My daughter is 12 and dogsits for the neighbors regularly. Both my kids have been gentle and loving to animals since they were preschoolers. At 12 they consciously understand their actions and how injury occurs. And a golden isn’t a small fragile dog. The amount of force needed to break its spine indicates her actions were intentional.
I seriously doubt that she just sat on the dog like a pony. My massive cousin accidentally landed on their puppy and he was fine. I feel like she probably got something really heavy and smashed the dogs spine repeatedly.

For real. So my brother bred mice to feed to reptiles which sounds crazy (and he is, honestly. lol) but he would also come knocking on my door to give me any super friendly, special needs, or adorable mice because he "felt bad" feeding them off, but knew my rodent sanctuary will take them (we are very different people). 😂 He can have anger issues and be grumpy, but like he would never hurt any animal for fun and at moments shown a soft side for something he thought was just "reptile food." If he did hurt an animal, though, I would also he an only child. lol.

So appreciative of her saying this! It is so difficult to cut ties with a parent. And so many people are ready to tell the adult child that the responsibility of mending the damaged relationship falls on them. No one can grow in poisoned soil, and no one should ever be expected to accept toxic or abusive behaviour from anyone - especially from a parent

Story 4: I know the U.S doesn’t has the best healthcare systems but.. I’d call CPS or report the child to some metal health department to try to get her evaluated and then get a restraining order. The animals is horrid I wonder what is like at school- that sounds like it should be alarming everyone. OP has every right to cut off everyone, including the father!
Ugh this was similar to my thoughts as well. I worry SO strongly for that child's well-being. She needs so much help, and she needs it yesterday, and this level of neglect from her mother of her mental health is downright abusive. I live in the USA, our healthcare system DOES suck, and therapy is often not accessible at all. But I see parents who still try everything they know and have available still, even if it isn't counseling. You can try to find a mentor that they look up to, get them into support groups or clubs that are free, ask the school for help ideally before the animal killing behavior starts (remember they are mandatory reporters), ask a religious leader or community leader or family member who is widely respected to step in and help, idk what else but doing NOTHING is going to doom this poor child to a life of anti-social behaviors, poor connections with others, criminality, house struggles, struggles maintaining occupations or hobbies, etc. I hope OP can get to safety ASAP.... Oh my gosh. And I really hope the mom or dad (or maybe even brother since it sounds like he's in agreement?) can see how bad things have truly gotten and that she needs immediate intervention before the rest of her entire life -and the lives/safety of every human and animal around her- is potentially fully f***ed.

My momma passed away 12 years ago with dementia. Her eldest son’s wife did the same thing. And I watched my mother stand in our window, watching him go up and down the road, never bothering to stop. She cried so many times to me, asking why he had abandoned her. This story pisses me off so much. Brother and Kara can get wrecked. 😢
I mean, my grandmother got it and passed away in early 2021, and because she lived in another country and covid happened, I couldn't see her when she was starting to get really bad. I know it's not my fault, but the guilt eats at me anyway. So yeah. That man and his wife can get fucked, because she was RIGHT THERE. He had the chance to say goodbye to his mother, to be there for her, and he didn't do it.

For the sixth story, OP definitely needs to send the screenshots of the messages this guy sent his daughter, his own texts with the guy, the guy's behavior toward his daughter, both in front and away from the eyes of other people, etc. to the ex wife and girlfriend. Even if he isn't a threat to his own children, those kids have friends and I really worry for them if they're girls. He should definitely be nowhere near them.

Story 4: reporting to the police is a necessity at this point. For Arlo, for you and for your new pup, but also for the rest of animals and people who will inevitably cross paths with that ""kid"". Don't feel bad, your sister needs help and your family doesn't care so you reporting to the police is the only way she will get that help. Story #6 said that he's known his kids for over a decade and watched her grow up. My first thought was if he's creepy now, maybe he was a creep towards her back then, too. I have two daughters -- 18 and 21. I also have two best friends, around my age (I'm a 49-year-old guy who has a great relationship with both my daughters) If either of my daughters came to me with issues with either of my best friends, I'd be spending my 50th birthday in prison while whichever of those best friends that harmed my kid would be spending that time in a coma.
Story 6: on reacting with violence. I was a volunteer advocate for a few years and we highly discourage reacting with violence to support ppl. It can make the survivor feel even more unsafe. Her dad's attitude and calm support was probably what allowed her to come forward and share a fuller truth. If he got angry then her fears about upsetting him would have felt true even if he wasn't mad at her. It also makes you look bad to the cops. They're already degrading this guy's behavior. Which is disgusting and ridiculous.
For story 4: I own 6 golden retrievers. They all play SO ROUGH and NOTHING comes even close to BEING ABLE TO BREAK THEIR BACK?? They run over each other and still absolutely no injuries. This child is INSANE and needs mental help. This is so scary and upsetting, I feel so awful for that golden.

Story 6: I have a stalker. He started stalking me as a stranger, this has been ongoing for nearly a decade to the point of him stealing my pet. Getting a restraining order has been impossible. The most that police have done is to verbally tell him to leave me alone. It is rough out there, ladies.

Story 6: the police saying they can’t really do anything because she got in the car with him is akin to saying “she asked for it”. Report that officer. Accepting a lift a home is not consent. What a disgusting attitude that only serves and protects predators.

The story about the sister that abused/killer the animals. It doesn’t matter the size of the animal or anything, there is correlation to those children killing people as adults. In my state if you kill an animal as a child (purposely) there are protocols in place to get them help and intervene because it will escalate if untreated.

Story 6: he is a Predator! I had an uncle that was in his 50 and I was 12 I was a shy kid so wouldn’t talk much and I would keep a lot to myself. My whole family knew this! He knew and touched me in weird places when I was asleep, I woke up and he just grinned at me this happened twice. I luckly lived in another country an only saw him in summer or else he would clearly go further… I told my friends when I was 15 and my sister I told them to keep it secret. One day my mother watched a Turkish drama where a girl was SA my mom told us to tell us if something like this ever happens to us, and that she would always be at our side. I finally told my sister to tell my mom got a bottle of wisky and left my home at 2 in the morning.
Story 3: People can be that vindictive and sometimes for no reason at all. There's this story of this grandma who wanted to celebrate her 80th birthday big over a weekend. Everybody was on board. And then OP's brother and SIL announce that their wedding is going to be in that same weekend, so grandma's birthday party gets cancelled, but the family coming over for grandma's birthday, don't have to cancel their tickets because of the wedding. OP then comes up with the idea to sing for grandma at 0.00 u and let her cut a cake, but SIL is not having any of that. In one of the updates it becomes apparent, that SIL did intentionally plan the wedding in grandma's birthdayweekend.

I do think this is one hell of a difficult position to be in for op, the story missed some key parts for me, besides every birthday could be the last, you never know. in the end she did handle it well in comparison to the disappointment she must have felt, her behaviour on the wedding day was annoying though and they should have just broken up when they got to this issue knowing they couldn't move past it

Im in UK and it cost about 8 to 10 THOUSAND pounds to have the funeral my Nanny asked for, disgusting how expensive it is and the grieving family has to deal with it, awful.
I don't have animals at home, but whenever my child meets an animal, I've always taught her to be gentle and careful. She's five now and she knows not to chase animals or frighten them. She's gentle with her pats and always give animals space. Unless there's something really wrong with the child, these things can be taught despite the young age.
My mom tried to fake dementia and even said she had 6yrs to live..... She was LYING! and guess what 8yrs later she's totally fine and runs her own bakery.

Morgan, a word of advice about wedding planning-it is okay to not enjoy it. People often talk about how fun it is and almost imply that something is wrong with you if you aren’t enjoying it. Most of wedding planning is stressful (guest lists, invitations, coordinating vendors, etc). It’s okay to not like those parts. Enjoy the parts that are fun (buying your dress, picking colors, food tastings, etc.) and get through the parts that aren’t.
The story about the mom with dementia, I would honestly argue that the brother NEGLECTED the mother. Like maybe he didn’t have a full blown obligation to take care of her but for him to not notice something was wrong or at least take his mother’s concerns seriously long enough to try seeing what might be wrong with his mother and take her to a doctor, and likely living in the same town as his mother the entire time, it’s just neglectful and idk what else to call it
FYI: all of the betta fish sold at pet stores are males. The males fight in competition for the females. They don't normally sell female bettas because they don't have those long bright fins. Like a lot of birds, the male Bettas are colorful, and the females are just these little mostly brown fish with a tiny bit of color. Usually you only get a female better if you're some sort of breeder

There is a man in the woods" where women shared their stories about receiving video or photographs from people they didn't know and didn't keep in contact about their abuser/r4pist/attacker getting jumped basically. The story with the dad’s friend and daughter literally made me fucking sob I was so mad. The fact that she kept that to herself because that was her dad’s only friend speaks volumes about her character and how she was raised. Story 4 is so tragic! I foster and find homes for dogs and cats, and this is a huge fear of mine. You never truly know the people. I have asked the humane society if they have a "list" of people who are not good with animals and they do not! I don't understand.

My family refuses to talk about it. When I found out I stopped interacting with him. U fortunately, he is still invited around the family and I do end up bumping into him on occasion. Whenever I speak about the situation, I say he's a pedophile. My family gets really mad at me for saying that, but he is. He engaged in inappropriate relations with a minor, the definition of a pedo. We don’t do embalming and cremation (which is part of why the funerals take place very soon after death), we just have a pine box in the ground with family helping to fill in the grave as part of the funeral service. The sister harming and killing multiple animals regardless if it was by accident or intentional is a statistic fact and pattern connected with serial killers. This is a hugeeee concern. I agree informing the school is a really good idea. As an ex family case manager with child protective services this is a huge concern and intervention needs to be a priority for the safety of the child, family and others.
Former funeral director here. I had to take a break after six years between covid burnout and bc charging for death gives me the ick. This stuff is SO common with death. My daughter is 12 and dogsits for the neighbors regularly. Both my kids have been gentle and loving to animals since they were preschoolers. At 12 they consciously understand their actions and how injury occurs. And a golden isn’t a small fragile dog. The amount of force needed to break its spine indicates her actions were intentional.
I seriously doubt that she just sat on the dog like a pony. My massive cousin accidentally landed on their puppy and he was fine. I feel like she probably got something really heavy and smashed the dogs spine repeatedly.

So my brother bred mice to feed to reptiles which sounds crazy (and he is, honestly. lol) but he would also come knocking on my door to give me any super friendly, special needs, or adorable mice because he "felt bad" feeding them off, but knew my rodent sanctuary will take them (we are very different people). 😂 He can have anger issues and be grumpy, but like he would never hurt any animal for fun and at moments shown a soft side for something he thought was just "reptile food."

Ugh this was similar to my thoughts as well. I worry SO strongly for that child's well-being. She needs so much help, and she needs it yesterday, and this level of neglect from her mother of her mental health is downright abusive. I live in the USA, our healthcare system DOES suck, and therapy is often not accessible at all. But I see parents who still try everything they know and have available still, even if it isn't counseling. You can try to find a mentor that they look up to, get them into support groups or clubs that are free, ask the school for help ideally before the animal killing behavior starts (remember they are mandatory reporters), ask a religious leader or community leader or family member who is widely respected to step in and help, idk what else but doing NOTHING is going to doom this poor child to a life of anti-social behaviors, poor connections with others, criminality, house struggles, struggles maintaining occupations or hobbies, etc.
I hope OP can get to safety ASAP.... Oh my gosh.
And I really hope the mom or dad (or maybe even brother since it sounds like he's in agreement?) can see how bad things have truly gotten and that she needs immediate intervention before the rest of her entire life -and the lives/safety of every human and animal around her- is potentially fully f***ed.

For the sixth story, OP definitely needs to send the screenshots of the messages this guy sent his daughter, his own texts with the guy, the guy's behavior toward his daughter, both in front and away from the eyes of other people, etc. to the ex wife and girlfriend. Story 6: on reacting with violence. I was a volunteer advocate for a few years and we highly discourage reacting with violence to support ppl. It can make the survivor feel even more unsafe. Her dad's attitude and calm support was probably what allowed her to come forward and share a fuller truth. If he got angry then her fears about upsetting him would have felt true even if he wasn't mad at her. It also makes you look bad to the cops. They're already degrading this guy's behavior. Which is disgusting and ridiculous.

The story about the sister that abused/killer the animals. It doesn’t matter the size of the animal or anything, there is correlation to those children killing people as adults. In my state if you kill an animal as a child (purposely) there are protocols in place to get them help and intervene because it will escalate if untreated.

Story 6: he is a Predator! I had an uncle that was in his 50 and I was 12 I was a shy kid so wouldn’t talk much and I would keep a lot to myself. My whole family knew this! He knew and touched me in weird places when I was asleep, I woke up and he just grinned at me this happened twice. I luckly lived in another country an only saw him in summer or else he would clearly go further…

One day my mother watched a Turkish drama where a girl was SA my mom told us to tell us if something like this ever happens to us, and that she would always be at our side. I finally told my sister to tell my mom got a bottle of wisky and left my home at 2 in the morning.
Story 3: People can be that vindictive and sometimes for no reason at all. There's this story of this grandma who wanted to celebrate her 80th birthday big over a weekend. Everybody was on board. And then OP's brother and SIL announce that their wedding is going to be in that same weekend, so grandma's birthday party gets cancelled, but the family coming over for grandma's birthday, don't have to cancel their tickets because of the wedding. OP then comes up with the idea to sing for grandma at 0.00 u and let her cut a cake, but SIL is not having any of that. In one of the updates it becomes apparent, that SIL did intentionally plan the wedding in grandma's birthdayweekend.
i honestly was getting this vibe as well before the comment about how sister did not know it was her birthday weekend (which is odd to me if they have been together for 2 years, especially since it sounds like the siblings aren't close if this planning has been happening for MONTHS and sis didn't even know) and gf was not even invited to the wedding? what?

I do think this is one hell of a difficult position to be in for op, the story missed some key parts for me, besides every birthday could be the last, you never know. in the end she did handle it well in comparison to the disappointment she must have felt, her behaviour on the wedding day was annoying though and they should have just broken up when they got to this issue knowing they couldn't move past it

I don't have animals at home, but whenever my child meets an animal, I've always taught her to be gentle and careful. She's five now and she knows not to chase animals or frighten them. She's gentle with her pats and always give animals space. Unless there's something really wrong with the child, these things can be taught despite the young age.
My mom tried to fake dementia and even said she had 6yrs to live..... She was LYING! and guess what 8yrs later she's totally fine and runs her own bakery.

Morgan, a word of advice about wedding planning-it is okay to not enjoy it. People often talk about how fun it is and almost imply that something is wrong with you if you aren’t enjoying it. Most of wedding planning is stressful (guest lists, invitations, coordinating vendors, etc). It’s okay to not like those parts. Enjoy the parts that are fun (buying your dress, picking colors, food tastings, etc.) and get through the parts that aren’t.

The story about the mom with dementia, I would honestly argue that the brother NEGLECTED the mother. Like maybe he didn’t have a full blown obligation to take care of her but for him to not notice something was wrong or at least take his mother’s concerns seriously long enough to try seeing what might be wrong with his mother and take her to a doctor, and likely living in the same town as his mother the entire time, it’s just neglectful and idk what else to call it
FYI: all of the betta fish sold at pet stores are males. The males fight in competition for the females. They don't normally sell female bettas because they don't have those long bright fins. Like a lot of birds, the male Bettas are colorful, and the females are just these little mostly brown fish with a tiny bit of color. Usually you only get a female better if you're some sort of breeder

In the same relm of the last story before the palette cleanser. My uncle was a cop and had an inappropriate relationship with a 17 year old cadet and was fired over it. My family refuses to talk about it. When I found out I stopped interacting with him. U fortunately, he is still invited around the family and I do end up bumping into him on occasion. Whenever I speak about the situation, I say he's a pedophile. My family gets really mad at me for saying that, but he is. He engaged in inappropriate relations with a minor, the definition of a pedo. It doesn't mean that he would ever touch his own kids, bit it doesnt change the fact. I'm so glad that the daughter spoke up eventually and that the dad immediately took his daughters side.

We don’t do embalming and cremation (which is part of why the funerals take place very soon after death), we just have a pine box in the ground with family helping to fill in the grave as part of the funeral service.
