Jones and Bonham carried the band to a large degree. They were definitely amazing as a whole and Page was an excellent guitarist and producer but they needed that rhythm section holding them down throughout the songs.

It was a huge outdoor concert, on August 4,1979 there was over 210,000 fans. The August 11,1979 had about 218,000. I know watching the RUclips full concert, Plant said he was nervous to be back on stage, after 2 years.
Bonham’s drums shined in this song, and always has. The fantastic bass line would not be nearly as fantastic without Bonham’s consistent bass beat right under it. Their timing is perfect. And then the stutter beats, immediate stop of all music, and split-second restart of the beat, with all band members perfectly in sync. Perfect timing, at a point that almost sounds like a mistake, but you realize that it was intentional because they do it again 3 or 4 or 5 times. I was closely watching for little segments of video where you can see Bonham’s incredible stick work, and towards the end we’re blessed with a couple of clips showing him, in the zone, sticks just flying around his drum kit! Just amazing!!! I’m a huge Jimmie Page fan, but on this one, you’ve just got to pay attention to Bonham! Thanks for playing this one. Kashmir and No Quarter are my two favorite songs, but I pretty much love them all. (Except for maybe Stairway to Heaven, but that is because it was so extremely over played back in the day.)

It’s a classic. And your comments about the band as a unit are spot on: when Bonzo died, they unanimously said: ‘incomplete we can’t continue’. It’s already mentioned below, but most nowadays probably know the riff from the Godzilla soundtrack and the song because it was the soundtrack of Thor:Ragnarok, and actually featured when he fights Hella. But the basic of this riff has been sampled a lot throughout rock as well as hiphop; Come With Me (Diddy), Signifying Rapper (Schoolly D.), heck even Beyonce used it live. It’s one of those bits of music that are just universal, which is amazing. Page actually got to it by noodling in DADGAD, which is a kind alternative way to tune your guitar. What’s not to like… Have a good one and keep it up!
Absolutely. Corey mentioned (I think on 'When the levee breaks') how Led Zep 'let the music ride' and the studio version of this is a classic example. Space!!
Love it! Edit: you MUST watch 2007 celebration day one off concert version (live). I know many others have recommended it…but to see them almost 30 years after they broke up…goosebumps every time. Also, find the lyrics and read them. It is a beautiful song about being in a foreign land (Morocco. They call it “Kashmir”, but it was about the people of North Africa.
I saw PLANT AND PAGE in concert in 1997 touring for an album they just completed (walking into Clarksdale). Robert came out and announced to the crowd, "We have a contract with our record company that legally we must perform at least 3 songs from the new album........let's get them out of the way,,,Huh?" They then played 3 new songs quickly, and then the lights went down, .......and we got a 2.5 hour Led Zep concert (without Bonzo and JPJ) and It was the best show I will ever see in my life.
The Walking Into Clarksdale tour was 1998 not 1997. Also, can you name the venue or city where you attended where Plant made this comment and the band played the new songs first "to get them out of the way! "? I will check the bootleg tapes.
I saw their Fate of Nations tour in 93 at Oak Mountain Amphitheater in Birmingham. It was in September with perfect weather. Felt like I was listening to LZ.

This song is about Plant (singer) & (Page) lead guitarist, driving through the Sahara Desert on their way to a music festival in Morocco. How the desert seemed to go on forever, & how it all looked the same. Meeting the people of Morocco who seemed to live in a long ago time, & not understanding each other’s languages, but music brought them together. It really doesn’t have to do with Kashmir, as none of the band members had been there. I’d guess it just flowed better then Morocco. This is the song the band is most proud of, as the music took roughly 2 years to write & figure time signatures. Though Jimmy Page was at the height of his heroine addiction, & the band hadn’t played in 2 years, after Robert Plant lost his 5 year old son they sounded amazing. Watching the full concert video on RUclips, Plant had said how nervous he was to perform again. Plant fell in love with Morocco & the people, he still visits often to this day. P Diddy used this music for Come With Me, I saw a video of Jimmy Page playing guitar for him live. Led Zeppelin only has a couple songs that aren’t great, yet they aren’t horrible either. The band was musicians from around Morocco, I think Plant said there was still a language barrier, but it sound’s beautiful too. I’ll be honest, I’ve learned so much about the band, by watching their interview videos. Mostly interviews with Plant & or Page, they are so great to watch, their knowledge & passion for music is incredible.
I was lucky enough to see them twice in 1977 when John Bonham was still beating the skins....they were epic shows....no quarter....dazed and confused..... nobody's fault but mine.... Stairway to heaven...i was 17 and always had some great drugs❤🎉😂

This footage is from their performance at the Knebworth Festival in 1979, one of their last performances before John Bonham passed. Jimmy Page's blue shirt is distinctive from this show. Robert Plant and John Paul Jones both acquit themselves very well at this show.
That guitar Page is using is a Danelectro 3021. It was a guitar you could get in the early sixties from a Sears catalogue with a little amp included . No gear snob of the day would ever set foot on stage with one . Page made them popular .
Only 51k subscribers as I'm typing this but you guys are killing it keep it up! Never really got that deep into Led Zeppelin but always enjoyed the song Kashmir a very mystical thought provoking experience. Can't imagine how amazing this must of been live. Rock is definitely past it's prime atleast for now till it might have a surge again in future generations but we always have these videos and songs to go back too so it's definitely not so bad. That perm is crazy btw rockstars definitely revolutionized and challenged style standards for men back then till the 80's hair metal bands started dominating towards the end of rocks peak with the silly makeup and crazy colored spandex they wore. Not all rock bands were bad during the 80's though New Wave groups were popular and they definitely are some of my favorite groups of all time. Enjoyed seeing the smile on the older black gentlemans hair. Aside from Jimi Hendrix black people defined and generated what rock music was or as it was known back then rock n roll Chuck Berry comes to mind but there's plenty of other examples even women. Rediscovering music again and curious to where it'll take me and what might be the most stimulating and enjoyable this time around. I heard this song on the radio when I was 12. The DJ didn’t say who it was, or what song. This is back in the early 80s, no internet, no Shazam, etc. I obsessively listened to that station for 2 weeks trying to figure out what I had heard. I finally figured it out by talking to friends older siblings. This song was transformative in my understanding of what rock music, or just music could be.
You guys should now react to this song from there "Celebration Day" performance. Look at how much older they are, yet sound as amazing as this video here. John's son Jason plays the drums in that one. You'll be amazed.

Guys Surviving members of Led Zeppelin returned together for 1 time event named Celebration Day with their late friend and drummer, John Bonham's son, Jason Bonham on drums. This event was a tribute concert for their label, Atlantic Records' founder, Ahmet Ertegun with opening acts in 2007.

You know, Zep gets a lot of shit for their live performances post 75-76 years but after watching this again, this was what, 77? I think. They F'ing slayed this.
I love their albums but I went to a live concert in 76-77 ish at the LA Forum and it was so loud, I used cotton from my girlfriend’s aspirin bottle to save my ears. They literally hurt and I was on the starting line of drag racing for decades
Knebworth 1979. 150,000 people approx. 1977 was the year that Plants little boy died. They were off for two years. This was their first performance after that long hiatus…and after Bonham convinced Plant to stay in the band. His voice sounds stronger to me after that enforced break from touring. But he’s definitely less animated. For very understandable reasons
This was 1979. Actually I just read the reviews to almost every 1977 show and 90% of the reviews were stellar. I was a skeptic too but the recordings have never captured that live thunderous sound.

To me, the 4 of them together, are like 4 parts of the same musician. They are so tight & in sync, that even when they improvise, they all flow easily. Their live performances, songs are never the same each time they play, Page plays what flows from him & Plant sings what he’s feeling. A really great song to checkout is live at Earls Court the May 25,1975 version of In My Time Of Dying, that date has the best audio & visual, the other date I think got some damage. You should also try Kashmir live at Celebration Day, the 3 remaining members are in their 60’s, & John Bonham’s son Jason plays drums & they still have it. In My Time Of Dying is an old gospel song, & Led Zeppelin will take you to church.

Another great song by Led, is the Since I've Been Loving You the live version from 1973 at Madison Square Garden. You won't be disappointed.
John Bonham's drumming on here is phenomenal. The studio version of "Nobody's Fault. but Mine" is another great Zepplin song.
Great selection. I've heard complaints about Jimmy's playing during this show but it shows pretty damned good in Kashmir to me. Iconic piece of music history. Good show, guys.

Surviving members of Led Zeppelin returned together for 1 time event named Celebration Day with their late friend and drummer, John Bonham's son, Jason Bonham on drums. This event was a tribute concert for their label, Atlantic Records' founder, Ahmet Ertegun with opening acts in 2007.

You know, Zep gets a lot of shit for their live performances post 75-76 years but after watching this again, this was what, 77? I think. They F'ing slayed this.

I love their albums but I went to a live concert in 76-77 ish at the LA Forum and it was so loud, I used cotton from my girlfriend’s aspirin bottle to save my ears. They literally hurt and I was on the starting line of drag racing for decades

1977 was the year that Plants little boy died. They were off for two years. This was their first performance after that long hiatus…and after Bonham convinced Plant to stay in the band. His voice sounds stronger to me after that enforced break from touring. But he’s definitely less animated. For very understandable reasons

Actually I just read the reviews to almost every 1977 show and 90% of the reviews were stellar.
I was a skeptic too but the recordings have never captured that live thunderous sound.
Diddy the Diddler did a version of this with Jimmy Page for the Godzilla movie.
This song was ANOTHER instant classic from the BEST BAND ever, EVER!
This was their final concert on home soil for the original line-up.

Page and Plant consider this song their masterpiece. As "sick" as he was, Jimmy could still play beautifully
"White Pants" was Jimmy Page the guitarist, and John Paul Jones was on the keyboards. On the keyboard, he actually played the bass part there along with the rest of the keyboard instrumentation.

To me, the 4 of them together, are like 4 parts of the same musician. They are so tight & in sync, that even when they improvise, they all flow easily. Their live performances, songs are never the same each time they play, Page plays what flows from him & Plant sings what he’s feeling. A really great song to checkout is live at Earls Court the May 25,1975 version of In My Time Of Dying, that date has the best audio & visual, the other date I think got some damage. You should also try Kashmir live at Celebration Day, the 3 remaining members are in their 60’s, & John Bonham’s son Jason plays drums & they still have it. In My Time Of Dying is an old gospel song, & Led Zeppelin will take you to church.
John (Bonzo) Bonham switches 4 4 time to 5 4 time and Jimmy has to keep up! Brilliant song we don't have musicians like this anymore.,when Bonham passed most of my high school friends held a kegger in his honor! RIP JOHN BONHAM!
