“Always look for Jesus when studying the word cause then you will find life.”-Upperoom Insta
    Questions:
what does this teach me about God?
what does this teach me about man?
is there a sin to avoid?
is there a promise of God to remember?
is there an example to be followed here?
is there a command to obey?

@@marrymarry699 I didn’t say “I don’t expect to see African Americans who love God”
I said “I’m grateful to God that there are still Americans who love God”
      I referred to a nationality, I didn’t refer to a race. And it’s a kind compliment.
There’re always gonna be stereotypes about every race, including the African race where I belong and the last thing I’d want to do is personalize it or victimize myself 😂
We came to this channel because we’re Christians, maybe we should just stick to that 😁

6:02 Slander! 😂 Poor Tamar. I think you can definitely fairly reach the lessons you mentioned taking away from this chapter, but Genesis 38:26 literally has Judah saying Tamar has been more righteous than he as he had withheld his son from her.
She acted not out of animosity, but out of desperation: Judah was misusing a widow by purposefully denying her the ability to have children or the right to remarry outside of his family.
Tamar had been married to Judah's eldest son. As the wife of the eldest son, she was in a great place financially as well as socially: it was expected that her husband would inherit most of his father's holdings upon the latter's death and she would be taken care of even into her old age. Even if she were to outlive her husband, his holdings would go to their own sons, who would take care of their mother in her old age.
Unfortunately, she became a childless widow truth no fault of her own. She was married to her brother-in-law, Onan, to ensure she'd be cared for and so that she wouldn't lose her place in the family: still the wife of the eldest (surviving) son of Judah and her children would be the primary heirs of the family holdings.
Unfortunately, her new husband refused to give her children as he knew the children she bore would be his elder brother's children legally. When his brother had died without heirs, Onan became the principal heir of Judah; if he impregnated Tamar, then he would drop further down the line of inheritance again. This didn't stop him from using Tamar physically, even as he actively worked to prevent her getting pregnant. For insulting Tamar in this way and for denying her both the comfort of children and financial stability, God punished him.
Judah then promised Tamar that she would still be taken care of: he would marry her to his remaining heir and youngest son once his son was old enough to marry. In the meantime, he sent her away to be a financial burden in her father's household.
Time passed and though Judah's heir was old enough to marry, Tamar wasn't married to him nor was she given leave to marry anyone else: she was being left to grow old in her father's household with no guarantee that she'd ever have security into her old age.
Why did Tamar trick Judah rather than Shelah, Judah's last living son? Pure speculation: it could be that she thought Judah was most responsible for her current life circumstances, but I think it's most likely she found the thought of having relations with such a young person as Shelah to be repugnant.
It's possible that Tamar had animosity towards Judah, but I think she was just trying to become a mother and to regain her financial future and her social standing (the mother to heirs instead of an unwanted, burdensome widow).
Enjoyed your video! I agree with you that the SOAP method isn't for me: way too much of a slog. Thanks for sharing the questions you brought up: I'll have to try them during my next study!

One of the things that completely changed my understanding when reading the Bible was learning who the real genetic descendants of the ancient Israelites are. When you know who the Father’s Chosen people are it’s a light bulb moment. The Bible makes it very clear who the people are but unfortunately when you have been taught wrong all of your life, you don’t see it even when you read it.

You may want to try reading the New International Reader's Version of the Bible. It is written on a third grade reading level. It's generally great, but sometimes the language is so simple that shades of meaning are lost. It would make a great primary reading Bible or a great tool to use to check that you understood a verse if you like other translations better.

  •  3 месяца назад +1

Would it be helpful for me to read a chapter of a story and do this or a whole story? For example, should I read the entire book of Genesis and then do this method, or would I break it down into smaller sections?

    • @AmeraRecords
      @AmeraRecords  3 месяца назад +1

You could do it any way that feels most conducive to you learning. Personally I did this after every chapter I read, not after the entire book, but some chapters I find myself only able to answer 2 or 3 of the questions so you can definitely combine some and answer the questions for multiple chapters

Use this on whatever book you’re reading it can be done on any chapter. I started with the gospels but there’s no rules to the Bible. I like to save deep studies for last but this is just a preference. It honestly sounds like you have a good routine going don’t put too much pressure on it and play with your schedule to see what u can consistently stick to💕

Read the Bible but STUDY Christ! God did not send us a book. He sent us his son and he commanded that we listen to. (Luke 9:35)
Be a Disciple (student) of Christ. Not a student (disciple) of a book.
This is one of the greatest deceptions Satan has perpetrated: Getting individuals to place a book (that men named) in a holy position and elevate it above the ONE God sent to us.
Even on this video, your title does not mention Jesus, it mentions the Bible.
Jesus said that he is our Teacher. (Not a book) (Matt 23:8 and Matt 23:10)
If he is our Teacher, then we are to be his students (disciples).
Yet, most speak of being students of the Bible.
No book by any name should be elevated above our ONLY Teacher.
