If you upload an older video like this it would maybe be worth it to mention it in the title like "classic patreon unlock" or something like that. I guess at the end of the day it doesnt really matter, personally I was just confused why you would blur out spoiler so long after the game came out.
literally three years later? isn't that a little much? not really relevant anymore, the consensus by the general public of this remake is positive partially because you never released this to said public. there was exactly one critical video that came out at that time as i recall. if re4 remake is bad, well it won't be your fault, but you didn't exactly help by essentially suppressing your own criticism and for so long. i mean you're entitled to pick and choose how your work is done and monetized, just - if you wanted the other remakes to be any different, it's a bit late, could've left this in the patreon vault after all.
@@mbrillon765 consider this video is watched by a small minority of resident evil fans. not general consumers, fans. already resident evil fans are a smaller slice of the general consumer pie, and at this point especially most of the people who'd watch a video that was critical of it would be people like within those niches upon niches looking to reinforce their own biases. i thought re3make was shit, especially coming as remake of what i consider to be one of the greatest games of all time (last escape/nemesis). that doesn't make my opinion the common one, most people aren't even comparing them and even if they are the old game is a niche genre with a niche and controversial control scheme while the remake is more like, lowest common denominator style. fans aren't the audience and it's not looked upon poorly. fans like us are just vocal
Gotta love that the "You want S.T.A.R.S?" line is placed in the remake in such a way that it's possible for Nemesis to immediately punch you and interrupt it.
TBF the new nemesis doesn't say "STARS" a whole lot. He says it like 5 times total and then turns into a dog in his 2ndform. "You want STARS?" made sense in the OG because he kept saying it over&over&over like a robot until the very end of the game where he falls into acid.
@beef business The reason for its placement is likely because the line wasn’t in OG3’s Japanese script. So, the RE:3 localization team just put it in a different place as a cute reference
Capcom put the gas station and mercenaries in the re2 remake . but i really dont understand why capcom and fans prefer leon and claire before Jill and cris, the preference about re2 over re1 and re3 shocks me
I think that Jill's new "action heroine" attitude is what made Nemesis less of a threat(also his lack of presence). In the original, she would go mute ,or say oh no, he is back during some cutscenes. She was actually scared of Nemesis as with Brad's death she saw what he was capable of. Her "I'll give you STARS" line works perfectly because it's the end of the game and both the player and Jill are tired and fed up with him. By that moment Jill was no longer scared of him as he became a pathetic lump of flesh rather than an unstoppable monster. The new Jill calls him a bitch in the first 20 minutes or less time of gameplay. How is the player supposed to be scared of him if the character we play as doesn't think of him as dangerous.
That's a very good observation. He's a terrifying rival in the OG, and Jill treats him like one. Meanwhile he's a scripted annoyance in the remake, and Jill also treats him like one
That is an interesting observation, but that’s just not how I felt in the game. Although the opening scenes are pretty much the only time Nemesis is treated like he’s scary. That scene treats him like a terminator that even your tough cop protagonist is and would be scared of. The key issue with Nemesis is that the player doesn’t develop much of a relationship with him because he doesn’t show up in dynamic gameplay. In this game Nemesis is a repeated boss. He’s not hunting you down like Jack Baker and making you feel unsafe as you do normal stuff. Sometimes you get a key item and you can predict that is when Nemesis will show up for the next scripted chase … that isn’t scary
Agreed. I don't like Jill's modern feminist attitude in REmake 3, at all. Her not-scared reaction to Nemesis took away the scariness that was supposed to be Nemesis. Also, Nemesis never once said his iconic "S.T.A.R.S." in REmake 3. It's disappointing.
Yeah, when Leon does that sort of thing in RE4 it makes sense. Beyond already going through this experience once before Leon has also undergone extreme levels of military combat training for 6 years since Raccoon City, which has made him much tougher both mentally and physically thus he isn't as easily shook as before. Jill however only got over things at the Mansion after a couple of weeks thus would still be shook up and afraid of something like Nemisis.
I'm sure I'm not the only person who was hyped to play this game because of the expectations Mr X brought. Not making Nemesis an upgraded version of RE2make's Mr X is one of the biggest dropped-the-ball moments in the series.
Apparently wikipedia says that when the director of this game saw what they were doing with Mr X in RE2 remake he felt that if he made it similar in Nemesis, where Nemesis was someone who could unpredictably attack at any time, players wouldn't feel the same amount of surprise, so he decided to focus on giving Nemesis a more varied moveset and attacks in the encounters he did have... but I think that with hindsight, a LOT of people would've preferred he really did just iterate on Mr X.
@@ahmadabdelmawla5405 yet Capcom has done the pursuer thing both before Mr. X and after him (with Jack Baker and Dimetrescu), Nemesis was the original pursuer, he should be the one to pursue the player, not be relegated to set piece dispenser
PS1 games were developed for a platform where it was economically feasible to do a game with 1 to 1 and a half years of dev time that STILL looked like it was high-class AAA, compared to a team working on what seems to be a sideproject with a LOT of reused graphical elements from Resi2. Won't say it wasn't greedy of tem to take full price for it, but I am saying one shouldn't be surprised at the lack of complexity and variety in modern games- that's just the price we pay for shiny graphics.
Because that original game had to earn its audience. The branching story paths were to make up for the fact there’s only really one main character, as was the implementation of the Nemesis enemy type. The RE3 remake had an in-built audience of suckers (like me) carried over from the RE2 remake who just wanted more. RE3 remake? Shut up and take my money! 🤦♂️ The remake was outsourced because financially it didn’t need to be a quality game. It just needed to be serviceable enough for a release. I feel cheated but I should have listened to my gut as a consumer
@@akaroth7542 That final lab section in the remake was clearly just a bland generic “whatever” area that did not fit the tone, atmosphere or specifically the 1998 time period in which the game is supposed to be set. Looked more like a futuristic Tesla factory or an Apple Store.
@@holy9781 and? you spent maybe ten minutes on the streets of raccoon city in the original re2 whereas the entire first half of re3 was spent exploring the city. what a dumb argument.
They need a new game focused on raccoon city. Not a remake. It's clear players miss the city and umbrella. Why not tell a new story there that took place at the same time?
Unfortunately Capcom decided to outsource and rush RE3 remake. It's a shame because with enough time and effort it could have been incredible. I think the game was a victim of releasing before RE4 remake, which has clearly has had a lot more money and manpower pumped into it. The RE2 remake dev team jumped straight to RE4 remake, while RE3 remake was basically an afterthought. And I'd be shocked if Capcom will ever touch Code Veronica.
REmake 4 was being developed outside Capcom too, Capcom was putting all their focus on RE8. After this game's reception, they scrapped that version of REmake 4, and started development in-house.
I do hope after RE4, Capcom takes a break from Resident Evil for a few years. Its been a little tiring seeing them push one big RE project out that either comes half baked or extremely good…
I wish we also just got ports of the originals alongside the remakes. One thing that always rubs me the wrong way with remakes is that they tend to be treated as replacements for the originals. Which i cant disagree with more
@@ryantheradical why would it? RE4 has been ported to hell and back to every imaginable platform since its release. even if the Remake sucks there's no way the original would ever become lost or unavailable
At this point I'm convinced the team that worked on this remake never actually played the original. There's no way you can cut THIS much content and do iconic characters dirty
I mean, they messed up Jill as a character so bad. Probably it's gonna be the same in new movie looking how that new Jill Valentine seems to be pushed as canon replacement of real Jill. I'm not saying it might be bad, all i'm complaining about is complete character overhaul of her personality, also for some reason they kept her RE3R design instead of something different for example how she would look after RE5 maybe if she died her hair back and actually would wear something Jill would wear at the mission rather than her casual outfit she never would wear on any mission. Sure i might be nitpicking but that's still what i think and my personal opinion.
You know re2r cut a lot of content as well. Moth boss fight is gone, b scenario is a clone of the a scenario, and the zapping system is gone. Don't pretend it only happened in re3r.
@@arkhamasylum8972Nobody pretends that this only happens in RE3. Yes, RE2 removes the moth (it wasn't a boss fight), the zapping system and proper B scenario is gone. But RE3 Remake cuts almost half of the original game. Uptown Raccon City is not exploreable, Werehouse isnt exploreable, Stagla isnt exploreable, Jack bar isnt exploreable, Stagla isnt exploreable, press office is gone, sales office is gone, several streets in uptown and downtown Raccon city disappeared. Not to mention much larger areas like the Clock Tower, the outskirts of Raccoon City, the park, and the dead factory. They removed "live selection outcomes". And there are still a lot of other things, like some enemies (spiders, brain suckers, gravedigger, Nicholai helicopter boss fight).
At least there was still gore in 3R. You could still blow the heads, legs and arms off of the zombies. Unlike RE8, which only gave you the ability to shoot the heads off of the Lycan enemies. You couldn’t even shoot the heads of the Moroaica enemies.
That’s the only real thing that gets me like fine you want to take some locations and enemies an boss battles out whatever I guess but atleast keep the rag doll/ blood and gore physics from the re2make
@@77jamess The gore system in Village bothered me with how boring it was. This is Resident Evil, Capcom, the game is allowed to be as visceral as possible.
Really can't help but agree with the sentiment that this game was an obligation more than anything else, especially with how fast it came out after RE2 Remake and how much longer the wait for RE4 Remake has been in comparison A real missed oppourtunity, because the game is overall competent and not lacking in spectacle otherwise
Looking at what released in 2020, that was an incredibly slow year for Capcom. They had the Megaman Zero collection and Street Fighter 5 Champion Edition release in February and then RE3 came out in April and they were done. So I guess in that context, they needed something for 2020 and they quickly slapped together a Resident Evil game using assets from RE2. I’m sure most of the RE team was already working on Village, so it all led to what we got today: a very middling experience that cuts a lot of corners with a multiplayer mode bolted onto it. Which sucks considering Village was a great game but the RE4 remake is coming out next month which will undermine Village because they’re pretty similar games which means RE3 was rushed for nothing.
It was a financial obligation for Capcom and their shareholders yeah. RE2 remake was a huge success to they charged ahead with a meagre product in RE3 knowing full well that the audience of RE2 were on-board, and pre-orders confirmed that
@@Ckoz2829 It makes me wish it was just cancelled, or at least scaled down to just be a dlc expansion for RE2 Remake, maybe only featuring the city streets section
I believe it's because they do not properly handle the partnering system. I think it's better if the person who pick the lock was Jill rather than Tyrell, that would make the Alpha Nemesis parasite make more sense if we later found Brad zombies were infected by Nemesis.
Would’ve been better for Jill to enter the police station first to call in for backup much like in the original; i wanted to have Nemesis break the wall that you see in remakes 2 and 3 in the shower room. Then once jill leaves the station is when she gets rescued by Carlos.
Yeah, me too. Nemesis was sent into Raccoon City to kill S.T.A.R.S. members and ends up not killing a single one in the remake. He utterly failed in his mission in this version...lol
yes and no, I like the new voice and tone but he loses his seriousness like OG carlos had, yes 99 carlos instantly came off flirty in the middle of an apocalypse but quickly changed tone immediately afterwards, 2020 carlos yes he comes off more serious tone but damn was he spouting out one liners left and right. but yeah Carlos is definitely the MVP in RE3R. only other saving grace is the Speedrunning side of the game as not too much can go wrong EXCEPT final Nemesis.
My biggest complaint is that they completely removed the iconic clock tower, why Capcom decided to replace this with expanded sewers and a larger hospital is beyond my comprehension and was poor judgment
The clock tower, a level that needs to be modeled, textured, lit, populated AND tested, versus the RPD Station, which already went through all that. Or the sewers and labs, both levels which already had assets and textures made for them
@@DeepPoeticSociety I think what happened is they made a serious miss call on how much three was actually loved by the fans. If I understand correctly they didn't even make it themselves, they had the people who made Gears Of War work on it while a team who made the second remake were immediately Shuffled on to making the 4th one. I don't know if this is true but I totally believe the Gears Of War thing because that explains so much about what happened with three ....
@@cinemascenes2010 If they weren't gonna remake the game then they shouldn't have called it a remake. Believe it or not, 5 hour games aren't usually worth 60 dollars either.
@Cinema Scenes A remake is taking everything the original did and improving on it, you only cut out stuff if it was truly awful. But this remake cut out a lot of stuff that could have been improved on in the original and it's way shorter for that.
the saddest part to me is that even though its widely considered a failure of a remake and a disappointing title in general, its not like we are going to get another attempt anytime in the near future. id still really like to see a quality remake of RE3 but i feel like at this point we'll have to wait another 20 years for that to happen :/
@@nisnast thats probably true. the worst part for me is that major review outlets (other than a few like gamespot with semi-competent writing staff) actually gave the game high marks and praised it. i didn't even play the original game growing up and even as a standalone game i found it extremely anemic and disappointing
Spoiler, acting like this game is bad isn't helping your cause. Especially when the game it's a remake of is one of the most poorly received classic re games and was objectively a quick cash in Capcom made to free themselves from the ps1 so they could make code Veronica which is the real Resident Evil 3.
Honestly if they just added like 4 or so more chapters id be giving this game a 5/5. It's just too short is my biggest gripe, but otherwise the anesthetic, mechanics, and art direction in this remake are top notch and carry me through and through
What I was disappointed in this remake the most was the removal of the rogue-like features of each playthrough. The original used to have instances where certain areas will have changed enemies, items, or Nemesis encounters each time you play the game. It basically makes every run personalized for each person and keeps the tension high, since you'll never expect what's around the corner. The remake removing this feature makes the playthrough more homogenized and samey, and kinda lessens what terror you would have felt otherwise.
I think a lot of RE3 Remake's missteps can be seen in the few missteps of RE2 Remake, which didn't do the multiple storylines. A lot of what made RE2 unique from RE1 and 3 were the Leon/Clare A/B storylines, but these were clearly sacrificed during development which focused instead on its third-person shooter gameplay loop. The developers seemed to think just a character select and slightly different cutscenes like RE1 was the same thing. So, instead of really looking at the original RE3 and understanding how and why it worked, they did the same thing: take their core TPS gameplay and give it a fresh coat of RE3 inspired assets. No branching gameplay paths, so Nemesis just appears at set points with cutscenes. RE2 Remake almost seems like a happy accident where they could focus their attention on a handful of locations, and so had to reuse them more than RE3 could which needed a lot more disconnected set pieces. I'm sure if Nemesis was allowed to run around a large and expansive area for an extended period of time he would have been received better. Instead the player only goes through each part once or twice, to and from, and Nemesis is dropped in at major moments to look impressive, but not much more than that.
A lot of people have treated the og nemesis as if it’s some sort of lesser B side to the og re2, that wasn’t the case for the original but for the remakes it definitely is, they kinda made that a reality over at capcom
You can tell when someone didn't play OG 3 when they say "3 was an expansion because it reused everything", which is just wrong, the only thing shared is the RPD, where you only spend 10 minutes or less in the original 3. Weapons, zombie animations, models, and even locations, they're very different.
@@SenorGuinaOutside of the RPD, RE3 doesn't have anything shared with 2. Not to mention, RE3 has a score in the 90s on metacritic , so the difference in reception is very low.
speaking of the lore I can't stand the whole argument that 'Code Veronica was the reeaal RE3'. CV kinda tries and fails to continue the story, but at least Nemesis concludes the trilogy by telling us what happens to Raccoon city. It was a unsettling ending and I kinda liked it that way. Code Veronica started the trend in which RE turned into these repetitive action adventures fighting BOWs and supervillains around the globe. I kinda like to pretend that the canon story ended with RE3. Everything that came out afterwards felt less grounded
This game is not a remake, it's RE2R DLC. You can even access it or its store page through RE2R's main menu. They just gave it its own physical copy and sold it separately. It's fine, but it could have been legendary.
same with the trophy listings in RE2R as well where you had to find Jills letter in Kendos gunshop y'know much like finding Leons Letter in Claires run and hers in Leons run. and honestly if it was just a $30 DLC then yeah i'd definitely understand the short areas.
Nemesis was the star (no pun) of the show in the original, he was the ultimate pursuer, playing the original as a kid I feared him and yet respected him. When I first played the R2make I thought to myself that if Mr. X was this relentless, just imagine how Nemesis will be and thus we got the R3make and what a let down in overall quality of the game compared to the original and especially Nemesis. I genuinely hope we get a directors cut, out-of-bounds of the R3make shows that the clocktower was fully modeled. AND if there is a directors cut, please oh PLEASE expand the city and let it be more explorable, that's also one of the original's strongest identity aside from Nemesis.
Agreed. The title of the original was RE3: Nemesis, that indicates that Nemesis was indeed the star of the show. Also, I agree that exploration was the 2nd strongest point of the original. I remember going from Jill's apartment to the train station to the clock tower to the graveyard to the hospital and then to another of Umbrella's facility. The locations in the original were well-detailed.
I really do not like this game. It feels like the antithesis of the original. The original placed a strong emphasis on giving the player huge options, while the remake is determined to take them away.
@@neamraven like what ammo you wanna make, whether you should stick with that for the enhanced ammo or try to get more powerful stuff immediately, what routes to take, whether to fight Nemmy for his drop, etc etc
@@zeporion6091 Superfluous. It offers a bit more than the remake, but it's not some huge deal. The remake, on the other hand, offers similar stuff with the bonus difficulties and the shop. And the gameplay is a lot better, with a sick ass dodge and good boss fights. Both games have their pros and cons.
You can change the guns on PC to their 3: Nemesis counterparts, balancing tweaks and all. I know it's not much as it isn't official, but it's better than nothing :) The mod is called "Classic Weapons Pack" on NexusMods. (For those curious, it adds the Magnum Revolver, STI Eagle 6.0, Merc's Handgun, Western Custom and a few others)
The things that make Resi 3 unique (and the best game in the PS1 trilogy, don't @ me) in my mind are the branching paths, the RNG, expanded action gameplay, and just getting to explore Raccoon City. Sure, the branching paths don't diverge that much; the randomization doesn't impact the game in a real meaningful way aside from pissing off speedrunners; the expanded action gameplay brings just as much jank as it does depth; and the city is tiny and mostly linear. But put together they give the game so much flavor and make it stand out super hard in the series. These are the things a good remake would polish and amplify to make a whole game out of. And they are All things the Remake we got absolutely botched or completely took out, which is just absolutely frustrating as a Nemesis fan. Worst of all is the dodge which just turns the game into a joke on lower difficulties.
According to wikipedia, the branching paths at least were removed because they wanted to put the focus on one single storyline that gelled more with the overall story- trim the fat and make it so there aren't a bunch of alternate threads, make things fit together better. Kinda feels like that was a solution to an issue only Capcom had, but not the fans...
@@goranisacson2502 sounds like bullshit, they certainly didn't care about the scenarios in RE2R gelling together and actually making sense. they were just lazy and wanted to make a quick buck.
Resident Evil 3 looking like such a rush job is what made me uneasy about 4 remake. That game's appeal is almost entirely in the gameplay, level design and pacing, so if they chopped out large chunks of it and replaced it with segments made out of Village assets or whatever, I was afraid there was no way they could live up to the original. I feel a lot better about it after they've straight up shown several recognizable areas from the original with new elements around the corners of it.
In regards to RE4, Capcom said they listened to fan’s complaints about RE3 Remake and took extra precautions to ensure that doesn’t happen again. They just had an interview where they said they kept everything in the game and expanded on it. They had 3 teams working on each main location and then came together to figure out how to organically connect them.
@@SuperNeos2 they really need to go back and revisit 3 at some point and release a proper definitive edition with little to no cut content whatsoever and expand on the original game
The moment that probably best captures my conflicting feelings on the game is the sequence where Nemesis chases Jill up to the rooftops with the flamethrower. While the fight itself was fun, part of that experience was spoiled by the lead up to it being a very on rails "chase" sequence with no real interactivity or even threat. I actually don't mind Nemmy being less of a "random chance" threat throughout the game, but if you want to do the character concept justice then that same kind of split second decision making on how to deal with him when he does show up still needs to be represented somewhere.
You mean when Nemesis grabs Jill by the head, points his flamethrower at Jill, then just lets her leisurely jog away? 😂 There’s just absolutely zero threat at all. This isn’t a game section. It’s just an interactive CG movie that can barely justify its own existence.
A technical aspect of REmake 3 that I enjoyed was the dodge mechanic. It is incredibly satisfying to pull off perfect dodges in that game and makes Nemesis encounters feel all the more snappy. The way time slows down and your aiming snaps to the enemy’s weak point feels like a good reward. You can tell this game has Platinum written all over it as they had advertised. The director of this remake worked on games like God Hand, Vanquish, and of course original Resident Evil 1-4.
@@unicorntomboy9736 I think the parry mechanic was enough. Anything more than that would've been broken. You can also technically dodge in RE4 by ducking, it's quite difficult to pull off though.
You hit the nail on the head regarding RE3's "small Rubik's cubes levels" and how these are less satisfying than the big ones in RE2. This is the prime reason RE3 is a weaker game; it felt like it had so much filler and less engaging content because it kept switching up the location. This led to pretty half-baked sections like the Carlos in RPD level.
Yeah, it's better to stay in one location and backtrack for three hours instead of having new and exciting locations because fuck variety. Also tone and theme apparently mean nothing and every RE game should be a slow crawling backtracker filled with lame puzzles.
@@neamraven It's survival horror, dude not an action game or a shooter game. Plus, conquering those big backtracking areas feels rewarding and interesting rather than some hallways_with_zombies.jpeg s.
@@Trisaaru You might want to check again. RE is not just survival horror, it's action horror. RE was never Silent Hill. And RE3R is not full on action like RE6. It's a nice balance between the more action oriented titles and the horror oriented titles.
@@Trisaaru Play the first RE game again. The one from 1996. You have a bazooka, dude. You have plenty of ammo. RE has always had action, more than other horror games. RE4 just made it even more actiony. But action is in the DNA of the series. RE2R is NOT just survival horror. It' also an action game. Not a very good action game, granted, but still an action game. Or at least survival horror with action elements. The only true survival horror game in the RE series is Zero. That is the only RE game where you can screw yourself, run out of ammo and be unable to finish it. Every other game you're swimming in ammo. Games like RE4 and RE3R just give you more combat or evasive options. For some reason RE fans are allergic to good gameplay, though. They just want to play walking sims, basically.
My brother and I jumped up and down and cheered like we won the World Cup when we beat the Nemesis in PS1's "RE3". This new one? I just shrugged my shoulders when I killed it.
The biggest thing they ruined in general is jist Nemesis himself. In the classic was this relentless terminator-like monster that was always after you and in the back of your mind out there while you survived. In this however I just expected another cutscene where I just easily escape from him.
It was weird as I felt at the time Resi evil 3 was a side story, and while had some good things it felt more rushed....and they did the same thing for the 3 remake
I will die firmly believing that RE3 Remake was made for two reasons: 1. Cash in from the hype RE2 Remake deservedly created, and 2. To get it ouf ot the way quickly so they could make RE4 Remake with more effort.
If I listed literally every single gameplay aspect, location and boss that was cut, I would have a list of over a third of the original game's content. OVER A THIRD. Genuinely one of the most lackluster game remakes ever.
Gas station = cut Clock tower = cut Graveyard and worm boss = cut Jill going to the police station = cut It’s almost like they said cut every fun part and we’re good to go. Edit: if I’m not mistaken the park area was cut as well.
I remember playing the demo and thought it was a nice preview of the game. But then the game comes out and it feels like a big chunk of the actual game was just the demo and cutscenes or setpieces filling out the rest. The only other section with some meat to it is the hospital, and that's mostly optional with Jill.
What I really like is for the Police Station in RE2. (This is my personal experience) When I first went in, I felt overwhelmed, got lost alot (Not in a bad way) but as I progressed. (All be it really fast, but that's me watching a whole gameplay walk through a few days before buying it) I started to learn the roots, learn the strats and breeze through basic Zombies but that was until Mr X came in, his loud footsteps always had me on edge and whenever he chased me, I'd mess up more, go the wrong way, run into walls. This meant while having the gear and experience for the puzzles and gameplay, the game still felt scary and not easy. Though due to me breezing the game, he was only a problem for like an hour and then I made it out of the station. The way they handled Mr X in RE2 was amazing, just wish Nemesis could've had the same treatment
As someone without much Resident Evil knowledge when I played REmake 3 (it was my second Resident Evil game after REmake 2) even I was asking why Nemesis stopped being the humanoid version so soon, because I was still familiar with the legacy of the character from crossovers like Marvel Vs Capcom and Dead by Daylight. While I enjoyed the game and have played through it multiple times, probably helped by me getting it on sale for around £10, it's still somewhat disappointing as a newcomer with no knowledge of the original RE3.
I'll never let this one go. RE3 made my childhood and introduced me to one of my now favorite franchises ever, next to Metal Gear. I was SO hyped for the RE3make, counting down the months and the years for its release, only to be left in a deep, dark, depressing void that is now my heart.
I agree with You. I also grew up with RE3 so it was my childhood - had that epic intro, had so much atmosphere and lore to it, especially on how it places Jill being very alone and hopeless in the beginning, and the raccoon exploration played a key role in progressing the game. the remake was just too meh- especially since I know a lot about the raccoon city lore- probably more than the devs. they cut scenes and scenarios which made re3 what it was - the Jill RPD exploration, nemesis killing brad, the park, the clock tower- even the ending nuclear bombing scene was worse. I also wished re2 remake kept more raccoon city segments which it did not - even resident evil dark ide chronicles stayed truer to raccoon city segments. But to be honest I am not expecting much from Capcom anymore. ever since the original re4 release, the series has become irrelevant to me. re 0 1 2 3, outbreaks and code veronica were true RE. For me - resident evil wasn't the same after 2005.
Raccoon City is the most iconic 'zombie city' in all of zombie horror, across both films and games. Even though I'm not talking about the RE movies, it's so iconic even in a game world, that it puts any film's zombie location to bed and tucks it in. How you can waste the opportunity to have Raccoon City a dead wasteland where Jill is being hunted by a biological superweapon while trying to escape the ultimate city of the dead is just beyond me. People don't want to watch cutscenes. They want to PLAY the game. The early portion of the game had some of the best Raccoon City visuals I've ever seen and it literally had you STROLL through them right into the demo. How it could do that, or not let you return to those areas, is just insane. And the fact that the game is actually interconnected but forcefully cut up by barricades and blockades to guide the player down a single, repetitive path is just putting salt on the wound. They REALLY should consider updating the game even though they obviously won't. Mods do help by opening up Raccoon City from the start of the game so you can get certain things early, but there's no enemies in those areas. It's just a mess. And the ultimate disappointment. They even took out the city section of RE2 and through it only into Claire's campaign, which ruins the feeling of false-refuge that you get when you find your way into the police station. A place where you thought you had escaped the chaos, where you thought you were safe... yet... But there was no chaos. The zombies in the opening section don't even aggro you >
This Demake is exactly why I'm holding back on RE4. I even preordered RE3 thinking it was the exploration game it was supposed to be that you even mentioned here.
no matter how good a game is just avoid pre-ordering in general honestly. back then it made more sense because stores had limited copies per shipment, but now its just a old, archaic way to give a company money before you even get the product. BUT, i will say that everything i've seen with RE4 remake has been looking crazy good. can't wait to see the demo coming up.
I really wish RE2 and RE3 had been remade in 2003 and 2004. Imo it's a damn waste that these games didn't get the remake treatment that the first game got. RE2 Remake was fine, but it does not justify a second play through for me, not like the first remake, which I will replay until the day I die.
I blame RE0, it was so mediocre it killed people's interest in the classic style RE. They should've just remade the trilogy instead of putting their money on RE0.
@@விஷ்ணு_கார்த்திக்it was also the sales of RE1R. Mikami stated that had it met and exceeded sales expectations the series wouldn’t have made such a drastic design change in RE4.
Its such a shame re3 is my main favourite from the original Trilogy and still to this day I wish it got the same love as the re2 remake because my main Resident Evil girl Jill Deserves better
@@GugureSux RE2R remade every level from the original RE2. Didn't cut any monsters except for crows&spiders. RE2R was more or less the same game as RE2, yea the zapping system was gone but it wasn't a big deal and the A&B scenarios were always just an artificial way to lengthen the game. They were never that good, its just the same game with different item placements.
Gotta disagree on that one with you. She is animated well but her model... eh. Feels very unfaithful to me although I would be far more accepting if they wrote her well
The game gets a lot wrong, but I think it nailed the replayability. The points shop was genius, giving players a way to customize their progression to a degree. Some the unlocks allowed you to get certain items early. And the extra difficulty modes, while not exactly balanced, were a fun way to enjoy the game again with new crazy surprises.
Despite what a lot of people claim, I personally think this game has good replay value. Still, imagine how much higher said value would be if the included the original's missing features, such as the live choices and branching paths.
@@joshuanelson6795i finished it once and never felt the need or desire to run through it again Why would I? Most of is linear anyway, the game will always be the same every time. On the other hand, I liked RE2R so much I got the platinum for it, and it wasn't boring cause it had enough variation to sustain multiple run throughs
Weird... This is deep but it's intresting to notice that your RE4 video ended on a topic about the trend of the present and past and how the same can be seen in our lives and choices. Someone I know was talking about the cycles in our lives, we obviously have routines and all but it's just interesting to see that I've gone into this last phase of late night gaming and on my own and with friends who've been there since RE4 was new. I was even saying to them that we should enjoy these couple of weeks because we live in completely different cities, hundreds of miles apart and soon we'll probably look at moving in with the people we like so for me, this feels extra nostalgic getting to immersive myself again in all this YT content, gaming lore and things I'd already started to grow apart from. I'll never lose touch with these interests. There's nothing wrong with gaming and enjoying entertainment, late into our lives, it's just that people from the generation never had it at all so all of it is weird to them. I'm sure that most people younger than us will be the same, it's the new norm, or just that people have always loved entertainment and now we have these great stories around. Maybe soon, there'll be a new era of games, the same way YT is having its time and cinema is quiter than ever. Times changes but it's always great to go back and get immersed in things from our past. Some people say they never look back in life. This is really interesting and divsive. Leon himself talks honestly with Krauser about this same thing, in the og RE4!! There's nothing at all wrong with being attached to sentiment and nostalgia, these things define big parts of our character. We don't just wake up as different people, we're the sum of everything we've seen and with this being said, we shouldn't forget where we come from, even if we come from a generation that loved to mess around on a PS console
This remake will always ruin my day lol still makes me so sad that my first horror game and my favourite RE (with fixed camera) had such a bad remake. Like you said, its not a bad game on its own, but it could be the best Raccoon City game (one of the most important places in the RE lore), with tense exploration knowing that Nemesis is around the corner. Maybe they could implement a train system to explore interconected streets of the city, a little bit like the new Dead Space Remake. Oh well, I guess we will never have a proper Raccoon City game. Good job making your points quick and clear, this video pretty much sums up everything wrong with this game in just a couple of minutes.
Resident Evil 3 remake was one of the biggest disappointments in gaming. Followed by the shallow albeit better experience in village, 4 remake better be a grand slam or this franchise is in trouble
Video is spot on. R3make is a fun action game, and not being more than that is disapointing to me... I was particularly looking forward to the clocktower section, and such a focus on action setpieces while not having Mercenaries mode is bizarre.
I think we need to keep bashing on how bad as a remake this game is, forever. I'm really angry at Capcom even now, after RE4 Remake's DLC Separate Ways have MORE content than the entire of RE3R for cheaper. And now they're working on the NExt Remake instead of making a Director's cut of this one. It's so... painful as a fan. It feels like Capcom hates Jill. Simple as that.
That would require admitting they messed up, which is often something they won't do if they don't absolutely have to, lol. But I would love if they fixed up RE3R like that!
Jill picking up the rail gun at the end was unbelievable. Shooting it and the floor breaking up underneath her was even more unbelievable. Glad I still own the OG RE3.
You do realise it’s a resident evil game? 😂 That’s not even the biggest eye rolling moment. Capcom embraces those moments 😂 I would put "Chris punching a Boulder" higher on the list.
@@Kiárán92 the original Racoon games were a bit more grounded, whereas RE4-RE6 was kind the comedy era of RE, so it was to be expected. Doesn't really fit in the Raccoon games
I agree with everything you said. Re3 remake it comes off flat and it’s just a linear game. I wish I could of seen more of raccon city and Jill was the one that went to the rpd. I wish we got another take at re3 remake
the lengths some people went to defend the blatant lack of care in RE3R was hilarious people just say anything to justify their $60 ticket to be part of a trending discussion
Never played the originals, but re-played RE2 Remake more times than I can count. Even though I mastered the game long ago with S+ ratings, it is still a fun way to kill a couple of hours and I can't go completely into autopilot. OTOH, probably only played RE3 Remake 3 or 4 times. Like you said, it feels like a dumbed-down, smaller rehash of RE2 in a lot of ways.
It wasn't that it was bad imo. It was just too short and felt rushed. I used to be more critical of short games but i think sometimes we forget that the developers just don't have enough time. The publisher decides when it will need to be done. I think the developers just wanted to finish the foundation without struggling to finish anything for the deadline
I loved the flamethrower fight with Nemesis because it was fun, creative and wasn't present in the original. As such, I was really excited to see how his later encounters would be expanded on. So imagine my disappointment when he spent the rest of the game (minus the all too brief rocket launcher chase) as a big dog monster.
The funny thing is that the original RE3 was a spin-off that was expanded because they couldn't make it in time with the 'real' RE3 that was planned for the end of PS1 gen, and PS2 was very close. Here, they knew it was Resident Evil 3, and they wanted to ride the success of RE2, and PS5 was closing in, so they told the staff to cut everything and rush the thing out as fast as possible. RE3 was an expanded spin-off that ended up deserving its spot as main entry, RE3r basically went for "what if RE3 1999 stayed as the Last Escape spin off they had planned". Hell, they were so faithful with this remake, they even got the B-team to rush through the development of it like the original! :D
Nemisis is easily the thing I was most excited for in the Remake and they really dropped the ball with him. Instead of having him actively hunt you throughout the map, jumpscaring you by coming through the entrance of a smaller area or chasing you through an alleyway they opted to make him Remake Mr.X 2.0. His main boss fights were all super underwhelming and the rewards for taking him down are very underwhelming. I liked Carlos' presentation on its own, but Nikolai's was also quite cookie-cutter with less impact. The UBC in general felt pretty flat with the best piece of lip service the get being the train ride. The clock tower being absent was plain criminal too. The Remake isn't a bad game by any stretch, it just wasn't RE3 quality. It's a shame because out of the original trilogy it was the most gripping with insane replay value and fun speed/challenge run rewards. I'm just glad RE4R is for the most part a great homage to its progenitor. Saddler isn't quite as zany, both him and Salazaar losing the radio interactions with Leon was a little saddening and I really disliked a few smaller details like the game locking off routes in the village and castle for seemingly no reason after you'd hit certain story beats. The shooting range also feels like it wasn't properly tested as it's easier to complete a finished run by purposefully lowering the game to 30fps. Bullets aren't hitscan and the targeting reticle is misleading as the lines show the limit of a weapon's spread rather than the center of them doing so like they do in any other shooter leading to some extremely frustrating skulls that are near impossible to hit on higher framerates with standard reaction time. But at it's core it's a perfectly serviceable Remake that isn't perfect, but scratches the itch. I'm hoping that when and if they remake 5 that they'll stick with the camp a bit more. Wesker in original 5 is a treat to watch in cutscenes and speaking of which I'm glad they removed QTEs from the things in both 4 Remake and a recent update for 5. The one thing they absolutely cannot cheap out on is the co-op experience. AI Sheva needs to be a bit sharper and there needs to be a good few obstacles and puzzles that fit the format. I think what I'm most excited for with a potential 5 remake is seeing just how much more horrifying they can make the Reapers look as they were one of very few enemies in the series that to this day genuinely creep me out. The combination of Regenerador and Novistador with an instakill was an inspired original design for an enemy and the death scene is just chilling when you project onto the character you're playing.
5:33 because they already had the assets from re2, so it was easier to make them longer (so much laziness). Man I hate remake3, resident evil 3 is one of my favorites resident evil games, I was so hyped for it, and got so disappointed with the remake.
It wasn't disappointing. It was bad. Offensively bad. Can we please just admit it was bad and stop saying it was disappointing we've had like 3 years to grieve at this point.
I 100% agree with everything you said. The only thing you left out that bugged me was the fact Nicolai could escape in the original and Barry came to pick you up in the helicopter at the end. I missed those two nuggets from the original.
After REmake2 I thought 3 would be a slam dunk, felt like all the pieces were there and wanted to see more of the city in this new way. Eventually REmake3 came out and I still haven’t played it. And the odds of that happening are lower every video about it I see
You really are not missing anything by skipping RE3 remake. Ironically enough the only section of this game done right is a demo area, so its possible to experience everything good in this game for free simply by downloading a demo.
Played through it for the first time with a friend watching and I had a blast. It was on hardcore. We frequently noticed I still had a ton of ammo though. Wish we could get a “classic” difficulty.
Glad to see you back into videos of games I absolutely love! You’re metal gear 4 video is iconic imo and I frequently watch it from time to time. I could not agree more that was by far my most hyped game of all time
It’s just not worth replaying, especially not with that boring intro that takes control away from the player in favour of “hold UP on the analog stick until the next mini cutscene, and repeat”
Don't worry, RE4 demake's already confirmed to be shit. But sadly, the modern PS5 kiddos love this sort of poopoo, so it will sell, and then said kiddos will start memeing online that "only contrarians / boomers hate this masterpiece! :^)". We already got such brats online shitting on the classic RE4. Might be part of the viral marketing plan as well, but it's hard to tell nowadays.
This game was a massive letdown. It just felt like it did the bare minimum. The areas are absolutely tiny and there's only one decent puzzle. The clock tower being cut entirely as well as ruining nemesis were the biggest letdowns of all.
The game was simply too rushed, too linear, and removed many features from the original game which was already considered the shortest of the trilogy by many. It’s a shame and could have done way better if the developers weren’t motivated entirely on greed.
There are some really glaring flaws in this game, I'm shocked they even released it. 1. Completely turns the open non-linear aspect of the original game into what is basically a COD-style corridor shooter, the "puzzles" were jokes. 2. Removes entire chunks of gameplay from the original game and instead replaces it with a multiplayer game that was pretty much dead on arrival 3. Feels more like a platinum style action game with guns, not surprising considering it was made by a B-team of platinum developers who worked on MGS: Rising. Also, this wouldn't be a bad thing, but it would've been cool to have them reboot Maximo instead just having the RE2:Remake team continue their work. 4. Criminally short, should've been 40 dollars on launch and If you were pretty skilled you could accidentally speed run the game on your first try as we saw with a lot of people. The first time I wasn't even trying and finished it in 3.5 hours. 5. All the upgrades from Nemesis could be gotten from 2 main encounters 6. We see Jill in a good form for the first time in 20 years and the return was quickly forgotten, also locking the original Riot Grrrl/Girl Power costume as pre-order DLC and resold later was a shit move.
I don't watch many RUclipsrs these days, but I must say you never disappoint me! Literally yesterday while streaming this game I said "I wonder why fans were disappointed with this one" Woke up this morning and saw your video. Keep up the great work, Charlie. Much love from Canada!
Plated it a month back. Awful game that should really be called a demake. Its scary that some think RE3Remake is a good Remake, how low standards have got.
Bad enough the campaign was boring but the scenario writing was bizarre. Nemesis is supposed to be threatened and horrifying but that’s mitigated by Jill’s too-tough attitude and New Carlos’s one-liners. Same flaw in The Last Jedi. We are to understand Luke is a fractured soul but his opening scene is essentially a one-liner. Are we supposed to feel sorry for him or laugh?

literally three years later? isn't that a little much? not really relevant anymore, the consensus by the general public of this remake is positive partially because you never released this to said public. there was exactly one critical video that came out at that time as i recall. if re4 remake is bad, well it won't be your fault, but you didn't exactly help by essentially suppressing your own criticism and for so long. i mean you're entitled to pick and choose how your work is done and monetized, just - if you wanted the other remakes to be any different, it's a bit late, could've left this in the patreon vault after all.

Gotta love that the "You want S.T.A.R.S?" line is placed in the remake in such a way that it's possible for Nemesis to immediately punch you and interrupt it.
Goes to show how much they cared for the project
TBF the new nemesis doesn't say "STARS" a whole lot. He says it like 5 times total and then turns into a dog in his 2ndform. "You want STARS?" made sense in the OG because he kept saying it over&over&over like a robot until the very end of the game where he falls into acid.
Jill: You want S.T.A.R.S?!!
Nemesis: No U…
@beef business The reason for its placement is likely because the line wasn’t in OG3’s Japanese script. So, the RE:3 localization team just put it in a different place as a cute reference

@@gabrieljimenez5313 Yeah, I've noticed Capcom has this weird hate boner for Jill Valentine specifically.
It is beyond sad that we got this in the remake instead of the masterpiece original RE3 was.... I just wish we could get a RE3 Remake's Remake💀

Interesting how a ps1 game had more complex, creative game mechanics and varied game world.
Old games only used to have Technological Limitations. New games have Creative Limitations put on them by the greedy suits who want a guaranteed ROI.
@@goranisacson2502 they had the assets for more areas already made. No excuse, imo.
Because that original game had to earn its audience.
The branching story paths were to make up for the fact there’s only really one main character, as was the implementation of the Nemesis enemy type.
The RE3 remake had an in-built audience of suckers (like me) carried over from the RE2 remake who just wanted more.

More like "Hey, people loved RE 2 remake! What if we release Re 3 remake super close and cut a bunch of stuff? No one will notice!"
Completely agree with this take. It’s not a bad game, just one with so much missed potential it’s hard not to be let down.
Even the menu system isn’t as intuitive as RE2 🤦♂️
What's worse is that RE3 Remake downgraded the ragdoll physics and attention to detail from RE2 Remake
The zombies in RE2 were awesome with their animation and the dismemberment system. RE3's zombies feel like cheap knock offs in comparison.
At least there was still gore in 3R. You could still blow the heads, legs and arms off of the zombies. Unlike RE8, which only gave you the ability to shoot the heads off of the Lycan enemies. You couldn’t even shoot the heads of the Moroaica enemies.
Also no cool ways to die like in the original re3
That’s the only real thing that gets me like fine you want to take some locations and enemies an boss battles out whatever I guess but atleast keep the rag doll/ blood and gore physics from the re2make
@@77jamess The gore system in Village bothered me with how boring it was. This is Resident Evil, Capcom, the game is allowed to be as visceral as possible.
Really can't help but agree with the sentiment that this game was an obligation more than anything else, especially with how fast it came out after RE2 Remake and how much longer the wait for RE4 Remake has been in comparison
A real missed oppourtunity, because the game is overall competent and not lacking in spectacle otherwise

Giving the RPD segment to Carlos was the stupidest decision ever and robbed us of yet another moment that would be perfect for a Nemesis chase.
I believe it's because they do not properly handle the partnering system. I think it's better if the person who pick the lock was Jill rather than Tyrell, that would make the Alpha Nemesis parasite make more sense if we later found Brad zombies were infected by Nemesis.
@@Kimberliearcher that would’ve been awesome tbh.
Only reason why Carlos goes to the RPD was because they can reuse assets that way.
Would’ve been better for Jill to enter the police station first to call in for backup much like in the original; i wanted to have Nemesis break the wall that you see in remakes 2 and 3 in the shower room. Then once jill leaves the station is when she gets rescued by Carlos.
And that damn hole in the wall...how they tought that it was an pretty fun idea to play with our emotions?

My biggest complaint is that they completely removed the iconic clock tower, why Capcom decided to replace this with expanded sewers and a larger hospital is beyond my comprehension and was poor judgment
Probably the biggest sign of it feeling rushed this game feels like a throw away dlc title more then actual full package
The clock tower, a level that needs to be modeled, textured, lit, populated AND tested, versus the RPD Station, which already went through all that.

Yea I remember that. Sometimes it'll be zombies in a later segment, or hunters instead of zombies.
Very well said. I share similar thoughts and you explained them better than I could. 👏
@@SenorGuina Please, don't join a discussion if all you got is info pulled out of your ass.
speaking of the lore I can't stand the whole argument that 'Code Veronica was the reeaal RE3'.

The clocktower isn't fully modelled. The only part in the map is the gate that's used in the cutscenes
I feel like the update you mentioned would cost about 50 million dollars, as much as I hope it would happen, I don't think it will, like ever.

@@goranisacson2502the branching paths altered the story in a very minimal way, that's just a bullshit excuse from Capcom
I mean they have a lot more to lose with RE4 than RE3 so its unsurprising.
@@SuperNeos2 LOL if they heard our complaints, they need to re-remake RE3.
I highly doubt capcom will ever come back to do another remake on RE3
There’s just absolutely zero threat at all.
I do wish the dodge roll mechanic was in the new RE 4 Remake. It would have been perfect for it
@@unicorntomboy9736 I think the parry mechanic was enough.

I feel like that's not just the games part, you were younger when you beat RE3 PS1 and as you grow older, the same things aren't as exciting or fun.
The biggest thing they ruined in general is jist Nemesis himself. In the classic was this relentless terminator-like monster that was always after you and in the back of your mind out there while you survived. In this however I just expected another cutscene where I just easily escape from him.
I am blown the fuck away by how they managed to fuck Nemesis up so bad when they had the perfect foundation in Mr. X from REmake2
It was weird as I felt at the time Resi evil 3 was a side story, and while had some good things it felt more rushed....and they did the same thing for the 3 remake

@Mattress Store years implying I've been waiting my whole life for a remake
Cool to see the exclusive videos pop up here now and again! There's a lot more of these on patreon so I recommend checking them out.
Dude, I finished the game last night and my impression was literally WHAT? IS THAT IT?
You're a tool. It never was an exploration game.
no matter how good a game is just avoid pre-ordering in general honestly. back then it made more sense because stores had limited copies per shipment, but now its just a old, archaic way to give a company money before you even get the product.
BUT, i will say that everything i've seen with RE4 remake has been looking crazy good. can't wait to see the demo coming up.

What a great remake. I love how the sprawling puzzle like map of the original was turned into 2 parallel streets with nothing to do.

The fact that you can get all achievements in under 2 hours and refund it on Steam pretty much says all you need to know about RE3 remake

Mr X felt more like nemeses in 2 remake and nemesis felt like Mr X in 3 remake.
I 100% agree with everything you said. The only thing you left out that bugged me was the fact Nicolai could escape in the original and Barry came to pick you up in the helicopter at the end. I missed those two nuggets from the original.
Thank you. You've managed to put into words what I have been trying to say for the past years:
''Re3 RE feels more like a RE6 Campaign than RE3''
The RE3 we got wasn't a remake.
It was a reference at best.
I love it when RE is action focused (I platinumed re6) but remake3 is way to short. It's pretty the length of just one of 6's.
Hey Brit you got any big projects cooking up in the back
After REmake2 I thought 3 would be a slam dunk, felt like all the pieces were there and wanted to see more of the city in this new way.
You're in luck
I really enjoyed it bought RE2&3 as a bundle for £12 100% worth £6 each (and came with RE-Verse) maybe if I played 2 first I’d be disappointed with 3?
Played through it for the first time with a friend watching and I had a blast. It was on hardcore. We frequently noticed I still had a ton of ammo though. Wish we could get a “classic” difficulty.
Original RE3 was the same. If you used Gunpowder well, by the Clock Tower you could have something like 30 Magnum Rounds in the OG.
Glad to see you back into videos of games I absolutely love! You’re metal gear 4 video is iconic imo and I frequently watch it from time to time. I could not agree more that was by far my most hyped game of all time
Resident Evil 2 Remake has some serious problems as well.
Exactly.
It’s just not worth replaying, especially not with that boring intro that takes control away from the player in favour of “hold UP on the analog stick until the next mini cutscene, and repeat”
I just hope RE4 remake doesn't end up like this and keeps what made the original enjoyable Capcom worries me with remakes sometimes lol
@@GugureSux What makes you say that, and give me good points.
@@GugureSuxCapcom had outright said nothing will be cut from RE4. It might not be great but everything that was in the original will not be removed.
This game was a massive letdown. It just felt like it did the bare minimum. The areas are absolutely tiny and there's only one decent puzzle. The clock tower being cut entirely as well as ruining nemesis were the biggest letdowns of all.
The nude mods made this the GOTY
Real
The game was simply too rushed, too linear, and removed many features from the original game which was already considered the shortest of the trilogy by many.
It’s a shame and could have done way better if the developers weren’t motivated entirely on greed.
I agree, I really wanted a sprawling raccoon city to explore. What we got was more like a small town haunted trail tour.
The awful boss battles and not having mercenaries really hurt this game tbh
There are some really glaring flaws in this game, I'm shocked they even released it.
1. Completely turns the open non-linear aspect of the original game into what is basically a COD-style corridor shooter, the "puzzles" were jokes.
2. Removes entire chunks of gameplay from the original game and instead replaces it with a multiplayer game that was pretty much dead on arrival
5. All the upgrades from Nemesis could be gotten from 2 main encounters
They made Mr X feel like OG Nemesis for the RE 2 remake and they made Nemisis feel like OG Mr X in the RE 3 remake
The game isnt as replay able as RE2. The first 10 minutes or so is a heavily scripted sequence that is a chore to redo
