You mentioned William Wallace but not Robert the Bruce?
or the jacobites and bonni Prince charlie. 1745-46. jacobites was the Scottish clans that faught for our independence and our rightfull king but no one ever mentions the jacobites uprising. they play a huge part in Scottish history just as much as Wallace and bruce. but it's funny how the jacobites rebel army was named the 45 and in 2014 only 45% voted yes and was named the 45. 45 is a fighting number
@@chriscarr6884 I thought the Jacobites were fighting for a unified Britain, not a independent Scotland.
Correction: Jacobites weren't exclusively Scottish clans, but a large number of Jacobites did come from the Catholic Highland clans. Jacobites were just supporters of the Catholic Stuart Dynasty: the name coming from the Latin for James II & VII
(Jacobus). There were many Jacobites and Jacobite sympathisers across the British isle in Ireland and England as well as in Scotland. It's interest to discover that the Government troops that fought against the Jacobites in 1745 were actually Scottish from the lowlands, whom were primarily Protestant and had a distinct culture compared to the Highlanders.
Scotticus so if I’m Scottish, catholic and want independence am I a Jacobite?
@@itz_justj6117 Jacobites were more concerned with a Stuart Royal dynasty of Great Britain rather than an independent Scotland

one big note that's a pretty sad part of history was the scottish purge after the 1740's Jacobite revolution, after the battle that killed over 4000 Scots the king of england didn't want that to happen again so they executed many leaders of the clans and some of the clans leaders were all killed, the Gaelic language was outlawed entirely, the carrying of a broadsword was made illegal and the kilt was even outlawed I believe

Does not mention Scotlands war with Norway.
We were at war with Norway?
Ryan Mckie476, when I was researching the history of my Scottish roots, I saw that after the Viking ages, Norway claimed some those Northwest peninsula and islands in Scotland. At that time most of the highlands and lowlands were united under the kingdom of Alba/Scotland. So they said, let’s get them back. So I guess they declared war on Norway. There was the Historic Battle of Largs in where Scotland won. Scotland invaded the rest of Norway’s land and then the Norwegian king died, and the heir of the Norwegian throne made piece with Scotland and gave Scotland its stuff back.
JohnnyAppleSeed 49 yes but that war was so short the Scots lost automatically England destroyed the vikings Scotland helped what not enough
gamers55, the war was short yes, but the Norwegian King died and thus the war ended. It’s really a stalemate, but the Scots won the battle of Largs, which was the major battle so they are credited to winning.
Don't call us English, mate. British is fine.
Neil Cole don't call us British either , Scottish is fine
Well, the reason I say that is because our citizenship is British. To call us English is just factually inaccurate, and ignores our separate Scottish cultural identity. But I figure 300 years of history makes being British part of that identity, so it's okay. No?
Neil Cole we are born in scotland, so we are scottish, thats our nationality
Well, yeah mate I agree. It's just that we're British too. If you're Scottish you have a British/EU passport, if you're Scottish you can vote in British elections, If you're Scottish you hold British citizenship, if you're Scottish you pay British taxes, if you're Scottish you live by laws made in the British Parliament as well as the Scottish Parliament, if you're Scottish you are protected by the British military. Scottish MPs sit in the British parliament, our head of government is the British Prime minister (I think about 7 of which were Scottish). The Scottish government has powers that have been devolved by the British Government. Even the heir to the British throne has the title "the Duke of Rothesay!"
Is it not possible to be two things at the same time?

Why not call us British? We are. Just because we have a bitter sector, don’t confuse us all with them.
How many of you lot want independence?
Beetlejuice good question. As you know, the last vote was 45-55. However, the Yes camp made out that Scotland would be rich in oil. Soon as we voted, then oil plummeted. We are better off in the U.K., particularly financially. The yes camp just have not got a valid argument for economics, which should scare anyone against voting yes!
At the moment, the Sturgeon of the SNP (Scotland’s admiration Leader) is very good at copying the U.K. government and bringing out exactly what they say, but a few hours earlier. Where as, it’s hard for the U.K. government to come off well. It’s always easier for them.
We had a fair vote, we said no. That shouldn’t change. We can’t keep having votes when we get something the SNP don’t want. The Yes camp will ageee to ANYTHING that gets them another vote. Even if they don’t believe it.

Yee
Damn this guy talks fast 😂
Scotland is a beautiful country, I’m lucky that I’m from Newcastle and it’s not too far to visit
There are that many Scottish people living there it's basically scotland now
Scotland has to end the english oppression.
It isn't though they have representatives in parliament and they can do stuff differently to other parts of the UK like any other country within it
Everyone in the comments saying you can call Scots British...you're probably not Scottish are you
Maybe they know that the Scots voted to stay British.
I have part Scottish (born in Northumberland) and I call Scottish as Highlanders
Arran Haigh Why not??We are still part of the Union? As long as they don’t call us English.
Arran Haigh Well Scottish people are british, like welsh and english are as well, not english though.
@@cargo1522 The term British Isles isn't legit, it's controversial and many council & government bodies claim it should not exist.
When I was at school in Scotland in the seventies the entire history of Scotland was taught as an adjunct to the history of England. I have never before heard anyone mention that Scotland gained its independence from England in 1357.
Britain doesn't really like nationalist sentiment so we are usually not taught much Scottish history in school. Seriously though, I had to learn about my countries history by myself.
Sròn - Adharcach this is so true, I thought it was just me that thought this!
Why are you speaking so fast?
And why are you not swearing?
Free Scotland ! Long Live ours brothers the scots and scotland from your oldest ally, france :) ♥

gregor santospif well hopefully we stay apart of the European Union I don’t know who’s stupid idea it was to leave!
@Hard Working, Scotts from the lowlands, Shetland and Orkney would without doubt have some Scandinavian dna just like many of us Scandinavians have som Irish/Scottish dna. Another thing the Scotts share with us is words in their language that are the same or similar in the Scandinavian languages, for example: Steid/Sted(place), Lope/Løbe(Run), Kirk/Kirke(Church), Sma/Små(Small), Keek/Kig(Look) and lot's of others.
“What’s he even hiding under that hat?”
That’s a question many Christians have asked for centuries.
History of Yorkshire! And our foreign subjugation after our heroic King Richard III was brutally slain at the Battle of Bosworth Field!
You mean Idiotic Richard III? A Lancastrian dynasty made England one of the world's superpowers
i love yorkshire. has such a beautiful country side
No! History of Lancashire! 🌹
Yorkshire should have always been a bro and joined Scotland! :D
That spunds like a script line from Game of Thrones
3:37 "scotland voted to remain part of the united kingdom" if i remember correctly, it wasn't just scottish people who got to vote
Who else got to vote?
Wit?

What of the battle of colluden and the english raids after the battle killing and executing Scots because they were speaking their native language ect ...
That was actually mosty Scottish Redcoat soldiers killing Scottish Highlanders. The British Army at Culloden consisted mostly of Scotsmen from the lowlands.
