higher on the list its still a p e trick pony and wouldnt get him out of certain abilities. 7. Sakanade - Will forever go down as the first ability to screw with Aizen and put a wound on him. Sakanade is not a discount version of KS because Shinji is arguably older than Aizen, so his ability would predate KS. To anyone but say the top dogs of the series, this ability is dangerous for everyone else. 6. Katen Kyokotsu - He'd be even higher but his shikai is too moody. When it kicks into gear its Aizen level danger. When not, makes the fight dofficult for him. 5. Nozarashi - In terms of pure power and strength, this one is up among the most danegrous and strongest shikai. I wouldnt go any higher cause it hasnt showcased anything more than being able to cut through almost anything, but still, thats a crazy power to have even against something like Gremmys imagination. 4. Benihime - Easily the most versatile on theist or close to it. Not the outright strongest, but Urahara has proven time and again that he wields the ability to control the power and design of the attacks and has defensive capabilities that he also can control. It outperformed most of the G13 against Aizen in evolution (which was more powerful than the one that faced off against the G13). I agree with the top 3 in that order for obvious reasons. Ichibei belongs at the top considering he can actually ruin you without even releasing his zanpaktou.
27:31 I feel like you're underestimating what Zaraki could do with a simple heavy weight. I bet he'd barely notice. He'd probably Just swing it harder.
I can't see why Kenpachi's shikai was included honestly. Its just a big sword? No reak abilities that we know of iirc. Put it in the hands of a lesser soul reaper and itd be less than generic imo
Imagine if everyone in Soul society just left and flee and it's just Shinji, when the quincy arrived, he use his bankai and everyone just get demolished by Gremmy
Gin's my spirit animal, so I'm biased 😅 It poses awesome offensive and defensive abilities considering its contraction speed. AND, it can poison and cause necrosis at will when struck. Such an awesome blade Mr. Tommo. 😁
Ichibee is such a fascinating character because we understand exactly what he wants and what his goals are but he's so far above human morality that he comes off so alien and almost malicious. Just like what a being from some higher plane who's live is defined by a single objective would be like.
I think Kyoka Suigetsu is Aizen's bankai not his shikai. Aizen has been characterized as truthful yet misleading. I think he told the truth about his shikai to the Gotei 13, but showed them his bankai to "curse" them.
One underrated thing about Soi Fong's Sizimebachi is it's not necessarily "two hit insta kill". It's been shown numerous times Soi Fong is more than willing to win by attrition. Just stab your opponent 1000 times and then 1001th hit is almost guaranteed to insta kill It's still quite limited, but nonetheless extremely powerful. Either an enemy shuts Soi Fong down or they're dead, simple as that
What make Byakuya's Shikai for me is not how strong it is, but how Byakuya is using it, What he says when he using it and what his enemies thinks when he using it. Like the moment he using it on Renji for the first time U can see how scared Renji is. Idk if he was scared but if I was Renji at that moment, I would be frozen. Not the matter Renji was also stuck by Byakuya's kido technic. And once he using his shikai there is no where to go. Its like Gin said "Byakuya is one scary captain. Sometimes I dont think he has a heart" Also the way he explain what Senbonzakura does is also quite bone chilling. And poor Ganju but I glad it was him who took the hit coz I had felt so bad if it was Anataro. That guy who only wanted to save a friend and doing whats right, getting punished by Senbonzakura had been quite devastating. And I think it had made Byakuya looking really bad from it.
Don't forget the power of the Tsunayashiro clan zanpakuto which shikai, has the ability to simultaneously copy the abilities of any others zanpakuto its owner ever seen
i would have loved to see a team up of tousen and shinji, yeah totally fan fic and not really possible. but could you imagine fighting shinjis shikai in a pitch black, silencing void? thats just a menacing thought.
I disagree Sakanade's biggest Shikai is Shinji's "not keeping his mouth shut"! As he himself said, in his fight against Aizen, the more seasoned you are in battle the more instinctively you attack and well, the more you relly on your muscle memory. In the end, it doesn't matter if he explains it or not, AND, if he explains, he can even exploit it. By saying "I've reversed everything", the opponent might now start thinking in reverse, like "He's coming from the front, let me defend my back", but then he actually comes from the front. Regardless if he explains it or not, you are still confused and reversed. If we look at it, it only lost against the 2 people who were more suited to counter it: The man who's basically immune to hypnosis cause well, that's his ability, and a girl who, regardless of what you do to her, as long as she can shoot Reiatsu, you could cut off her 4 limbs and leave her as a torso with a head, and she would still be able to bomb everything around. The only one where "talking too much" is a weakness would be Rose. Outside of that, what can you do even if you know your senses have been reversed? I mean, anyone besides genius like Aizen, Urahara, Mayuri would definetly have a hard time having to suddenly fight and think in a different way of how they've been fighthing for hundreds of years
1:43 , now I know it's a movie but can someone explain to me how Hyōrinmaru is being wielded by two Soul Reapers if the Zanpakutō is only meant to be inheriently linked to one person? I watched that movie when I was way younger so Kusaka's character never really made much sense to me. I just thought it was cool having Toshiro go up against the exact same ice-type & how dark & mysterious Toshiro acts.
It wasn't canon, so there's that. But since we learned how zanpakuto are made in the TYBW arc, the only way that two shinigami could share the same zanpakuto spirit is if both of the shinigami shared a single soul. Since the shikai/bankai are a reflection of the shinigami's soul, having two people that share one soul would result in two of the same zanpakuto.
@@wolfgod6443 he fought shuhei
@@bicevipribicevipri7240 Shuhei wasn't using his shikai at the time though. I can't remember whether he had his zanpakto at all or not though.

So at any point when you’re fighting Gin, as long as there is a straight line between you and him, you are most likely in range of Shinso stabbing you
Oh god, that’s terrifying…
@@RickyUzumaki993 Exactly . One shot kill 2😮
Though, Shinso may be decently fast, but not always fast enough to be decisive against high level opponents, as we see Hitsugaya dodge a surprise point-blank attack in the Soul Society arc.
But...that could apply to many techniques and abilities
Still my favorite moment in Bleach him blasting through Jidanbo and ichigo. As the gate closes he says "bye bye"

Thank you for pointing that out. Seems poetic
Or drink your fill of battle
@@windmirror7083 boo
@@windmirror7083 almost makes no sense
And then there is ichigo...
Something as strong as your imagination can come up with always sounds like the most versatile and fun to use.
but Benihime also is Urahara's zanpaktou due to his researcher nature which analyzes and creates things
@@nicolaemihai3581 Benihime is a zankaputo that's as versatile as Urahara is. It's perfect for him really xD
That makes sense or she reconstructs herself in Shikai and others in Bankai. As a Shikai and Bankai have to have a corresponding theme
Reconstruction as the theme of his bankai sounds very fitting for a scientist
After seeing the Bankai and giving thought to it, I also got to that conclusion. The Shikai ability is to reconstruct Urahara's Reiatsu into different forms: A shield, "bullets", an exploding net, energy cut, and the Bankai just makes it stronger by letting Urahara reconstruct phisycal stuff instead of only his Reiatsu
He's a freaking alchemist 😂 I love it.
So his shikai is like a green lantern ring
This video made me realize that kisuke and aizen has basically exact opposites of the same kind of shikai. Kisukes can create basically anything while aizens can make it seem like anything can happen.
Aka one can do anything and one can make you think anything can happen.
Kind of funny that the two smartest people have incredibly similar weapons thematically and yet use their powers so different.
or in other words reality vs fantasy perfect for the two smartest beings in bleach

Alright, fair enough, I haven't read any of the novels yet. That does beg the question tho. Why didn't he use it on Ywach at the end, since he had been caught in KS? What does Aizen's Bankai do, or is that part not stated?

@@chavaspada how would those counteract him? Just having many doesn't negate it's ability completely.

How fast does Wabisuke double the weight? 8 cuts is x256, that reggai was dealing with x100,000,000 by that point & the weight just keeps increasing.
Always loved how Ukitake’s shikai looks, very effective against kido (and I imagine quincy stuff too). Urahara’s Benihime is awesome too
I love the fact that Aizen's Zanpakutou rules the first five senses while Shinji's Sakanade seems to control the next five senses ^^ Awesome worldbuilding.
Huh, never thought of this. Food for analysis for sure.
This is proven by Azien controlling Yw, don't know how to spell his name, the quincy leader perception of time
I thought shinzi sakanade is only an optical illusion
Feel like Gin should be on this on honorable mention. It's simple but deadly
Not sure how much the poison aspect from his bankai is included in the shikai. If none, aside from it turning into a powder when elongating, then I would put it in the same boat as other tricky melee shikai weapons similar to Renji, Ikkaku, and Lisa and Hiyori
@@windmirror7083 its still one of the fastest without the poison. Plus he essentially just has to point it at you

@@VarroTigurius-u1f does he know?

The power difference among shikai is crazy. Some just make a crappy butter knife a little longer or sharper.
While others can blow up the planet….

Top notch content as always you’re definitely on track for the list. Possibly dead on. Keep on keeping on man!
Mine would be
1- Kyoka Suigetsu - All war is deception
2- Ichimonji - No sells everything
3- Ryuujin jakka - Tremendous attack power and great terrain control
4- Benihime - Incredible versatilily allows for rapid adaptation of one's strategy
5- Zangetsu- Reach, range, burst damage and an impromptu way to bandage wounds. Its efficient, if not the most tactical, very vanilla.
6- Katen Kyokotsu - Heavily skill reliant, but provides an amazing toolkit to a sagacious and unorthodox user
7- Nozarashi - Big sword of ultimate attack power go swoosh
8- Engetsu- Great attack power, excellent reach, massive burst damage
9- Shinso - Simple, but provides great range and crowd control
10- Sakanade - Its extremely difficult to adjust for the illusions on the go
11- Ashisogi Jizo - Every hit gives an edge
Good list, but for me both Zangetsu and Engetsu gets pretty overrated here. Their users are obviously super strong, but the the Shikais themselves aren't that impressive. Super vanilla and not versatile, just a strong attack that can easily be dodged.
Much more versatile Shikais like Senbon zakura and Hyorimaru deserves a spot on this list before them IMO.
Shinso is good but I don't it's top 10 and Engetsu isn't that special.

Hi love ur content keep it up
I love it when they have this sponsor!
'Discount Kyoka Suigetsu' had me cracking lmao
"We have Kyoka Suigetsu at home, kids!"
Hitsugaya's usage of an ice spike on his knee to enhance his Hakuda makes me wonder how versatile his Shikai really is even in close quarters.
He could create additional armor and weapons out of ice. Imagine him creating a second sword out of ice and start dual-wielding😂
We've seen from his Bankai that he can close up wounds with ice to continue fighting longer, and even 'repair' his sword when damaged (Bazz-B's Burner Finger 2 cleaved Hyorinmaru in two, then when Hitsugaya used Bankai against Cang Du, the blade was repaired with ice.
Almost 200k tommo congratulations!!!
Aizen. I don't think I need to elaborate.
Nah Yama
I made my own list before I even watched this video and it just made me realize how some zanpaktou could be top 5 bankais but not even make top 10 shikais and visa-versa so looking forward to the results
Your videos butter my biscuits thank you
I just want to take a second to point out that Shinji is actually a lot more powerful than he is given credit for in the show when you really think about it.

Kazeshini can be in this List too. This Shikai makes you immortal!!
That’s like insane ability. İt’s has to be at least Honorable mention’s
You made a mistake bro. Zaraki never hit Gerard's shield with his shikai. He hit it with his base zanpaktou(ch.667 pg.12).
@@kanoreese1253 You're right, I was remembering it wrong - but his Shikai can't seemingly just cut through Gerard's sword with ease either, so it's a similar situation, it just becomes a 'regular' blade in that sense.
@@MrTommo2304 That's because of Hoffnung's reflect hax but even then it was still getting damaged. But I see what you're saying.
Mr. Tommo, next video you should talk about all the kidos that have appeared in the series.
And maybe explain the soul reaper's Zankensoki.
Tommo fair play to you sir you’ve bagged a badie
Bro even made the sponsorship add look fun😭😭😭
pretty solid list
I do think Ichibie's Ichimonji has the most inherent broken ability but I do find it interesting that Yhwach with the Almighty basically overrides Ichimonji's shikai/bankai while Aizen still temporarily pulls one over on Yhwach and the Almighty with Kyoka Suigetsu
It was probably the only good thing about that fight, to be honest.
The is Ichimonji require Ywach to get hit whereas kyoka suigetsu doesn't
perfect because it's really hard to say which is better in certain situations.
I'm dreaming or wishing of you visiting japan and taking a review of some bleach items from merchandise stores^^
I definitely think you should do another of these videos for filler, movie, and light novel material because OH BOY did they introduce some ridiculous shikai abilities like controlling all Zanpakuto and merging with nature 😆
Nozarashi's design is so sick, it looks like an Ultra Greatsword from Dark Souls.
Kazeshini's BANKAI can to that. To my knowledge the shikai is mainly a combat type
@@uraharakisuke1329 Nope. The immortality is Shikai too.
@@mustafaozdemiroglu5853 you're right I just looked it up. I haven't finished cfyow that's where I messed up
You can still kill kazeshinis wielder if you exhaust his reiatsu.
In regards to Aizen and his Shikai, Gin proved that you only need to touch the blade to ensure you're not seeing an illusion correct?
Yes, and Yama arguably indirect proved that even earlier by stating that he had no doubt about the energy of a Zanpakuto cutting his flesh.
@asellape92 To me, it's only because this isn't a well known fact it makes his shikai that high on the list. Honestly I think it's comparable to Tousen's shikai.
@@anthonywilson9759 Mm. I wouldn’t go that far myself, but it does have an exploitable weakness, yes.
Bennihemai’s shikai is energy manipulation and Bankai is matter manipulation
I love bleach and stark was one of the reasons I loved the hueco Mundo arc I feel like he deserved better but seeing as kyoraku is my favorite captain it was a dream match for me
Great list but I gotta put Kisuke in my top 3. Also you have the only ad I ever watch
Hi it’s me again. You and Jade should have a channel just reviewing treats. You have great chemistry lol
Kazeshini should be an honorable mention. Immortality while using shikai is impressive.
This is based on main source material. Not the LNs.
The Immortality thing is Shuhei Bankai, not Shikai
@@sugarxxxplum9635 not correct. Kazeshini will heal all wounds Hisagi suffers while using his Shikai release. This explains how he not only survived his fight with Tousen, but how he quickly returned to that fight without any healers assisting him. His Bankai works similarly, except in Bankai both he and his opponent can die if their reiatsu is completely drained.
@@annhenriques3520 Yeah, srry i forgot it was in shikai too, thanks!
Great video
"Most powerfull bankai"
Aizen : Ew what is that ? 🤡💩
"Most powerfull shikai"
Aizen : Oh hell yeah ! 😈😎
Not surprised at the top 3 Aizen, Yamamoto and Ichibe are simply insane
Ichimonji feels kinda meta at times like Kubo's pen itself come manifest in the world, absolutely GOAT'd ability
Yamajii, nothing much to say here, everything just burns
Kyoka Suigetsu is pretty insane, virtually no weaknesses or limits and can straight up fooled Soul King Yhwach
Something I noticed, I speculated that this might have been a train of thought of Kubo might have had that you have 3 Zanpakutous, from three related characters that mess with sense data and is induced by an externalise sense.
Aizen by sight , Shinji by smell and Rose by hearing, I always felt that was more than coincidence.
Benihime always felt like the swiss army Zanpakuto and my fan speculation is that it's modified and front loaded with Kido with help from Tessai
I always wished Ichigo did more Quincy or Quincy like stuff with his True Shikai form and we got something like in BBS.
By the end of the series getsuga is an attack that I think most enemies fear I don't think there are many who want to be in front of it
That was a fun/cute ad, thanks.
I was about to be like
WHERES UNOHANA?!
And then remember its a shikai contest lmao
Yamamoto would evaporate the ink if it burns everything that would include a name
Kenpachi and ichigo’s blades remind me of each of their overflowing power.
This list is good. Id have reordered it and added some other honorable mentions.
Honorable Mention:
Sogyo No Kotowari - for energy users this is a crazy power to have.
I’d really enjoy watching if you did a video on your ranking of the best Zanpakuto release commands
I would love to watch a part two.
I can't see why Kenpachi's shikai was included honestly. Its just a big sword? No reak abilities that we know of iirc. Put it in the hands of a lesser soul reaper and itd be less than generic imo
ryugin jakka is stronger than most bankai. It's a major event everytime we see it.
Tommo. 😁
U should rank every shikai
1:00 I believe Komamura is an exception. Unless I remember wrong, he used his bankai before ever showing his shikai
Where is yumichika? His shikai was mistaken as a bankai.
I didn't watch the video yet but I hope some underrated shikai like Kira's, Yumichika's and Hanataro's would be mentionned
We need team with 2 Illusionist Captains
Ichibee is such a fascinating character because we understand exactly what he wants and what his goals are but he's so far above human morality that he comes off so alien and almost malicious. Just like what a being from some higher plane who's live is defined by a single objective would be like.
What about Ukitake's shikai?
I think Kyoka Suigetsu is Aizen's bankai not his shikai. Aizen has been characterized as truthful yet misleading. I think he told the truth about his shikai to the Gotei 13, but showed them his bankai to "curse" them.
One underrated thing about Soi Fong's Sizimebachi is it's not necessarily "two hit insta kill". It's been shown numerous times Soi Fong is more than willing to win by attrition. Just stab your opponent 1000 times and then 1001th hit is almost guaranteed to insta kill
It's still quite limited, but nonetheless extremely powerful.
Sometimes I dont think he has a heart"
Also the way he explain what Senbonzakura does is also quite bone chilling.
Rukia's and Mayuri's should definitely be in the actual top 10.
What is Mayuri shikai ? I only know his bankai
I do think Gin and Ukitake's shikais deserved to be somewhere on this list.
i would have loved to see a team up of tousen and shinji, yeah totally fan fic and not really possible.
but could you imagine fighting shinjis shikai in a pitch black, silencing void?
thats just a menacing thought.
I mean, anyone besides genius like Aizen, Urahara, Mayuri would definetly have a hard time having to suddenly fight and think in a different way of how they've been fighthing for hundreds of years
Ruri-iro Kujaku should have been on the list. It's almost an absolute victory AND healing yourself by your enemy's power once released.
@@-Keith- that makes a lot of sense thank you!! i had just thought about it for a second during the video & i couldn't wrap my head around it
