@@m.czandogg9576 Yeah cutting off a hand from a creature that is made out of soul tends to nerf them a fuckton. I understand the reasoning but I'm still sad that we will literally never see the old man fight with his actual full might.
There is a poetry in the concept of his zanpaktou. Using the concept of fire, the shikai is an untamed type of fire truly devastating on a spread out level only focused on the primary use of fire destruction. Whatever form it has whether it was when he fought aizen, the three beast ladies or just the typical flame burst, as you can notice, all is just for destruction - no specific form as well just like how you see fire in the wild, thus the primary use of fire. BUT the bankai is the focused concentrated, and purposeful use of fire. This version you can see the various use of fire just like how we humans uses fire apart from killing animals or cooking them. It is not just power but a smart tactical use. The different forms shows the different uses of fire. Fire gives life, Fire Protects and a lot more. Thus it is more powerful and a symbol of his wisdom - the bankai shows his age and tenure in soul society. I hope this makes sense to everyone.
Zanka no Tachi is amazing. It feels like something that Kubo was planning for quite a while. It's so visually wonderful, and so stupid strong, gives so much Yamamoto vibes, it fits perfectly.
thats some mess up shit imagine ur loved one/family/ or good very close friend clinging into you with despair on their faces reflecting the blame on you that their deaths tied to you and whats worse if u did manage to break or destroy them, they keep on coming back to haunt u
I can agree with that. I appreciated that the bankai's theme was so related to the shikai's abilities and theme! Some of the others were unexpected to me because their shikai's abilities were so different than what their bankai became (unexpected in both good ways and bad ways).
If you notice, some of the skeletons summoned by ZnT South are holding Zanpakutou. I think that explains the meaning behind what Yama said to Shunsui about it being a monster that messed up Soul Society
Well yeah, in his monologue after Yamamoto's death Yhwach explains that his greatest weakness was going soft over the years. He claims that he once never cared about anyone, not even his own comrades, as we see in the anime opening of the Episode 7. So all those people holding Zanpakutōs are most likely all the people he accidentally killed with his own power throughout the years.
With any Bankai characters, it's always a question of why they don't use it during a fight especially when the stakes are so high. Yamamoto perfectly answered that question.
"Listen to what people say I just said Zanka no Tachi East, East means there is a West too. Well then, I guess that i will make it visible to your eyes as well." Zanka no Tachi West "Zanjitsu Gokui"
Are you serious? Ichibei could just whisper "Nigga yo zanpaktou ain't shit" and boom.......Yamamoto just brought a sharp stick to a shinigami fight 😂😂😂🤦🏾♂️ Yamamoto vs Tsukishima on the other hand would be dope AF, Ichibei ain't a fair fight for no one honestly
I could see a brief non-canon flashback to young Yamamoto vs yuba bach during the start of their tybw fight. A perfect liberty afforded to an anime and an interesting way to extend the story.
Yamamoto's Bankai has to be one of the most powerful abilities I've ever seen in fiction (and yes, I am aware of the ridiculous things that go on in Marvel and DC comics). Kubo definitely knew that as well, hence why he wrote it out after Yhwach "stole" it (if Yhwach had used it against Ichigo and Aizen, they would've died immediately lol). He knew that he overdid it.
I personally think that Yamamoto was holding back so that he wouldn't destroy the Soul society and if he was truly holding back it could be that Zanka no Tachi north was severely held back so that it wouldn't destroy everything in it's path.
Best bankai in the entire series. I love it. Yamamoto is such an awesome character. I wish Kubo had the balls to be as ruthless with Byakuya and Hitsugaya as he was with Yamamoto.
he was going to kill off Byakuya but he got threats for trying to do that but I doubt he was going to kill off Hitsugaya considering he's the prodigy of the series and he would just be wasted potential if he died
One of the best moments of the final arc for me. Fire Yama pretty perfectly. Loved how it was just an ultra compressed version of his usual flames. Feel like either it or Ichimonji are the two most powerful, with abilities that are so damn different. Appreciate the time you took to make this video. Would you ever consider making a top 10 strongest characters list? Would be interesting to see your opinions on it.
Imo Yhwach only stole the bankai to spite Yamamoto as a final act of dominance over his former arch-enemy. He hates Yamamoto so much that he refuses to use the bankai for anything else, his pride won't allow it. That, and the fact he considered the Almighty to be invincible which is the source of his hubris and ultimate downfall.
I mean the fight against Ywach wasn‘t rlly fair, since he could just steal his Bandai. But then again, if he didn‘t use that ability then the TYBW would‘ve been over after that :/
North should've been a divine attack like a slash that cannot be evaded if you are within Yama's line of sight, he just cuts what he sees from any distance or range without having to touch it, and the target blows up nuclear, or fades into nothingness. Given what we saw, this wouldn't be too far-fetched.
i really hope when the anime comes back that they keep the old music, id love for yamamoto to activate his bankai and all you hear is ''if you wanna see some action, you've got to be the centre of attraction''
If you mean in terms of strength I would probably agree, other than maybe shunsuis banaki. If you mean as a character I would argue as we never got the chance to know him or see him fight as much as other characters.
Genryusai is certainly one of the best. But I wouldn’t say THE best. He tends to stick to the rules way too much and cannot take drastic measures to adapt to the situation. He would have never let Aizen out to help the soul society. It was Kyorakus far sightedness that allowed him to see that Aizen was required if they wanted to actually beat Yhwach
Reading the manga at the time, it was amazing to see the Ban Kai. I agree wtih you that I feel like Kubo did the Bankai justiice, even North was fine - as I expected some really big powered attack.
That would be the Hype lit ending of an episode.... The biggest flex for him is when he said "I am the Greatest Security here" when Qunicy tried to infultrate the Head captains quarters
I remember seeing him release his Shikai for the first time ; I was mesmerized not by the flashy & monstrous display of power but by his monolithic and wise glare. I knew he was the master for a reason.
Yhwach's statement after Yamas death only makes me wonder what kind of force Yamamoto wouldve been if he just healed his fking arm... instead of 10 he was a 9, in this case it matters cause youre up against "The Almighty".
I always loved seeing the power of his shikai both in manga and anime but when his bankai was revealed it blew me away. He was always my favorite of the captains, I just personally loved frie user's because in almost every manga or anime They're pretty much the epitome strength.
I think that what I like the most about his Bankai is that it brings more complexity to the power of the Zanpakuto, mainly beacuse of the South ability. I mean, we've seen that his Shikai can display abilities like Ennetsu Jigoku and Jokaku Enjo, that already bring some more creative ways to deal with his main power that is the creation/manipulation of flames. But his Bankai's South ability just adds more layers of creativity to his power, to the point that it could do psychological damage to the enemy by using the dead (and we're talking about a Fire type Zanpakuto). I think that Kubo did him justice with his Bankai and really put some effort to showcase it even if it was for just some chapters.
I found his bankai to be very fitting as the sun is a very prominent feature in japanese/eastern culture (its on their flag). The cardinal directions similarly feature in many eastern philosophies/mythologies. In addition, his bankai's sun motif is a great contrast to Hitsugaya's bankai. Sun vs moon, old vs young; a bit yin&yang if you stretch for it. However, its important to remember that the sun is meant to rise in japan, not set. If yamamoto's north technique was about bringing down the sun.... well, japan doesn't have fond memories of suns falling on their land. I suppose an literature scholar could make the arguement that yamamoto's death follows the end of the empire of the rising sun. Still, thank you for compiling all of this information into one video. Helps me remember this series and I can't wait to see it again.
I love it! Thank you I waited so long for this moment. I like the layers north doesn't let your opponent know they're in a dead zone with no way out. He trapped his opponent so challenging him is a deadly choice. This defensive powers allow for the consumption of material will there be a new layer to his weapon transforming into a black hole power source. [Based on this material consumption it will eventually reach that plateau point of implosion resulting in total influence of all.]
Or his Bankai hadn't fully matured yet. From what we're told and shown of his original Bankai, it bares a startling resemblance to his current Shikai. So it's possible he went though a similar growth as Toshiro. His imperfect Bankai is basically just his Shikai dialed up to 11 while his matured Bankai is something different.
@@corruptangel6793 I would agree, if it was anyone else, but yama to me seems like the strongest shinigami. I cannot fathom that he's bankai hadn't fully matured when he was that old.
I can't help but draw parallels between Yamamoto and Sekiro's Shura. The idea of war and flames being closely linked. Yamamoto is very much an old Samurai and being the head captain at this time, he was the pinnacle of warfare within the soul society. His Shikai is using the flames of war, but his bankai is becoming the flames of war, similarly to letting Shura, the spirit and wrath of warfare itself, take control. I can definitely see why Yamamoto doesn't like using it and why he's seen as a demon when he does, because he's letting himself be consumed by the flames of war.
I can see you being disappointed by North, it looks too similar to East. In my opinion the North ability being a sealing ability would much better and adding more diversity to the skillset. It also provides Yamamoto a counter measure against divine being like Gerard or Lille, instead of being an all out brute.
Here's a theory what if his bankai is litterally the power of a sun and the real feat of strength is him containing/condensing it! Like for example if he's in it too much he gets too tired and it litterally like explodes like a sun exploding and thats why it risk destroying all of soul society
I like that his shikai is essentially flame and anger shooting all over vs bankai being more of a condensed and focused fire and rage. I think it was spectacular and it did the commander justice. I think north felt disappointing because there's not much shown for it and we can't get the full scope of north compared to the other directions. I felt like each direction deals with a particular problem with east being overwhelming destructive close range, west being defensive shield, south being numbers and crowd control, and north dealing with range distanced fighters trying to avoid east that north is the counter for it. North looked really cool though in Bleach Brave Souls new bankai Yamamoto from last month. His special is fantastic how he goes for the slice and the letters show up one after another and Yamamoto has this calm yet unforgiving face while he swings.
I feel like kubo should of worked on the character personality aspect of his bankai. Like in the Muramasa arc we never actually saw an image of what his bankai looked like. Was it a person a dragon? Etc.
@@Nerazmus But that's the thing, I feel like Kubo should have expanded on the sword and gave it an actual figure as opposed to fire. Would've been cool js

It depends entirely on whos got the superior spiritual pressure. Either Ichigo paints Yamamoto and or Ryujin Jakka black and gives them a new name, or Yamamoto burns off the black and kills Ichibe. My money's on Ichibe simply because he's older and thus likely has greater spiritual pressure.
That bankai was exactlt what i expected, making a flames work of art was too obvious, and everything disappearing and the sword rusting and deforming, similarly to zaraki's one, made it really scary for me. Less is more and when i first saw it I immediately thought "ok... Why do I hear bosses boss music?"
I never thought Sun... or Phoenix, I always imagined a brutal fiery HELL would be his Bankai. Something breaking the earth itself apart as the flames rose up.
It made sense that we had to wait so long to see it, since being as powerful as it is, if it was revealed too soon we would expect the author to throw yamamoto at any and every threat, removing any fun from future battles. Essentially, it would turn Yamamoto into Goku.
Random thought: The shinigami are already dead in a sense, ya, with them being spirits and such? They havr crazy lifespans, crazy speed, crazy power/durability. Wht don't they go explore space? :\
I find it rather funny that his entire manga ended back in 2016 and yet now in 2021 it's still talked about and reviewed over and over. Hopefully in time it's rebooted
When Yhwach stole Yamas banki, he should of used it against Yama and at that moment it would have been the perfect time for Yama to use kido, mayne even kido we have never seen before.
@@8BitGamer4life Yama was definitely a kido master, considering he used a forbidden kido against Aizen (who was lucky he planned well enough to survive).
even being a kido master,do u really think kidos are comparable to a power like yama bankai?if kidos were this powerful the likes of mayuri, urahara, aizen would bave just used kidos rather than their zanpakuto abilites
I think he did, the panel before yhwach’s sword shoots from the sky, we get a far view shot of yhwach. The same far shot we get of Yama before he says Bankai. Also the attack that kills Yama is very similar to zanki no tachi north.
His bankai is one of my favourites because he unlocked it through his rage. But throughout his long life he developed it and was able to control that amount of power. Not only that but to add in different traits into the bankai, Yama is legendary
Mulling it over, I think Zanka no Tachi is probably one of the best examples of "beauty in simplicity." Yamamoto was never really a complicated person. He was power, directed in a very matter-of-fact way, and he led well because of it. His bankai most definitely exemplifies this by the very straightforward nature of how it operates. Just by powering on, his simple sword swings will delete anything it touches, and his body is wreathed in an immolating cloak of unfathomable heat. In its most basic state, Yama is already practically unstoppable just relying on his practical sword skills, and the very weight of his spirit pressure now acts as a shield to repel all but the most absolute of powers that can reach him. Even more poignant is that you could argue that his flame in this state has been pushed to a near divine state of power, but is kept in check by Yama's patience and focus. As he said to Yhwach, "It does not burn. It does not rage. It merely eliminates all that it touches without a trace." Once pushed enough to where his patience is waned, or perhaps when he realizes that he needs to press harder to win, that is when Yama unfetters the flame, and all hell breaks loose. The damning fire of his blade escapes into the world about him, where its might rouses the very dead it has slain, to fight for its master's side. The final stage of the bankai is best described by its mere name, translating to "Heaven and Earth End in Ashes." The immaculate fire that Yamamoto has created and cultivated over his lifetime, so strong that it burns the soul society itself by merely existing, is unleashed upon all before it, with the single goal of eliminating everything in its path. For the strongest man in the Soul Society, and Captain Commander of all Shinigami - the leader of the gods of death, it would make sense that his true power would be terminal when restrained, and cataclysmic when fully realized. My only disappointment with it was that this power was never used on the true Yhwach, but merely a very talented impersonator. I felt that a man of Yamamoto's stature and importance deserved to go down fighting the strongest the world could throw at him, and not be taken out when he was at his most vulnerable, but that burning passion definitely left a message for all who bore witness to it, both in and out of text, and I think that will always be worth something. Also, given the current Hell Arc, I feel really sorry for those poor saps in the Soul Society right now, since they all probably realized that there is likely an evil undead Yama coming for them soon.
Zanka no Tachi is most definitely a powerful Bankai, if not the most powerful Bankai in the series. I remember exactly where I was and what I was doing when that chapter was released. I also remember reading that chapter in awe of Yamamotos immense power. The only thing that was a little bit of a let down was the North ability. It seems the same as East. Overall though it was awesome to see and I’m glad Tite delivered. When Juha Bach stole Yamamotos Bankai I remember thinking that Juha has everything he needs to take down the royal guard and the soul king. I envisioned I battle where Ichigo would have to over come the power of Yamamotos Bankai wielded by Juha Bach. Turned out Juha was pretty much omnipotent anyway ✨🙌🏻 Awesome video!
If you really think of it Yama still kinda has the best Bankai in the series both big bads in the series Aizen and Yhwach had to have plans in place so Yamamoto couldn't go full power (Bankai) against them without destroying them to nothingness. The thing I am really curious is was, his Bankai even more powerful in his youth (prime) in his first battle against Yhwach and war against the Quincies? And would his Bankai be even more powerful with two hands? Due to the kenjutsu to amplify his power further like Kenpachi did in the Espada battle? I mean if prime power Yama beat Yhwach in the first war does that make Yama more powerful than Yhwach or did Yhwach not have the almighty ability or didnt master it in the first war? We also need filler or flashbacks of the first Quincy war so we can fill the gaps to this and have more backstory of the og Gotei 13, prime/young Yama and Unohanna as the Kenpachi
Naturally, Yama would be stronger with two hands. Juha back then didnt have the allmighty and was bested by yama so he definitely had the edge 1000 years ago. Although if yama fought the real juha, Juha would probably come out on top due to the allmighty.
Yamamoto's Bankai in what little were shown in the past is very similar in look to his current Shikai. So probably near that level I assume. Yamamoto with two hands would have his power increased nearly double or so as he'd have 2 vents for his Spiritual pressure.
@@prithvipramod8653 Yhwach says "regain his sight" when talking about the poem thing regarding his return. Implying he had the Almighty when fighting Yamamoto a thousand years ago. You got to wonder where would Yamamoto even train his Bankai to learn of these abilities. Crazy just HOW many abilities his Bankai has.
Why do you think Hueco Mundo is a giant desert? :D
In his inner world most likely, sparring with his Zanpakuto spirit.
@@Nerazmus If he had trained in Hueco Mundo with his bankai, the whole Espada arc would've been null and void.
@@Cabolt44 Why?
@@Nerazmus Because his bankai would destroy every single hollow in hueco mundo, including the most powerful like the vasto lordes.
"Reduce all creation to ash" indeed. He was not fronting with his zanpakuto's release command.

I can agree with that. I appreciated that the bankai's theme was so related to the shikai's abilities and theme! Some of the others were unexpected to me because their shikai's abilities were so different than what their bankai became (unexpected in both good ways and bad ways).

Well yeah, in his monologue after Yamamoto's death Yhwach explains that his greatest weakness was going soft over the years.
He claims that he once never cared about anyone, not even his own comrades, as we see in the anime opening of the Episode 7.

Just imagine ukitake and Yamamoto pinning someone like monkey in the middle with both just bouncing ryuggin jakkas flames back and forth....

I personally think that Yamamoto was holding back so that he wouldn't destroy the Soul society and if he was truly holding back it could be that Zanka no Tachi north was severely held back so that it wouldn't destroy everything in it's path.
He was one of the captains that I wanted to see his bonkai so badly and I cannot wait to see it on screen.
Zanka no Tachi South is one of the sickest things I've ever seen
That, and the fact he considered the Almighty to be invincible which is the source of his hubris and ultimate downfall.
someone correct me if I'm wrong,
but no one has ever beat Yamamoto in a straight up 1v1 fight without resorting to some kind of trick
yes, you are right.
@JoGeJo *that we've seen*
You're right. Aizen explicity made a counter measure because he knew he couldn't take the old man 1v1.
He lost to Ikomikidomoe
I mean the fight against Ywach wasn‘t rlly fair, since he could just steal his Bandai. But then again, if he didn‘t use that ability then the TYBW would‘ve been over after that :/
Oh yeah , this Bankai totally lived up to hype and more.
It felt very innovative and inspired, the cardinal points angle was a nice touch
North should've been a divine attack like a slash that cannot be evaded if you are within Yama's line of sight, he just cuts what he sees from any distance or range without having to touch it, and the target blows up nuclear, or fades into nothingness.

He got killed like a bitch.
Reading the manga at the time, it was amazing to see the Ban Kai. I agree wtih you that I feel like Kubo did the Bankai justiice, even North was fine - as I expected some really big powered attack.
When the episode ends with yammamto saying "if I don't finish this quickly you me and soul society with burn to the ground"💯🔥
I love your input on the whole series you have a natural talent for this and you're also very charming.
Agreed. He's a great storyteller
One thing I know is that u can burn some marshmello real fast on that fire
Its unfortunate that his original voice actor won't be able to say "Bankai" In the upcoming anime.
I absolutely loved his bankai. Im sure its going to be even more of a spectacle animated!
I think Yamamoto’s Bankai is one of the coolest in the series, and I’d have loved to see it again during the arc with Yhwach
Yama probably condensed the flames of he's bankai because of the destruction he caused last time he fought with it.
I can't believe that I've been watching for months and haven't been subscribed. Glad I am now. 😁
👍👍
Here's a theory what if his bankai is litterally the power of a sun and the real feat of strength is him containing/condensing it! Like for example if he's in it too much he gets too tired and it litterally like explodes like a sun exploding and thats why it risk destroying all of soul society
Yeah,i wish Tenchi Kaizin (North) was like thats, but LOL
Etc.
It's just fire. Raw untamed flames of hell.

That bankai was exactlt what i expected, making a flames work of art was too obvious, and everything disappearing and the sword rusting and deforming, similarly to zaraki's one, made it really scary for me. It made sense that we had to wait so long to see it, since being as powerful as it is, if it was revealed too soon we would expect the author to throw yamamoto at any and every threat, removing any fun from future battles. Essentially, it would turn Yamamoto into Goku.

With a bankai like this, what's the point of even having Sokyoku?
His bankai is one of my favourites because he unlocked it through his rage. But throughout his long life he developed it and was able to control that amount of power. Not only that but to add in different traits into the bankai, Yama is legendary
Amazing bankai and video! Could Zanka no Tachi: North defeat the Miracle?
It’s would beat any Sternritter the only reason YBach survived it was because he had the double take his place otherwise he would have lost himself.
Love you videos bro keep up the good work
Mulling it over, I think Zanka no Tachi is probably one of the best examples of "beauty in simplicity." Yamamoto was never really a complicated person.
It merely eliminates all that it touches without a trace."
Once pushed enough to where his patience is waned, or perhaps when he realizes that he needs to press harder to win, that is when Yama unfetters the flame, and all hell breaks loose.
Yama pissed blazing through the SS holding back to not incinerate everyone meeting Ryod Llyod Juha was epic 🤩
Turned out Juha was pretty much omnipotent anyway ✨🙌🏻
Awesome video!
Ichibei could probably fight Yamamoto. It would be one crazy fight.
