Johnny was never captured by Arasaka. When he encounters Adam Smasher in the building, Smasher shoots him in half. Spider, the netrunner on the crew, slotted a shard that had the soulkiller program on it into Johnnys head before he took his dying breath. The visions we see of Johnny being carted out of the building and interrogated are either memories that were planted in Johnnys head, or they were completely fabricated by Johnny himself in the 50 years he was trapped in Mikoshi trying to make sense of how he could have possibly lost everything. Johnny is a narcissist, and there's tons of examples of him embelishing events throughout the game. Alt herself even tells you that you cant trust the things he tells you. Superb work!
Honestly, I am a history lover, so learning about stuff in the past and how things came to be and all that is just so interesting. So learning about the most important Cyberpunk history and lore just had me even more invested in the universe than I already was after playing the game
cyberpunk lore is that it gets worse, and then it gets worse, and then it gets worse, and then it gets worse, and then it gets worse (cool robotic implants)
Family, this was INCREDIBLE. Thanks for taking the immense amount of time required to flesh out all the written lore into a chronological timeline. Fair play, mate, you successfully chronicled almost 40 years of writing, and just added SO much to my understanding of the Cyberpunk '77 universe.
I'm not a huge lore nerd but I am a huge cyberpunk nerd. Man did this vid scratch a huge itch for me, cause Cyberpunk (the series) has such a crazy and wildly complex background that I can rarely ever scratch the surface of reading the sourcebooks before I need to move on to other things, but it's one of those things I've always wanted to know more about. This must've taken an insane amount of time to put together, kudos and thanks for doing so!
Have to say dude, the way you have edited this video, is truly impressive! Literally had me going "oh i know that game/movie/show!" All throughout! Yet you link them up with relevant times dates and places in the cyberpunk timeline. You managed to make it all connect together so well it feels like its footage from cp 2077's universe.. Seriously, well bloody done!
Thanks for a great overview of the story! It filled a lot of the gaps I had from only playing the game. By the way, 34:37 it’s CHOOH2, “O” as in oxygen, although such chemical molecule is not possible; not with our current technology, at least. However, a molecule with one less hydrogen IS possible. CHOOH is a formic acid, a basic carboxylic acid. The name is derived from the acid ants produced. In Latin, formica means an ant. Also, 56:12 his name is Kim Jong-il, not “the second”.
Formic acid exists only in dimers: (CHOOH)2 so the chemical formula would make physical sense this way. And there are fuel cells IRL that work on formic acid.
IDK if anyone4 caught this but The Pitt in Pittsburgh is also in fallout as well. Fallout Wiki: "The Pitt, nicknamed the Steel City,[1] City of Steel,[2] and the Gateway to the West[2] before the War, is a raider-dominated city built in the ruins of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania"
As brillant as ever ;) Yet 2 mistakes : Dorio wasn't kill by Maine, but died taking a bullet for him, bullet shot by a NCPD officer (the scene yet might be confusing). from the crew, only Lucy and Falco survived, as David dies covering their flight. Minor points really, in comparaison to the troumendous work done here 🙏
David also might have been hit by soulkiller, the last thing Smasher says to David was "You could prove an interesting construct" I think David's resilience to cyberpsychosis means Arasaka probably wants his engram
@@thomasfitzpatrick8077nah, smasher had a bit of respect and David said he didn’t care about becoming a construct so he killed him off before arasaka could get their mittens on him
My favourite part of cyberpunk lore is how the entire world is constantly rocked by devastating financial collapses and disasters with incredible frequency yet somehow there's never labour shortages or supply chain disruptions that would stop massive construction and technology projects
Absolute brilliant! Thanks! One thing I'm curious to know more about is how cyberware came to be as prolific as it is; how it all started and how it evolved throughout the timeline.
Honestly I think that was thanks to the war, a reason why I think we’ll have similar cybernetics is thanks to the neuralink, with it, it can pair both your brain and a cybernetic arm thus making it part of you.
Thank you WiseFish for your hard work. You definitely deserve many more subscribers and i hope your future is better than the Cyberpunk world.😆 I just finished Cyberpunk 2077 a few days ago. So this video came out at great time. I can't wait to see your videos on the Cyberpunk dlc expansion.
I love the game, it has it's ups and downs from a technical standpoint, but the story is just amazing. One of these worlds that feels too real at some time, and to think that we might be just a century or so off...
This video was very informative and well arranged. My favorite part of this video is that it managed to put into a clearer perspective how terrifying Adam Smasher is for ending the lives of a few NC's legends, and how BADASS it is that our V to be able to take him down, while being handicapped by suffering from the Relic's side effect! Hail V!
God the graphics and art direction from 0:01 to 1:39 is so amazing, what a city they've created I wish they had made like 5 expansions for this game not just one :( :(
Reminder that them talking about putting your 'soul' into digital form and whatnot isn't real, nobody's 'soul' is in their mainframe. It's an imprint of your personality and memories. It's literally the same as if you trained a modern day Ai on someone, included a lot of details about them, and then told that Ai it was in fact, that person. It's not them, it's data told how to act like them.
Eh, same same. If it looks like me, talks like me, thinks like me, has all my memories, believes itself to be me, I'm calling it me, especially if my body is dead. After all, what is our personality but data stored on a biological computer?
We're getting there bud. We already have prosthetic limbs that amputees can operate with the remaining muscle clusters from the amputation location. Neuralink allowed a quadriplegic guy to play League of Legends. Give it another 15-20 years we'll get there.
The next game whenever it comes out needs to have more nomad clans and more corporations, because just from listening to the video there are more moving parts in this cyberpunk universe then just two corporations, and they also need to bring in more interesting and unique characters like they had in the cyberpunk anime and comic, it's a lot of potential here where they can do a lot of games and spinoffs and hell even a anime series.
And make it set in some new city somewhere in the world. Not just some dystopian Californian city. But somewhere like New York. Miami. Rio de Janeiro. Europe. Africa. Japan somewhere.
Thank you so much for the time and effort you put into this! ❤I‘ve entered the Cyberpunk universe with the game, and always wondered how this world became what it is in the game.

First time watching this and I can honestly say, this is a fascinating video about a wonderful game and a terrifying world CD Projekt Red created. Thank you so much for all of your efforts. It's time for jumping into the game again!
CD Project did create 2077 and the map / world of 2077 there of, but the world of Cyberpunk was created by Mike Pondsmith. Mike wrote the first pen and paper Cyberpunk in 1988 (later reknown as cyberpunk 2013 when Cyberpunk 2020 released in 1990.)
@@itsCobbi No Problem. Mike is a real swell guy, and i'm happy as hell for him that his world and universe got to be made in viddeogame form by CD Projekt.
For whatever reason, CDPR changed V's birth year to 2053 in the 2.0 update. Useless change, since I think V being 27/28 makes so much more sense, but yeah.

Thank you for making this legendary piece of content for us cyberpunk fans. I always look out for your new stuff and I can’t wait til the Orion videos flood my home page ! Take it easy, thank you, and take care choom!
1:57:54 very tiny nit pick Maine did not kill Dorio. if you watch the scene closely. she slips past his shots at her. gives him his meds and he comes to seeing he was actually shooting at Dorio. then the cops shoot her from behind. knowing this it is actually even worse because he wasn't in a cyberpsychosis state when he had to watch her die because she cared more for him then herself.
When I was in the gym the other day someone said I looked like Adam smasher. Didn’t know who he was till now. Don’t know if I should feel insulted or not
I just found this and totally enjoyed it as it gave alot of backstory to the game that I was not aware of. I like the game myself, but watching this made alot of things make much more sense. Thanks for the awesome video.
Me, with a pacemaker and the nickname “robo sis” from my brother: cybernetics seem so distant. So impossibly distant. There’s no way a machine that’s permanently working with your body for health reasons could exist - let alone for combat.
Medical purposes is where it starts. Restoring organ function, new limbs, making the blind see, curing diabetes. After that then we start adding weapons. Your pacemaker in the future could end up becoming Iron-Man's arc reactor, and then you can blast people with repulsor rays if they get too close.
I'm not a fan of RPGs and with the terrible state Cyberpunk 2077 was released I skipped on this one, but as many thank to Edgerunners I was captivated by this world, and after suffering through this game on console, I can say it was one of the most beautiful stories I ever experienced in videogames, to me, in the same level of MGS 3 or Max Payne 2, but I am surprised how deep this lore goes, no wonder CDPR wanted to license it, it is amazing and I really love how it without any fear mixed real events, countries and organizations and was able to chracterize them in a very believable way, it is incredible.
You know, the cause of the crash of '94 is terrifyingly similar to a certain country. Yes, that country that was recently exposed to have waaay less GDP than what it said to the world. The She Jim Ping land.

I was halfway through the other one. On my way to work, I went to finish it, and nothing there was big sad. I'm glad it's back. Hopefully, still here in the morning so I can watch it!! Great video. Thanks for all the hard work!!
Thank you for your dedication! RUclips sucks for this..
I already watched the first upload lol lets go for the second!
When was the first one uploaded?
As a budding RUclipsr focusing on photography and cinematography, I have ridiculously high respect for you for making anything this long. My videos average about 8-9 minutes long and the work that goes into THOSE is a lot. I can’t imagine your workflow and talents to make a damn movie-length video and have it all fit together so well.
And there are fuel cells IRL that work on formic acid.
he probably saw it written as “Il”
IDK if anyone4 caught this but The Pitt in Pittsburgh is also in fallout as well.
Fallout Wiki:
"The Pitt, nicknamed the Steel City,[1] City of Steel,[2] and the Gateway to the West[2] before the War, is a raider-dominated city built in the ruins of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania"
Thanks, I thought I was the only one to get this
He even used modded fallout 3 gameplay when he was talking about it lol
The main reason i found this video was for that answer specifically
Honestly I think that was thanks to the war, a reason why I think we’ll have similar cybernetics is thanks to the neuralink, with it, it can pair both your brain and a cybernetic arm thus making it part of you.
Thank you WiseFish for your hard work. You definitely deserve many more subscribers and i hope your future is better than the Cyberpunk world.😆
I just finished Cyberpunk 2077 a few days ago. So this video came out at great time. I can't wait to see your videos on the Cyberpunk dlc expansion.
bro i swear this was the best nap on yt video
Something tells me you don't particularly like Prince Andrew.
I love the game, it has it's ups and downs from a technical standpoint, but the story is just amazing.
One of these worlds that feels too real at some time, and to think that we might be just a century or so off...
17:13 Juan's story is basically what happened to David, damn.
This actually made the universe make a ton more sense for me. Thank yeh.
Hopefully this one stays up :). Love your work.
Me too! Thanks for checking it out dude!
Hail V!
As a born and raised californian I found it very funny to hear that LA actually gets hit by the "big one" earthquake.
God the graphics and art direction from 0:01 to 1:39 is so amazing, what a city they've created I wish they had made like 5 expansions for this game not just one :( :(
There is going to be a sequel
@@vwilhelm5788 unfortunately not for at least another 4 years
@@justwes1240hey, at least it will be finished at launch
@@AHHHHHHHH21 we can only hope
Reminder that them talking about putting your 'soul' into digital form and whatnot isn't real, nobody's 'soul' is in their mainframe. It's an imprint of your personality and memories. It's literally the same as if you trained a modern day Ai on someone, included a lot of details about them, and then told that Ai it was in fact, that person.
It's not them, it's data told how to act like them.
Yeah there's no real mind uploading. Alt, Johny, etc. are all dead already and V dies in every ending except for the Tower.
Eh, same same. If it looks like me, talks like me, thinks like me, has all my memories, believes itself to be me, I'm calling it me, especially if my body is dead. After all, what is our personality but data stored on a biological computer?
Just finished edgerunners, this was exactly what i was looking for. Very good writing and ty for the vid :)
Sad thing is, this is exactly where we are going..
Without the cool augmentations.
If aliens actually had lend their advanced technology, we would really lean cyberpunk
We're getting there bud. We already have prosthetic limbs that amputees can operate with the remaining muscle clusters from the amputation location. Neuralink allowed a quadriplegic guy to play League of Legends. Give it another 15-20 years we'll get there.
This was incredibly interesting for me as a notorious text log ignorer. Thanks for putting this together.
1:27:35 A LOT to unpack here. Gonna come back to finish the last hour. Pretty solid lore. Well done.
@@elperrodelautumo7511Moscow and Hong Kong
They knew technology was going to improve. This was like a prototype.
I would like the next game be in the 2020 or the 90s
1:24:18 I don´t see anything wrong with that period of history,is just the balkans being balkans
Thank you so much for the time and effort you put into this! ❤I‘ve entered the Cyberpunk universe with the game, and always wondered how this world became what it is in the game.
For some reason I don't know why i really enjoy these alternative/fictional histories like Cyberpunk and Fallout. It's really interesting.
Such a fantastic video, this took me like a week to actually watch and absorb so I can’t imagine how much work went into this. Thanks man, you’re awesome.
There are a couple of minor mistakes I noticed, but overall, this is an incredible video. Really useful for me as a GM for Cyberpunk RED.
I like how you don’t point out the mistakes yet included it in your criticism lmao
@@SubaruOutback-gi6jn Right. The point wasn't criticism. It was praise for the usefulness of the video. Maybe learn to read with context lmao
@@charleswhitehurst7635 if it wasn’t criticism then why include it? And context is irrelevant when it’s all typed out - zero context missing
@@SubaruOutback-gi6jn he can still include it to let someone know
Hell yea man! My friends are a bit new to the setting and we're gonna give Cyberpunk RED a go, this will be a great primer and help for them! Thanks for your awesome efforts!
So, for those who don't have time to watch here's a TLDW: "And then, it got worse"
1:42:42 ain’t no way bro just called it a 9-1-1 like it’s the police oml 😭😭💀
This channel is a goldmine for every gamer ❤
Thanks for the reupload!! Can't wait to watch it later.
No worries I hope you get to watch it fully this time!
I have been aware of the Cyberpunk 2077 realm since a couple of years before the release of the PC game. Life has sadly prevented me from engaging with said game. Now 2/3rds of the way through this video, I just wanted to stop and say just how incredible both your effort AND the CP2077 world are!! Kudos, and thanks!!
Try it out if you get time this year!!
To be fair, a lot of this stuff came from the TTRPG which predated the video game.
Just finished this game for the first time after waiting years until I could play it properly on ps5 and the first half of this video makes me wanna play it all over again a crazy world they’ve created wow
Small correction: Maine didn't kill Dario, she was shot in the head by MAXTac because she was distracted trying to inject Maine with an immunosuppressant to control his cyberpsychosis. He was indirectly responsible for her death, but he didn't kill her.
A cop not maxtac Dario was already dead before max tac arrived
This is so in-depth and detailed, thank you so much for making this, quite the ride.
This was amazing! Perfect video to watch before Phantom Liberty.
Just starting Cyberpunk 2077 and this was a real eye opener. Thank you for an excellent job!
Love the straight-up putting Prince Andrew on blast, sir! Very well done! Great job with the timeline as well! Great video!
I love that you used Fallout 3 for the Pitt. I never knew Cyberpunk had its own Pitt
@@rednekzombie2988 i didn't know that! Thank you for this info! :)
@@itsCobbi No Problem. Mike is a real swell guy, and i'm happy as hell for him that his world and universe got to be made in viddeogame form by CD Projekt.
Watching this to hype myself for tomorrow's phantom liberty expansion. Finally going to play again.
56:09 Kim Jong the second? Don't you mean Kim Jong Il, that is capital "i" and lowercase "L".
For whatever reason, CDPR changed V's birth year to 2053 in the 2.0 update. Useless change, since I think V being 27/28 makes so much more sense, but yeah.
Its wild to think how much can be done within this universe. Ixm ezcited for the next one. Cyberpunk 2077 os my favorite game 9f all time. Thank you for this video. Extremely well done.
02:48 Me??!
A wonderful recital of the full timeline! I’d probably only be able to recall a few details, as I was driving in my car as I was listening, but it was very entertaining. You also have a great narrating voice!
Now this is what i call binge watching
Cyberpunk has become one of my fav games of all time. It’s like the perfect mix of fallout meets GTA, and those are 2 of my fav game series already. Plus with the whole futuristic and punk aesthetic as the cherry on top. I come back and listen to this video all the time cause I just love this universe and world that’s been created and that you can be a part of. Thank you for making this legendary piece of content for us cyberpunk fans. I always look out for your new stuff and I can’t wait til the Orion videos flood my home page ! Take it easy, thank you, and take care choom!
The idea of King Charles charging in to battle alongside Prince Andrew and dying is... wild.
Holy shit! Finally all of the info in one place, Thanks a lot❤️🔥
By the time we get to 2077, at this rate, I think we'll be wishing it was more like Cyberpunk.
When I was in the gym the other day someone said I looked like Adam smasher. Didn’t know who he was till now. Don’t know if I should feel insulted or not
What a journey! Props for covering so much ground!
The day has arrived. TIME TO PARTY LIKE IT'S 2023!
I just found this and totally enjoyed it as it gave alot of backstory to the game that I was not aware of. I like the game myself, but watching this made alot of things make much more sense. Thanks for the awesome video.
Wait, so Johnny was 15 when he was in the second Central American war and got his arm blown up? Talk about an early bloomer
I love this Vid, awesome timeline, really good analysis and everything important on spot explained and your timeline builds up from zero to 100
Me, with a pacemaker and the nickname “robo sis” from my brother: cybernetics seem so distant.
I'm happy you included clips from my two favorite games. Of course Cyberpunk and Mass Effect... that was a nice Easter Egg
I'm not a fan of RPGs and with the terrible state Cyberpunk 2077 was released I skipped on this one, but as many thank to Edgerunners I was captivated by this world, and after suffering through this game on console, I can say it was one of the most beautiful stories I ever experienced in videogames, to me, in the same level of MGS 3 or Max Payne 2, but I am surprised how deep this lore goes, no wonder CDPR wanted to license it, it is amazing and I really love how it without any fear mixed real events, countries and organizations and was able to chracterize them in a very believable way, it is incredible.
your storytelling is amazing
You know, the cause of the crash of '94 is terrifyingly similar to a certain country. Yes, that country that was recently exposed to have waaay less GDP than what it said to the world. The She Jim Ping land.
Watching this on august 20th 2023 hits different
So wait, if Johnny was born in 1988, and he was touring with Samurai by 2004, he lost an arm and deserted the military at like14-15 years old?!
Loved the first video, great work choom
It's back!
I guess I could watch it again.... ☺
Haha appreciate it dude!
Thank God people like you exist because I haven't read the shards but always wanted to know the lore.
so many of these events in the Cyberpunk universe are happening irl.
Wake the fuck up, Samurai. We have a lore video to watch.
S-tier content as always bro 👍
i love the lore of this game so much the creators of cyberpunk did an amazing job creating the world and as glitchy as cyberpunk 2077 is its a nice addition to the world and lore
It got patched up like crazy since it's glitchy days.
@@mregdosz ya it's come along way since release I play it on the original ps4 which still has some problems the last major patch was 1.6 but I'm sure for newer consoles that it works better
