  • Lots of P32’s from Metro North and Amtrak including a controversial MN P32 plus M7A’s. Unfortunately no M3A’s. The Hudson Line is the premier Metro North line without question.

    It's always interesting to see what Amtrak 290 has for power. For a while, it seemed like they left both P32-ACDMs on each end for the whole trip, but the one you caught had the rear unit taken off at Albany. I wonder if it's an equipment-availability thing.

      @3985uprr  Год назад +2

      Not sure but now that you mention it, that train supposedly had 2 units. Perhaps they can turn the train in Burlington

      @@3985uprr The closest wye to the Burlington station is up in Essex near where I live, but the lower leg of the wye hasn't been used in years. It's about 7 miles away from Burlington, on a line where most trains are limited to 15mph, so I don't think they're turning it up here. They *could* turn it at the old wye in Rutland (there's enough time in the schedule), but they didn't when I took 290 back in Sept 22. I rode in the business class section, and it was odd being right behind the engine and facing backwards the whole way down the Hudson!

    Loved the reference to Cary Grant and "North by Northwest," an all-time favorite movie - especially as, just this (Friday) morning, I booked a trip in the NYC "Hickory Creek" Observation car in autumn, NYP to Albany and back. Too bad, of course, that the trip cannot originate at GCT ;-)

    I agree that putting the mating worms on a NH locomotive is sacrilegious! Whoever did that should be fired and thrown out of the tri state area. That's a slap in the face to Train Man Paul, Ghost Engineer, and everybody else that works the NH line. And back in the day, I used to volunteer at the Hebrew Home for the Aged in Riverdale. You might be able to see it from the platform since its on the bluff. Many moons ago, the last train from GCT for the night was the 12:56am local to Poughkeepsie. Don't know if that train still runs.

      I so much agree! In my opinion there is a good amount of trains every hour even for a weekend which I like. I have been to Irvington twice on a Saturday. I have caught two of the moves you described. The first was a Branch Shuttle set coming from Croton Harmon after being refueled (it had 3 Shoreliners and a MNCW BL20GH). Then the next time caught a move of another Branch Shuttle set, but this time it has a doubleheader at the rear with a CDOT BL20GH & MNCW GP35R faced nose to nose.
