I firmly believe Yama was asked to be a Zero Squad member for his creation of the Gotei. He served as the glimpse into what that level of divine power truly looked like and I could see him turning the role down to be the linchpin between the Gotei 13 of the Soul Society and the Soul King.

FINALLY THANK YOU for making this point. You could make this video for every arc. He had his powers sealed or stolen in every arc, even filler. It got repetitive and felt like we were being robbed. Every time we thought it was Yama time, his appearance was always resolved within just 1 episode. Honestly, Yamamoto is both my favorite character and greatest disappointment in all of anime.
It would have been way more epic to see ywach beat yamamoto even after using his Bankai. That would have emphasized even more how big of a threat ywach was. This isn’t to say he would win easily.
With the benefit of hindsight, I really appreciate this battle as it gave us all the evidence of how Old Man Yama was truly on a different level from every other member of 13 Court Guard Squads. It made his death that much more impactful in TYBW.
I just think the fact that Aizen AND Ywach knew they had to find a way around fighting him is enough to say.. this man was just on another level. When the 2 biggest monsters the 2 most confident villains in a series say “I’d rather not” then you know we are talking about something special.
@@0eyes access his power as in the Almighty? Because before the Almighty teach was still the strongest in the verse, Yama was old with one arm and he still avoided him.
One of the pillars that prevented reiatsu from escaping fake karakura was destroyed in ikkakus fight, Im certain that was enough for him to decide not to use bankai as even a fraction of the heat that wouldve escaped into the real karakura wouldve destroyed karakura, if not more.
Wait. Hold up. Did Yamamoto really say "Did you really think you could defeat me by merely containing Ryujin Jakka?" Dude...Anos Voldigoad's inspiration.
Considering while in bankai he's reiatsu cloaks him in flames, and those flmaes destroy anything that touches him. He has a similar feat to Muken Aizen in that his reiatsu is so intense that nobody below him can touch him.
Remeber Yama also touched Aizen zanpakutou to be sure he's was not in its illusion. Something Gin tells us in the Future it was the only way to scape Kyouka Suigetsu
What I love about Yamaji vs wonderweiss is that its not the sealing of ryujinjakka that does yamaji in, its the threat of his flames potentially injuring innocent humans that does him in. He can only be defeated by himself and he proves this even further by only going down after sacrificing his own arm and using a incantationless hado 96 which causes the untouchable Aizen to back away
When the author makes a character so strong that only he can defeat them. Come to think of it, Kubo did this a lot. And the opposite; some of his other characters literally can’t win.
@@TheSlammurai I knew someone would mention Madara. Only problem is that Kaguya was much more powerful, so it makes no sense to call Madara. Bleach Villian checklist: 0: A way to deal with Yamamoto. 1: A better way to deal with Yamamoto. 2 A good way to deal with Yamamoto, for when 0+1 invariably fail. Even Aizen didn't fully prepare for him. 6:26 "So, could you make that barrier of yours resistant to my bankai?" "Haha, nope." "..." "Oh, and remember that the living world full of fragile people lasts a lasts a _lot_ shorter then the Sereitei full of Shinigami would." I loved this part. The idea that while his flames are legendary, he's not spent the last thousand years neglecting every other aspect of combat he can access.
We all know toshiro would ultimately win but I do think it would still be an interesting battle. Rukia just got Bankai so she was still very inexperienced.
I think the ability to reduce your temperature and the temperature of areas nearby to absolute zero would be snow and ice. Give Rukia a decade or so to master her abilities and she would likely crush Hitsugaya. Now in terms of Zanjutsu he would win, kido I think could go either way. As for hakuda we don't really see Hitsugaya use it and we only see Rukia use a little and only ever really in her gigai.
I remember when this came out for the first time, and my neighbor in the other apartment yelled, "Ay boy, old man fighting boy!" You could hear everyone in their rooms shuffling toward their screens to look up the chapter. This fight was an instant classic for me, firstly it's straight up Kame Sennin from DBZ just for that alone it gets points and secondly what preceded it was great with Yama actually having answer to Kyoka Suigetsu in the most metal way possible. Kubo basically said you need to cheese this Dark Souls boss, go on Gamefaqs I remember in an earlier video, you brought up an interesting observation that Aizen replicated Yamamoto's journey when looking for the OG Gotei when he was looking for the Espada, so Aizen had to have studied Yama a lot in the design of Wonderweiss, like seriously how did Aizen know that Wonderweiss would work against Ryujin Jakka? or what is just a natural product of the hogyoku and the "wish fulfillment" thing? Another query, what exactly happened to the blade itself? was it also absorbed by Wonderweiss or was flung off somewhere?
I remember reading this in the manga for the first time and was totally shocked at how powerful Yamamoto was. Seeing this fight in the anime was awesome too. One of my favorite characters 🔥🔥
Yama is arguable the strongest. For sure top 3 in all of bleach. Every time someone says the zero squad beats him or aizen or ywaach i simple bring up the fact the both aizne and ywach was willing to fight anyone and everyone straight up except yama 😂 both had contiguous just to deal with him.
@@thebk247squad zero was so disappointing and they were such assholes when they came in too. I'm pretty sure from what we saw Kyoraku could kill all of them with his bankai.

Yamato when he fought wonderweis " you think that you could defeat me just because you neutralized my zanpakto, how naive , there is a reason I've been the captain commander all these years !" Yamamoto after losing his bankai " oh shit , what do I do now ?" Cripes kubo 😔.
On that, it was more along the lines of: "Oh shit, I have to do another round and he is fresh, and he took the one thing that could have even the odds."
It's one thing to have his Zanpakuto "neutralized." His flames were sealed. Bachi stealing his Bankai completely cuts him off from his Zanpakuto spirit. It has to be at least a little demoralizing losing both of his oldest, closest allies in the span of like a day. Plus he 100% absolutely misjudged the criteria for stealing a bankai so that was a huge L on his part right there. Triple compounded Ls.
@@josue1996jc My question when I recall the kendo scene with kenpachi and Nnoitra is can every captain do that and have the same results? Or is it just Kenpachi? And if Yama taught Kenpachi, he should be able to do that, right? If so, why wasn't he literally cutting a path thru everything until his zanpakuto had to be used??
My headcanon...I think all the scars on Yama were given to him by Unohana when he recruited her for the OG Gotei 13. I'm thinking she wanted to see if he had the power for such an undertaking.
@@kylemma33 There's a difference between Yama letting a lieutenant level shinagami test his bankai's strength on him as opposed to Yama allowing someone who is physically stronger than himself and a better sword fighter hit him on purpose multiple times.

Considering how Yamamoto was able to beat an 80 percent Ywach, I can't imagine any pure soul reaper surpassing him in raw power and strength besides Kenpachi. NO in fact Kenpachi is literally the only pure soul reaper that could equal or surpass the former head captain.
The only character I see getting this same treatment was Seijuro Hiko XIII from Ruroni Kenshin. Dude was so busted the writer said he couldn't get involved in the main story because the story wouldn't have happened because he'd curbstomp everyone if unleashed. He got ONE fight in the main story and it was against a literal building sized giant and he still one shot them.
I really did wish we saw an all out battle between Bankai yamamoto and ywach using his own vollstandig. That would have been so much more epic and you still could have done it in such a way that ywach got desperate enough to steal it. I’m begging you Kubo please allow ywach to use the stolen power in cour 3 and 4 of the anime🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭
Yamaji is the reason for peace & order in soul society for thousands of years and why noone dared to go up against soul society. I really hope to see him unleased in hell chapter.
Would I have liked to see more of his zanpakto of course. But I like that Kubo made villains have to make a work around for him and Kenpachi. It's solid writing when it comes to wanting overpowered characters .
...but he was defeated, twice. And outsmarted and overpowered, both times. Aizen sealed his sword and turned his own flames against him, knowing he'd jump on the grenade, then he didn't even have enough power left in him to deal damage to Aizen with a spell that cost him his own arm to cast. He only survived becasue Aizen refocused on Ichigo and didn't finish him. And then Yhwach also outsmarted him with a clone, had him expend all his power on it, and then cut him down with a single strike and atomized the body. He knew Yamamoto's anger towards him and his arrogance in his own power, and used it against him. Sure he could deal a lot of damage and his flame shield was a problem to get through, and then the summons, but those don't make someone strong. Aizen and Yhwach were strong, they had strong convictions and wanted something real hard. Yamamoto didn't. He got old and tired. His powers were strong powers, but he himself wasn't a strong person anymore. I mean the villain literally monologues about this after he kills him, you can't get less subtle than that.
Bleach is this guys life but he doesn’t comprehend simple implications. Yamamoto becomes the sun while in bankai. Aizen’s invasion tactics would see the final battle take place on earth. The earth would be instantly disintegrated on bankai activation. Everyone would die, the balance of souls would be destroyed and the 3 worlds will collapse. THE REASON YAMA DIDNT USE BANAKi, ON EARTH, WHILE FIGHTING AIZEN. IS BECAUSE IT WOULD HAVE ENDED THE BLEACH UNIVERSE
One of my favorite fights. The fact that wonderweiss defeated kensei who was using bankai means that yamamoto without ryujin jakka is stronger than kensei in bankai. Very nice video, an eye opener for all the yama doubters
Bro he lost every fight we saw him in I wish, for once anime wasn’r so predictably centered around the protag. I wanted Yama to straight incinerate all the invading sternritters, behead Yhwach and slowly slump back to squad 1 barracks Saying “Hmph. nothing but mere brats. “
@@maalikserebryakov That cause he didn't fight anyone unless they were near his level which was basically no one. He could have incinerated the invading sternritters, the problem is he power would have killed all the Soul Reapers too. They explain why he couldn't use full power because at full power he could destroy the entire soul society. Now yes, they should have shown his strength a little better by letting him fight fodder but half of those people the Captains struggled with Yama could have probably one shotted without his sword. They couldn't face him straight it, they always had to use tricks.
dumbass kid Zero division got tonnes of handouts from the Soul King. Yamamoto is just a pure soul reaper. nothing was given to him. If he hollowfied, went vasto Lorde, do you really think anything can stop him?
If I had a pound for every time Kubo threw out a weird little twink* to try to counter strong characters out of nowhere, I'd have £2, which isn't much, but it's fun that he did it twice. *Wonderweiss and Nianzol
I dont think the Zero Squad aside from Ichibe could beat Yamamoto. Even with the new powers shown by the Zero squad. Just because the worlds are not shown to be shaking, that doesnt mean Yamamoto isnt capable of doing so. Ichibe didnt shake the worlds when activating bakai. Additionally, Yamamoto is capable of destroying the entire soul society realm.
6:33 his bankai wouldve basically been like unleashing an actual sun on the planets surface, considering even in his mega weakened state against roid the heat was that of the core of the sun. a full strength yama doing that wouldve effortlessly blown through the barrier of fake karakura town and prob instantly burnt away earth itself, and he wouldnt allow the harming of innocents
His Bankai is a Nuke can’t just use it however he pleases like other captains…also I think yammy was just so HIM that he didn’t like fights ending quickly
Presumably he stopped making more fire when he found out it was useless against Wonderweiss. He thought the fire was being negated, no point wasting energy on a Shikai whose powers aren't working. As for Bankai, somebody else pointed out that his power might've damaged the pillars. Considering the fight was taking place in the world of the living though, it's also possible his powers would've extended past Fake Karakura Town & caused serious damage to the world as a whole (plus drawn unwanted attention from external forces, if that's even something he'd care about)
Oh my God, thank you for making this video. I am very tired of arguing with Bleach fans and other fan groups about how strong this character is. you have idiots in the Bleach fandom who think Yamamoto’s weak or that like Lele borrow could beat him and I stupid shit like that. It annoys me to no end.
I remember my thoughts about this the day the chapter came out. "His bankai must be so op and dangerous that he'd rather risk letting Aizen win." And sure enough years after that, well lol. After TYBW, I thought "Yeah I'm pretty sure now that he didn't use it because it'd endanger the World of the Living."
Kubo did once say that Yamamoto couldn't release his bankai in the fight against Aisen because it would have destroyed the pillars and karakora town completely negating the point of switching it out.

I firmly believe Yama was asked to be a Zero Squad member for his creation of the Gotei. He served as the glimpse into what that level of divine power truly looked like and I could see him turning the role down to be the linchpin between the Gotei 13 of the Soul Society and the Soul King.
Why would they ask him when he’s the leader of the Gotei 13?
@@0eyes Same reason they asked literally every other member of the Zero Squad. They said it themselves, their only concern is to guard the Soul King. They have no allegiance to the Soul Society.
I believe I read somewhere he's in Hell with Unohana and Ukitake
@@OmegaZeroX28 Well yeah, he’s dead now
@@willgazlay5711 I mean they were already dead before lol I was just saying I believe that currently their souls are in Hell so who knows it might still happen 😶
@@gammafrost Ywach would have gotten bodied at that point in the story
Tite just couldn't handle all that power 😅
@@gammafrostif you do that then you lose that opportunity for the hell arc
@@gammafrostHe would have if he had the Almighty
With the benefit of hindsight, I really appreciate this battle as it gave us all the evidence of how Old Man Yama was truly on a different level from every other member of 13 Court Guard Squads. It made his death that much more impactful in TYBW.
I just think the fact that Aizen AND Ywach knew they had to find a way around fighting him is enough to say.. this man was just on another level. When the 2 biggest monsters the 2 most confident villains in a series say “I’d rather not” then you know we are talking about something special.
Yhwach had to find another way to fight Yama when he couldn’t access his power

Yamamoto CANT release Bankai right there because he'll destroy the planet they're on simply by having 15,000,000C* flames that have a universal range
They do not, in fact, have unlimited range.
@@SinHurrhis flames will destroy the soul society and we have absolutely no idea how big it is compared to the planet earth
One of the pillars that prevented reiatsu from escaping fake karakura was destroyed in ikkakus fight, Im certain that was enough for him to decide not to use bankai as even a fraction of the heat that wouldve escaped into the real karakura wouldve destroyed karakura, if not more.
@@thebk247 We actually do. The earth is as small compared to the soul society as it is to our universe.
@@SinHurr Unlimited range was never stated, universal was; And its easy to prove the Soul Society is equivalent to our universe in size.
Wait. Hold up. Did Yamamoto really say "Did you really think you could defeat me by merely containing Ryujin Jakka?"
Dude...Anos Voldigoad's inspiration.
Yamamoto really said “I wanna be the very best like no one ever was! To smoke them is my real test to flex on em is my cause 🎶🎤
If Yamamoto had the same mindset he had vs the Quincy Aizen, Gin, and Tosen and the rest of the Espada would’ve been toast
Villains: Crap! It's Yamamoto! Where's my deus ex machina? Get it out! Now!
Thanks for making this video about 1 of the most overlooked epic fights at Fake Karakura Town.
“Haha, i’ve made someone SPEFICIALLY to seal and extinguish your flames! You’ll never win!”
“Bet. Can you seal these hands, tho?”
When the author makes a character so strong that only he can defeat them.
Come to think of it, Kubo did this a lot. And the opposite; some of his other characters literally can’t win.
Yep like yama, Gerard, Barragan
Even Aizen to a degree
We never saw his bankai
Reminds me of Madara. 😂
it's not that they can't. it's that they're forbidden
@@TheSlammurai I knew someone would mention Madara. Only problem is that Kaguya was much more powerful, so it makes no sense to call Madara. I already know you will mention Kaguya having no battle experience. Had Kaguya not appeared, Kishimoto would've just made Naruto and Sasuke seal him like they sealed Kaguya.
Bleach Villian checklist:
0: A way to deal with Yamamoto.
1: A better way to deal with Yamamoto.
2 A good way to deal with Yamamoto, for when 0+1 invariably fail.
Even Aizen didn't fully prepare for him.
6:26 "So, could you make that barrier of yours resistant to my bankai?"
"Haha, nope."
"..."
"Oh, and remember that the living world full of fragile people lasts a lasts a _lot_ shorter then the Sereitei full of Shinigami would."
"Well, I guess Aizen picked his battleground well."
- I just wish there had been some fight left after Yhwach sealed his Bankai.
I remember watching the anime as it was airing, and being blown away with how dope yamamoto was without his sword.
Given that he was 1,000 years out of practice, he was very impressive. Makes you wonder how strong he was in his youth when he fought Yhwach.
I loved this part. The idea that while his flames are legendary, he's not spent the last thousand years neglecting every other aspect of combat he can access.
Yamamoto is right up there with Netero for me. Love the way their characters are handled. They left us wanting more and that is how it is done.
Great video fam, really nice. I like these
You should make videos like these for Toshiro. Also a Toshiro vs Rukia video was be dope. As well as Starrk vs Ulquiorra
We all know toshiro would ultimately win but I do think it would still be an interesting battle. Rukia just got Bankai so she was still very inexperienced.
@@gammafrost They make it pretty clear Rukia and Toshiros zanpaktous are different, Rukias is the pure cold while Toshiros is ice.
Kubo basically said you need to cheese this Dark Souls boss, go on Gamefaqs
I remember in an earlier video, you brought up an interesting observation that Aizen replicated Yamamoto's journey when looking for the OG Gotei when he was looking for the Espada, so Aizen had to have studied Yama a lot in the design of Wonderweiss, like seriously how did Aizen know that Wonderweiss would work against Ryujin Jakka? or what is just a natural product of the hogyoku and the "wish fulfillment" thing?
I dont think squad zero has any real chance against Yamamoto. Not even Ichibe
@@thebk247squad zero was so disappointing and they were such assholes when they came in too. I'm pretty sure from what we saw Kyoraku could kill all of them with his bankai.
Love your videos dude! Not sure if you are ever going to break into other Stuff but Id love a review on of course ONE PIECE like so many people. You just have that personality that I think would make it so good.

What a video of old man Yama, I clicked like.
Bro got "Yama" in his name, the king of hell or judgment of hell.
[REDACTED] Arc Yamamoto is going to be insane.
Yes, but we never got to see Yamamoto with two arms
How strong is Yamamoto?
Aizen: Strong enough for me to use plot armor Arrancar

Yamamoto vs Bankai Kempachi is a fight a would pay to watch
Yama blitzes
The 'punch to Aizen's head' part makes me kinda wish that *that* was how Aizen was revealed to have fused with the Hogyoku.
I cant wait to see Old mman Yama in Hell arc 😍 imagine his head being a burning skull ( like ghost rider ) while his body is wrapped in hell chanis 🤯
Yamato when he fought wonderweis " you think that you could defeat me just because you neutralized my zanpakto, how naive , there is a reason I've been the captain commander all these years !"
Yamamoto after losing his bankai " oh shit , what do I do now ?"
Cripes kubo 😔.
Kubo just really needed and wanted him gone then and there. I wished the anime had given him an extended fight, but alas
@@sugoidonia2420same here!!! I was so disappointed that he just gave up after that. He should have gone out fighting even with just his shikai.
Instead of stealing his bankai he should've been defeated while using it
On that, it was more along the lines of: "Oh shit, I have to do another round and he is fresh, and he took the one thing that could have even the odds."
I don't understand why he discards his zanpakuto after it gets extinguished. He can still use kendo to fight
Because his Hakuda was too badass to pass up to show.
@@royalreptile923 and we already saw a glimps of his kendo when he was teaching zaraki how to use a sword (yeah i know, the sentence itself is wild)
@@josue1996jc
My question when I recall the kendo scene with kenpachi and Nnoitra is can every captain do that and have the same results? Or is it just Kenpachi? And if Yama taught Kenpachi, he should be able to do that, right? If so, why wasn't he literally cutting a path thru everything until his zanpakuto had to be used??
He didn't need it
He starts throwing hands like a badass, honestly this was much cooler option than him keeping swinging with his sword so I don't question it.
I met Neil Kaplan today. He’s cool.
And we still didnt see the full power of him, since when we saw his bankai he only had 1 arm
My headcanon...I think all the scars on Yama were given to him by Unohana when he recruited her for the OG Gotei 13. I'm thinking she wanted to see if he had the power for such an undertaking.
He let her cut him to see if SHE was worthy. She did enough to pass, but nothing more, lol
@@Chronoflation He let her cut him all over his body and leave permanent scars? Ok.🤔👍
I could see him allowing her to cut him, just like he did with his lieutenant.
@@kylemma33 There's a difference between Yama letting a lieutenant level shinagami test his bankai's strength on him as opposed to Yama allowing someone who is physically stronger than himself and a better sword fighter hit him on purpose multiple times.

Yamamoto was truly a well done character i love and hate him at the same time....but its interesting to how even among some of the busted character in the series he still feels op...mighty
To sum up yama Fear the old man in a profession where men die young”
Considering how Yamamoto was able to beat an 80 percent Ywach, I can't imagine any pure soul reaper surpassing him in raw power and strength besides Kenpachi.
NO in fact Kenpachi is literally the only pure soul reaper that could equal or surpass the former head captain.
what does it mean that Zaraki in shikai killed Ikimonzi with 1 shot when Ichibei couldn't do it

One of the Coolest old men in anime
I really wish he didn’t die. Every time this man stepped into the battlefield I got ghoosebumps. 🗿
I view yamamoto the same way people look at whitebeard. Old dudes in shonen anime are not to be messed with.
That man has same voice VA as Shanks
I really like the moment when Yamamoto tricked Aizen by allowing himself to be stabbed. It shows that he is ready to use tricks or play dirty.
Yama may just be my favourite bleach character
Is this video currently unlisted?
Yep! But not for long...
Rare footage of a comment people won't call an example of RUclips being glitchy.
People were disappointed he lost and I'm like that man went crazy and showed nobody could stand up against him at all
Bro he lost every fight we saw him in
I wish, for once anime wasn’r so predictably centered around the protag.
I wanted Yama to straight incinerate all the invading sternritters, behead Yhwach and slowly slump back to squad 1 barracks Saying
“Hmph. nothing but mere brats.
Yama really used a forbidden technique and sacrificed his arm just to burn aizen’s clothes🤡

Out of all the shounen mangaka Kubo is one of the best at "show don't tell" if not the best when it comes to the overall story.

Zero division got tonnes of handouts from the Soul King.
Yamamoto is just a pure soul reaper. nothing was given to him.
If he hollowfied, went vasto Lorde, do you really think anything can stop him?
Old man yama: no Zanpakto? Alright, let's throw hands
It makes sense. Make a character whose so immensely powerful, focused and honest/straight forward so the only real.way to defeat him is trickery.
If I had a pound for every time Kubo threw out a weird little twink* to try to counter strong characters out of nowhere, I'd have £2, which isn't much, but it's fun that he did it twice.

He didn't even need to use his full bankai, but obviously plot wouldn't progress if he lived
Yama negs ichibei
Its nice to know Im not the only one who's obsessed with Bleach.. (Hi my names "Aaron" I am addicted to Bleach"
Excellent :)
His Bankai is a Nuke can’t just use it however he pleases like other captains…also I think yammy was just so HIM that he didn’t like fights ending quickly
Would love to know Yama’s backstory. If there are so many prodigies in Bleach, he had to be the ULTIMATE prodigy.
He is trash simple
Kubo made Yamaoto too Like That for the series.
*Wonderweiss seals Ryujinjakka*
*Yamamoto: I didn't hear no bell*
Kubo did once say that Yamamoto couldn't release his bankai in the fight against Aisen because it would have destroyed the pillars and karakora town completely negating the point of switching it out.
