Unpopular opinion but I think toshiro would be great head captain when he gets older. The potential is there as stated by shinsui and he has the strongest ice type zanpakuto like Yamamoto had the strongest fire type. Plus with his attitude I could totally see him being the serious grumpy captain
Realistically, Byakuya would probably be the next Head Captain should the mantle be up for grabs, but after him, yeah, it most likely would be Hitsugaya
If aging is slowed in soul society then toshiro would be the inverse of yama in the end op af and sucking the energy and causing entropy out of everything.
One interesting thing about his true bankai is that it freezes Gerard's bow, which is made out of reshi, so theoretically, Hitsugaya should be able to freeze cero's and kido too.
Interestingly in the filler ( so non canon but still ) when the zampaktos escaped hyonrinmaru could freeze kido and did say a child like hitsugaya could not master him .
@@jurgenzaka4957 Some of the zanpakuto spirits appear in the manga, but the ones in the filler arc are humanoid versions of them. E.g. Hyorinmaru is a dragon, while he was a muscular man in the Rebellion Arc.
He also froze momentum itself as seen when Gerard's shield froze midair and stopped in its path instead of falling to the ground. His ice literally negates physics making Hyorinmaru completely broken
I thought it was interesting that the adult form has the ice form more of armor around Toshiro making him look more like a knight where in the normal form it forms a dragon. Wonder if there is some symbolism there because the normal form of Daiguren Hyourinmaru is curled protectively around Toshiro and that the adult form is Torshiro standing on his own.
I believe it's because they have became 1, like the sword is me. I can't remember the movie but it what's a shikigami that fuse with his sword, and this more or less seems to have the same theme
@@ladyfaeryj5108 Sealed sword frenzy? That movie was always out of place since it presents fusing with your zanpaktou as a painful experience the Baisin wanted to die to free himself of whereas everywhere else in the series it's seen as the pinnacle of shinigami evolution.
I'd have to disagree mostly because, and this is probably an unpopular opinion, Toshiro is totally a Gary Stu, the ultimate Weeaboo self insert. To the point that I almost think Kibo did this on purpose. He looks like what most custom characters would look like if you could make your own character in a Bleach game. I don't dislike him, but he's kind of boring because of that. Especially because most of the other captains have such unique personalities, looks and abilities.
Always been a big fan of Hitsugaya He was a kid essentially compared to other characters but he was mostly level headed and was not condenscending despite being a prodigy. I was very happy with his adult form showing him being the true top tier character he can be And his Bankai is in my top 5 most beastly
I suppose in the future any enemies would have to bring a significant amount of firepower with two ice/cold based captains (possibly a third, I think Isane's is also snow/ice based).
@@crownedking_cj8890 I think that's only in anime tho because iirc from what I've seen in the manga he's pretty much calm and level-headed, at least if it's not concerning Matsumoto's laziness towards paperwork or his height lol (but I could be wrong, after all it's been years since I've read it)
Seemed like he knew all along what the countdown of the flowers meant. He and his vice captain are opposites. He is the young prodigy who doesn't want to grow up physically into adulthood, though he shows a maturity in his character that is anything but childlike. His vice captain is overly mature and acts like a child. He didn't end his bankai before the last flower crumbled because of losing it, but because he wasn't ready for what he would gain from it. He was wrestling with coming of age. This is the moral to Hits' bankai.
I'm not sure his bankai is complete in his "matured state". I feel like Kubo kinda sees Hitsugaya's bankai eventually becoming, well basically anyway, the ice version of Yamamoto's Zanka no Tachi. I feel like we've seen it near completion, but there is still going to be more to it
I mean, it's pretty clear Bankai can be expanded over time. Take for instance Byakuya's new techniques after the Soul Palace, it seems that multiple techniques can be added on over time, and that would also explain how Zanka no Tachi has 4 different stages. Since Hyorinmaru is always worded with the same terms as Ryujin Jakka, I think the implication is that it's gonna eventually be comparable in strength, so while hee seems to have a flash freeze skill and a freeze shield right now, maybe he'll get a big AOE ice field later on, making it threaten the entire Soul Society like Yama did.
I mean it was brought up way back when Ichigo was being told about Bankai how both Shikai and Bankai vary according to the users strength and skill(both appearance and power ) similar to how Zanka no Tachi went from massive gust of fire from the blade to erasing everything it touched and seemed to gain or increase the power of the whole east defence skill of being clad in flames of the sun since mr has yhwach memories of fighting it seemed surprised at the whole thing
To answer why he doesn't like that form, I think it's because it shows his lack of mastery of his own bankai or inexperience. It visually shows that at his current level, his body cannot handle or contain his bankai's true power. So he could be seeing it as a form of weakness on his part.
I think it's really cool seeing the parallels between Ryujin Jakka and Hyorinmaru. Both are stated to be their element's strongest zankpakuto, and both bankai render their user essentially impervious by surrounding their user in fire/ice to such an extent that enemies would damage themselves upon contact. In addition, Hyorinmaru was able to freeze the momentum of Gerard's shield; anything that is frozen by his ice also has its powers negated. Hyorinmaru is wildly broken, probably one of the most OP abilities in Bleach. If you scale it up, it would literally negate Yamamoto's Ryujin Jakka's abilities.

I think the entire time he always actually looked like he does when all the petals disappear. We have to remember his first introduction he was actually killing his "grandmother" by being near her because he couldn't control his power at all. I think a lot like Kenpachi he put a complete lock on his power, and we see him mention numerous times that he could easily kill even his own comrades around him if he isn't careful. All the times we see him fighting he is in incredibly close proximity to people who would not survive any of his attacks, and with how powerful he is when in "Adult" form he just flicks his sword and immediately freezes his target completely. No build up or anything, just flick and boom frozen completely. I think he is very aware of his grown up form from the beginning but keeps himself so constrained it effects his outward appearance. I think his ice petals are not a count down to him completing his Bankai, I think they are a count down to his power breaking free completely hence why he suddenly ages up to the outward age he should actually be at by this point in the story. And look at the point in the story he finally lets the petals run out: everyone around him is immensely more powerful than ever before. He can finally cut loose without worrying about his comrades for the first time. But those are just my thoughts.
Toshiro's mature bankai would only be in the beginning stages of him learning how to utilize it especially since he needs to be older to wield it. It's safe to assume that if Bleach continued into his adulthood, Toshiro would be OP because he would be in his natural state of growth. At some point, he would develop multiple phases like Yama or Shunsui had on theirs. I personally liked the mature version better
I think after what hitsugaya says about "I never said that's how my bankai worked" plus comments about having trouble controlling some of his bankai powers I don't think the petals were ever a timer, at least not exactly. I think the petals were acting as a limiter, his sword trying to hold back his full power so it doesn't overload his body (like what yachiru was doing for kenpatchi during his bankai) as he pulled on those powers more it became harder and harder for his sword to hold back, and the limiters decayed. Since his body wasn't yet able to withstand the full power they essentially served as a timer, but once he had worked up to it they gave him a kind of buffer period to work up to his full power rather than have it all thrown at him all at once.
I’ve always been a huge fan of Toshiro Hitsugaya. I love his character and personality and single mindedness. And I love His ice powers. Always been a huge Subzero fan and so Hitsugaya always made perfect sense to me as a warrior.
Back in high school me and my friends used to call him gotenks just cause he looks closest to a dbz character I’m glad he gets a lot of shine in the final arc
I always saw Hitsugaya as a perfect opposite to Yamamoto. Fire and ice, a natural calm person that experiences bits of anger, a naturally violent person that forces calm upon himself. And their Bankais seem to be equal if not Hitsugaya destined to surpass Yamamoto.
considering kubo has been planning this bankai ever since toshiros first appearance I think it works great. He absolutely needed an upgrade and it was done in a way that makes sense and shows toshiros hard work as a captain
I love everything around this mature bankai appearance. The fact that his clothes are the Sternritters and are ripped showing that his body has changed, the eyes, the angles. It's one of my favorite Kubo drawings and it appears very quickly.
I have always found it interesting how in the zanpaktou arc filler, his spirit mentions something about someone who is mature and dignified and worthy of admiration. Which is the vibe you get from this transformation
I literally just finished it, and I’m getting through the fake katakuira town now, true i loved that line it gave me chills thinking about them adapting it in the anime, and from the shot of him alone I’m hyped, but you can see he just wants to be this strong without going Bankai, he probably wants one more original since he could do the flash freezing, and stuff as a adult in shikai.
I really like that the Complete Daigurren Hyorinmaru was hinted all the way back in the Fake Karakura Town arc. While Hitsugaya was fighting Harribel, Stark ask Shunsui about Toshiro's power level, and Shunsui responds that he thinks that in about 100 years, Hitsugaya might be stronger than him. Ever since that conversation I waited for some sort of power up that would allow Hitsugaya to reach that hypothetical future power level.
I feel like the completed Daiguren Hyourinmaru is just a glimpse at what he’ll be capable of in the future. If we assume that his adult form is at least 100 years older than his current state, it’d be reasonable to assume that it would become his normal bankai once his body develops to the point he can actually handle it. Remember, immediately after they shattered Gerard, he is seen almost collapsing implying that forcefully aging his body puts alot of strain on him. When he no longer has to do that I think that would open up even more avenues to exploit his potential.
Meanwhile, behind some debris: Matsumoto: "I wonder how my Captain is doing against that giant we saw after leaving Mayuri's pods..." Hitsugaya: *transforms into an adult playboy* Matsumoto: *spits the cafe au lait she had found in a thermos nearby*
Hitsugaya takes too much pressure it's sweet how kuchki byakuya takes care of him he does not need to suffer but he rather did just to force his growth and he did this for others not just himself
I think Kubo made a lot of his mistakes in his writing of the series, particularly in the latter arcs. However, I think the completed Daiguren Hyourinmaru was NOT one of them in my opinion. As Mr. Tommo pointed out it works with the hints being laid out about his Bankai being incomplete because of just how young he is compared to his colleagues and the hints laid out in the Arrancar arc and later during his fight with Harribel. Additionally, the fact the petals work as a time limit until he can no longer hold his Bankai back really works with his personality. At the start of the series he is probably one of the most benevolent of the Captains with only Ukitake and Kyoraku being more noble. Despite being utterly pissed, when he was about to fight Gin, he warned Izuru to run and told him to get at least 10 miles away so he wouldn't get caught up in the blast radius. And during his fight with Harribel we saw his Bankai was capable of manipulating the weather of an entire city. This indicates that in terms of raw destructive power his Bankai is likely second only to Yamamoto. Given his more benevolent nature it makes sense that he would suppress it to avoid killing innocent bystanders and his comrades. The craziest thing about it is that if I read the manga right, he STILL has not fully mastered his completed Bankai. But even with what little we saw I have no trouble believing Kyoraku was right and that in 100 years Hitsugaya will surpass him and once you surpass Kyoraku you enter the levels of Unohana, Kenpachi, Yamamoto, and Aizen.
I took it as, prior to fully mastering his bankai, if the flower petals went out, he would transform into the mature form, but his body couldn't handle the power that comes with the fully matured bankai. And that is the true reason he had to continuously practice with his bankai to finally get to the point in the end where after transformation he could handle it.
When he said "You assume the flowers disappearing is my limit" or something along those lines, I thought back to all his fights and realized that he never actually stated that himself, and didn't feel like it was a fan service excuse dropped into the story or anything. His reluctancy to use the form change earlier might have just been that he knew it either would tire him quickly or because he'd cause to much collateral damage due to his inexperience with wielding his bankai in an appropriate form. He showed the same concern with other techniques in the past and not wanting to hurt allies.
I feel like Toshiro getting concerned everytime his bankai was about to run out meant that he was worried that he wasn't strong enough to control that power yet. I feel Rangiku knew the true nature behind his bankai as in the Arancar arc she was worried about the petals running out as well. We just assumed it meant his bankai ran out. Edit: Even while training after the Aizen arc He always talked about controlling his bankai, there's always been hints. I feel like he always meant he has to control the power of his adult form.
i believe so. Kubo mentioned in a Q&A about what will happen if hitsugaya hasn’t mastered his true bankai after the ice flowers fell, and he said “he will experience an imperfect growth disrupt and damage his own body during the transformation.”
I remember in his fights with Harribel he mentioned something like worrying he couldn't control his full powers (at that time his incomplete bankai full powers) if he used Hyoten Hakkaso but fortunately he didn't need to worry about that anymore since his bankai was weakened due to the destruction of his petals. So I guess that was one of the hints that his bankai is incomplete
Hitsugaya is my favorite captain so seeing him finally unleash his true self was an awesome sight. Can't wait till they get to get this part in the anime 👌
Personally; I like the dichotomy between Hitsu and Rukia. She controls cold which as a byproduct; creates ice while he creates ice which as a byproduct creates cold. Hitsu's mastery of cold absolutely pales in comparison to her mastery of cold while her mastery of ice pales in comparison to his and while they seemingly have similar results in bankai using totally different methods Rukia's bankai is absolutely broken once you understand what it actually does (stops molecules from moving, which is what Absolute Zero is).
I think her Bankai is even colder than absolute zero. Which I know makes zero sense scientifically, but think of it from a power scaling perspective. She could already utilize absolute zero temperatures in her shikai, albeit for a very short time. And As Nödt was able to overcome these temperatures in his base form. While, in bankai, Rukia creates a blast of frigid temperatures which flash freezes As Nödt in his Vollstandig form and instantly kills him. We can therefore infer that she reaches temperatures even lower than absolute zero because 1. The attack has an even shorter duration than her Shikai’s absolute zero, and 2. As Nödt was killed immediately whilst in a stronger form than the one capable of shrugging off absolute zero temperatures. Small nitpick on my part, but I feel it’s worth noting that her mastery over cold goes beyond what is even considered possible by real world physics.
@@sukumuieywang8058 Yeah I agree I mean both Rukia's mastery over cold and Toshiro's mastery of ice go way beyond what is physically possible in the real world. Rukia can go most likely way below absolute zero and Toshiro can use his ice to freeze energy (I am pretty sure that Gerad's bow that Toshiro froze was energy) so yeah no in terms of mastery over their perspective fields they are absolutely broken and will most likely surpass Yamamoto in power and as the "most powerful bankai" outside of Ichigo. These two would also make for an insane duo in battle as they would directly compliment each other. As of TYBW I think the strongest captains are Byakuya~Shisui~Toshiro then Kenny follwed by everyone else. In CFYOW I am pretty sure we are given a different order or we have at least Toshiro Byakuya and Kenny in the same ball park but IDK just cuz I have not read that part of the novels.
@@ricremricrem2221 I believe Toshiro specifically states when using Shikai Hyoketsu that by the time he takes 4 steps, all matter in front of him freezes. So I guess that Reishi constructs are considered matter, but energy is also a form of matter too. I’m not sure I agree with the statement that they’re likely to surpass Yamamoto given that his Bankai was ungodly strong, and Toshiro couldn’t even use his abilities while nowhere near it. But then again he does have over a millennium more experience. So I guess it’s not entirely out of the realm of possibility, but it certainly wouldn’t happen for hundreds of years.
I think it's more accurate to say that Toshiro controls moisture itself. All moisture in the air is under his control, as he stated in his fight against Halibel.
@@sukumuieywang8058 You're right; for Rukia to flash freeze in bankai; she'd have to reach temperatures lower than absolute zero. Absolute zero isn't instant so imo it makes sense that As Nodt could break out of it before he freezes solid and why Byakuya could touch Rukia without instantly freezing as she was deactivating her bankai. It's a pretty broken ability and her pool of spiritual energy is her only limiting factor. I hope we get to see her let loose in the new hell arc.
Toshiro was never my favourite captain, but when he suddenly matured, I got goosebumps listening to 'Treachery' while reading. I only wish he stayed that way in the final chapters too
I just want to say if he's just becoming a adult to use his powers doesn't that mean he still has more to show like Yamamoto being the strongest type saying there are more stages and let's not forget half his power is cut because his sword was 2 originally unless he absorbed that power.
I like Hitsugaya's completed Bankai more now than I did when the chapter was first released. I wasn't a huge fan of it at first, but I grew to like it more over time. Also, I think Hitsugaya would be old enough to handle his completed Bankai 100 years after the end of Bleach. That makes sense to me, given Kyorakuo's comment about Hitsugaya possibly being able to surpass him in 100 years.

Thinking about it from a maturity/power level. I think it would make sense that the wings are the power overflowing from him so when he is aged and can handle the full power of his bankai the wings aren’t needed.
That new Bankai was the most hyped thing I ever seen him do. It went perfectly well with his new outfit too. I wonder if that's the new form it'll always take each time he uses it, also how will it look with soul ripper outfit.
Toshiro is one of the most developed characters in Bleach who aren't Ichigo (ha even got a movie). It's weird that you would initially think this was fan service when he CONSTANTLY is shown using his bankai and trying to get better at it/using new moves almost every fight he is in. glad you came around though
This right here, its an argument alot of people will say when they say that his powers and showings are asspulls when outside of Ichigo himself, Toshiro is legitimately the only character we see actively training his powers throughout the course of the series. After his fight with Shawlong its implied that Soul society trained in preparation to deal with arrancars, so they were better prepared for Luppi and Yammy, after that scuffle they trained in preparation for the FKT battle, immediately after this fight you see him training in a cave to perfect his powers, Renji confirms that for the past 17 months they trained in order to combat Aizen, and you see his growth vs Yukio. And then after the first Quincy invasion he again trains his abilities to make up for the loss of bankai, and then i’m positive that post war arc he and everyone else resumed training. From the panel in the manga 20 years before the start of the series we get confirmation that he’s begun his training, and as soon as he achieves bankai he immediately moves up from third seat to captain, meaning that at the start of the series, Gin, Momo and the other liutenants arent familiar with him because he was literally just promoted, and from then on he does nothing but improve his abilities going forward. Definitely on the upper end of fleshed out characters for sure.
True while some might see him regularly using bankai as him being insecure, I think it is actually the opposite. He doesn't use bankai to prove himself as evidenced by how he humbles himself to improve when he loses it. I think he knew that his bankai was incomplete so other than regular training he used those battles to train himself. Growth is faster when you have someone to compete with afterall. The other captains more or less have some mastery over bankai but toshiro does not so there is no reason he shouldn't regularly use it to improve just because others might see it as a sign of his insecurity. I really doubt he actually cares about what others think.
The purpose of his petals actually stayed the same throughout the entire story. They didn't function as a timer so much as they functioned similarly to the dragon crest on Ikkaku's Bankai - a gauge to be filled. Once "filled", Hitsugaya's true Bankai would be released at it's considerably higher power level. Earlier in the series, Hitsugaya was concerned with this occurring because he was unable to control his Bankai at it's higher power level. He wasn't mature enough or experienced enough to wield it's full power. Whether this would have been displayed as his Bankai releasing or more serious repercussions, we'll of course never know, but no matter the result it would have been disastrous for it to do so in the middle of battle. Therefore, it was only natural to stick to the reliability of the diminished version. This interpretation also solves a common issue/complaint that could sometimes be thrown at Kubo - the inconsistency of speed at which Hitsugaya's petals would crumble. Since most people often interpreted the petals as a timer, naturally some people felt it was a case of plot armor that his petals sometimes disintegrated at different rates. However, if it's a gauge based on energy accumulated or something similar, it's natural that rate of disintegration would be inconsistent and even controllable to at least some degree. At the end of the series, Hitsugaya had trained enough and was experienced enough to control his Bankai at the higher level. However, his "vessel", his body, was physically too small to contain the higher power level. So, his Bankai modifies his vessel to a suitable size. His "gauge" is still performing the same function, however, the accumulated energy is utilized to modify his body and Bankai to their higher energy levels. The only danger he likely faces at this point is accumulating energy too quickly (due to his training level and experience) for his young body to adjust to fast enough, which wasn't an issue when he was less experienced. So, rather than be hamstrung by a Bankai he can no longer control after a certain point, he's hamstrung by being forced to fight at lower level than he is capable until it's ready.
Don’t know if you’ll see this but I just wanted to say thanks for all the bleach content. Bleach was the show that got me into anime and then as I grew up and got more involved with discussion boards I kind of thought I had to hate bleach to be taken seriously. But when the anime got announced for a return I got so hyped and looked for bleach content everywhere and I found this channel and have watched it ever since. Hitsugagya was involved in a fight when he was protecting one of the free souls outside of soul society, he hit his head during the battle and lost his memory, a family tended to him and gave him the name Gintoki, he kept his skill, but lost his Bankai
I'm a newer sub. I followed Bleach for years and years. I love it. But the Blood War is the main story I haven't experienced at all. Save for this channel I haven't been exposed to Adult Hitsugiya all. So this is crazy interesting to me.
Toshiro has always been one of my top 5 favorite characters and when he got his adult form my hype for him went up exponentially Sure he may not be the strongest character or whatever the case but he's dope regardless
I find toshiro saying he doesn't really like this form is reminiscent of Minato saying he's not very good at sage mode, despite being a perfect sage and toshiro looking badass, I think it's said as a way to say "this is why I've never used it before until now" to avoid any plot holes
And then you have Asriel, in Undertale, just loving his godly form, similar to Aizen, since they feel similar always think that after getting into Bleach.
@@haziq3595 Yes. Minato is only a Perfect Sage in the sense that he can balance the natural energy with his Chakra perfectly. Beyond that, the time it takes to gather said natural energy (at least several minutes, if Madara's whole monolog is any indication) and the time he can maintain the state (a few seconds, if that) are so long and short respectively that it's nigh-useless in combat, which leads to his lack of actual combat experience in that state.
He has THE strongest ice type zanpaku-to like grandpa yama(fire type). He is the youngest captain and even got acknowledge by shunsui that he will surpassed him in 100 year or less. Like kenpachi, Hitsugaya is not on his full form yet he will become a monster like old man Yama in the future. WIth Hitsugaya personality, i can see him as a grumpy old man Commander of the whole 13 squad. Imagine Adult hitsugaya as the commander with the current Kenpachi is Zaraki with fully mastered of his own bankai? Aizen/ywach combine would get wrecked !! Well, unless Aizen devise a plan to seal both of their bankai like he did with old man yama(i can see that happen).

I think he doesn't like the form cause it makes him taller. He wants to be taller not made taller because of his bankai. He wants to be naturally taller.
Since the reveal I always assumed his bankai was a kin too ikakuu's. "Lazy... Takes a while to wake up". I just thought his flowers were the same as ikakuu's dragon, a timer. In fact if you look back that makes a lot of sense in certain perspective, Kubo "foreshadowed" it even if he didn't know how he was going to end his story. Just a thought

I think the reason why he wouldnt like his older form is because its a huge difference from how he naturally is. Hes older and his physical stature is totally different. I imagine it feels rather unnatural or out of place because he dosnt spend much time like that.
Imagining that Hyorinmaru is probably the strongest Ice type Zanpakuto like Ryujin Jakka is the strongest Fire type, plus the young age meaning naturally he'll be like one of the longest lasting Shinigami - so just like imagine what if eons down the line an adult/even middle age looking Hitsugaya becoming the next Captain Commander after Shunsui just having this fully mastered and just uber OP most powerful ice type Zanpakuto having Captain Commander Hitsugaya.
Adult Hitsugaya is so crush-worthy. If someone was a prodigy, could wield that much power and look that attractive, the only real deal breaker would be his attitude (how he treats his friends and family and colleagues). Unpopular opinion but I think toshiro would be great head captain when he gets older. The potential is there as stated by shinsui and he has the strongest ice type zanpakuto like Yamamoto had the strongest fire type. Plus with his attitude I could totally see him being the serious grumpy captain
Realistically, Byakuya would probably be the next Head Captain should the mantle be up for grabs, but after him, yeah, it most likely would be Hitsugaya

One interesting thing about his true bankai is that it freezes Gerard's bow, which is made out of reshi, so theoretically, Hitsugaya should be able to freeze cero's and kido too.
Interestingly in the filler ( so non canon but still ) when the zampaktos escaped hyonrinmaru could freeze kido and did say a child like hitsugaya could not master him .

@@jurgenzaka4957 Some of the zanpakuto spirits appear in the manga, but the ones in the filler arc are humanoid versions of them. E.g. Hyorinmaru is a dragon, while he was a muscular man in the Rebellion Arc.
He also froze momentum itself as seen when Gerard's shield froze midair and stopped in its path instead of falling to the ground. His ice literally negates physics making Hyorinmaru completely broken

I thought it was interesting that the adult form has the ice form more of armor around Toshiro making him look more like a knight where in the normal form it forms a dragon. Wonder if there is some symbolism there because the normal form of Daiguren Hyourinmaru is curled protectively around Toshiro and that the adult form is Torshiro standing on his own.
I believe it's because they have became 1, like the sword is me. I can't remember the movie but it what's a shikigami that fuse with his sword, and this more or less seems to have the same theme

I'd have to disagree mostly because, and this is probably an unpopular opinion, Toshiro is totally a Gary Stu, the ultimate Weeaboo self insert. To the point that I almost think Kibo did this on purpose. He looks like what most custom characters would look like if you could make your own character in a Bleach game. I don't dislike him, but he's kind of boring because of that. Especially because most of the other captains have such unique personalities, looks and abilities.
Always been a big fan of Hitsugaya
He was a kid essentially compared to other characters but he was mostly level headed and was not condenscending despite being a prodigy. I was very happy with his adult form showing him being the true top tier character he can be

Seemed like he knew all along what the countdown of the flowers meant. He and his vice captain are opposites. He is the young prodigy who doesn't want to grow up physically into adulthood, though he shows a maturity in his character that is anything but childlike. His vice captain is overly mature and acts like a child.
He didn't end his bankai before the last flower crumbled because of losing it, but because he wasn't ready for what he would gain from it. He was wrestling with coming of age. This is the moral to Hits' bankai.
I'm not sure his bankai is complete in his "matured state". I feel like Kubo kinda sees Hitsugaya's bankai eventually becoming, well basically anyway, the ice version of Yamamoto's Zanka no Tachi. I feel like we've seen it near completion, but there is still going to be more to it

I mean, it's pretty clear Bankai can be expanded over time. Take for instance Byakuya's new techniques after the Soul Palace, it seems that multiple techniques can be added on over time, and that would also explain how Zanka no Tachi has 4 different stages. Since Hyorinmaru is always worded with the same terms as Ryujin Jakka, I think the implication is that it's gonna eventually be comparable in strength, so while hee seems to have a flash freeze skill and a freeze shield right now, maybe he'll get a big AOE ice field later on, making it threaten the entire Soul Society like Yama did.
I mean it was brought up way back when Ichigo was being told about Bankai how both Shikai and Bankai vary according to the users strength and skill(both appearance and power )
similar to how Zanka no Tachi went from massive gust of fire from the blade to erasing everything it touched and seemed to gain or increase the power of the whole east defence skill of being clad in flames of the sun since mr has yhwach memories of fighting it seemed surprised at the whole thing
To answer why he doesn't like that form, I think it's because it shows his lack of mastery of his own bankai or inexperience. It visually shows that at his current level, his body cannot handle or contain his bankai's true power. So he could be seeing it as a form of weakness on his part.

I think it's really cool seeing the parallels between Ryujin Jakka and Hyorinmaru. Both are stated to be their element's strongest zankpakuto, and both bankai render their user essentially impervious by surrounding their user in fire/ice to such an extent that enemies would damage themselves upon contact. In addition, Hyorinmaru was able to freeze the momentum of Gerard's shield; anything that is frozen by his ice also has its powers negated. Hyorinmaru is wildly broken, probably one of the most OP abilities in Bleach. If you scale it up, it would literally negate Yamamoto's Ryujin Jakka's abilities.

I think the entire time he always actually looked like he does when all the petals disappear. We have to remember his first introduction he was actually killing his "grandmother" by being near her because he couldn't control his power at all. I think a lot like Kenpachi he put a complete lock on his power, and we see him mention numerous times that he could easily kill even his own comrades around him if he isn't careful. All the times we see him fighting he is in incredibly close proximity to people who would not survive any of his attacks, and with how powerful he is when in "Adult" form he just flicks his sword and immediately freezes his target completely. No build up or anything, just flick and boom frozen completely.
I think he is very aware of his grown up form from the beginning but keeps himself so constrained it effects his outward appearance. I think his ice petals are not a count down to him completing his Bankai, I think they are a count down to his power breaking free completely hence why he suddenly ages up to the outward age he should actually be at by this point in the story. And look at the point in the story he finally lets the petals run out: everyone around him is immensely more powerful than ever before. He can finally cut loose without worrying about his comrades for the first time.
But those are just my thoughts.

Toshiro's mature bankai would only be in the beginning stages of him learning how to utilize it especially since he needs to be older to wield it. It's safe to assume that if Bleach continued into his adulthood, Toshiro would be OP because he would be in his natural state of growth. At some point, he would develop multiple phases like Yama or Shunsui had on theirs. I personally liked the mature version better

I think after what hitsugaya says about "I never said that's how my bankai worked" plus comments about having trouble controlling some of his bankai powers I don't think the petals were ever a timer, at least not exactly. I think the petals were acting as a limiter, his sword trying to hold back his full power so it doesn't overload his body (like what yachiru was doing for kenpatchi during his bankai) as he pulled on those powers more it became harder and harder for his sword to hold back, and the limiters decayed. Since his body wasn't yet able to withstand the full power they essentially served as a timer, but once he had worked up to it they gave him a kind of buffer period to work up to his full power rather than have it all thrown at him all at once.
I’ve always been a huge fan of Toshiro Hitsugaya. I love his character and personality and single mindedness. And I love His ice powers. Always been a huge Subzero fan and so Hitsugaya always made perfect sense to me as a warrior.
Back in high school me and my friends used to call him gotenks just cause he looks closest to a dbz character I’m glad he gets a lot of shine in the final arc
I always saw Hitsugaya as a perfect opposite to Yamamoto. Fire and ice, a natural calm person that experiences bits of anger, a naturally violent person that forces calm upon himself. And their Bankais seem to be equal if not Hitsugaya destined to surpass Yamamoto.

I love everything around this mature bankai appearance. The fact that his clothes are the Sternritters and are ripped showing that his body has changed, the eyes, the angles. It's one of my favorite Kubo drawings and it appears very quickly.

I have always found it interesting how in the zanpaktou arc filler, his spirit mentions something about someone who is mature and dignified and worthy of admiration. Which is the vibe you get from this transformation
I literally just finished it, and I’m getting through the fake katakuira town now, true i loved that line it gave me chills thinking about them adapting it in the anime, and from the shot of him alone I’m hyped, but you can see he just wants to be this strong without going Bankai, he probably wants one more original since he could do the flash freezing, and stuff as a adult in shikai.
I really like that the Complete Daigurren Hyorinmaru was hinted all the way back in the Fake Karakura Town arc. While Hitsugaya was fighting Harribel, Stark ask Shunsui about Toshiro's power level, and Shunsui responds that he thinks that in about 100 years, Hitsugaya might be stronger than him. Ever since that conversation I waited for some sort of power up that would allow Hitsugaya to reach that hypothetical future power level.

I feel like the completed Daiguren Hyourinmaru is just a glimpse at what he’ll be capable of in the future. If we assume that his adult form is at least 100 years older than his current state, it’d be reasonable to assume that it would become his normal bankai once his body develops to the point he can actually handle it. Remember, immediately after they shattered Gerard, he is seen almost collapsing implying that forcefully aging his body puts alot of strain on him. When he no longer has to do that I think that would open up even more avenues to exploit his potential.
Analysis aside, Kubo really knows what the fan girls want. So many toshiro forms, you already know the merch is gonna sell like crazy.

I think Kubo made a lot of his mistakes in his writing of the series, particularly in the latter arcs. However, I think the completed Daiguren Hyourinmaru was NOT one of them in my opinion. As Mr. Tommo pointed out it works with the hints being laid out about his Bankai being incomplete because of just how young he is compared to his colleagues and the hints laid out in the Arrancar arc and later during his fight with Harribel.
Additionally, the fact the petals work as a time limit until he can no longer hold his Bankai back really works with his personality. At the start of the series he is probably one of the most benevolent of the Captains with only Ukitake and Kyoraku being more noble. Despite being utterly pissed, when he was about to fight Gin, he warned Izuru to run and told him to get at least 10 miles away so he wouldn't get caught up in the blast radius. And during his fight with Harribel we saw his Bankai was capable of manipulating the weather of an entire city. This indicates that in terms of raw destructive power his Bankai is likely second only to Yamamoto. Given his more benevolent nature it makes sense that he would suppress it to avoid killing innocent bystanders and his comrades.
The craziest thing about it is that if I read the manga right, he STILL has not fully mastered his completed Bankai. But even with what little we saw I have no trouble believing Kyoraku was right and that in 100 years Hitsugaya will surpass him and once you surpass Kyoraku you enter the levels of Unohana, Kenpachi, Yamamoto, and Aizen.
We know he did, the anime will fix things.

I took it as, prior to fully mastering his bankai, if the flower petals went out, he would transform into the mature form, but his body couldn't handle the power that comes with the fully matured bankai. And that is the true reason he had to continuously practice with his bankai to finally get to the point in the end where after transformation he could handle it.
When he said "You assume the flowers disappearing is my limit" or something along those lines, I thought back to all his fights and realized that he never actually stated that himself, and didn't feel like it was a fan service excuse dropped into the story or anything. His reluctancy to use the form change earlier might have just been that he knew it either would tire him quickly or because he'd cause to much collateral damage due to his inexperience with wielding his bankai in an appropriate form. He showed the same concern with other techniques in the past and not wanting to hurt allies.
By Shunsui own words Toshiro will be the strongest later.

I feel like Toshiro getting concerned everytime his bankai was about to run out meant that he was worried that he wasn't strong enough to control that power yet.
I feel Rangiku knew the true nature behind his bankai as in the Arancar arc she was worried about the petals running out as well.
We just assumed it meant his bankai ran out.
Edit: Even while training after the Aizen arc He always talked about controlling his bankai, there's always been hints. I feel like he always meant he has to control the power of his adult form.

I remember in his fights with Harribel he mentioned something like worrying he couldn't control his full powers (at that time his incomplete bankai full powers) if he used Hyoten Hakkaso but fortunately he didn't need to worry about that anymore since his bankai was weakened due to the destruction of his petals. So I guess that was one of the hints that his bankai is incomplete
Hitsugaya is my favorite captain so seeing him finally unleash his true self was an awesome sight. Can't wait till they get to get this part in the anime 👌

Personally; I like the dichotomy between Hitsu and Rukia. She controls cold which as a byproduct; creates ice while he creates ice which as a byproduct creates cold. Hitsu's mastery of cold absolutely pales in comparison to her mastery of cold while her mastery of ice pales in comparison to his and while they seemingly have similar results in bankai using totally different methods Rukia's bankai is absolutely broken once you understand what it actually does (stops molecules from moving, which is what Absolute Zero is).
I think her Bankai is even colder than absolute zero. Which I know makes zero sense scientifically, but think of it from a power scaling perspective. She could already utilize absolute zero temperatures in her shikai, albeit for a very short time. And As Nödt was able to overcome these temperatures in his base form. While, in bankai, Rukia creates a blast of frigid temperatures which flash freezes As Nödt in his Vollstandig form and instantly kills him. We can therefore infer that she reaches temperatures even lower than absolute zero because 1. The attack has an even shorter duration than her Shikai’s absolute zero, and 2. As Nödt was killed immediately whilst in a stronger form than the one capable of shrugging off absolute zero temperatures. Small nitpick on my part, but I feel it’s worth noting that her mastery over cold goes beyond what is even considered possible by real world physics.

Rukia can go most likely way below absolute zero and Toshiro can use his ice to freeze energy (I am pretty sure that Gerad's bow that Toshiro froze was energy) so yeah no in terms of mastery over their perspective fields they are absolutely broken and will most likely surpass Yamamoto in power and as the "most powerful bankai" outside of Ichigo. These two would also make for an insane duo in battle as they would directly compliment each other. As of TYBW I think the strongest captains are Byakuya~Shisui~Toshiro then Kenny follwed by everyone else. In CFYOW I am pretty sure we are given a different order or we have at least Toshiro Byakuya and Kenny in the same ball park but IDK just cuz I have not read that part of the novels.
@@ricremricrem2221 I believe Toshiro specifically states when using Shikai Hyoketsu that by the time he takes 4 steps, all matter in front of him freezes. So I guess that Reishi constructs are considered matter, but energy is also a form of matter too. I’m not sure I agree with the statement that they’re likely to surpass Yamamoto given that his Bankai was ungodly strong, and Toshiro couldn’t even use his abilities while nowhere near it. But then again he does have over a millennium more experience. So I guess it’s not entirely out of the realm of possibility, but it certainly wouldn’t happen for hundreds of years.
I think it's more accurate to say that Toshiro controls moisture itself. All moisture in the air is under his control, as he stated in his fight against Halibel.

Absolute zero isn't instant so imo it makes sense that As Nodt could break out of it before he freezes solid and why Byakuya could touch Rukia without instantly freezing as she was deactivating her bankai. It's a pretty broken ability and her pool of spiritual energy is her only limiting factor. I hope we get to see her let loose in the new hell arc.

I like Hitsugaya's completed Bankai more now than I did when the chapter was first released. I wasn't a huge fan of it at first, but I grew to like it more over time. Also, I think Hitsugaya would be old enough to handle his completed Bankai 100 years after the end of Bleach. That makes sense to me, given Kyorakuo's comment about Hitsugaya possibly being able to surpass him in 100 years.
I even noticed as a teenager Kubo spent the most time on Toshiros bankai, everyone elses bankai even Ichigos felt second hand compared to Toshiro

Thinking about it from a maturity/power level. I think it would make sense that the wings are the power overflowing from him so when he is aged and can handle the full power of his bankai the wings aren’t needed.

Toshiro is one of the most developed characters in Bleach who aren't Ichigo (ha even got a movie). It's weird that you would initially think this was fan service when he CONSTANTLY is shown using his bankai and trying to get better at it/using new moves almost every fight he is in. glad you came around though
This right here, its an argument alot of people will say when they say that his powers and showings are asspulls when outside of Ichigo himself, Toshiro is legitimately the only character we see actively training his powers throughout the course of the series. After his fight with Shawlong its implied that Soul society trained in preparation to deal with arrancars, so they were better prepared for Luppi and Yammy, after that scuffle they trained in preparation for the FKT battle, immediately after this fight you see him training in a cave to perfect his powers, Renji confirms that for the past 17 months they trained in order to combat Aizen, and you see his growth vs Yukio. And then after the first Quincy invasion he again trains his abilities to make up for the loss of bankai, and then i’m positive that post war arc he and everyone else resumed training.
From the panel in the manga 20 years before the start of the series we get confirmation that he’s begun his training, and as soon as he achieves bankai he immediately moves up from third seat to captain, meaning that at the start of the series, Gin, Momo and the other liutenants arent familiar with him because he was literally just promoted, and from then on he does nothing but improve his abilities going forward. Definitely on the upper end of fleshed out characters for sure.
True while some might see him regularly using bankai as him being insecure, I think it is actually the opposite. He doesn't use bankai to prove himself as evidenced by how he humbles himself to improve when he loses it. I think he knew that his bankai was incomplete so other than regular training he used those battles to train himself. Growth is faster when you have someone to compete with afterall.
The other captains more or less have some mastery over bankai but toshiro does not so there is no reason he shouldn't regularly use it to improve just because others might see it as a sign of his insecurity. I really doubt he actually cares about what others think.
The purpose of his petals actually stayed the same throughout the entire story. They didn't function as a timer so much as they functioned similarly to the dragon crest on Ikkaku's Bankai - a gauge to be filled.
Once "filled", Hitsugaya's true Bankai would be released at it's considerably higher power level. Earlier in the series, Hitsugaya was concerned with this occurring because he was unable to control his Bankai at it's higher power level. He wasn't mature enough or experienced enough to wield it's full power. Whether this would have been displayed as his Bankai releasing or more serious repercussions, we'll of course never know, but no matter the result it would have been disastrous for it to do so in the middle of battle. Therefore, it was only natural to stick to the reliability of the diminished version.
This interpretation also solves a common issue/complaint that could sometimes be thrown at Kubo - the inconsistency of speed at which Hitsugaya's petals would crumble. Since most people often interpreted the petals as a timer, naturally some people felt it was a case of plot armor that his petals sometimes disintegrated at different rates. However, if it's a gauge based on energy accumulated or something similar, it's natural that rate of disintegration would be inconsistent and even controllable to at least some degree.
At the end of the series, Hitsugaya had trained enough and was experienced enough to control his Bankai at the higher level. However, his "vessel", his body, was physically too small to contain the higher power level. So, his Bankai modifies his vessel to a suitable size. His "gauge" is still performing the same function, however, the accumulated energy is utilized to modify his body and Bankai to their higher energy levels. The only danger he likely faces at this point is accumulating energy too quickly (due to his training level and experience) for his young body to adjust to fast enough, which wasn't an issue when he was less experienced. So, rather than be hamstrung by a Bankai he can no longer control after a certain point, he's hamstrung by being forced to fight at lower level than he is capable until it's ready.

Bleach was the show that got me into anime and then as I grew up and got more involved with discussion boards I kind of thought I had to hate bleach to be taken seriously. But when the anime got announced for a return I got so hyped and looked for bleach content everywhere and I found this channel and have watched it ever since. Hitsugagya was involved in a fight when he was protecting one of the free souls outside of soul society, he hit his head during the battle and lost his memory, a family tended to him and gave him the name Gintoki, he kept his skill, but lost his Bankai
What’s even crazier is that he also has a hollow form stacked on top of all this that he doesn’t even access.
I'm a newer sub. I followed Bleach for years and years. I love it. But the Blood War is the main story I haven't experienced at all. Save for this channel I haven't been exposed to Adult Hitsugiya all. So this is crazy interesting to me.
Toshiro has always been one of my top 5 favorite characters and when he got his adult form my hype for him went up exponentially

I find toshiro saying he doesn't really like this form is reminiscent of Minato saying he's not very good at sage mode, despite being a perfect sage and toshiro looking badass, I think it's said as a way to say "this is why I've never used it before until now" to avoid any plot holes
It always reminded me of the Minato line too lol.
The fact that Toshiro doesn't like the older form of his Bankai shows in his Bankai (if that makes sense?)
And then you have Asriel, in Undertale, just loving his godly form, similar to Aizen, since they feel similar always think that after getting into Bleach.

@@haziq3595 Yes. Minato is only a Perfect Sage in the sense that he can balance the natural energy with his Chakra perfectly. Beyond that, the time it takes to gather said natural energy (at least several minutes, if Madara's whole monolog is any indication) and the time he can maintain the state (a few seconds, if that) are so long and short respectively that it's nigh-useless in combat, which leads to his lack of actual combat experience in that state.
He has THE strongest ice type zanpaku-to like grandpa yama(fire type). He is the youngest captain and even got acknowledge by shunsui that he will surpassed him in 100 year or less.
Like kenpachi, Hitsugaya is not on his full form yet he will become a monster like old man Yama in the future. WIth Hitsugaya personality, i can see him as a grumpy old man Commander of the whole 13 squad.
Imagine Adult hitsugaya as the commander with the current Kenpachi is Zaraki with fully mastered of his own bankai?
Aizen/ywach combine would get wrecked !! Well, unless Aizen devise a plan to seal both of their bankai like he did with old man yama(i can see that happen).
I personally really liked the design of his original Bankai. The whole dragon aesthetic was always really cool
Hyorinmaru and zabimaru are the best parts of the zanpakto rebellion arc imo

I think he doesn't like the form cause it makes him taller. He wants to be taller not made taller because of his bankai. He wants to be naturally taller.
Since the reveal I always assumed his bankai was a kin too ikakuu's. "Lazy... Takes a while to wake up".
I just thought his flowers were the same as ikakuu's dragon, a timer. In fact if you look back that makes a lot of sense in certain perspective, Kubo "foreshadowed" it even if he didn't know how he was going to end his story.

Ikkaku's Dragon isn't a timer, as you can see him waking it up most of the way just by whipping it around, while before it was taking a longer time.

I think the reason why he wouldnt like his older form is because its a huge difference from how he naturally is. Hes older and his physical stature is totally different. I imagine it feels rather unnatural or out of place because he dosnt spend much time like that.

Imagining that Hyorinmaru is probably the strongest Ice type Zanpakuto like Ryujin Jakka is the strongest Fire type, plus the young age meaning naturally he'll be like one of the longest lasting Shinigami - so just like imagine what if eons down the line an adult/even middle age looking Hitsugaya becoming the next Captain Commander after Shunsui just having this fully mastered and just uber OP most powerful ice type Zanpakuto having Captain Commander Hitsugaya.

Adult Hitsugaya is so crush-worthy. If someone was a prodigy, could wield that much power and look that attractive, the only real deal breaker would be his attitude (how he treats his friends and family and colleagues). So I don't really know why Toshiro doesn't like his adult form, then again maybe it's a sign of the personal growth he is still going through?
Headcanon: It's because his face is exactly at the level of Rangiku's chest when he's in his young form.

I relate for example for one to achieve ssj 4, he has has to be at his physical limit like Goku got older as he was a kid and Vegeta got younger as he was older....makes sense, hyorinmaru to be used at it's fullest Hitsugaya got older to compensate for the increase in power...🤓
