My husband is from Thailand, we eat that way here in the states but the only difference is that we don’t use sugar. I love the rice porridge with pickled vegetables. We grow our own Thai basil, lemon leaf, chilies beside our house just like you do. Pad-kee-mow is one of my favorites, even though I’m probably spelling it wrong, lol. That and my husband makes the best curry. I am grateful to my mother-in-law for making him to learn how to cook when he was growing up in Thailand. 😋🥰
I could watch 100 days of this and never get bored. I'm a born and raised American and my tailor is a lovely Chinese man (from China) who works out of his house. Every time I'm there I'm eyeballing his kitchen and dying to ask what everything is and what he's cooking (it always smells incredible). One time I pulled up and saw him in his garage washing and prepping a massive amount of a vegetable that I didn't recognize, and I wanted to ask a thousand questions. Hopefully one day I'll know him well enough to ask without it being weird. In the meantime, thank God for RUclips where I can spy on people's cooking and eating habits without feeling inappropriate. Thanks!!
Having lived in Chiangmai for 15 years and traveled throughout the country, I still haven't found another place on the planet that has the zesty, flavorful, and pungent aromas. The sauces are spectacular and each dish is always served with a smile. Thanks for taking me back to my second home Pai.
exactly. its actually rare to not be able to find really good food on any budget anywhere in the country. it is one reason the Thai diet has been considered one of the best worldwide. not only tasty, but also good for you.
A slice of your life in Thailand! Yes!!! 🎉This is absolutely a super wonderful video!! I am so glad you thought of doing this for us. Do you have any idea how us foodies crave for this kind of content? Showing us the way of the locals. How people go about their normal everyday life in Thailand. There are thousands of cooking and travel videos on RUclips, but to see the simple foods you eat, how you prepare them, the restaurants in your neighborhood, shopping at a local supermarket, etc is just so magnificent. What a joy! Thank you so much. Please make lots and lots of these kind of videos while you're in your homeland. A fascinating place for us westerners.
I thought portion sizes can be small in Thailand too. I think smaller portions for a lower price makes sense. People that want more food can pay for more and there’s less food waste. It also creates access to food for different socioeconomic backgrounds.
I think the smaller portions are probably normal for people in general. Here in America everything is super sized. I dont know how people eat like they do.
Here in the Philippines, sardines in tomato sauce is pretty standard, too. Squeezing calamansi (Philippine lemon) lessens the fishy smell and taste. To stretch the contents of a small can of sardines, you can saute it with garlic and onions then add some veggies (I like adding Chinese cabbage strips), rice noodles and some water. You get a yummy soup dish perfect with a steaming plate of rice.
@@robinsonseff Calamansi is a hybrid between kumquat and another species of Citrus like a mandarin orange. We have them in Thailand too but they are not as common as they used to be, I have no idea why. I grow them instead as I love them. In Thai they are called ส้มจี๊ด or som jeet and if you put that into Google translate it comes up with kumquat but that's not quite right since it's a hybrid.
Oh man, this video brought back memories from I was living in Bangkok ..... back in the early 70's. Mom worked for the UN so we were there for a couple of years b4 migrated to California. Your parents' house and neighborhood are just as I remembered my childhood there. The steam fish, the salted duck eggs .... all comfort foodz. Thanks for triggering my childhood memories of Thailand.
omg Pailin, there's a BL series from Thailand which is huge (I think it's the biggest on youtube in 2022, it's called Cutie Pie on Mandee channel and it gathered over 250 million views in 6 months already). In one episode they're making salted egg salad and you won't believe how many international fans don't know about salted eggs or that you cut them with the shell still on. But hey, it's bringing A LOT of interest to thai culture and cuisine so I'm very happy :)
Living in the US, this is exactly how a visit to home(south India) looks and feels like. Such similar homes and yards and things we yearn for. Loved this video. That bonsai in the big pot is soooo beautiful!!! Wish Pai had given us a close up of it. 🙂
When I lived with my Thai girlfriend the first thing I did was build a outdoor kitchen for her. I visited Thailand and her family twice during the time we were together, this video brought back some memories. Your videos are helping me make use of my kitchen...thanks a million.
We've recently moved back from BKK, having been there for 7 years. These amazing videos remind me of our wonderful time living there with our family. Moo ping and sticky rice are still my kid's favourite meal.
Greetings from Italy, Pai and Art! 😃 this video was amazing, I learned more about Thai culture and food by these 8 minutes than by most of the documentaries available online! Thank you 😊
Thanks for sharing what the day-to-day meals are like in Thailand, Pailin. It is very nice to be back to your home country where all the cooking ingredients are so fresh and easy to find everywhere. I love that you can grow your own aromatic herbs outside the house all year round.
I remember watching one of your older video where you were at back at your family's house picking holy basil. Nice to see how times have changed and how your channel and your family has grown, thank you so much for all the wonderful videos.
The leftovers for breakfast reminds me of growing up in my Thai household. My dad always had a scallion omelette leftover- we would even have it with dinner sometimes. This was very nostalgic to watch, thank you.
This was awesome Pailin! Cooking with family gives us a warmth that is hard to explain but we all know what it is. I'm glad you could visit your family now that the worst of COVID has passed. When I go visit my family in Florida we might do a fish fry, or maybe a big pot of chicken and dumpling soup. We are good fisherman so usually my aunts or uncles bring a fish home and we cook it up good. :)
Wow, enjoy your vacation🙂 I really like your Pad Thai Style☺️ Whenever I crave for it, I always cisit your channel and watch your YT and follow your step-by-step cooking Pad Thai😍
we fry the canned sardines in tomato sauce, with sliced onions and tomato wedges and lime juice. one of my favourite dishes with plain porridge. will try your style as it looks so delish.
Pailin you food and channel has hugely influenced me to be more real and truthful. I adore your recipes and enthusiasm in sharing so many beautiful meals. You are a good person and I hope as long as the sun lasts that your family lasts sharing whatever you want to share and doing whatever you want to do. Life is so much better with your youtube channel and sharing your love and food with the world.
Wow!! So happy for you that you are able to take this vacation break here in Thailand. I moved here from Los Angeles in 2002 and love it here. Slower pace of life, exciting food, wonderful people. I was in Chiang Mai for a couple years, but mostly in the Chonburi area because of my work in Global Sourcing. Retired now and so happy to see your shows on RUclips often. Keep up the great work, and THANKS!!

Oh my typical day of eating! I have been a world traveler most of my life. I eat in a similar fashion. Small bits of this, a bowl of that. I mix cuisines in my meals. I love hummus with asparagas. I love Korean or Japanese seaweed salads. I am eager to try your curries however, cancer has me eating vegan now- but I adapt recipes to allow me to enjoy the flavors but remain vegan. I eat tofu's and tempeh. I used to be pescatarian, so routinely made Asian inspired dishes. I love stinky tofus and used to eat salted duck eggs- again vegan now. I truly "eat the world". Brown rice is less acidic to the body with cancer so I eat medium grain brown rice- but its still delicious. Cant do sugar in my sauces- can modify with monkfruit quite well. Thank you for sharing your day. Your voice reflects how much you love being home.
So happy for you . I’m sure you missed your parents so much. Enjoy your time. I can’t wait to visit Thailand again just November and eat all the yummy food again
That was very interesting and fun. If I'm interested in a cuisine I want to know what people actually eat at a typical meal, not just the signature restaurant dishes. When I travel I love going to markets and getting street food. Sometimes you get outside your comfort zone-I may never entirely embrace having fish for breakfast-but that just means you're learning something. Everything looked and sounded delicious. And please just mostly enjoy being home. One or two quick hits, maybe, things you only see there. But nothing that's much effort or time spent. You've got people there who'll cherish every moment they can spend with you. : )
Meanwhile, I ate mackerel and shrimp oatmeal for breakfast LOL! Fish for breakfast isn't bad at all. Things that are very savory and salty go well with mild grains like grits, oatmeal, or rice porridge 😋
@@Taricus Haha I'm not saying it's wrong and bad, just that I'm not in the habit and may never quite think of it as a breakfast thing. Like the roasted tomato in the full English-the first time I saw that the tomato just looked sad and defeated and not appetizing at all. I'm as adventurous an eater as most you'll find, like a B+ or A-, but some things I just say not today on. : )
Hello and สวัสดีค่ะไพลิน Have fun in Thailand Plenty to enjoy Thai foods and snacks I have missed Thailand a lot พี่เป็นคนเชียงใหม่ ชอบทานข้าวเหนียว น้ำพริก ชอบปลาทอด แถมไข่เค็ม yummy Bye
Cute herb garden. :) My mother wasn't a gardener at all, but it was okay! She used to haggle with the vegetable vendors to get free basil with her purchase.
You are so wonderful! I enjoy every moment of your videos that I have not so long ago discovered by chance in Russia. Yes, Russian quisine is TOTALLY different, but your simple and elaborate language describing the blast of Asian flavours, absolutely honest remarks and nice pieces of advice make you videos so exquisite! Thank you so much!
So happy to see you well and back in Thailand for a bit. My wife and I will be going back next year after the Covid 3 year hiatus. Typical morning meal =Fried pork with sticky rice and coffee. Here is the USA it’s Thai food 85% of the time.
I really admire that you dubbed for the quality of this video. If I'm not wrong, you also dubbed the sound of picking the basil, right? That was a lot of effort, and it's very lovely!
Hi Khun Pai, you´re so lucky! You really made me homesick with this entertaining video! of yours. I can´t wait to go back to visit Thailand for vacation again! Envy envy envy!!!😎
Love me some Pallin!!! Her videos and instructions are so easy to follow and do. I often refer her recipes/videos to others who wants to learn to cook Thai food. BTW... I make the same things for breakfast too, easy peasy and great to eat in the morning when you don't really feel like making anything major. Keep up the AWESOME work Pallin!!!
Such a cute video! I loved seeing the daily foods and how your family was creative with spicing it up. Also was surprised to see Maxvalu because I thought it was only here in Japan!
haha...you are an utterly charming and gorgeous woman and you know how to cook! Kudos to you and your life! You asked for us to share our own daily eating 'style' and I will comply. I'm married to my Filipina-born wife now and we've lived in the Philippines for the past nine years. We travel a bit each year, usually to places like Singapore (never again--too boring!), Bali, Vietnam, and of COURSE...Thailand. I'm a big fan of Thai cuisine and actually MET Andy Ricker in a small cafe in Chiang Mai a couple of months ago when we visited. It was a huge thrill for me! As for Thailand, I seem to manage to get there at least once-sometimes twice a year, and I usually stock up on Thai ingredients to bring home. When I was in Chiang Mai, I hoped to cook daily in our airBNB but the cooking facilities were minimal and they discouraged grilling, etc. so alas! I did spend a good deal of time at the Warorot Market for fresh ingredients--finding Cilantro ROOTS is next to impossible even in the Philippines. Breakfasts with my wife are simple fare; from oatmeal with nuts and fruit and milk to your standard scrambled egg. I've occasionally made a Thai-style fried egg but wife is picky--alas! Lunches are household staff prepare, usually Filipino food, but dinner is where I get to prepare whatever cuisine strikes my fancy--Italian, Spanish, French, Korean, and of course...Thai. Lately Ive obsessed over Kaeng Hung Leh (Burmese-style pork curry), I love to pound away with my krok and khao, and I recently made our supremely easy less-than-30 minutes deep-fried pork belly (twice-fried) dish with the Nam Jaew sauce. Well received again; so all in all, we enjoy our life, and while my wife is not keen on 'mai phed' (spicy?) or 'Kahang' dishes of a spice level too much for her, she's still willing. Cheers from the Philippines!
I am an American and lived in Thailand for 9 years and there is not a day that goes by that I don't think about Thai food. It is hard to get the proper ingredients but I try to eat Thai food once a week. The easiest thing to do is seafood because it is easy to make nam chim talay. But I do have some sardines in the pantry and I am making that dish tomorrow.
Welcome home back to Thailand!Be safe Be Healthy and Be safe! Your husband or boyfriend if have….should be the luckiest on earth having you! Daily eating great good food!
Oh wow! I loved everything about this video. The Thai "Coney Island" food looked amazing! I loved what I think was a Bonzai tree in the yard, and the dinner looked so tasty and delicious, like it won't have you feeling lethargic afterward. ❤ Your home looks so cozy. Thanks for sharing. I came on RUclips trying to find out how to make simple Jasmine rice, and I fell down the rabbit hole of your channel. 🤣 Such a happy day for me!
How nostalgic! When we go back to BKK the first meal we get is always kao tom (rice porridge) and nam tofu (tofu milk)! That with the corner store som tum kai yang (papaya salad with grilled chicken) + sticky rice. Ah missing home, thanks for sharing!
@3:22 Oh...I think that deep-fried, crispy holy basil is delicious (I could eat it with every meal). You dinner was lovely (and looked to be delicious, also).

I'm so happy for you being back home after a long period away - enjoy yourself. The last time I was in Thailand was 2017 I definitely need to go back. That food for dinner made me hungry 👍🏻 Normally I only eat 2 meals a day with a protein shake, a couple juices & lot of water. I like eating breakfast & dinner or an early lunch & dinner.
Awwwwe I’m so jelly your vid makes me homesick haven’t been back to Thailand since the pandemic despite I’m way closer to the homeland then you the land down under but me mum and sister are coming for a visit in a couple of months I’ll ask her to help DIY Thai herbies garden in me backyard just like your dads hopefully they’ll survive the cold Have an awesome holiday 😃

Hello Pailin! Love your videos esp this one with your family in Thailand. We lived for 5 yrs in Thailand and we love Thai food sooo much. I always refer to your videos everytime i want to cook Thai Food. Thank you
If you want to have fresh basil on hand, you might consider an Aerogarden or other hydroponic garden. No outdoor garden space needed. They have some very compact models and basil is one of the easiest things to grow in them!
Yeah. I made my own green curry paste once, it was awesome, but I hardly have the time or energy to do it repeatedly. Quite satisfied with the stuff in my jar, and canned coconut milk. Time savers are a blessing. But that fish... holy mother of... I wish I was at your table. That looks so good.
I _love_ all of Pailin's videos but this has got to be one of my favorites -- the home-cooked and store-bought meals, the side garden with its stringy herbs and random papaya trees, that homey kitchen with the charmingly mismatched crockery and cutting board well-worn from use, all serve up an authenticity that jumps out from the screen and homeruns the message that Thai cuisine and cooking (I suppose _any_ cuisine and cooking actually) are part of real, every day _life_ in the real world, not some abstract, exotic thing out of a cookbook. Calamansi is small citrus used a lot in Filipino dishes and sauces. Its taste is like a cross between a lemon and a lime.

Cute herb garden. :) My mother wasn't a gardener at all, but it was okay! She used to haggle with the vegetable vendors to get free basil with her purchase.
SO GLAD YOU ARE COOKING LOVING YOUR VIDEOS LOVE FROM USA
eating meals with family is always heartwarming and makes you want to eat more...no matter what mood you are in that day...
i really miss bangkok...the food, the atmosphere, the night markets...will definitely visit bangkok next year...
I love all your video always makes me drool with the food you show and you have a beautiful daughter
Didn't know you were back you just came up random. I grew up on your channel 20's years.... (Edited, my late 20's) . Happy now
So lovely to see you having time with your family
seafood sauce is the godliness. i don't do spicy but, man, that yum with the dried shrimp is ALWAYS glorious.
have a lovely visit!
So happy to see you well and back in Thailand for a bit. My wife and I will be going back next year after the Covid 3 year hiatus. Typical morning meal =Fried pork with sticky rice and coffee. Here is the USA it’s Thai food 85% of the time.
I got onto the Thai smiley fish brand of sardine in tomato sauce , made the salad … wow !! I’m so happy with this simple dish !! Thanks heaps !!
I really admire that you dubbed for the quality of this video. If I'm not wrong, you also dubbed the sound of picking the basil, right? That was a lot of effort, and it's very lovely!
What an amazing desert rose you have in your front porch! It has such a huge stem!!
Thanks for sharing, I miss Thailand and Thai food so much.
Thanks for sharing all your wonderful Thai Food recipe! Hopefully one day I can come to Thailand enjoy my favorites Thai dishes.
Thai food is my happy place. I love these videos. Thanks for the great content.
It is SOOO amazing to see you Pailin!

Oh wow! I loved everything about this video. The Thai "Coney Island" food looked amazing! I loved what I think was a Bonzai tree in the yard, and the dinner looked so tasty and delicious, like it won't have you feeling lethargic afterward. ❤
Your home looks so cozy.
Thanks for sharing.
I came on RUclips trying to find out how to make simple Jasmine rice, and I fell down the rabbit hole of your channel. 🤣
Such a happy day for me!
How nostalgic! When we go back to BKK the first meal we get is always kao tom (rice porridge) and nam tofu (tofu milk)! That with the corner store som tum kai yang (papaya salad with grilled chicken) + sticky rice. Ah missing home, thanks for sharing!
You know what i find interesting? No matter where we currently lived. The home we built. But, We always refer to the place we grown up as "home".

thanks for sharing , I miss Thailand so so much.
You guys are so expert in peeling crab shell.
It is hard for me
I'm so happy for you being back home after a long period away - enjoy yourself. The last time I was in Thailand was 2017 I definitely need to go back. That food for dinner made me hungry 👍🏻 Normally I only eat 2 meals a day with a protein shake, a couple juices & lot of water. I like eating breakfast & dinner or an early lunch & dinner.

Thank you for sharing! I am curious what the beautiful and unique bonsai pink flowering tree is to the left of you when you were standing in the driveway (5:00)? I just saw a reply to another comment. Thank you! 🙏
Hi! She tells me "The plant is called a desert rose. That one is a particularly spectacular one but during its "down season" without much bloom, my dad's pride and joy." Cheers! Adam
@@AdamHotThaiKitchen Thank you!
@@heartoflotus Any time! :)
Hello Pailin! Love your videos esp this one with your family in Thailand. We lived for 5 yrs in Thailand and we love Thai food sooo much. I always refer to your videos everytime i want to cook Thai Food. Thank you
OoooooOOoh winter melon in curry yaaaas. Gotta remember to add some in my next gaeng.
Also, great tip & easy way to spice up canned fish/ meats.
If you want to have fresh basil on hand, you might consider an Aerogarden or other hydroponic garden. No outdoor garden space needed. They have some very compact models and basil is one of the easiest things to grow in them!
Oh I just loved this little video! So simple. Just a glimpse into your eating day in Thailand. How perfect. I’ll try the canned fish recipe.
I love this video !!! I lived abroad for a few years and I love what local food and eating habits are for real !! 🥰
Yeah. I made my own green curry paste once, it was awesome, but I hardly have the time or energy to do it repeatedly. Quite satisfied with the stuff in my jar, and canned coconut milk. Time savers are a blessing. But that fish... holy mother of... I wish I was at your table. That looks so good.
I love this home cooking video. I love to see what you eat everyday. What a beautiful slice of life!
