- paving a very steep driveway .This can't be used by a car its so steep.The client wanted to tidy up what was already there which was a concrete drive .We pave it using grey indian sandstone. Hope you like what we created.

Hi Justin, yeah you get that mate with Indian stone don’t you, not too bad with the hand cut edge but not as easy to lose with the sawn edge stuff.
We lay a few metres, stand back & tweak to get it as best as possible, usually joints can vary from 6-10mm
Even with the best will in the world you’ll have to cut some, we usually do that after it’s laid & cured, before you point obviously 🤪.

Had the exact same issue with the dark grey/black limestone - nightmare having to the cut the smallest slab of the lot each time! Lovely job meeting the awkward slope at the top there, have to do something similar myself soon. Good job boys, diolch yn fawr

Shouldn't be happening dan its ridiculous really been going on some time very frustrating and costs us money. Yea had to bend the hell out of them which isn't easy on a random pattern. Good luck with yours mate.

Proper pain about having to cut those smaller slabs! On site I've seen lads just open up their perps to get over it..but you end up with a bit of a mess really..however if the manufacturer just cut them correctly it would save hassle for everyone! That mix is like concrete 👌them slabs are never moving 👌 Brilliant work mate! Definitely not the easiest job at all! Looks fantastic! Look forward to see the clay paving job bud! Hope you and the lads are feeling well🍻🍻💪

Nice tidy job again lads, had the same issue with Indian sandstone, nightmare to try and keep a consistent bond, a whole lot more cutting,
I complained to our supplier and got a 10% discount our next order which only worked out £100 or so, considering having 3 men taking an extra day than we would normally have done it in, these things happen every now and again, but thank god they are pretty rare…
As for the weather, it’s absolutely Baltic here in Ireland 🇮🇪 also, considering we had a pretty decent year with regards to weather it’s just about bearable 👍

Mad that everyone is having the same issue with indian sandstone its not on costing us a fortune to rectify. The suppliers need to sort it out to be honest. Weather cold here aswell but shortest day on 21st December so all getting lighter after that roll on a .

Well done on the awkward sod! The twist looks as if they did not dig enough out of the side where the steps meet the pavement> Bugger working in the rain,I would sooner come back lol

Think they tried originally to take the gradient out of it a bit by twisting the levels.We had to follow what was there.Just making good what was there and sometimes as you no thats harder.Do you miss working or you glad to retire?

Loving your work mate , and yep we have to cut a few of the sandstone slabs they never seem to work out mate , you always seem to loose bond , we could never work out how come even when you buy it from reputable merchants its all the same , again mate leaving up to the contractor to put it right or the customer will be on our case , all cutting that takes time and is a unknown as regards costing that comes out our price mate 🥵🥵🤪🤪👍 glad to see the lads really coming on mate , your teaching them well 👍 we❤️🙏👍 just finishing off our last drive and outside job for the winter , it’s beyond us now with the cold and 💦💦 mate , stay safe mate keep warm and plenty of paracetamol , love the new music ,all the best 🙏👍

Should take the product back really as its not what we purchased its not fit for use.when you have a job with lots of cuts and then have to cut more for free its not on is it mate. Pain in the arse time is money they should either make the product a lot cheaper or just do em right first off.The dewalt is brilliant but after using it now for a while the batteries dont last that long and we have to go back to the sthil saw bit frustrating clive

What a horrible job to do definitely hard to get job satisfaction on these types of jobs. But you and the boys have done a great job yet again.
Indian sandstone is awful at the moment with the sizing. Had the lurgy myself last week real struggle in this weather. Hope you’re all feeling better 💪

The having to cut the 300mill squares has happened to me multiple times i cant count but doesn't happen all the time for some reason couldnt write it 🍻🏴
The manufacturer should be more accountable costs us time and money while they get fully payed for an inferior product. There we go thats my take on it Robert 🤣👍🧱🧱🏴🏴
Had this same problem with the last patio I did, we noticed what we call "small rectangles" the 600x300 had a chalk line down the middle of them to be 2 x 300x300 with no allowance for the extra joint 🤦♂️ made the job a pain tbh ended up having half of day trimming the joints up before we could joint it all up

Its an unexpected and un necessary addition to our already hard days work .Indian Sandstone is no longer cheap and to install a professional project for our clients. Buying branded Indian stone should come ready to lay no cutting but its been happening now for years and its not good enough is it Martin.

Great work Justin tidy aco drains them your son has done well. Ah feel ya on slabs nightmare. Even some porcelain tiles can be as much 2mm either way nightmare if laying in stack bond sometimes just do without the spacers. Sandstone can be miles out tho. Save on slurry mate on the hard concrete and just wet it then roll some sbr on save a wee bit On slurry 🤟

Yea both lads doing really well. Sandstone been out of calibration since day 1 hasn't it .You'd think they'd have it sorted by now its ridiculous. Sbr would of been fine just didn't have any on the van mate .Take care mate. My disc cutter / Angle grinder has gone bang we had a makita 240v about £50 you recommend a replacement mate ?👍

Am great buddy. Btw ebay or Amazon for sbr £12-£16 tops merchants can be a lot higher. Grinder for you go 54 volt dewalt 5inch grinder the amount punishment a have give cutting by tiles etc still forges on. £220. Fire your flex volt batteries into it. Not a fan of anything corded. Cordless or gas the way. Rubi 125mm viper blade for it Amazon. £32 bucks blade is super for porcelain buddy or sandstone

Yeah sandstone the calibration is mostly the focus on the continus thickness of the slab they normally work between 5-8mm the 1,s that have been calibrated with have the lines etched on the backs of them. For the dimensions they are just wild at times aren’t they. Was building anstone and 215mm x 300mm 9,s we call them they were bloody 220mm height a good amount manufactures just don’t care think a lot of there cutting tools don’t get renewed quick causing big variation in sizes.

Grinder and cordless 54volt paddle Yeap Christmas money will be away. 12ah batts do make a difference waiting to buy the 15ah monsters. Paddle can easily mix 12 bags self level on a9ah batteries or 3 barrow loads of cement. Proper power buddy saves all the cables great for Flowpoint your slurry and if needing just a barrow of cement or so 25l plasters bucket very effective. Do have a 50l give you a good barrow load cordless paddle handles it effortless props quicker than mixer these to clean.

Great vid ! Your certainly not afraid of taking on jobs with cuts !😂 then the daft small pavers to do on top ! I’ve always just expected it and sometimes I don’t even use them and I’ll lay them in 1/4 to half bond ! The normal random pattern can be a pain and I actually get ‘pavers block ‘sometimes 😂 and choosing which one to lay is frustrating ha ! Oh I bought a dewalt saw same as yours and it’s definitely a handy tool and love not having to be pulling pull cords etc but you can’t just have that as a pavers ay !! It’s handy yes but you still need a Stihl saw as the dewalt isn’t really that powerful for loads of cutting at a time , that said a wouldn’t do without it now ! How you liking yours ?! Yea agree mate with all .we actually use a laying pattern but Bradstone s pattern hand a cross joint in it can you believe that so had to bin it and use a marshalls one. The dewalt after using it now for a while a good addition but the batteries just dont last long so i need more which isnt cheap also the charger and batteries are being hit about they needed a case not for the actual dewalt but for the charger etc bit .other than that its defo a good saw to have but wont replace a sthil saw agree.

I only last week got a big solid bottomed bag for all my chargers, batteries , drills angle grinders etc to protect them a bit more and I take them all at once out the van at night to put them back in the morning! Keeps them getting dusty and knocked around so much and obviously mikes better with them not being in van over night !! All these years of being paranoid about expensive tools in the van have vanished ha ! Not to mention them being better off inside in the warmth ! 👍🏻👍🏻! Great job that mate ! Anything on a steep gradient like that is never easy 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

Tidy job Justin 👍 good to see young lad doing the drains hands on best way to learn. Can only work with what you have sometimes this is one of them and I agree if I was the customer I’d go the more cost efficient route as like you say not being used as a drive and not a lot can do with it just tidys it up I’m sure you could park a lorry on that tho the concrete was very thick

What did you use to fill the gaps inbetween the pavements?
I think we used a resin on it
That little L shape cut at bay window could have been done away with if you cut bit of 600mm slab and that would let you come of house with full slabs but neither here or there I suppose, good job considering what your working with 👍

Yep,had same problem with Indian Slate...absolute nitmare,ended up laying it all,then cutting the joints out required with a mini grinder...guess we should start with a bigger joint to allow for it, but not keen on oversize joints...
Alan i did that on my own house just to see what the bigger joints look like and it looks wrong mate. Its the obvious thing to think though but dont do it alan .good points though.

Its difficult to say as im not on site to see it.
Generally if you dig a small water collection pit and pump or bucket the water out .Then scrap any slop of the surface area so its free of water and slop.
You are then good to mot the area .soon as the mot is in wack it straight away .if you leave it and water builds again your mot will turn to slop .
Its worse here in wales rain wise we get so much rain i feel for pain.

Do you have planning permission from the council to connect those drains? Pretty sure it needs to be installed into a soakaway?
Ideally a soakaway yes but in this case it just suited.
Fair play, a job that most would avoid.
What did you point it with?
Had to use a brush in on it due to the slope with a main drain at the bottom of it Joe 👍

recently did my own rainbow honed indian stone patio, the 300 x 300 slabs turned out 290 x 290 leaving massive joints :\
Cory its been a nuisance for years with this mate .About time the suppliers fixed the issue once and for all.They cut the slabs just cut em to the right sizes a mate

We've had that problem with paving sizes with Indian sandstone a few times. We always ordered the 840/560/280 sizes. Recently had a job and was supposed to all be 560 square (brickbond pattern) they hadn't got any but supplier said don't worry you can use the 600 by 600"s. We didn't even know they did them, so after that, I'm wondering whether the size batches get mixed up somehow, so you might get 840's and 560's with some 300's instead of 280's or 600's instead of 560's? I guess we'll never know.

Yes your right different suppliers do different sizes its a pain in the arse again to be honest .Bradstones wherw the 560 and 840 etc then marshalls used to be the same size now there arw 600 x 600.etc so a bit confusing isnt it but at least give us sizes that fit paul right ?

Paul as long as they are level and the run isnt to long and you have an outlet you can put them in level .ideally just a very slight fall though mate 👌
How did you connect the drainage to the gully grid
@@stearmy76 the drainage was higher thrn the gully so rested on top or we just cut a slot into the gully 👍

Why start from bottom on slope surface?can i start from top?
Start from.the top and the slabs are likely to move down hill.giving you big joints.
Id strongly suggest working from the bottom up .

Can I lay pavers use crush rock as base on slope surface?
Id recommend mot type 1 base with a screed layer of sharp sand .we have videos on block paving in the play list if that helps 👍
