When I first found your channel I loved your personality and how you aren't so strict. you have some humour. the name was familiar and i just realized my 2 manga books are your's. so this is cool to see you're a real person and you aren't all stuck up like you'd expect from a pro artist.
Ok wow I said that before seeing the full video. yup its definitely you
Same with the book thing. I bought his Mastering Manga book in 2013 and later that year found his channel but only the next year had I found he was the same person.
These videos are wonderful. A balm for the artistic soul.
Thank you Brittany :)
I havent watch u for a long time,I've known ur channel since I was in 3rd grade..Now I'm in 5th and you are still inspiring me to do more art!Thank you so much mark you've inspired many people including me.Keep up the work!
The 'lines' are called filaments. 'hooks' and 'barbs' connect the filaments of pennaitious feathers
If you would draw that in red and orange tints it could be a phoenix feather :)
Thank you for existing and having a RUclips channel you have helped my drawing so much
Hey Mark!! I just want to say your art is amazing and you are an inspiration to us all!! Before I saw your videos I had just about given up on drawing, but you inspired me to keep trying and helped me to improve. Thank you!!
Hey Mark, I've been watching your videos since 2009 or something like that and I've probably watched every topic video and every q&a video you made at least twice. I love being able to work on my college art projects while listening to you talk about art related topics - it's just nice to have something to think about while drawing. And you are really the only youtuber I've found who never stresses me out or leaves me with negative feelings. All that to say: Thanks for what you're doing.
Official scientific term for the individual parts of a feather are "little wispy hairy thingies" . Just got your realism challenge book and I love it. Been a while since u posted a realism video. Hope to see one soon. Love ya Mark
How are there even people who dislike this awesomeness
You're always gonna have haters, no matter what you do, no matter who you are. Its sad though
Great tuition video. Even beginners could follow along with this and produce something decent.
Incredible capture❣️🤩 thank you so much for sharing your colors of a peacock feather & your intricate details. 🥰💖
mccrilley you're one of the greatinspirations when it comes to making Arts i adore how you manage to encourage your viewers . . . i create again drawing, painting ... Thank you so much :) for posting your Marvellous basic principles in drawing, perspective, light, darkness and colours... . . .and the keen eye for the precise details in lines, proportion and also for the creative flow ... Love and blessings to you and your family and all friends and followers ❤❤❤😍😎😚😘😄😃😀😊
Hello how're you doing hope you're safe due to the covid 19 pandemic?
I love your color pencil art work.
I hope I can be good enough to do tutorials and videos like you do Mark Crilley! :) You're my inspirations to my videos.
I have always struggled using colour. I feel like I don't understand it enough to know how to use it (like where you used the yellow under the green to change the effect). I guess it's all practise but I hate the idea of spoiling a picture by colouring it badly while I'm learning :P
Two things that can help with this is one, remember that you're first sketch is just a sketch. It might look nice but it may never feel fully finished (Unless you did some major shading with it) so just go for it! Two, try going to your printer and attempt to make a copy of your drawing then color either the original or copied version, so you'll always have an old version you can keep just in case you don't like the finished result. What helped me get into colored pencil at first was me just telling myself that I was gonna make a drawing that WILL be colored. I won't think about it, I already decided it before I started drawing, so if it fails, it fails. Also, make sure you have the right colors you want before you start, because if you go into a drawing and start coloring, but don't have the right colors, it'll be a lot harder and probably will make it look less good. Hope this helps :)
That is some really excellent advice! The copy idea is really good - and it makes so much sense what you say about starting with the intention of doing a coloured drawing; I had never thought about it like that, but you are totally right! Thank you :)
kzzinsky I'm really glad it helped! :D Another tip I can give is that you should make a color palette of all your different colored pencil colors on a separate piece of paper. Put a little square or circle of each color, and the name next to it so you know it. What this lets you do is when your looking for a certain shade, you can just look at this palette and once you find the color, you find the name then look through your collection. It also helps you know exactly how each color looks on paper without having to rely on the barrel (Since sometimes it's inaccurate, especially with different colored papers). Just something I though I'd share
omg. me too! i bought some nice coloring books, have prismacolor pencils and started watching all these coloring videos...and now i'm afraid to start coloring the pictures in these really nice books because I don't want to ruin it!
Kat T They're coloring books! They're meant to be colored! Colored pictures almost always look better than just black and white ones, especially in those coloring books. C'mon, a coloring a book is made to color in, not to cherish each page like you made it. All you're doing is filling in the white space in those books, so do it. It'd be a waste of money otherwise
This is fantastic looking! I've worked with graphite for a long time and wish to move on to colored pencil. It's all kinda new to me and your videos are very helpful.
I just got new coloring pencils! They are soo much more comfortable than the ones I used before. I'm so happy!!
Btw great vid and awesome drawing.
Just bought mastering manga at Michaels and I honestly didn't think it would help too much but it's actually great
Thank you Damian!
I hope you include this image in your next book. Being able to see you demonstrate and hear you describe your colored penciling technique makes more sense than "Switching to colored pencils, begin gradually building up a secondary layer of color" (Leaf, step 3). Another thing that would be helpful is to know how long it actually takes you to draw each image (like that it took, what, 8 hours to draw your eyes). Oh, and it is great to see that you are right-handed!
Got all your how to draw books there all fun and easy to understand
Thank you!
I love your videos. They're really good and helpful. Thanks
fuck off
Thanks
Love your name 😂😂
lolololol fuck of?
Dat username!
I needed this today, Sir. Thank you for reading my mind 🖐😊🖑
Hello how're you doing hope you're safe due to the covid 19 pandemic?
I think it would be great if you drew another eye, but this time you draw an infected eye that's all red.
I love the eye videos, myself; as I also enjoy drawing eyes.
BEAUTIFUL
Hello how're you doing hope you're safe due to the covid 19 pandemic?
Thank you for your tips.. Watched ur video twice and took notes. Such a real video. Brings into perspective alot of things that I have never thought of. Thank you again.
Some how you manage to make me laugh so much and do an amazing drawing at the same time😂 props to you my friend props to you!
hey mark i have just started watching your videos and im glad i did because they r helping so much even on the small things so thank you.
Haha why is it that whenever you stroke a couple of lines, you keep changing the position of the pencil? You probably don't notice it whenver you're drawing, but why do you think that helps?
Wonderful drawing
I just got mastering manga 3!!!!!!
Thank you :)
Thank you mark
I'll will try this sometime
You are my favorite drawing teacher *^*~
Hey Mark, have you ever done a video on how to "observe" or maybe how to visualize?
When you are putting pencil/pen to paper, the step that has already taken place is the idea or the observation. You have by that point already an idea of what your drawing will look like and the video becomes about the execution of the drawing.
Just an idea. Thanks.
Very good tutorial:
I don't think you would have been able to do those fine Peacock lines with any other medium.
Just want to say one thing... It's AWESOME!!
Very beautiful!! Thank you for showing how to do this!
Your videos are an amazing amount of help to me. I found your channel a couple of years ago and I actually drew a wolf you did a tutorial on and loved it! I also love to use colored pencils and wondered if you knew how one could get like a pack of nothing but black pencils? I run out all the time
Hey Mark just thought I let you knew that I got both your realism challenge book and the drawing lesson and I love them both!
Thank you Austin!!
Just bought your mastering manga book today that I found at my local art store !!! I also have your realism challenge book!! I love them so much!!
Thank you Makenna ^_^
markcrilley ;)
great video!! do u think u can do one on watercolors again? offering how to manipulate multiple different colors?
Your mastering manga books are AMAZING
Do you happen to know the gravity falls journal 3 book ? :) I'd like to know what you think of it and it's style of drawing
I have the three manga books and wow thank you so much you make everything so easy!
Could u use metallic coloured pencils to create the iridescence of the feather?
Hello how're you doing hope you're safe due to the covid 19 pandemic?
I bought mastering manga 3 yesterday! >.<
Now I have the complete collection
Thank you so much! :)
I admire your art I look up to you 😁
I loovee listening to your videos while i draw. I always learn something new or refresh a skill :)
how gorgeous with only colored pencils!
Thank you for yet another well explained tutorial. But can you do a tutorial on a step by step drawing of a realistic parrot or bird please?
The 'glowing' colours on peacock feathers are called 'Iridescent colours', which are created structural colouration. They're bright because they're not pigments, but micro-structures that reflect only certain wavelengths of light.
Brilliant video thanks. I don't know why, but your voice keeps reminding me of Carl Sagan.
Hey Mark! I have a question. Have you ever drawn a shark? I have an art project that has to have a shark in it, but I have NO idea how to do it. It is due Wednesday, and so I wondered if you have or not.
hey I'm not mark but I am also a young artist. Believe it or not, if you are able to draw basic things, you are definitely able to draw a shark. look up shark pictures on Google and practice sketching them
Wonderful drawing I like this
Hi ! Sir Please write on top which colour are you using because the colour is not clear is it yellow or brown
Mark, we need more of the "Brooklyn guy" XD
Could you please show us your gold playbotten?
It would be great if you can do a video on how to draw the peacock feather. Please
Hello how're you doing hope you're safe due to the covid 19 pandemic?
Another wonderful drawing:)
wow!!!great artwork😉😉😄😄😃😃😀😀😆
that's an amazing drawing
Awesome as all ways. I was wandering if you could do a video on how to copyright your work to prevent your oc's from being stolen or your manga idea . Thanks for your videos
Como ficou lindo o desenho. Parabéns! !!!!
but...but Mr. Crilley I like longer videos. your freaking funny. really brightens my day!
I also happened to have a question. what publishers are best for beginning Manga artists if they wanted to publish something like an action/romance kinda thing? also what should they send to the publisher the final copy I know, but should they send in a sketched version as well?
hey mark! great video. just wanted to let you know I wrote subtitles to your forshortening tutorial and I'll be working on this video. For some reason they don't show up tho so if you could take a look, that would be great!
He has to go into his settings onhis video and make them open for others to add subtitles.
but he doesn't read my messages 😂
Gave you a like, best I can do to help you out.
thanks!!
Michael de Leeuw I'm sure that if he'd seen it, he would have replied.
Very nice drawing 👍👌 but just a few things I wanted to say I think instead of putting purple over the sky blue color I think you should have put a blue green color. And in the middle of the feather I think then you should have made it black and purple.
In the beginning of the video you talk about making speedy strokes to avoid your from wrist trembling. I've got terrible trembling whilst i'm inking but the accuracy loss usually messes up my inking. Do you have any tips to prevent 'trembling wrist' whilst inking and still maintain accuracy?
Is it normal to never be satisfied with your art? I can draw ok but I always think it isn't good enough.
You are your biggest critic. It's a normal thing to not like your art because most of the time you are comparing it to someone else's. Try not to be so harsh on yourself and have fun.
its very common but id consider it a bad thing. push yourself but be happy with your current abilitied
It's the artist's curse. We feel like there is a way of getting something right and we fear the outcome. But I find it more enlightening to learn "fuck it" because funnily enough when worrying way too much about your lines you make them worse. Try to loosen up. And another problem I myself try to fight is thinking there is any right way to draw something. Because funnily enough, professionals actually intentionally shift a few details or proportions, and they look better than what's correct. So just Learn to loosen up and realise you are your own worse critic. A way of getting past that fear of being shit other than saying fuck it, is comparing your newer works to older ones and seeing why they work and don't work. It will not only make you better next time you draw but it will also make you more condor table with what you make because it gives you that sense of change and improvement you need
same thts y when ppl asm me to draw for them I dont bc I dont rlly think its good enough
Keep an open mind
can you please show how to give skin tone with colour pencil
how. does. he. DO IT! HE'S MY FAVORITE EVER!!!!
i love it...
I just found you! I'm so excited as I haven't drawn in years. Maybe the color your searching for is turquoise?? 😁
Oh my goodness..you did make it blue! I always thought it was a bit turquoise...☺️
I love your drawing👍👍👌👌😘😍🤗🤗
Class thank you mark!
Yep can you do a step to step of drawing the feather
nice and helpfull video for using colored pencils mark :D
I figure you get a lot of suggestions, and I have to be honest that I haven't watched the full video because of time, but I do kind of wander how you would color a transparent affect. almost like your looking through stained glass, or a guys clothes got wet. in photoshop it's a lot easier because you have filters and tools to do that for you, but I am not sure how you do it exactly with markers or pencils.
Interesting and helpful tutorial. Thank you. I had never heard of Mitsubishi pencils before! Cars yes... pencils, no!
Could you do a video on how to color Elsa from Frozen? You kinda sped through that in the how-to-draw one.
Mark, what's the name of the color you used first? I don't know if it's MY monitor...or me... but you said brown and the pencil looks brown but the barbs end up looking a bit greenish yellow to me. I'm just not seeing much "brown"! :-/
Wow. nice video.thanks so much
What shade of brown exactly did you start with? I have gone through all my browns and not a one comes close to the color you started with. About the only thing that comes close to what i am seeing on my screen is kindce a olive green.
Also when you get the time show how to draw some of your animals in more aggressive looks like lion, wolf and etc? The inside of their mouths with teeth showing are the one thing i find tricky
You're so fun Crilley!
Would you rather be a cat with a goldfish tail or a goldfish with cat ears?
Ty for this xD I just bought some prisma colors and dont know how to use them x.x
I scrolled through your vids and i couldn't find it, can you please draw a snake in realism? I'm curious on how scales work and if you can mouth open snake....their mouths are the most interesting to me on how to draw
Wow
Whenever I color something, there are always small white spaces between the lines, is there a specific coloring technique, or does the color pencils’ quality matter?
I notice you use Prismacolor often, but how do you feel about Faber-Castell Polychromos?
heya mark, I was wondering, what camera set up do you use to have such great focus and overhead view? for the life of me I can't imagine how you do it
can I request a video...i love your manga how to draw visa so i was wondering if u can do a vid on ways manga hair can flow aspecially for details bc i can draw manga hair but I'm always drawing one stile of hair...i wish to know how to draw it like it was flowing in wind or just different cool and pretty stiles in general...
Here's my video on that topic: ruclips.net/video/H4j2U861bi4/видео.html
Amazing video again ♥
I really love the colors of a peacock feather, your Mitsubishi brown looks more like a green, 😊, I hope you don't mind if I make a couple of comments or questions as I watch you color your feather? BTW great start ,😍
beautiful x
coolll thank for sharing drawing videos
Hey Mark what is a good type of blending color pencils 😞
Hello how're you doing hope you're safe due to the covid 19 pandemic?
