  • Have a clogged garbage disposal drain? I hope you have an accessible clean-out available to snake out the clogged drain. If not be prepared to open your wallet to have one installed, cause chances are the disposal will have to be removed to clean the drain line.
Every time I run across a job with a garbage disposal a relatively simple fix turns into a major production costing the customer way more than it should. In this video, I walk you through my process of installing a proper and accessible clean-out to avoid doing this again in the future!
    Regards & Happy Plumbing!

Here in michigan I don't know anyone without a garbage disposal, without issues. I could imagine living without one with the way my wife cooks

Bob - you give really good advice and your recommendation to incorporate a clean out is universally the best advice. I am not being disrespectful but you plumbers are funny buggers. I am not a plumber and I have cleared out a blocked garbage disposal, including dropping the unit completely, snaking out the drain lines and reassembling within 90 minutes, and that in a small house in the U.K. in an extremely congested under sink cupboard. I think plumbers must be pretty spoiled and over used to easy working conditions - but I earned my spurs as an engineer working in Frigates and submarines where inaccessible meant removing major equipment to gain access and fitting universal joints to both your elbows.😉

Not necessarily the disposal, but when the drain clogs and there are no clean outs. One big P.I.A. JOB.

@@BobsPlumbingVideos oh Bob I don't disagree with you in any way shape or form I'm just saying I have a little bit of respect for well a lot of things I guess I try not to mistreat things I've never had much of anything that I've bought repaired now when you come into someone else's property a lot of times they definitely abuse it. To be honest sometimes I don't even like to have somebody like that in my house or my car they just don't treat things nicely

I tie a rag around the snake head to help clean out those drains many times. Just running the snake alone won't dislodge the stoppage a lot of times. Kind of like a self sealing clog. Spaghetti seems to be the worst offender for creating that kind of clog, in my experience. And a lot of people don't know to turn the water on FULL (cold) when using the disposal. Saw one commercial disposal setup once where a pressure switch was connected to the cold water line of the sink and to the disposal switch. Disposal would not come on unless there was practically zero cold water pressure. Thought that was an excellent idea!!

Hmm, it must be some NY thing. In 30y I have had next to no problems with garbage disposals, they are great. I did have some issues with a disposal in California, it was very old (and a crappy model/product) and it filled with rust.

The most abused appliance ever. And Thanksgiving and the Friday after were the worst. I tell customers “you wanna use a disposer, you better run the water down to the street”

About 10 years ago I used to have a Puerto Rican tenants she would not stop complain that her drain pipes in the kitchen would clog up and it wasn't her fault. She used to put all kinds of rice and pork fat down the drain in the kitchen sink and I think she did have a garbage disposal under the sink. She would drive me crazy always blaming the building and not her own ignorance

I have no idea how you do that stuff Bob. You pull your hair out every time you have to deal with this kind of stuff and these kinds of people. I couldn't do it. Also you have a good knowledge no doubt of how all the piping connects behind the walls. Even with all of that knowledge it's still super aggravating to you and would be 10 times worse to a guy like me

Yes, I am not a plumber and I don't understand the love affair with garbage disposals. I scrape plates clean into the garbage and waste grease into an old container. I even have a drain screen in the sink.
