  • I get a lot of questions from you guys asking about my "back story" because after years of doing videos, I've never taken the time to really introduce myself to you and tell you who the heck I am! So here's a video where I tell you where I came from, how I learned to cook, and how I came to do what I do now on RUclips. I hope you enjoy it and feel like you know me a little better!

    About Pai:
Pailin “Pai” Chongchitnant is the author of the Hot Thai Kitchen cookbook, co-host of a Canadian TV series One World Kitchen on Gusto TV, and creator and host of the RUclips channel Pailin's Kitchen.
Pai was born and raised in southern Thailand where she spent much of her "playtime" in the kitchen. She traveled to Canada to study Nutritional Sciences at the University of British Columbia, and was later trained as a chef at Le Cordon Bleu culinary school in San Francisco.
After working in both Western and Thai professional kitchens, she decided that her passion really lies in educating and empowering others to cook at home via RUclips videos, her cookbook, and cooking classes. She currently lives in Vancouver, and goes to Thailand every year to visit her family. Visit her at hot-thai-kitchen.com

I love watching your shows. When I watch your shows it gives me this feeling of Thai Pride because growing up I did not have that many Thai female stars to look up to here in America. I'm a mix of 3 different kinds of asian. I'm Lao, Thai, & Chinese and even though you live in Canada, you're still "North" American to me lol 😉😄😁. I am so thankful that youtube was able to help you launch your career and I'm so thankful that you've found success beyond it. We need more strong asian female role models in the world especially in these tough times. So thank you Pai, you are an amazing human being. Please keep making more shows. Can you make one about how you met your hubby and what was your first meal you ever cooked him? Mine was what I thought was "american" spaghetti Lol. My hubby is caucasian and today is actually his birthday. We've been married for 9 years, but when we first met I didn't know how to cook anything "american" besides my mom's version of American spaghetti. Because growing up she only cooked Lao & Thai food and "spaghetti" was the only American thing she would make once in a while.

Pai. Thanks for sharing your story. You connect very well with your viewers. I have been to Thailand 22 times over the past 11 years and have fallen in love with the culture, the people and the food as I have worked with orphans in the north. Discovering your channel two years ago was a blessing. Watching you cook wonderful dishes teleports me mentally back to the land, people and the food I love.

It's interesting to me that when you went to New Zealand you thought all the food there was new and exotic. Here in Australia when Thai food started to become more readily available, to me, it was new and exotic. It instantly became one of my two favourite cuisines, Lebanese food is my other favourite.

I'm so happy to hear your personal story. I would also like to say that you have a lot of humility in that you didn't start out talking about yourself. You got straight into the work, and people have responded well to you over time. Sometimes people see a new face in the media and assume that person is an "overnight success". Not so. It takes time to learn your craft, and the learning process never really ends. Congratulations on your success, and I'll be looking for your cookbook too!

Thanks Paid for giving this glimpse into your background. I recently got your cookbook and it is absolutely amazing how much work and effort you put into it. It's not just a cookbook, but also an educational reference for Thai customs and goes into so many intriguing details. Really a "must have".
I am sure you will do a lot more amazing things in the future.... 🙏🙏👏👏🤗🤗

hey Pai, congrats, and we can see you have worked so hard to make it where you are. Your passion for cooking and a radiant smiling face always makes one feel fresh while watching your videos. Best part is the clarity in your presentation, and I believe that is a key takeaway. With love and best wishes from Bangalore aka Bengaluru.

Oh dear, how much do I know the struggle of not landing in the restaurant industry... I happend to end up as a fine dine waiter after highschool, which led to becoming a barkeeper and eventually to... a job in marketing. Although they don't have much in common, I wouldn't have gotten the job without the experiences of the culinary industry.
Even though I am out of this branche for over a year now, my heart still skips a beat when entering a marvellous bar and usually my first thought will always be "could they be hiring?" :)
Congratulations on what you've made of yourself and thank you very much for your charming introduction!

I love watching your videos. Makes me miss Thailand. I was born in Bangkok to an American mom and Malaysian Dad. I never really learned to cook thai food. These videos are great and easy and dooable for me! Keep up the great work.

Wow what a great story. I came across your youtube channel when I moved out from mom a couple years ago and was interested in learning how to cook pad thai for the very first time. Thank you for all the key ingredient and recipes. You explained it very clearly and I love how you give more knowledge what they are.
