Great informative video mate, I’m in the process of psyching myself up to lay my own patio, trawling RUclips for tips and hints, this has given me a good few ideas to work on, cheers 👍🏻
What a brilliant video Justin! Those Mark 1 Jaybots can be brilliant when regularly maintained - I've previously recommended periodical 'Chelsea Buns' and Diet something or other seems to work the trick! So informative and great tips and techniques, thank you so much for taking so much time and trouble editing and uploading! Now service the faulty Bot before the next job!
Or dave chelsea buns i used to watch match of the day eat two by the time it was over id eaten Four it took a lot of will power to stop my very bad habit 🤣🤣🤣 thanks dave for all your comments i appreciate it mate and yea that bloody jay bot gave us hell 🤣🤣👍
Great video, thank you for that. I’m about to lay my own patio with porcelain tiles and was just wondering how much sharp sand and cement I would need for 37 square meters. Again thank you for your help. 🕺👍
Cracking job, a couple of questions - do you only have a screed layer (sand) if not bedding on mortar and the gravel edges, is that just gravel or does there need to be a french drain built into it? Cheers
Another great video Justin. It’s reassuring to know I use the same methods as yourself ! I may go for 3 or 4mm spacers next time. Looks sleeker. I normally use 5mm. I didn’t see a string line on this one, Maybe as it’s a smaller patio you can avoid the lipping even with spirit levels ! Look forward to your next one mate.
Hi Mark First time with a 3mm joint for us and it looks great .tip is make sure the porcelain is vitrified all same size as with a 3mm joint any discrepancy in the porcelain will be seen. I usually go for the level as i find any sagging in the line even slight throws everything out or is that just me mark ? Cheers mate 👍
One of the best trades/DIY/construction vids on RUclips, and I've watched 1,000's of hours of this sort of content. Brilliant, hilarious bunch of lads (biased as a fellow Welshman just 20 miles up the road in Tredegar), but absolutely masterclass in tradesmanship; experience, knowledge, skill, etc. And all explained wonderfully. Giving me all the confidence to make my own in a few weeks. Justin, a question if you don't mind, but how do you rate porcelain compared to sandstone? A friend of mine said sandstone is very hard to lay because of the rivens, but you can get calibrated which is smoother, but he would still go porcelain as it's easier to lay as a beginner and much cheaper than sandstone. Do you agree with any of this?
Thanks Marus really appreciate you saying that 👍 As for you question. Porcelain is the hardest to lay and requires a high skill set both laying and cutting it . The riven sandstone the one with the uneven surface you just lay it to all the highest parts on the level its very forgiving not like porcelain so easier to lay. Then you have honed sandstone totally flat like porcelain but still easier to lay and cut than porcelain. Porcelain in my opinion is the hardest one to install and same can be said about grouting it. Hope that helps you Marcus appreciate your comments 🏴🏴👍🙌👌
@@brickrightbuildinglandscaping thanks for the reply buddy! Haha I was thinking the finish looks more luxurious in this vid at the end than plain old sandstone, even though a sandstone patio is beautiful to look at. Cracking job there Justin 👍 really like the grout color compliments the tiles well. What model rubi saw do you have and do you recommend it? I'm considering purchasing one soon as up to this point I'm using 115mm grinder for everything, but want to make those long 900mm cuts easier 😅
Thanks appreciate it . Rubi dx 250 plus cuts up to 1200mm i think. Rubi have replaced it with a new saw updated now.on the plus side no dust perfectly straight lines no bending. Minus the legs on this saw aint great although rubi have now updated that and its a big bit of kit quite heavy to move around. Id definitely buy there new version and i have to say rubi have an excellent site support team for repair and maintenance it truly is brilliant. So overall its been a great bit of kit for us and the new one is much improved so id look at that one .if you want a factory cut on long porcelain its great to have it in the tool box . Hope that helps you . If your close to cardiff your welcome to come out and give it a try out 👍🙌

One more question about setting levels, if use the strings for the levels with the fall required it’s the same as using the spirit level? Thanks you’re a good professional
I have taken my old slabs up and has left the old concrete base that is 100mm thick , I need a cement base of 50mm to put the new porcelain tiles on to get the correct hight , can I put the cement base on the concrete ? If that is OK ? and would it be best to put a cement slurry on the concrete first and then the 50mm bed then the tile ? Thanks
As long as the concrete has no cracks in it and its a good solid crack free area then yes .slurry or sbr the concrete then add mortar as usual. Be careful not to go to high to dpc though just a check for u . Good luck. Justin

Everything is well explained thanks, I'm wondering what make of porcelain blade you would recommend using with a 300mm stihl saw?

I'd use elite stone tools blades but as they are thin u must use water to cut the paving or the blade will work mate 👍

Gravel edge's are just aesthetics 👍
