  • In this job I return to a nursery where I did a big job last year. I've returned as they had an insurance inspection carried out and discovered that a fan in their kitchen hasn't been working. So I return to investigate.

    Hi as far as I know those canopy’s should be connected to a valve on the gas pipes so that when the canopy’s goes off it isolates the gas supply to the appliance the canopy is for, to prevent it being used, I believe you may need to look into that as it does not meet regulations. I believe it’s called a gas interlock system I’m not 100% on it as I’m only a domestic installer not criticising or judging just don’t want you getting any issues with it.

      @randomcamerajunk6977 2 года назад +2

      Depends when the kitchen was installed. The regs changed but it not applied retrospective. You just need to complete a risk assessment and install signage and training to instruct cooks to operate ventilation when using equipment

    • @stephenwilliams6103
      @stephenwilliams6103 2 года назад +1

      Yes Raja, I agree with random camara junk, it all depends on when the extractor was fitted to what the regs were🤔, at that time. But, possibly now🤔, the gas cut off monitor should be fitted as it is a commercial kitchen, especially it being a nursery school with young children being there. Let's prey🙏 & hope that they get one fitted🙂🇬🇧

      Solenoid valves and gas interlock systems are now regulation in commercial kitchens, not sure about the whole retrospective thing.

  • @First_Principals
    @First_Principals 2 года назад +8

    Commercial cookers normally have a gas cut off that shuts the gas off automatically incase of a fault.
    Look for something like a solenoid on the gas pipe.

    Hi Del great content as always.that gas range is a commercial catering appliance and will require a gas interlocking system as per Gas Regulations.

  • @matthewdenham9143
    @matthewdenham9143 2 года назад +9

    Del I have to agree with the other comments, I'm pretty sure there has to be a gas interlock installed on commercial gas systems where if the fans fail then the gas won't come on. Might wanna check up on that though mate just in case you get stitched up

      I was just going to say that, that switch is not only old but illegal now, if it's any kind of commercial kitchen (especially in a nursery) it has to have a gas interlock with a control unit on the wall, and it would tell you either power not going to or from the fan. The guys who tested would have told her. In most typical cases people don't listen and call another electrician to come turn on what the last guy just turned off.

  • @edc1569
    @edc1569 2 года назад +4

    You got to be pretty tall to be able to operate that switch - wouldn't be surprised if next inspection they tell you to move it to somewhere where it can be conveniently operated

    Sorry, but you could clearly hear that fan running, how on earth did they not notice it wasn't working. Yes, you missed a cable, but quite honestly they should have picked up on it sooner.

    • @Fishbait075
      @Fishbait075 2 года назад +2

      Totally agree. It's almost like you had to shout over it once it was switched on. No way if you worked in that kitchen, that you wouldnt think "wheres that noisy fan gone".

      Cope out excuse. Del boy should of done an end to end and found out where the coiled up cable went rather then leaving it out and leaving the onus on nursery staff to find what it did. I just hope he didn't charge.

      @@in4rr0w79 R1+R2 continuity test. Connect cable by the board between Line+earth and have a look. It could well of been a disconnect cable hidden in a wall, but best to check everything on the surface before you presume. Also the breaker would have been on before he even did the board change. Another reason to but it back as you found it

    Brother Those fans should be connected to the gas supply, If the fan is not working means they wont have gas to cook they defenely know when the fan stoped working.

    Del.. i'm just a normal electromechanical engineer.. (lift industry) no experience in household or commercial work but I can imagine what would have been said if you started hooking up (unconnected) cables to the DB that weren't in there previously! (probably when the fire started).. you replaced a distribution board I presume.. one for one. You can't win sometimes.

    The point is also the extract hood should be interlinked with the Gas burners so the Gas will not switch on unless the fan is running. No fan no gas.

    R1 R2 / polarity u don’t need to see but test first dead & u test insulation…
    Full test when u change board to know what is what on all the terminations ( sockets , lights ….)
    U just told us u put power & ask if everything is working 🤔🤔🤔.
    I understand u have 50 years of practice but a statement like this ….
    If u change the board u left a big switch that u didn’t open to test , we all do sometimes don’t test a hidden socket or a switch but we are talking about a big double size switch in kitchen …
