What The Hell Happened To Resident Evil 3: Remake?

  • What's surprising is that Resident Evil 3 has been in development for three years, and by all accounts, it's development has gone pretty smoothly. This is clearly the game Capcom wanted to make, and they had enough time to make it. Resistance was outsourced and developed by Neobards Entertainment, and the team that developed the actual remake part of the package had little to do with that, so that obviously wasn't a distraction for them. It's hard, then, to figure out why this was the game they wanted to make, because clearly, it has a lot of issues that hold it back from realizing its potential.

They are literally the ones that will continue to buy their product, all they’ve got to do is listen to them. They could have added way more of RCC which is what people want! To see, to feel it. If I was one of the leads in Capcom, I would have started with a game where you’re in RCC as a regular police officer or DT. Start the story about 15 to 30 days prior to the total collapse of RCC, were you can see how this mysterious cannibalism decease starts spreading, getting to see Marvin, Jill, other cops, maybe even Kevin from Outbreak being a douche. Going to investigate crime scenes related to it and boom one day you get a radio call from a police officer to go back him up, you get there and the zombie is eating the police officer. Without thinking you shoot him, he falls to the ground you think he’s dead, the bodies get taken to the morgue (the police officer, the zombie, and the person that called the police.) later on they get up again and start spreading the virus in the police station, you are all traumatized by what happened. in your house ignoring everything that’s going on you’ve been off duty for about 5 days, turned your radios off, telephone disconnected. Finally you turn on the your radio and the RPD dispatch is calling all available officers to go to the RPD station because they are having a lot of trouble keeping the chaos under control, when you get there, there’s already quite a few zombies handcuffed or in jail cells, the morgue area is already blocked off because all the “dead” are up and chewing on people! A few police officers and the morgue workers are part of them now, you can’t believe it, you’ve gotta check it out. You go down to the morgue and can smell death, there’s a barricaded door with a safety window where you can see now the zombified police officer you found dead at the scene 5 days ago, and then comes around the one you thought you’ve killed, already looking gross and greenish, dark purple/Blue and with the bullet holes in his chest. After that you realize these things aren’t alive anymore by this time the city is already fucked basically at the point of no return, then you get to help out with survivors and try to barricade the RPD and all that, try to figure out why the fuck a lot of doors are locked and require special Keys and why the retarded Chief Irons ordered to spread ammo and weapons round the station, you never like his retarded ass, and believe he’s keeping secrets. In the end your character dies because he’s betrayed by the chief because you were discovering truths. Of course your character leaves a bunch of notes around the RPD and evidence. Then RE2 comes out, Leon finds a bunch of notes from the character, ammo, his gun, and ID badge. It would deepen everything how it all started with random cannibalistic attacks and turned into the end of RCC. Marvin would be more involved of course giving orders, staying cool, seeing how cops start becoming enemies and having to “kill”a lot of colleagues. Then in RE3 you see notes from the character of the game prior to 2 and 3 around areas he was when alive.

I agree, the amount of darkness everywhere was way overdone!
I didn't mind in the demo, because I thought this was just to build suspense & add atmosphere to your first exploration of the RPD, after all that had happened there..
And in the demo, you can clearly see that there were fuse panels that needed a new fuse, so I just thought sure, okay..we'll get to light up the RPD more after we replace a few fuses..and the lack of direct control over your flashlight, turning it on & off when YOU want it, just scripted for the demo..it'll be more finished for the final game..no worries..etc.
Soon we'll get it all lit back up, just like the original.
But, as we all know now..
The darkness was way overdone, and how was the main hall & STARS office all lit up, but not the rest of the building!?
You could turn on lights in some rooms, but rediculously, not others..
Lazy, overly scripted & dictated story telling at best, and I wanted to be able to do, and explore, so much more too!
Especially with Claire & the STARS office, her brother's desk, computer & jacket, even guitar maybe..her obtaining Chris' STARS Beretta from the Armoury there..
The list of possibilities there could've been endless..
Like learning of the aftermath for them of their lost teammates, sad mementos of happier times on their desks, and some personal goodbye entries, made in their remaining diaries etc, by all the surviving team members..
Stuff like that..more evidence that they trashed Wesker's desk bigtime, immediately on their return, for evidence before Irons shut them down & suspended them.
Why, with better game engines & graphics than ever, did they insist on so much darkness..sure at first, for ambience & to set a mood..
But really? THAT was all we were ever gonna get!?
And all the really cool costumes aren't even unlockable in, or part of, the damn game campaign!?
      Like they WERE in RE2?
Well, fuck you too then, capcom.

I really couldn’t care about Resistance, they should have focused on making a solid remake of the 3rd game, gave us everything the original had, and more. Cutting the clock tower was not okay, I enjoyed the park too (some people found it lame), and was sad when this was absent too. They fucked up by bringing us a lazy assed remake just so we could have an online game too, that no one probably cares about. I just feel let down by them, especially since the first and second games were both so incredibly remade.

Agreed. Resistance is clanky, and boring. There’s no motivation in playing and RE fans at heart play RE for the single player thrill and immersion. Plus cutting the nostalgic atmosphere really was noticed...even if RE2 remake was almost deja vu for being so similar was great! RE3 just didn’t have the same satisfaction. The early part of the city where Jill and Brad meetup, could have been visited and explorable for mission and side mission., but nope, the concept of RE3 about running around the Raccoon City streets was missed out, something director or whoever is in charge, did not understand about the original.this could have that opportunity but they just blew it.
Jill only has total of 3 costumes.
Carlos has only hair swap and shaved face, not even his classic UBCS costume
The intro was just a boring news reporting and clips.

    • @bjlewis5431
      @bjlewis5431 4 года назад +2

Yes, the intro to 3 was awesome, it both showed & explained so much..every pic is worth a thousand words, and that intro told a whole game's synopsis in just a few mins..
It got you revved up, it made you informed, it showed the city and its events, (that your about to walk into!), almost like you'd been there..it showed real people, and those who had since ceased to be those people..
It set the tone of the game, the mood, and put you right in your characters place, PERFECTLY!
And what did we get for the newer, better, more 'modern' remake?
      SWEET F ALL..Zip, nada, nill..
They put exactly as much effort into the game as they have care for it..
They just want your cash, and hope your all as dumb, spinless and cowardly..as to do nothing about it, but whine..
Well, after the intense dissapointment in REmake2, and its being ridiculously short, and all the great cutscenes removed or mangled..and now with the tiny, near abortion that was supposed to be 3make..proving both let downs were fully intentional, and that this was always Capcom's intended new 'standard' for the RE series..to cut & chop it into pieces, all its original plot, heart & soul out.. and then pretend to bandaid (about only a quarter of it) back together..and call that a full & finished game!?
You'd have to be retarded, with a double helping of down syndrome, to think that was ever gonna fly with real fans..much less twice.
I'm now permanently boycotting all CAPCOM games & products, period.
This includes for my kids, and nieces & nephews as well..it didn't take any persuading for the family to agree..all I had to do was let that typically japanese, filthy bug face-rape scene speak for itself..and 4 generations of our family will now never aid or pay capcom a red cent, ever again.
Capcom can go look at a real damn game..something like Witcher 3, or Horizon: zero dawn, or The last of us, and see how wide, and expansive a 'modern game' needs to be, and what a powerful story, and it's fully immersive telling, really requires..
How to give it some heart & soul.
Not just prostitute it all out for a 2nd quick cash grab, from a new generation of kids who don't know or care any different.
And how to make it a journey worth taking..much less 'making'.
Like someone else already said here: If your gonna remake a game..you better damn well at least stay true, and please the hardcore fans first.

Make a sad scene with Jill leaving the note etc. Cause in the note, I had assume that Jill knew, and it felt like a heart felt note left behind. But overall I loved it, I got no issues other than that. It was short after knowing how much was into the story, but I take it in stride unlike a lot of fans here. We got to see how things unfolded before Leon and Claire arrived, Carlos broke the wall to Stars office, Tyrell and Carlos took down the furniture blocking a lot of doors etc (I assumed, when Tyrell was searching everywhere else), Jill used the gate, which was why it was opened when Claire arrived when a zombie broke it down. All that I noticed, it was good for me.

The last portion of the story, with the final showdown with Nicholai, is the only weak part of the narrative. And it's not as terrible as some stuff from the otherwise awesome RE2make ("How are you holding up?" "Well, you know, surviving..."). Otherwise, RE3make is quite well written: the characters never felt so much like real people (or at vey least movie characters - not cartoon or comic book characters as in the original). The new Jill and Carlos are just great, especially in the way their relationship builds up. I only wish that they had made the first part of the game larger, with more areas to explore while being chased by Nemesis, even though I don't think they would've been able to make him like Mr.X in the RE2make: Mr. X only comes into play in the second half of the RPD section, once you have solved most of the puzzles and already know they layout of the precinct. And that second part, albeit very intense, is quite brief - Mr. X himself is the variable that can make it last longer, depending on his actions. To top it all, you're in confined space. Nemesis stalking you through the city the whole time like Mr.X did seemed a bit too much - I personally was pretty skeptical (yet hopeful) about it. Probably, the only way to make it work would've been having more scripted appearances as in the original (I am glad this video pointed out that Nemesis in '99 was NOT random - depending on your actions, you could meet him in different places, sometimes, but the patterns could be learned after a couple of playthroughs).

Remake= a near 1:1 copy of the original utilizing new tech, utilizing the current era's sensibilities during release, and smoothing out gameplay to modernize it for that particular era. This could also have minor changes to the original formula; including but not all, changes to character designs, rearranged plot beats, additions to mechanics(think Crimson heads in REmake vs the PSX original or the MGSw gameplay features found in The Twin Snakes), and may or may not remove large portions of the game featured in the original with new addittions, while staying as faithful as possible to the source material.
Remaster= exactly what you think it is, the same game with slightly better graphics, HD textures and better quality audio. A remaster is literally just that, an upgraded version featuring higher fidelity ported over to make use of new hardware(higher bit sampling rates, higher shaders, etc.) .(im a sound engineer so im familiar with the concept of the remaster).
Reimagining= a complete retelling of a story plot based on previous source material. FF7 remake is a reimagining, not a remake. RE3remake is somewhere in the middle. Reimaginings can include characters and plot elements or even gameplay from the originals but is starkly different to the point its effectively a reboot or its own game entirely with little relation to the source material. This effectivelly retcons the original. This can include everything from an extreme change of pacing of the plot as well as the core design philosophy of the game to the point it really bares little resemblence to the original except small details you remember in the original.
What hurts R3remake more than the RE2remake is the core design philosophy of the originals. RE3 was already the most action focused entry of the original psx "trilogy". While RE2 wad already shorter and more action focused in its pacing then the original RE1, it was still at its core more focused towards what many think of as "traditional" survival horror tank control days.
RE3 is always conpared closer to Dino Crisis 2 in terms of pacing and focus than RE2 to Dino Crisis 1. The RE2remake may reimagine a few things, but its a great reinterpretation of classic survival horror and made it feel so close to what RE2 did for a lot when it released in 97(?). Just now, utilizing better tech and mkdern control schemes. RE2remake felt like a clasic survival horror game just with modern controls and shooting mechanics. RE3remake feels closer to later day action focused RE pre RE7 era of games. This semi reimagine remake has shown a few issues behind the original's core design and its modern interpretation. Its more flash than substance, and the original for its time was a bit more flash than substance(albeit still good, it was always my least favorite of the original main line 3). What made 2 work was that it was unique for its time in the enviroment of 2019 AAA game industry and brought the game and its core sensibilities into the modern era. RE3 feels very......2020. Or just chalk it up to bia and nostalgia. Hell, you can just chalk it up some meta subversion that people jist need to grow up and smell the flowers. Times are changing. Like it or leave it.

In the original, after he lost his jacket, it was still him but you could tell from all the tentacles sprouting everywhere that he was slowly falling apart which culminated in him getting partially melted at the Dead Factory. Here, he gets sets on fire and just straight up turns into what looks like a Xenomorph and stays like that

The team using the original IP made a huge mistake.
Nemesis is a Tyrant. He's a T-103 with the Nemesis parasite. He's resilient and can regenerate from damage -- hence why he keeps coming back.
He never evolved or transformed -- Maybe to a slight degree like the RE1 Tyrant and Mr. X.
He's not a Birkin Quadruped G-Type. Huge mistake.
He was a Tyrant until the very last short scene of the game, after being dismembered, decapitated, and dumped in disposal... whatever was left regenerated into an unrecognizable monstrosity in a scene that wasn't really a boss fight.
They tried to remain somewhat faithful to the original in the starting downtown area, and do what the RE2 team did with Mr. X _(This wasn't the RE2 team)_ but only for the very starting area. They didn't get Nemesis right at all.
The team that _"Remade"_ this game didn't remake RE3. This is also that team's first big game.
RE1 & 2 were remakes. Everything was there, the same areas, the same plot, the same scenes, just expanded upon. Main Hall --> Dining Room --> Zombie Hallway. Main Hall --> West Hallway --> West office & Security Deposit Room --> Dark Room & Stairs
This is an entirely different game. They used the IP, like the resident evil films did. Yes, the characters are there, and some rough inspiration from the source material.
They made a good game, the problem is they decided to rewrite one of the greatest games of all time for their first big game. Their job was to remake it, not completely rewrite it.

The biggest disappointment in my opinion is the lack of Nemesis in his humanoid form. I feel they really rushed his transformations. We didn't even see Nemesis use his weapons enough it was like demo's. I wish we could have seen way more of that iconic Nemesis stalker type. They could have done so much more with this game. One thing I was even thinking of last night was they could have sent Nemesis to the R.P.D to retrieve his rocket launcher and while he's in there you run into him as Carlos. They could have implemented a Hide N Go Seek scenario where you have to dodge and hide from him or fight him leading to very tense moments. Then as you're making your way through the left wing of the station you get cornered at the Shower room with Nemesis coming up the stairs towards you. Tyrell tells you that you're in the direction of the S.T.A.R.S office and that it's on the other side of that wall. Carlos then gets the ballsy idea to use him to blast his rocket at the Shower wall to get to the other side releasing the steam from the blown up hot water tank separating you and Nemesis allowing you to get to the S.TA.R.S office where Tyrell explains to Carlos what to do. Once finished you go through the other door where the horse statue is and you reach the Library where you find the door is locked so you have to find the blue key (It's where it was as Leon in RE2R) so you find the key on the desk and you radio Tyrell that you're on your way back where Nemesis busts through the wall behind you explaining how the upstairs wall broke. Now with him hot on your trail you rush through the area into the Library where you make your way to the main floor where a cutscene plays showing Tyrell seeing you running from something then you tell him we gotta go with Nemesis right behind you guys as you both make your way at the front gate outside the R.P.D Nemesis catches up to you guys and Tyrell decides to sacrifice himself and fends off the Nemesis while he tells you to get to the hospital. There Carlos is watching around the corner where it shows Tyrell being blasted with Nemesis' rocket throwing him to the ground where Nemesis picks him up Tyrell starts punching him in the face while calling him ugly and such and such then Nemesis brings out his tentacle and plunges it into the mouth of Tyrell with the tentacle going out through the back of his neck a brutal, but satisfying death and a part of the game that would have been amazing. That's just one example I have more I thought of. I think that scenario alone could have made the game that much better and could have been a way to really show the relentlessness of the Nemesis.

It was clear to us that Re2 was the better, longer and more story focused game boosted by the A and B routes which added to the length but not much in terms of environments.
So to be fair I'm not surprised that that is still the case with the remakes. I loved 2, easily one of the best games last year and I enjoyed 3, am I disappointed? No, but I wasn't expecting anything that would match 2.

Sigh.. seems that only the graphics are really an improvement in these new 'remakes'..everything else is chopped, less, & watered down..just to dramatically over-do only the theatrics..at the expense of real plot & lore.
      Dissapointed.
About the only 2 really good bits were seeing how Brad bit Marvin, and the expanded, more realistic hospital areas..
But i would've preferred they not introduce new characters like tyrell, and just kept the other shady & sinister 2 UBCS guys Carlos runs into in the OG-3 hospital area..that are trying to escape Nicholai too.
He was nowhere as dangerous either, just more creepy..but in a pathetic kind of way, not the serious, murdering, rampaging merc of RE3..
Here he was more a mix of greedy banker, turned trigger happy politician..
Either way, not nearly as expansive, or as well & fully done, as I'd been hoping for.
Should have focused more on the intro to OG-3, and focused on its events & happenings, recreated all of the city, and its happening around jill, and town already being taken over by monsters, the RPD being overrun..the UBCS falling & taking heavy losses too..
Should've shown more of Mikhail Victor's platoon fast roping into the city, facing off, taking losses..

Yeah, which is exactly what I said.
      I agree, mate!
The intro to OG-3 was nearly an awesome mini-game spectacular in itself, that told a whole story in a cool few minutes!
That was already a winning recipe, they just had to follow it..properly.
As it was, I think I'd have preferred it was just a 'massive expansion pack' for 2, but with much more city area, and Jill's campaign in it.
They only needed to add some great skins & more speed, with tentacles and voice to mr X, to turn him into Nemi..
And then we could have ALL our favorite characters & costumes, weapons & exploration in just one giant Raccoon City gameland area!
It should've all been made 100% interchangeable & increasing the RE2 maps, just made it a bigger map area, and added more of the intro elements from OG-RE3's opening scenes..
That would've been far better, overall..IMHO.
And far more useful & fun.
Even just running around a much bigger raccoon city, with any of your fav characters, in your fav outfits..surviving it all UNSCRIPTED..with new stuff to explore, like the new hospital area was, would be much more fun, than RE3.

They can do so much when it comes to retelling an old story. With this release time it's really hard not to compare what they did RE3 and what Square did to FFVII. For a remake, it essensally an established story/plot, they can take that chance to expand it, it's easier 'cause the expanded lore from the later titles were already there. But instead of expansion route like FFVII remake or REmake in 2002, both RE2 and RE3 chose to narrow the story, with RE3 even more narrower. It's just so baffling seeing how Capcom treat the lore like this, they too focus on modernizing the gameplay they forgot to tell a good narative plot in RE2 and a good design plot in RE3. The result is exactly that, good to play games with narrow plot, even worse in RE3 when you can see the cut clearly.

      Ecactly!
I thought the same things too..
      Why wouldn't you think that!?
There would be zero reason to feature these things if they didn't actually work as they do in the real world, and have some degree of same, in-game actual value..
So many fun add-on gun parts..that you can't actually custom use & don't actually work:
      1. the twin mated rifle mags..
(That do zero to increase your reload speed between the 2 mags) but yet, DO somehow magically 'join their capacities' together instead. WTF?
      That's NOT how that works.
      2. A red-dot sight for Glock pistols..that will go on a G19 compact, but somehow NOT on a G18..(and blocks the chamber ejection port!)
Yeah, that's NOT how that works either..
      3. A suppressor!
Wow, neat..that'll sure help make us harder to hear & less likely for Nemi to find us..as long as we stick to the suppressed Glock, we're good!
(NO, of course not..why would we ever think that?
      Because here's a twist:
'That's EXACTLY how that's meant to work!
      But doesnt. WTF!?
      You get the point.
      Way to much Sake, Capcom.
The whole, (extremely short!) game makes Raccoon City look and feel like your in Disneyland, during an outbreak..not a damn real City!
Loads of glowing Neon everywhere! (But the city power is out..hmm.) and major landmarks, like the STAGLA fuel station, are only hinted at quickly in cut scenes..and their respective parts in the story, recreated elsewhere.
The sewers were the only part that changed it up at all, and far too scripted and destroying my immersion & exploration of the areas, (and denying me claiming all my extra prizes for felling him!)..WTF Capcom!?
The RPD can't be entered as jill..
Sure, she only Worked there for years, but some UBCS jug-heads can just walk right in..(after Marvin locked the doors!) and none of them is the City's own, official 'MASTER OF UNLOCKING' and didn't come bearing breaching gear, det cord for locks & city obstructions, or even a 'masterkey' option, for mounting the excellent Benelli M3 shotgun, over & under combo to their M4 CQB Rifles..just as they very commonly are in real life..but Nemi gets a giant rocket launcher, that shoots blanks!
Hell even the 'knife' in REmake2 & 3, is a rifle bayonet for the M4 CQBR.
But strangest of things, isn't among the items you can equip on it..Clearly too muh Sake at Capcom!
The player available weapons & options are Okay, and the shop options for re-runs are..hmm, fair.
The 'Hot-Dogger' is good fun, (and should also be an equipable rifle bayonet) giving its knife & fire-damage to enemies, with the rifle used as such..especially for Carlos' strike attacks!
But most are nowhere near as great, (or as user customisable!), as I'd have liked..
Parasite Eve 2, (on PS2!) DID this, and far better, especially with all the stuff made for REmake2, not also being fully supported, along with all of its other Characters & costumes & weapons too.
Kudos for the Brad & Marvin scene, tho!
Many Sins off for that one..that was the best scene in the game!
The one piece of script that really shone bright!
It raised my rating from 3/10, to 4.
Carlos' 'sorry, poster boy' remark about brad, and that they knew someone would eventually shoot at the STARS dartboard..were also a few gems.
So, why didn't the Clock tower area exist?
They chopped huge sections out, and they made jill such a cool badass in some regards..just to make her the worlds most easily & cheaply fucked 'cut-scene ambushed villiage idiot' in existance..seriously!?
Extremely poor & lazy script writing & story development in this regard, and the enviroment was not nearly as interactive, useable, or destructable as modern game engines can & should make them, especially in such closed-space enviroments, in such a short game.
Put simply, this is a heavily resticted, PS2 era sized game, with an equivalent restrictive world.
      Just better graphics.
OK, The big railgun weilding, overly japanese, sword art online wanna-be stuff at the end, I didn't really mind..Credit where it's due, that was a FAR cooler testbed railgun design.. (and way cooler Nemi termination scene!) than the OG, by far!
OK, +1 more for that too.
All up, it's Okay..but it's far from the supurb & much more fully explorable city we got in the original, so..all this crap about how it was all gonna be bigger & include all of REmake2 areas..all just big lies & huge dissapointment.
      Final score: 6/10.

Real talk: I loved RE3: Remake but I finished it the same night it arrived in the mail. I feel like it should have been a DLC for RE2: Remake rather than a standalone title (worth $60 at that). I definitely had a good time, but the game felt far too short and cramped. All we got of Racoon City were a couple plazas, garages, alleys, and a very brief visit to the RPD. Not only that, but we were promised a "relentless" Nemesis pursuer, only for him to be gone for what felt like half the game. Once he transformed into his second form, he became a scripted boss fight for the rest of the game.
I feel like having different endings could have alleviated this some, but I hope Capcom listens for whatever future titles they come out with.

After how amazing RE2R was, it's a shame what happened to RE3. 6-12 months more development and no multiplayer would have made this game atleast nearly as good as RE2R was. Too bad that you didn't like RE4, it's my favorite RE game in the franchise. It was heading towards action, but the creepy atmosphere, resource management, careful controls, and solid gameplay mechanics were still there. It felt like a perfect marriage between old school RE and more modernized gameplay to me. And it was packed with content. Additional modes, unlockables, it had it all. The most feature complete RE game out there.
RE5 turned further towards action, made the game into simple fun and worryingly so, then RE6 came and went nuts; ruined the whole franchise.
RE2 Remake was the step into the right direction. Nearly a perfect Remake. I guess some credit to RE7 is due because it showed that there's still market for Horror-oriented RE games which ultimately gave Capcom confidence to remake RE2 the right way. So many story elements could have been fleshed out of this remake. Such a missed opportunity and its a shame. If you didn't know, after the incident of the first RE game, there were epilogues that went into more details about Jill as a character. Jill was traumatized by those events, she was so traumatized by it, she would often times have nightmares about it and it literally affected how she viewed life. Then on top of that Raccoon City Police Chief made Her and the rest of the surviving STARS members look crazy in the public eye, so no one believed Jill or the others who survived. In the beginning of the Remake, where you take control of Jill and go into the bathroom. That image of her turning into a Zombie was hints that she was traumatized by those events and Capcom failed to dive even deeper into that aspect of Jill. That would have made Jill's character even more fleshed out. Jill is one of my Favorite RE characters besides Chris Redfield, I would have loved to get to know more about her character.
Her seeing Nemesis would have had even more of an impact if it would had done something to her mental state. The fact that she has to relive the trauma once again should have effected her tremendously since out of all the surviving STARS members she was affected most mentally. I think it would have added more depth to the games story in my opinion. Not only that Raccoon City is a character in itself, expanding into more locations while adding story elements to them would have been awesome. Jill should have been the one to head back to the station, a story element could have definitely worked in there to make it happen. She does have a office desk there. Something of importance to the story as a reason for her to head to the R.P.D. would have worked. How about Nemesis himself, we do know that he was once a human that was experimented on. We could have definitely gotten a chance to see more about Nemesis and Umbrella as a whole and the conflict that Carlos would soon have, knowing now that he is working for a corrupt Organization.

I agree with everything that was said here. The most important thing for me was Nemesis. Nemesis just didn’t feel like Nemesis. After he mutates, Nemesis wasn’t Nemesis no more. Tbh, I really wished they dived more into Nikolai. They really set him up to become a really good villain, only to not really do anything with him. Would of been nice to have a boss fight with him only to have Nemesis interrupt to showcase who the real villain was. Solid game but fell short from being great.

In the original 1999 game, Nicholai can show up as a boss in a helicopter thanks to the branching paths. You can fight and kill him, likely the only real human on human kill in the franchise, or Jill can convince him to leave.
Canon has Nicholai escaping the city alive.

Honestly, they could have scrapped the entire stage 2 of Nemesis and just remained with his first form. It would have actually been more tense to fight him in that form. Plus they just scrapped the whole reason why he mutated in the first place. In the original, he mutated due to cannibalization on tyrant corpses. In here, he just mutated out of nowhere.

@@Gruntvc Also also if you chose to push nemesis off the bridge before entering the dead factory in re3 1999 you will encounter Nikolai outside the plant facility (where you'll fight nemesis before the final boss) where Nikolai gets killed in cutscene by nemesis.

@@Gruntvc would explain why there wasn't any confrontation at the end of the remake. Perhaps we will see him in future installments? Since losing Wesker in RE5, he might be the next best thing.

@@chompiechomp6341 Whole heartily agreed! I was like why is mutating right now? It just felt so out of place. Nemesis is non existent half way through the game.

This was more of a “this is a disappointment compared to the RE2 Remake, here’s why” as opposed to “we did some heavy research to figure out what went wrong” as the title would suggest
May want to change the name of the video to reflect that

The thing I was most disappointed in the game was that we didn’t have the final boss fight with nemesis in the dead factory and instead ended fighting in another NEST lab like from resident evil 2

Just having another fight with a damaged nemesis and being able to melt his arm and face off would be fun, just like the original. I didn’t care much for the giant dog nemesis
