He's not exactly a "Grim Reaper". He's the one you send to kill the Grim Reaper. Hunk is a man of focus, commitment and sheer freakin' will. Things most other Umbrella operatives know very little about.
I always considered HUNK’s appearance in RE4’s “Mercenaries” mode as a canon appearance. He was there. Doing something. For someone . Behind-the-Scenes. As always. 🙂
@@xMrFuzZyKitteH Probably what can we call as damage control. Backup documents and retrieve sample. Which explains why umbrellla have a lot of shit that they have done so many cases/outbreak. Because there's always that one duded they hire to retreive important stuff
I'd love to see a DLC starring Hunk where he has to go into zones and wipe out the remaining monsters in places that the Resident Evil characters were in. The ruins of Raccoon, the Village from RE 4, Wesker's African base, etc. Just an idea.
I think the funniest part of that cutscene with Hunk trying to take in Birkin is that Martinez killing Birkin is described as a snafu, like I've only ever heard snafu used for little mistakes and errors, not brutally shooting a man because you thought he had a gun
They were gonna shoot him anyway they didn't think he was gonna inject himself with G-virus that was the "snafu" or the fact T-virus vials got broken. If everything went right, Umbrella would have been ironically heroes
Ngl to me an Elite Soldier on Corporate's payroll shooting a non-compliant scientists sounds like Tuesday to those guys, so I have to agree with SNAFU. Also Birkin had a gun.
They're probably shy about giving HUNK his own RE game because every time he's involved, it's always some high discipline corporate warfare-feeling vibes and fans probably feel like that interferes with the horror feel. HUNK is a badass and his fanbase deserves to be accommodated but the taste for HUNK is just probably too niche for the huge camp of more fairweather fans whose opinions likely decide the direction for the next RE project.
I agree, characters like Ada, HUNK, and Krauser fall under the corporate and industrial themes of Umbrella and black market pharmaceuticals. They’re called in to clean up, erase, or further improve the nuances of Umbrella’s “fallout” because even though the company doesn’t formally exists any longer, characters like these still depict that there is indeed ongoing corporate rivalry afoot through their perspectives.
Honestly, I think there's enough fans of the character, and other characters in the series, that giving him his own game that's more action, less survival horror wouldn't be considered a bad move.
I think what makes Hunk so interesting is just how little we know about him. I definitely think he should show up more often, just not as a main character
@Rationale Decay Nah, because if you have HUNK as boss fight, you'll lose all mystery and cool factor about him, because you beat him. He's better as NPC, because you literally know nothing about him. In RE universe, I'll rather take my chances with BOW then having to encounter HUNK, because all BOW and enemies die, HUNK always survives. That's how he got his nicknames.
@@J.J.Jameson_of_Daily_Bugle @njmfff Maybe it could still work if Hunk is an unbeatable boss. Something like how Darth Vader was used in Star Wars: Fallen Order.
@@J.J.Jameson_of_Daily_Bugle Maybe a boss fight with HUNK wouldn’t end with you beating him, but rather just you escaping him somehow. It would still keep the unbeatable aspect of him while still having a epic boss fight.
What feds into HUNK's status in the RE community. Is that HUNK's constant appearance in RE: Bonus Modes as a monetary or late game unlock. With conditions such as get good rank as a requirement. It adds to his status and value. HUNK is an acronym for "Human Unit Never Killed." It is rare how despite how other characters get new voices and actors. HUNK has the luxury of keeping his Voice consistent. The VA being Keith Silverstein. He's been voicing HUNK since RE:Mercenaries 3D. HUNK also appeared in the videogame Lost Planet 3 with custom voice lines in a character pack of DLC.
As much as I love playing as and seeing Hunk, I prefer not having a whole game designed around him. I feel like it takes away from his purpose, this unkillable character without any real information known other than he's a badass and is almost always the only one that comes out the door
Nah I would love a Hunk game, there's ways to make a badass character that you only know little about. For instance Benicio Del Toros Alejandro in Sicario is a amazing character that also seems unkillable and the last person you want coming after you but we only know that he was a prosecutor in Mexico that had a wife and daughter killed by the cartel, he then offered his services to the CIA and rival cartels and became a highly efficient killer
HUNK is the only character in the series that ends up being more Chad than Chris and Leon. Only dude whose Testosterone outperforms Chris and Leon’s and that’s a testament in itself. I really hope there is a HUNK game one day. Human Unit Never Killed aka GigaChad Maximus.
Before this remake I would have agreed with you. I still do BUT the difference is not nearly as impressive this time. If a zombie so much as looks at Leon, he flinches. Brush shoulders with one? Leon will nearly fall over and stagger 3 feet the other way. Trying to knife someone to death? They'll just waltz on through it like you're using a plastic olive stick.
I wonder if HUNK was potentially genetically enhanced by Umbrella after showing incredible promise during training. Or maybe he was just incredibly naturally skilled.
Dear, sweet JESUS, what I wouldn't give for a PROPER (touchscreen) keyboard that ACTUALLY TYPES PROPERLY... I'm not illiterate, I graduated with honours, but these DAMNED things keep puttting emoji's & shit in there/eciting my replies when not mis-spelling what I type/entering characters I didn't even HIT... GOD, this SUCKS...great vid tho~
I thought the same .... would be cool if he was the first to accept and be enhanced by the progenitor virus. Maybe his mother was affected and from the flowers location, gave birth to Hunk and adopted by Umbrella.
I've literally found myself smiling and crying in joy as in the RE4 remake HUNK descendend from the helicopter, geared up and said his famous quote: "It's HUNKIN time!"
What appeal to me with Hunk is that we don't really see his face. Also character who have their face covered always have a mystique to them, like "Super hero" with super human ability as we can't see their emotion and instead we see their action that speak loudly that they are skilled. Sorta like those SAS soldiers that fought in the Iranian Embassy who rescued the hostages while wearing a gasmask
@@DonYoGi8331 I think in original re2 there is a still screen image of him and then the other places its shown were I think in operation raccoon city. I am not 100% sure because I only know the mainline games and the side games are a mist
HUNK's identity should remain a mystery because that's what makes him cool and interesting. If they do put him in future installments any background information about him should be drip fed to the audience. He's like the Ganado merchant in RE4. You don't need to know everything about him.
I would like a game focused around him but refuses to open up his origins. Just backround, or connections in the timeline, like training Jake or cleaning up RCPD's mess after the credits roll.
The only think I knew of HUNK, was that he came back from every mission. His legendary status got started because he's the only one who came back from assignments that were garonteed certain death. It even spooked the government, that's why he's so mysterious. HUNK is the guy you send in, when it's too late to send anyone else. His specialty is recovering by any means.
My best guess is HUNK is currently working for Blue Umbrella, some other PMC or even the US government. His skills and experience would be invaluable to such organizations, and considering the shady stuff we learn about the BSAA from RE Village he may even be with them. Much like Leon who was forced to join the secret service after Raccoon because of his experience figthing bioweapons, it would not surprise me if he's leading similiar task forces or carrying out black operations for private corperations. Hopefully we learn more about Blue Umbrella and the BSAA in the next game, capcom keeps throwing out bait and switch twists which never seem to be expanded.
There’s well trained characters throughout the games, there’s Bio-Weapons, there’s the literal protagonists of the games, and then there’s Hunk. Edit: Another thing I like about Hunk is that despite his reputation, he’s team oriented. Despite being pissed at his subordinate for killing William Birkin, he doesn’t make that distinction when he calls it in. “We’re in, sir. We had a snafu, target resisted, we had to take him out.”
Yeah I like HUNK's demeanor and sense of duty to not only see the mission out to success, but to also support his team, even when things clearly go wrong
@@funmylife9248 i'd love to see HUNK as an antagonist who the MC/s of a future game have to defeat, but either "defeating" HUNK mostly comes down to "survive HUNK and then get the hell out" or else he seems to be dead but the post-credits stinger is him emerging from some hellhole having not only survived yet again but gone on to do something important again off-screen and succeeded at it. he's the kind of character where practically anything short of showing his head literally explode or getting launched into the sun or thrown into a volcano and shot multiple times with a rocket launcher still leaves you thinking "yeah, i definitely buy that he's still around" rather than it feeling cheap or like a stretch. not QUITE just another tuesday for HUNK, but it's still gonna take more than that to bring down the grim reaper. OR a situation where things go wild and HUNK is actually a badass semi-ally we have to work with temporarily because at this point whatever his mission was has changed to "stop the apocalypse again" and that's already what we were doing anyway. so every so often throughout a game, HUNK does some insane thing nearby, or offers fire support, etc
Hunk is a prime example of if it ain't broke don't fix it. Meaning as much as a whole game sounds nice I like him better as he is....... mysterious......and badass
What I like about Capcom is that they actually listen to the player-base/fans. So if there is enough clamor for a stand-alone game featuring HUNK, it will most definitely happen. The tricky part is... how will it be done? It would be hard to make a survival horror game when the center of it is the guy you send to kill the grim reaper.
Just do it like the original RE4, leon there was a giga chad doing some crazy shit but it still was a survival horror. The only thing is that hunk would be dead serious the whole time
I really love the 90s OSS Black Ops look, it's so iconic that I'm really struggling to think of a military/paramilitary look more memorable from such a short-lived period of time. All black cargo gear, German style riot helmet, ruby lensed gas mask, HK MP5K and Glock handgun. It's so generic but so awesome. The only thing I would say is missing is the Splinter Cell-like drop down emerald night vision goggles. Ghost from Call of Duty had a cool look but there is just so much more to it, this is simple and effective.
In terms of DnD alignments, I consider HUNK to be Lawful Neutral. He doesn't care about good or evil. He only cares about the mission, and he'll make it through no matter the cost.
In media where great powers are at play and people possess abilities beyond what is possible, it is always the normal guy who's just REALLY good at their job that's the coolest.
I'm a bit torn on Hunk. On one hand it's rather compelling to see some more of him in the future, but his aura of mysteriousness is also one of his biggest pros compared to other characters. You don't know much about it, but when you see him you know it's something important, so yeah ... Maybe another side DLC or something like that, but nothing too major I'd say.
From this perspective, Umbrella doesn’t seem as evil as I initially thought. They genuinely knew the danger of this virus and wanted to shut it down (or at least, contain it better so that stuff like RE2 wouldn’t happen). If Berkin listened, the. RE2 probably wouldn’t have happened. Also if he did get brought in alive (which is what umbrella wanted), it wouldn’t have happened.
I can't wait for a game just for hunk about his story because damn he's been around just as long as Chris and Leon I believe always treated as a "side mission character"
He is one of my absolute favorite RE characters, and is the Boba Fett of the RE franchise. Little is known (prior to the Star Wars spin off shows), and is a total badass. I want more HUNK, and would love to see him as a story protagonist, maybe even as the badass soldier cleanup character at the end of the game. I also love that he incorporated Jazz Hands into his fighting style.
I'd love to see a mainline game, maybe even RE9, where he's working as a mercenary unknown to the rest of the world or the main cast despite being such an important figure
Imagine a future RE game spin-off where we're introduced to a mysterious badass protagonist in hiding. Trying to live a retired life only to be accidentally involved on Umbrella, Neo-Umbrella, or whatever evil company at large from the timeline of RE4-RE8. We'll play as that character and slowly love him like Ethan in RE7... And when we're nearing the end game or even mid-game. We'll soon realize we're playing HUNK while he wears his iconic full gear. The reveal could even be just in the end cut scene so we can replay the game in full costume after we unlocked it from finishing the first playthrough.
HUNK is also available as a DLC character for Resident Evil Revelations 1 and 2 both iterations are stupidly OP AF. He's given a Special Stealth Camo mode that rivals Solid Snakes from Metal Gear. As well as a disposable Fold out Rocket launcher that skill that deals absurd damage. Load out consists of an Shotgun, Magnum, and SMG dealing the most damage. He can also equip certain snipers like the Muramasa and the Special AR Golden Ak-47, both dealing tremendous damage in their respective weapon classes. HUNK is also the only one capable of instant killing certain mini-bosses with stun animations.
Hunk would be an interesting possibility as a midgame antagonist. Let's say he was sent to get something you have. Could spend a chapter trying to lure him into traps and avoid him, maybe kill all his squadmates until he finally catches you , grabs the mcguffin and just walks off since killing you isn't in the mission parameters. This could then set off the third act of whatever story the game is actually about.
I can very well imagine Hunk just chilling by the beach, sitting on the millions of dollars bonuses Umbrella paid him for the recovery of the G-Virus. With his mask.
Fun fact: in RE4 merc mod HUNK was origanaly spouse to have a knife just like leon but since the knife can stuns enemys and HUNK can one shot stund enemys with his neck snap they took it away so he wouldnt turn the game in to an easy breeze
I hope they make a game based on Hunk bcuz he definitely gives a John wick vibe in the RE Universe a guy that survives in unsurvivable situations although mainly other character have gone through such experiences I think hunk would be different than other characters like Leon and Chris etc
I have seen so many people see HUNK for the first time and say, verbatim: "That's just a normal guy" "But he's just really good at what he does". So a buffer then normal man punching a boulder and a pretty boy who roundhouse kicks zombies are completely out of the ordinary but a soldier with glowing red eyes who does Spooky Fingers after snapping some necks is just a normal man?
Going back to 98 and then on. Playing the Hunk missions and beating them were a big bragging right for me and my friends. I loved those missions way more than the Tofu mission. I never beat that part.
I would love to see Hunk on what he's doing now since Raccoon City, CANONICALLY!. All his other appearances have always been non-canon side stuff like Mercenaries and Revelation's Siege mode or whatever it was called.
he was a researcher who was killed accidently for his research. he turned into G to save himself. He was always morally questionable but yes, he is still a Villain
@@RandoLePerson Hunk literally says that they were supposed to take Birkin in alive. Alpha team member shot William when he either pulled or looked like he was about to pull the gun, which he wasn’t supposed to do and seemingly wasn’t in line with their training as only one team member shot him, not the whole team. By that definition it would be accidental.
I think hunk should be in more games, but that he should still not have much explained about him in them. I think my favorite thing about hunk is how in revelations two his finisher for grounded opponents isn't a simple stomp or stab. Instead he draws his sidearm and unloads 3 rounds into their skull before carrying on.
I definitely agree. I'd love to see him in more games but he also needs to maintain that mysterious quality to him. I think "The Fourth Survivor" mode was excellent in RE2. Although I prefer a slightly longer mode for HUNK, having some side mode featuring HUNK in future games would be fun to see
Hunk is the character RE loves to have their fans forget about, for him to return again and again and blow everyone away. I'm assuming he's a bit old in the new games and wouldn't appear in RE9. That being said, if he ever did reappear as an old man, I will be so fucking ready
Man I would liked to have seen in the live action resident evil movie imagine in the 2 movie being the only umbrella employee to walk out unscathed, bummer indeed
HUNK's name is actually acronym . Human Unit Never Killed H.U.N.K. it is mentioned at one point that HUNK's original name is Luke mentioned by "Goblin 6".
I'd love a standalone game featuring Hunk and maybe one other character but have the story focused on said specific mission rather than his past. Leave Hunks past to the imagination since that special unknown feels more unique
@@Richterdgf Boba Fett is cool too he's just there for a bit then he's gone. Hunk should have been a main stay in the Mercenaries Mode but he's not in RE5 or RE6.
I'm guessing his armor took inspiration from the Kerberos Panzer Cops from Wolf Brigade (you see renditions of that armor in other games as well). Coolest looking armor in all of media to me honestly. Hunk as a member of the Wolf Brigade would've been 🔥🔥🔥
They need to make a RE series that's only about him going throughout his life prior to him being an operative to him being in service all the way to RE2 and onward but strictly his pov. That has to be the only character that has the perspective of everything that's happened in RE that hasn't or will die that is so cool to play as.
Hunk was the only successful supersoldier attempt umbrella was able to make. He went up against Wesker in code Veronica and was about even with him. However Wesker was able to get the upper hand in the end.
Why did Mr X attack Hunk because isn't he basically in the same team? There is an old animation/cartoon that literally shows Hunk bringing the last sample to the factory at the end of RE3 and the sample tries to mutate and bunch of Tyran'ts help the soldiers subdue the mutation of the sample and that is why they also have the huge ass railgun there in the factory
As I’ve understood it and I could just be wrong in general, the tyrants mission was to kill any seen survivor in RC to prevent anything from getting out. It probably isnt as programmable as Nemesis or future tyrant models so he just attacks on sight regardless of who it is. That or its just a gameplay feature to make the 4th survivor mission that much more difficult
@@Ner0Rev0lver u are correct, this t- 103 had just the order to collect the sample as a last attempt, because if i remember correctly 4th survivor plays on the destruction day. alpha team got radio silent for over a week and umbrella assumed they are all dead, so they send first Mister X, who had the mission to kill every survivor he encounters in the police station and try to collect the sample. This failed so it was a last effort ditch to send a second tyrant to collect it, so the tyrant was not "programmed" to spare any USS soldiers.
Isn't Hunk already a legend when all the main protagonists of Resident evil series are rookies now all the original protagonists are OP now i doubt how much powerful he must have become as his whole life revolves around BOW missions.

Right? 😂
Tmk snafu generally is short for situation normal all effed up so it would fit in the case of killing an intended capture target
However, if you look closely, near the briefcase you can see the silhouette of a handgun when Birkin lies dead.

Definitely agree. Preserving the mysterious quality of HUNK is part of what makes him so special. I hope we get some more modes featuring him, though
@Rationale Decay Nah, because if you have HUNK as boss fight, you'll lose all mystery and cool factor about him, because you beat him. HUNK is an acronym for "Human Unit Never Killed."
It is rare how despite how other characters get new voices and actors. HUNK has the luxury of keeping his Voice consistent. The VA being Keith Silverstein. He's been voicing HUNK since RE:Mercenaries 3D.
HUNK also appeared in the videogame Lost Planet 3 with custom voice lines in a character pack of DLC.

For real. You can sense the frustration in him, but he's got nerves of steel, soldiering on ahead solely focused on the mission
HUNK's identity should remain a mystery because that's what makes him cool and interesting. If they do put him in future installments any background information about him should be drip fed to the audience. He's like the Ganado merchant in RE4. You don't need to know everything about him.
Exactly. Well said 💯
I would like a game focused around him but refuses to open up his origins. Just backround, or connections in the timeline, like training Jake or cleaning up RCPD's mess after the credits roll.
The only think I knew of HUNK,
was that he came back from every mission.
His legendary status got started because he's the only one who came back from assignments that were garonteed certain death.
It even spooked the government, that's why he's so mysterious.
HUNK is the guy you send in,
when it's too late to send anyone else.
I love how Hunk said ''WE had to take him out'', even after a screwup like that, he wouldnt expose one of his fellow soldiers.
What I liked about hunk is his potential to be a villain with him being just as capable as our cast of protagonists

It's so generic but so awesome. The only thing I would say is missing is the Splinter Cell-like drop down emerald night vision goggles.
Ghost from Call of Duty had a cool look but there is just so much more to it, this is simple and effective.
“This is war, survivals your responsibility.”
“Why’d you come back?”

Absolutely.
I agree with that. I think having a side chapter featuring HUNK would be great, as its brevity won't disrupt the allure he's established
I can never get over Hunk's little finger waggle after snapping a zombies neck
Never gets old 💯
One thing to bear in mind with hunk we question why he's so powerful but it may also be why he's always covered in gear a zombie hybrid.
I agree as well. If Birkin would have complied, I'm sure the events would be completely different and perhaps the city would still be around
We need a hunk game. He deserves his own story

RE8 had the BSAA sending bioweapon soldiers as a plot

That's a good thought!
That would be an epic reveal! Sign me up for that!

Hunk would be an interesting possibility as a midgame antagonist. Let's say he was sent to get something you have.
