One word is used less frequently than many others when attempting to describe what Funk is made up of. It's all those ingredients people mention, but more than anything else, it's FUN!😬! It's Fun to create and perform; It's Fun to listen to and dance to!

As Arrington states, Steve Washington could play all rhythm instruments. He played bass on Aurra's "Are You Single" and "Make Up Your Mind".

This is the most awesome interviews I've heard. Steve Arrington, thank you for explaining the group Slave and all who were a part of the band. Mark "Mr. Mark" Adams is my favorite bass player and was the most influentual in my bass playing. "Slide" was one of the first bass lines I learned in 1976-1977. Thanks Funknstuff for the interview

I agree. The formula they developed was unparalleled. The Concept is still my all-time favorite Slave album. SAHOF was just as stellar.

I Will Tell You What Happened To The Funk. In 1984,The Beginning Of A New Hell Began To Happen To The Black Musician. With The Arrival Of The Drum Machine And Mechanical Machine Operated Music, That Was Music, That Was It For he Funk. The Arrival Of Rap Began To Happen. The Music Industry Replaced The Black Musician With Two Turn Tables And A Microphone. Cost Cut. Remember When it Was 8 Or 12 In A Band, And The Horn Section? No More. The Culture Bandits Made Rap And Thuglife A Culture. And Heatwave Was Never Funky.. Heatwave Is Boogie Rhythm Soul. Rod Temperton Was Lost And Caught Up In The Boogie. The Boogie Is Not Funk. Within The Boogie, The Personal Funk Already Resides. Heatwave, Rhythmatic Soul Dance Pop Music. Riding The Boogie All The Time. Steve Arrington Is A Funk Soul Minister Of Another Form. Cosmic Way Out Accurate Soul Power In It's Purest Form.

After listening to "Just a Touch of Love" I noticed Steve Arrington singing A little James J.T. Taylor style. I never noticed it before until I heard one of his interviews saying he watched J.T. to get ideas on being up front singing.

Steve was great and it's unfortunately the band couldn't keep it together. He went on his own and did well. When I think of Slave, I think of Mark Adams and that booming base.

Good interview on contributing influences on funk and how it was fused. PFunk is an amalgamation of a lot of different types of energies. It has created a new immergent property. Funk genre allows us to tap into very experimental areas of music that are not appreciated enough in main stream. Very deeply rooted not just southern blues but also tribal and natural sounds (cyanamide) (chameleon by Hancock) . And then you have things like good thoughts, bad thoughts, literally spiritual, prophetic.
It’s very closely rooted to creative source energy and by the time things get to Main Street in they r too washed up, this music is part of life source - and so doesnt make it in the main stream, it’s extremely authentic, both in its light (cosmic highs) and it’s darkness (stank) Anything authentic has both. and that’s why it’s so electric ⚡️ alive emotive soulful & polarizing too.
In addition, there are artists that influenced the style, and then there are those like Bernie Worrell, who are literally creating in real time - he had a direct channel … and I give a lot of credit to Bootsy for his incredible experimentation and diversity over the years.
I love the comments about tapping in, and “when it’s moving me,” (same 🙏🤍💫) that’s exactly right ! That’s when the music is already there in the universe and we’re just tapping in - beautiful. That’s how art is a gift.
Glad I caught some of this, great interview & speakers.

IT'S Official. The entire music industry took advantage of the young artists. Funk, soul, even rock artists were screwed in the 1960s-1990s. Prince & MJ died fighting to give artists the right to own their own. Interesting today a few Rap artists got paid. WELL. No musical knowledge, sampling others & got movie deals, endrosements. Not all, just the top few got paid.
