    I like how you brought up the lack of mystery in this movie, and how sometimes horror is better when questions are left unanswered. The original graphic novel never reveals why the people are aging rapidly on the beach. shyamalan saw that as an opportunity for a twist.

  • @Amber_xo_133
    @Amber_xo_133 2 года назад +2

    The theatrical poster design is a direct reference to the graphic novel, Sandcastle, which inspired this film. It's from a moment in which a character tells a tale about "a strange old man who had half of everything: half a head, half a body, and half of his arms and legs."
    Old (2021) marks the first time M. Night Shyamalan has filmed entirely outside Greater Philadelphia since his first film Praying with Anger (1992). However, Guy and Prisca mention that Philadelphia is where they live.
    The film is an adaptation of a 2010 graphic novel by writer Pierre Oscar Lévy and artist Frederik Peeters called Sandcastle. When asked what inspired him to adapt the book to film, director M. Night Shyamalan explained: "The book gave me the opportunity to work through a lot of anxieties I had around death and aging, and things like my parents getting older."
    Near the end, the notebook they find that contains a written possible theory and other victims' names is said to have belonged to a science fiction writer. This is a direct reference to the graphic novel wherein the main character that comes up with theories for their unusual situation is a science fiction writer.

This is easily one of the most bizarre, strange and intense movies I have seen in a long time. It did not effect me that much while I was watching it, but certain scenes have been popping in my head since I saw it over two days ago. It's almost like experiencing a nightmare in the sense that, nothing makes sense. I really had a twilight zone feeling here. By all means is this one of his best movies. • @A.I.-
    @A.I.- 2 года назад +2

    I actually loved "OLD".
    It depicted that most of us "CAN NOT" escape our deterministic future (but only a few).
    It showed our perceived happiness in the present, and our naive perception of the future.
    It hit home, how short life is... well at least for me.
    From growing old and not maturing intellectually, from inevitable medical issues as we age, the important things in life and the trivial things, accepting our destiny/fate or keep trying to create your own no matter how difficult, from philosophical ethics in science research in order to save/help more lives by sacrificing others, relationships, discrimination, etc...
    Its a plethora of experiences, issues, science, philosophies, ethics, social, etc... beneath the surface of what is merely going on the surface of being in an environment of accelerated aging.
    After watching several of Shyamalan movies, I'm beginning to see how some of these odd dialogues are purposely deliberate. There's a rhythm and strategically enhance/placed at a particular moments. It leaves bad taste to some, particularly to viewers wanting perfection. But the reality is that, in real life situations, you will find most people saying odd statements/dialogues during stressful situations. Nevertheless, its something that doesn't bother me watching his films as I can relate to them.

    M. Night Shyamalan does this a lot - he has some intriguing setup but is unwilling to actually forge the story. Ex: the woman’s makeup resembling a clowns face as she aged. There were a lot instances where he touched on social aspects of human nature as well. Ex: The most rational person at first (the nurse) who explained how impossible it’d be to swim against the oceans current, eventually lost all sense of ration and was the first person to attempt it (leading to his death). The movie was very well put together.

      I would assume for the same reason they don't have to eat, drink, or go to the bathroom at an advanced rate. Their bodies aren't going through every natural process at hyper-speed. It's more like only the cells are advancing/dying quickly, but everything else about them remains the same (like as they mentioned in the film, their skin & nails aren't growing either). It's not entirely logical but I can accept it. If they needed to eat, drink, etc enough for 50ish years in just half a day, none of them would make it beyond probably minutes. If the women had years worth of periods in minutes, they'd bleed out right away. Everyone would die right away from not being able to keep up with their bodies' needs before any aging effects got to them.

      I enjoyed it but thought it was fun and funny, not great and scary. The dialogue is too nonsensical and there's no suspense about the characters dying because the intro to their lives felt rushed and superficial. They all kind of felt like caricatures and not real humans who had a life before the movie. That being said I enjoyed watching the way the movie played out but never felt scared for the characters or their fates because they just felt disposable in service of the individual cool moments that take advantage of the premise.

    9 years after I started watching Jeremy, he still delivers the most real reviews on RUclips.

    I haven't seen the movie yet but when Jeremy mentioned it was from a book, I got interested. Someone below said it was called "sandcastles" which was close but not 100% accurate. The "book" is actually a graphic novel called "Sandcastle" by Frederik Peeters and Pierre Oscar Lévy, if anyone is interested. There is a novel called "Sandcastles" by Luanne Rice, but it's nothing like the M. Night Shyamalan movie (I've haven't read either the book or graphic novel, just sharing what a quick Google search yielded).

    I love thrillers and thought the movie was really good! Before watching it i was thinking it was gonna be something more sci fi like aliens or someshit, it kept me wondering wtf is going on, and how eventually gets explained in the end, is all i really want from a thriller! I want more movies like that!!

      Yea it's another one of those movies you have to turn your brain off to accept it's logic. There's another part where they can't exit the beach because the "magic" keeps them from leaving by making them walk backwards but it doesn't stop them from entering.

    Didnt know it was based off a graphic novel but I enjoyed the science behind it. It helped to watch it with two Physician Assistants who are well informed on health and could explain to me everyone’s disorders and how the health science behind each disorder works. We had a whole a conversation on the old man’s dementia and how realistic it was for how some get extremely violent. I enjoyed it for the health science but yeah the film plot was okay for someone who is not a health professional. I did like the twist at the end though of the pharmacy using these people as experiments to test their drugs though.
