Instead of saying ""first", I just want to say, thank you Gamexplain. So much hard work and Percision In your Analysis videos. You guys are the best. Thank you for all the wonderful content.
4:46 This could also show that there are "Shoulder" buttons on the inside of the Joy-Cons, considering they're holding the joy-cons inside-up and drifting is a major part of Mario Kart which, usually, requires the shoulder buttons.
IF the console has a touchscreen, the middle part of the JoyCon grip might actually be a touchpad that serves as a substitute for the touchscreen while the screen itself is in the cradle during TV play. Could even potentially use haptic feedback type technology the likes of which we've seen in Valve's Steam Controller. Just a thought :)
There should be something. And I think that JoyCon thing is a power supply. Joy Cons are charges only during play time, when connected either to Switch of to that thig. But again, if you can play Joy Cons separately with your friend, than they should have good battery. That's why I don't know what that shit is for.
TristaManiac ! So you wouldn't use the Pro Controller for games that requires touch then? Problem solved. The important part in this scenario is that the console comes with ways to play with touch both at home and on the go out of the box, which it does ( again, in this scenario). The Pro Controller is just an extra add on. Just like on the Wii U, it wouldn't be expected to have a touch element to it.

For the gameplay, splatoon the boy and girl inklings had different hair cuts from EACH OTHER, not just the two that were in the first game. This hints severely at splatoon 2 coming to the switch
The switches you talk about for the joy-cons to be released can clearly be seen at 2min 26secs as small round buttons on the rear of them. You can even see the guy pressing them @ 1min 18secs to release them. Apologies if this has already been pointed out.
Something just struck me with regards to the two JoyCon controllers that comes with the system: the fact that they actually are two controllers. As a kid who grew up with a younger brother, I remember that with every console we ever got the issue of having to buy a second controller to be able to play together always became an issue; especially with N64 and beyond when controllers became more and more expensive (eventually as expensive as a whole game on its own). But now with the Switch, a second controller is always included in the base package, making multiplayer a feature by default! I realize many have commented on how those tiny things can't possibly be comfortable as separate gamepads. But not only am I reminded of thinking the same with regards to the Wiimote when held sideways (and being proven wrong), I also think of how small NES controllers seem to my hands nowadays, while as a child they where the perfect size. This leads me to think that these JoyCons are probably perfectly sized for young siblings to get their multiplayer gaming on, for a prize that more parents will be able to afford. And while that might not be a thing you advertise in big letters on the back of the box or in commercials, that's a pretty damn cool feature to me :)
My one and only concern about the Switch is the battery life of the console when it's not attached to the dock. It would defeat the purpose of having it be portable if there's only like a 3 hour battery life (*coughGamePadcough*). Heck, I'd be fine with something similar to the 3DS's battery life, at least I'm used to that.
I think Nintendo's already thought this through due to how big if a deal they are making the portable feature. I will be VERY surprised if the battery life sucks.
fahad khalid it's actually 100% confirmed there is going to be a pokemon game for this console. we don't know when or what it will be. look it up on serebii and scroll to you find the nintendo nx/ nintendo switch
+GameXplain The depression in the back of the console at 3:15 could possibly be a stylus slot. The right side of the slot seems thicker than the left, matching the shape of a common stylus.
Yay! It's here! You know, I really hadn't thought about the battery for the Joy-Cons... Now, all we need is a Nintendo Direct showcasing the launch lineup and the hype can skyrocket!
At 2:30 you can see a small round button on the right Joy-Con under the ZR button. Could that be the release button to detach the Joy-Cons from the console? Also, at 3:36 look at the black piece under the index finger of the hand (which would be on the top of the Joy-Con in its horizontal mode). Is that equal parts a connecting piece AND a shoulder button? Hard to say, but if you can play full games with those things horizontal, it'll need some sort of shoulder button, right?
"Doesn't have 30 minutes battery life" implying it'll have LESS than 30 minutes battery life :D (Because 8 hours battery would also have 30 minutes battery life, wait why am I explaining this?)
what I meant to say was, the Wii U rand out of battery quick (mine can't even hold a charge for 15 minutes now) I just hope it has a good bit of battery life to back it up
You can see a small circular button on the back of the Joy-Con at 2:25, I'm guessing that's the release mechanism. I'm also guessing there's no touchscreen because any touchscreen functionality would be lost as soon as you dock the unit to play on the TV, which would lead to an incredibly fragmented gaming experience.
So i noticed something small but pretty major at the same time, durring the scenes with the new Mario game, in the clip where Mario is running past a bullet bill, on the right in the background above a further on platform is a spinning heart, and I might be wrong, but last time we saw anything like that was back in Super Mario 64
I assume someone already pointed this out but just to be safe: At 2:26 that pic of the game cart actually shows the underside of the Switch, where you can see a small round button on the Joy-Con (R). It seems logical to me that this would be the release switch for the Joy-Cons.
my friend and i made a few more observations: 1. it looks like there are shoulder buttons when the joycons are by themselves on the top: every shot of someone using a joycon by its self have the exact same finger placement at the top and if you go frame by frame, theres something like a lable there and when the two ladies are playing, you can see outlines of buttons under their fingers. 2. it could possibly be usb-c cable: mainly guessing because of relative shape when we found a still on the video that shows the bottom' 3. to release the joycons, theres a button that you press and hold to unlock and slide: there's a pic on the slideshow that shows the back. we believe these buttons are the small round ones just past the shoulder buttons towards the inside 3. we can see on the pro controllers that there are player number indicator lights that are green: found during the later part of the splatoon section 3. my friend speculates that the dock has some hardware to upgrade the graphics when connecting to tv 4. each controller has abxy, joystick, + or -, unkown square button or home button, and the possible inside bumpers 5. the mario kart game is like mk8, but is different enough, and did we mention skyrim?!? 6. the stand that holds onto the car seat has openings for the cartridge, fans and possible speakers at the back these are all speculatory and are only based on observations and examples of past consoles
i just remembered that forever ago, there was a rumor talking about nintendo and its sharing services and uploading stuff to youtube and everything and i realized that a square with a circle inside it resembles a record button. it could be a record/share button for real
The release button from the Joy-Cons is actually a little circular button on the back just to the right of the main trigger (about half/third the size of the analog nub on New 3DS). I've seen it in other shots/footage. And, the Joy-Cons actually have two "shoulder" buttons along the inside connector edge too (the part where the connect to the main Switch "tablet" unit), which are used when holding them sideways in mini-gamepad mode. I've seen those in other shots/footage too. They're actually nearer the centre of the controllers rather than on the corners like most shoulder buttons, but this makes sense seeing how small these things are and how the tip of your index fingers naturally rest near the centre of the things while gripping them in this sideways mini-gamepad mode.
Guys, I know what the new mario kart is going to be called, Mario Kart Swiched, you can switch the 2 items you have, as seen in the trailer, but I'm just guessing
It's aa new MK8 update/DLC, nothing more. And they wouldn't name a game after a mechanic that was already possible in earlier games of the franchise...
5:18 you can see the conector for the JoyCons at the left side of the controller. So as far as I can see it will use those 4 clips to power the lights of the controller.
I'm getting GameCube vibes cus I feel like this is Nintendos big chance for redemption, I really hope the NS game lineup will be as godlike as the GameCube days
@2:24 you can see a button next to the ZL trigger, this is the release switch to slide off the Joy-Con I think. @4:24 you can clearly see him using his thumb and index finger to press and slide the Joy-Con off
Derrick, I think you can see the switch that disconnects the joy con from whatever device it's attached to. In the picture where you see the game cartridge going into the console, you get a clear view of the back of the right joy con. There's two triggers, then a small circular button closer to the console. I would assume that circular button disconnects the joy con. It also makes sense given that whenever someone removes a joy con in the trailer, their hand is near the top of it.
The switch is 2 sticks can turn into the gamepad on the Wii u, Wii stick and nunchuck like the Wii, standard controller like the Wii u pro controller and GameCube.... this console is Nintendo's consoles controllers combined!
Hey +GameXPlain ! Just to let you know that I think you did a marvelous job giving us further insight and "x-planation" of the Switch! I enjoy your channel very much! Continue to make great videos!
It was weird to hear them say how they're being used completely detached and then in the next sentence say it can't be known yet if they have their own battery.
i could be wrong but on the back of the joy-con controls os there a symbol that indicates a battery inside the controls! it looks like the little garage bin symbol with a x through it! 🤔
I think he meant whether they have standard replaceable batteries or are charged by the tablet or grip.. I'm sure the latter is the case though. The grip has a dedicated battery build inside for just that purpose no doubt.
Yeah it's orrite. Looks kinda funny. Abit bulky. I can't help but think they could have handled the controller better in some way. It reminds me of the original fat Xbox controller
Max Awesom I was thinking more Dreamcast. Still too soon, even for a guy who didn't play a non edutainment game until a year after they withdrew from console making
I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say that the empty space on the back of the Switch is where the connection for the Dock is hidden. It could be tucked inside there as to protect it form damage, and inserting the Switch into the Dock, could press down on the base of the Dock slot, triggering a mechanism the connection headers to press forward from the back of the Dock slot into the hole on the back of the console. Similar to how putting a 3DS into it's dock makes the connection spring out and into the 3DS to charge it. I'm gonna back this up with the fact that the back half of the Switch dock is thicker than the front, so this is where any major hardware would be housed. I doubt the dock will have exposed connection headers for such a crucial part of the system. Especially when you consider part of the primary use of the Switch is for it to not be in the dock, and for the dock to be empty. Best to keep those connections safe from the elements.
Also, having a cover... FINALLY. I'd been saying they needed a cover for cartridge slots... Or AT LEAST have the slot dented inward. Luckily they did both, so it looks good and will still protect the card from getting hit even if the cover ever breaks off.
Don't know if y'all noticed this: Going back to what you said about the Joy-cons, the small + and - buttons could be used detach them from the grip and reattach it to the console. I notice this at the beginning of the trailer, when the man was about to walk the dog, he pushed down the aforementioned buttons to detach the controller before slipping them on the console.
Kev Alman The companies I remember that Nintendo says are supporting the release: Sega (sonic 2017!!) Capcom Square Enix (kingdom half hearts life 3 confirmed!!!) Ubisoft Criware Bethesda (that was SKYRIM in that trailer) AND SO MANY MOOORE
The left Joy con button is probably there because both controllers need a home/pause button, so apart from the bumper buttons being mirrored, both have the same configuration and are equally useable. Though I love the idea of fights breaking out because one controller is 'better' than the other :)
You mention a button to remove the joysticks from the main unit and you also mentioned that this button cannot be seen. Actually it can be seen that at 2:27!
It looks like the button to release the separate Joycons is on the underside of them, you can see it at 2:28, just to the right of the trigger buttons.
I think the plus and minus buttons are how you disconnect the joy-cons, the guy from the trailer seems to be pressing them down as he pulls it from the grip. They probably also serve as a way to tell left from right, kind of like a battery. I wouldn't be surprised if there was a plus and minus on the side of the switch tablet screen we just can't see.
Hey guys, love your coverage as always... anywho, you mentioned the joy-con release button, but not seeing it. the 2:28 mark in your video tends to show it, little nub under the shoulder buttons
In regards to the close up of the bottom of the gamepad screen: I would imagine that the small mouse-hole-shaped piece is most likely a microphone, probably for chat or voice controls as the DS and 3DS have done in the past.
Idk if you've found it by now, but in the photo of the game card shot, the joycon right has a button next to the triggers (confirmed from picture) that has no purpose than what seems to disconnect it from the console/any controllers.
I'm actually pretty stoked for this. The WiiU looked a little clunky but this is something else. Having the option to play both ways will be really convenient.
Instead of saying ""first", I just want to say, thank you Gamexplain.
So much hard work and Percision In your Analysis videos. You guys are the best. Thank you for all the wonderful content.

RUMOR: NX is, oh...I guess those jokes are irrelevant now.
What's an NX?
Not yet anyway. There can still be rumors on what games will be at launch still after all.
But come March 2017, Switch Rumors are pretty much gone.
ChroXeneo It's the codename
IKR?! ISN'T IT AMAZING?!!
It's the end of an era...
For the gameplay, splatoon the boy and girl inklings had different hair cuts from EACH OTHER, not just the two that were in the first game. This hints severely at splatoon 2 coming to the switch
Or an updated port. Either way, looks great.
(And hopefully has local servers)
Hoping it's Splatoon 2, I don't want to have to buy Splatoon again even though I'd be willing to.
homesponge It was real. It was even on Bethesda's twitter
Other videos explain the games seen
homesponge It wasn't fake footage.
The NX rumors are over and we have a bright future for Nintendo. The dark ages are almost at an end my friends

I like how the the logo also reflects the sides that the "+" and "-" are on for the controls just like Yin and Yang.

Rumor: The NX is...
oh wait, looks like that meme is dead...
Good riddance
Hear, hear!
SegaNintendoFan The Nintendo SEX is actually a toaster with unlimited memes.
it runs on game carts... I don't even need to explain how much this blows.
SINCE WHEN DID IT BECOME A MEME?
My one and only concern about the Switch is the battery life of the console when it's not attached to the dock. It would defeat the purpose of having it be portable if there's only like a 3 hour battery life (*coughGamePadcough*). Heck, I'd be fine with something similar to the 3DS's battery life, at least I'm used to that.
My 3DS battery is on the fritz so I can't play without it plugged in.
It'd really help if they used standard (micro-b or type c usb ports) for charging, allowing us to use battery packs and the like.
PandoraDaFoxx or please have the option to use batteries like the Xbox one
i use my gamepad with a big extra battery screwed to it. surely there will be the same thing for this
I think Nintendo's already thought this through due to how big if a deal they are making the portable feature. I will be VERY surprised if the battery life sucks.
5:30 Does that mean amiibo support is coming to Nintendo Switch?! I hope that's the case.
I will buy it if they announce a new Pokemon game for it.
fahad khalid it's actually 100% confirmed there is going to be a pokemon game for this console. we don't know when or what it will be. look it up on serebii and scroll to you find the nintendo nx/ nintendo switch
fahad khalid wasn't it confirmed that sun and moon will come to the NX?
Thank you, I'm sold.
fahad khalid I don't think it's Sun and Moon, but gamefreak have confirmed a pokemon game for the Switch
I'm not sure, but any Pokemon game will be okay with me.
+GameXplain The depression in the back of the console at 3:15 could possibly be a stylus slot. The right side of the slot seems thicker than the left, matching the shape of a common stylus.
Guess you could say...
The back is really depressed.
Dellis R. if they get rid of touch controls...
I'll be depressed...
The ports at 0:55 seem more like HDMI ports to me.
My thoughts too, but I think it says USB in the middle.

I'm sure it can make pancakes.
Yes, it IS!

I wasn't gonna buy this but then i made a SWITCH
rude
I'm not going to SWITCH to this since I have a wii u and it's basically the same.
4:37 Oh yeah ProtoMario had a video how there is going to be detachable controllers but is it also wireless?
Great analysis! Be honest though. How many times did you have to rerecord the voice over because you accidentally said "NX" instead of "Switch?"
Damn, I'm early better make a joke

I always use my Wii U with low light and it lasts for more than three hours.
I too want to say thank you Gamexplain, I know its been rough waiting with all the rumors but you stuck through it all!

What about king boo in mario kart 8
what about splatoons different hairstyles
Watch the other videos
This is about the system itself and not the games itself
LuckyTaoBob its clearly a port of 8 it has tje same exact format and they are playing the same courses
Waluigi Master but you can hold 2 items and the course is Yoshis circuit
my friend and i made a few more observations:

3. to release the joycons, theres a button that you press and hold to unlock and slide: there's a pic on the slideshow that shows the back. we believe these buttons are the small round ones just past the shoulder buttons towards the inside
3. we can see on the pro controllers that there are player number indicator lights that are green: found during the later part of the splatoon section
3. my friend speculates that the dock has some hardware to upgrade the graphics when connecting to tv
4. each controller has abxy, joystick, + or -, unkown square button or home button, and the possible inside bumpers

i just remembered that forever ago, there was a rumor talking about nintendo and its sharing services and uploading stuff to youtube and everything and i realized that a square with a circle inside it resembles a record button. it could be a record/share button for real
Well, the Nintendo Switch logo for me looks like a *dominoes* piece more than anything else. lol
Little Mac none of that would surprise me, actually
Little Mac they already mentioned that in their last video
It's aa new MK8 update/DLC, nothing more. And they wouldn't name a game after a mechanic that was already possible in earlier games of the franchise...
It would surely just be Mario Kart Switch if they were going to go with that type of naming.
5:18 you can see the conector for the JoyCons at the left side of the controller. So as far as I can see it will use those 4 clips to power the lights of the controller.
I hope it has Gyroscopic controls. I don't know if I can play "Spla2n" without it.
Dashing Jack yeah, and it it does you could just slide it into a headset for VR
Dashing Jack Since Just Dance is coming to it, I'm sure it will
I hope it has touch screen for a super mario maker port
Dashing Jack Splat2n or SplaTWOn.
ParaMC Sam, that's the pun...
I'm always amazed at the analysis you guys do on these videos. Your attention to detail is unparalleled.
Fuck yes GameCube vibes idk why
Jose Salazar The normal controller looks like a game cube PlayStation hybrid
madmoblin normal controller is an xbox controller lol
Quantum Witcher Xbox controller is a gamecube controller*
Weeb uhh no,no it isnt. the C stick was smaller and X and Y were different shapes. Also it only had one bumper in the form of 'Z'
I'm getting GameCube vibes cus I feel like this is Nintendos big chance for redemption,
I really hope the NS game lineup will be as godlike as the GameCube days
this is so amazing
"Nintendo Switch", I'ma call it NS
im still going to say NX
Applez I like the NX name too
ASDF_ COBI people who call it NS are so retarded. What's so hard about saying switch? It's less syllables so easier to say lmao
Lemon Sweat I really like the name NX so NS is the next best thing for me, from calling it "The Nintendo Switch".
NS - NES
ILLUMINATI CONFIRMED
@2:24 you can see a button next to the ZL trigger, this is the release switch to slide off the Joy-Con I think. @4:24 you can clearly see him using his thumb and index finger to press and slide the Joy-Con off
I wonder if Joycon controllers have shoulder (L+R) buttons.
Alexander Aramaki they will
Alexander Aramaki they do on the plane you see they being used.
Sorry I should've clarified if it has both L and R in horizontal mini mode.
Alexander Aramaki Yeah they do bro just watch when the two guys in the van are playing Mario kart in two player mode.
I've been waiting for this video for the last year and a half. Thank you for this video.
Who would you elect as president?
a) Donald Trump
b) Hillary Clinton
c) Nintendo Switch
C
How does one come up with such a question?!? oO
Omni G Definetly c) man
Omni G C!!!!
The Virtual Boy, obviously
Hey +GameXPlain ! Just to let you know that I think you did a marvelous job giving us further insight and "x-planation" of the Switch! I enjoy your channel very much! Continue to make great videos!
Joycon would have to use a battery to be usable while detached
It was weird to hear them say how they're being used completely detached and then in the next sentence say it can't be known yet if they have their own battery.
Maybe they charge along with the tablet, or with the centerpiece when using them as a traditional controller.
OBSM Productions I agree that would work but it would need its own battery still
i could be wrong but on the back of the joy-con controls os there a symbol that indicates a battery inside the controls! it looks like the little garage bin symbol with a x through it! 🤔
I think he meant whether they have standard replaceable batteries or are charged by the tablet or grip..
I'm sure the latter is the case though. The grip has a dedicated battery build inside for just that purpose no doubt.
What a great and thorough analysis of today's switch announcment. I'm already making room on my entertainment system for it. Lol
Yeah it's orrite.
Looks kinda funny. Abit bulky. I can't help but think they could have handled the controller better in some way. It reminds me of the original fat Xbox controller
Max Awesom you mean the thicc Xbox controller
Max Awesom
I was thinking more Dreamcast. Still too soon, even for a guy who didn't play a non edutainment game until a year after they withdrew from console making
+spindash64 Ugh the dreamcast the deathcast
The real question is:
Does the Switch Have Twitch.
Also, having a cover... FINALLY. I'd been saying they needed a cover for cartridge slots... Or AT LEAST have the slot dented inward. Luckily they did both, so it looks good and will still protect the card from getting hit even if the cover ever breaks off.
Is It just me or does the individual JoyCon look uncorftably small
Thanks for doing this, it's such a different console to anything we've seen before that it is good to pour over the details
Definitely worth putting off buying a Wii U.
ASpookyComposer no one's going to buy those anymore still $300
5:53 My thoughts exactly Derrick
what are my thoughts about the Nintendo switch I'm getting it the day comes out
Storm Bonnie 7 Said everyone that watched the trailer
too true
What I think about the Switch: SHUT UP AND TAKE MY POOR WALLET!!!
Komix Blasty Nintendo steals our money once again. (Would be better if Iwata was there to steal it though)
Don't know if y'all noticed this: Going back to what you said about the Joy-cons, the small + and - buttons could be used detach them from the grip and reattach it to the console. I notice this at the beginning of the trailer, when the man was about to walk the dog, he pushed down the aforementioned buttons to detach the controller before slipping them on the console.
with a ds you could lose the stylus. but with the NS you can lose EVERYTHING
i don't see myself taking this outside. but, unlike my wii u gamepad, it will work on the toilet!
+Rafael Q. lol I would not bring the switch to the toilet I'd be too scared though it most likely won't fit in the toilet I'll still be scared lol
I think the main reason why people lose those is because they're small. But I can see people losing the Joy-cons nevertheless.
Great video! It highlighted things I hadn't noticed before. Good job!
I wonder if the console will have good 3rd party games
Good games I mean
Kev Alman
The companies I remember that Nintendo says are supporting the release:
Sega (sonic 2017!!)
Capcom
Square Enix (kingdom half hearts life 3 confirmed!!!)
Ubisoft
Criware
Bethesda (that was SKYRIM in that trailer)
AND SO MANY MOOORE
Chet, you betcha.
That slot behind the unit is for attaching it to that stand in the car, not the TV-dock.
I still don't get why they called it 'Switch' like why? NX would have been a better name
This is the company that named a console "Wii"
GoldenArrow I think it's means the ability to SWITCH between different play styles, or SWITCH from home to portable and vice versa
you switch from tv to on the go
Should have called it the Nintendo Swiitch
GoldenArrow
wtf? that's what it's called...?
Good job GameXplain. Your analysis is apreciated
I was expecting AT LEAST a 4 hour analysis. I am disappointed
Mii Theme. Nice touch.
parte
Thank you guys so much for doing these great analysis videos!
Look at 3:15! Is the impression along the bottom for the stylus that we "seem" to be missing, hmm?
at 2:25 we can see a small circle button at the back of the Joy-Con that may be the button used to detach it from the screen
2:35 you can see a small button to the side of the trigger buttons which is most likely the release.
At 6:05, did he already mention what seems to be a Wii U Pro Controller or a Wii Classic Controller for the Switch in another video?
Is that the Mii plaza music in the background?
The left Joy con button is probably there because both controllers need a home/pause button, so apart from the bumper buttons being mirrored, both have the same configuration and are equally useable. Though I love the idea of fights breaking out because one controller is 'better' than the other :)
You mention a button to remove the joysticks from the main unit and you also mentioned that this button cannot be seen. Actually it can be seen that at 2:27!
It looks like the button to release the separate Joycons is on the underside of them, you can see it at 2:28, just to the right of the trigger buttons.
I think that square is where you put your Amiibo.
1:23 It looks like there are four lights on each side of the grip. Maybe they indicate the battery level for each joy-con controller.
Thank you, GameXplain.
In regards to the close up of the bottom of the gamepad screen: I would imagine that the small mouse-hole-shaped piece is most likely a microphone, probably for chat or voice controls as the DS and 3DS have done in the past.
4:17 Maybe It's The Power Button
thank you very much for the analysis! this console is gonna be the best!
Almost two years later, still waiting for that car holder.
2:23 you can see the button which detaches the joycon from the system
