- The G Wagon window regulator is a known to fail part. Not only on Mercedes G wagons but other Mercedes models as well. Replacement window regulators can be very expensive. However, installing them is actually very easy and can be accomplished with some simple tools and a little know how. On this 2013 G550 I replace the driver side rear window regulator. It is a very straight forward job and is for the most part the same on most G wagon models in the United States. The only tools required for this job are plastic pry tools , Torx bit screwdriver set mainly T30 ,T27 ,T20, and flathead/Philips head screwdriver. Suction cups made the job of holding the window in place much easier during the repair. This entire job only took 1.5 hours with filming. I believe most DIYrs should be able to tackle this job. Great video. This was less complicated than the front door latch replacement I did awhile back but your video made understanding the alignment of the replacement regulator simple. Thanks for the simple explanation. Worst part is the several door card clips will break off when removing and I couldn’t find decent replacements. Ordered a “assortment package” of clips from Amazon and NONE of them fit my door. Ended up with 4 or 5 broken so door card is not a snug fit anymore. Will try to locate W463 specific clips and replace. Pro=tip for everyone: Do NOT forget to attach the door latch cable before buttoning up the door card then realizing you can’t open door and have to retrace your steps!!!

Thanks for this video. It was helpful. Anyone who owns a G Wagon needs to know how to change out the window regulator because it is only a matter of time before it breaks. The cable spool is poorly made. I think I’ve had to change out 5 or 6 in two trucks over the past 15 years. A couple recommendations for everyone: 1) label the wires and connection points (1-1,2-2,3-3,4-4,5-5) with a piece of tape when you disconnect them. My recent spool break occurred on a Saturday afternoon. I couldn’t order the parts until Monday and didn’t get them until Wednesday afternoon. A long time to remember which wire connects where. 2) The zip ties would not fit so I braided some wires and tightened with a dowel rod to secure the window until the parts arrived. 3) Order 12 door card clips when you order the window regulator. They are going to break when you pry the card off and the rear doors need 12. Make sure all 12 holes are clear or you will get to be frustrated when you are juggling the door with one hand to protect the wiring and the card will not seat 4) Place a piece of tape on the handle side of the door direct behind the clips. It makes it easier to line up the clips and holes at the top of the door and shows you where to press at the bottom and sides to ensure it is seated properly. 5) For my 2015 I needed to a T25 to remove the screws not a T30. Don’t try to remove them with a flathead or a hex! Thanks again!

You’re the only video I can find online, but I really need is a driver window trying to figure out where the wires go. The window keeps getting caught on the window. Driver window has two metals bars not one

Having this problem with my G55 now (thanks for the video!!). Still haven't come to terms with changing such a big part because a wire is broken, seems like such a hustle.
You might be able to use your old motor and only replace the regulator. Sometimes that takes a bit more doing and hopefully your new regulator fits the old motor etc. I’ve done it on a C230 but it was a bit trial and error.
@@KRTLyfe That is my plan but still seems like such a waste. Over $400 for a part that really only needs a couple of new wires that should cost no more than a couple of $ :p

I’ve done this replacement several times now and it’s more a pain in the neck than a hard job. Messy and potential for broken bits. Good luck all.
After you do it the first go, It is much easier the next time round.
My 20 year old g is a labor of love.....thank God it doesnt have all the electronics of these new euro cars.... Ebay has everything you just got to be patient unless you really need it...

Nice. I am having issues with my windows, i really don’t want to do it lol. I was thinking of greasing them first and hopefully that helps. They have trouble coming down but slide right up. I also need to re-glue my door seals as they came apart. Also do you get water in your car i have noticed my carpet damped after a rainy day front and back and trunk
I could've sworn I replied to your comment let me try this again. Your window rails could be lubricated that might help a bit. The door seals I recommend changing the entire thing out over the years they lose some of the sealing ability. The dampness in you vehicle is more than likely the sunroof drains being broken or clogged. You can check this by opening the sunroof and pouring a small amount of water into the drain holes. Then inspect the bottom of the car to make sure the water is making it all the way down and leaking inside the vehicle. I had a broken drain hose in the passenger side A pillar. I had to pull down a portion of the roof liner and replace a bit of broken hose. It was a fairly simple repair.

I love the video. I was wondering if you know if the front replacement window regulators parts and process are any different from the back windows? I have to change both my fronts.
The process is very similar I would double check the part number to insure you got the right part. Thank you for watching I hope this helps.
The part numbers are different from the front to the back and the side to the side. Each door as an individual part number for the window regulator. Also, some of the window regulator parts for the 2002 w463 model year - are a little different.
I did replace the front driver and passenger window regulators as I purchased aftermarkets parts from Carparts.com. I paid $324 for both which included shipping and CA sales tax. It wasn’t hard to do the installs as I asked my brother in law to help me. I recommend taking pictures of before connections as that helped a lot.

Can I replace the door panel clips around the edge of the door without taking the screws out of the center (so replace the outer clips without removing the whole door panel)?
You could give it a try but I think it is easier to remove it.
Great video. I need to change my door lock actuator on my g63 front passenger. Once the door panel is removed is it hard to replace the actuator? thank you
I've never had to replace an actuator. I can't imagine it being much more difficult tho. Getting the door panel off should be most of the work involved.

What is the purpose of that small square shape on the front window drivers side
It is a sensor, you can open/ close all the windows and sunroof. Most models have it.
I got the window fixed but when trying to put the panel back on I can not get the door latch to work. Do you have a video on how to do that?
Make sure you reconnect the cable properly. It has two connection points. A point that holds the sleeve and another that pulls the inner cable.
My 2013 gwagon 550 command station (the thing that looks like a TV )shows different colored lines while on. The radio and cd works. Do I need to reset? If so, how when I can't see a clear screen... Or Do I need to replace? Also, what is the box for underneath driver's seat?
Sounds like you might need to replace it unfortunately. I believe the box you are talking about might be the seat controller.
Did you ever get a Hi/Lo neutral warning when the driverside door was open?
No, the door and the gear box are two separate systems. You will get that warning when you gear box isn’t happy for some reason.

I have seen them sold as different parts on some models but typically the entire window regulator is one part.

Thanks for the great video. Everything went great until I tested the window. When I power down the window it goes down at an angle (which was why I replaced the regulator). Any idea what I need to do to correct this?
WaiterWallet is the window connected to the regulator properly? There should be two screws holding it to the regulator.
@@KRTLyfe I must have missed that step in the video. Are those the two screws where you had the zip tie? I thought that was were you attached/screwed the top of the regulator to the door panel. If that isn't the case, can you please help with the steps I'm missing? Thanks and GREAT video!!!

Depends which year G wagon you are taking about. If you are taking about the Midrange speaker I’m pretty sure the answer is no. If you are talking about a tweeter on a newer model possibly but you might run the risk of breaking a tab.

What kind of scanner do you have?
Base Bowman my scanner is very rudimentary. I did not use a scanner performing this repair.
I know, I was just asking since you do a lot of repairs. And sometimes you need a scanner to relearn modules.
Base Bowman yeah, I need to get a better scanner unfortunately for most of the things I “want” to do. I would need Mercedes STAR and PIWIS and a PC to load all the updates. So for now I take my cars to EuroFed when I need anything like that done. I’ve also had less than stellar experiences with scanners on Amazon. For example I had an SRS light on my C230 Kompressor. I got a scanner the adapter etc. and the thing still wouldn’t communicate with the car properly and I didn’t have the time or patience to try and troubleshoot it with the vendor.
