I'm Hampshire born and bred and now living in Scotland, it amazes me that already here we had snow in October, and then in November we had deep snow also 10 below for a solid week non stop, you however are talking about the coming winter in October, What a difference ! Try wild camping up here mate, we will gladly rescue you and offer accommodation within five minutes notice !
We've done Nairn and other places too. Worked for Lady cordor also. Scotland is great, and we've already mentioned that with our current gear and acclimation... it makes sense as a nomad to spend winter in fairer locations. If you are up in the north devon area ever, I would have some garden work and potentially house repairs depending on your skill levels. Hot showers and use of washing machine and such if you like. I don't mean for payment just if you want a hot shower, even if your just passing through. No worries. Take care out there.✌
Those arctic weather sock from the military are the bollocks. I was in for 13 years and the last place I went to was Estonia. It was -32 but the toes were nice and warm. I also kept my wonter boots, Karrimor SF they are called. Very bulky but more than do the job.

@Nofixedabode859 good question Cully, I am ex forces 2003 and after I left, I went about my way to get off the grid ASAP, kids and life happened... slowed me down, however... life changes. I picked up my old issue 110ltr pack and started to make a journey of my own... I met Tara on the road and she had (and still has) the blackhawk (look at our long stay video). She convinced my military mind that I should get the same, I refused for too long, I need everything I have in my 110lts... safe to say, women (especially nomadic ones) have a way of making everything work, no matter how simple or lack of something may be.i bought a genuine one from ebay for £320, and WOW, never looked back. Hi guys just discovered your channel, I work outdoors all year 🇬🇧 and keep warm by moving all the time + ski trousers are a must on those few but mega cold days, how do you keep warm enough at night when it goes down to -10?❤
A thing i did from doing the pennien way / ben nevis in winter is use a jet boil to heat water into a steel 1L or better a aluminium one and that in a tent acts as a heater. just do yourself a favour and never boil water in the tent or in the vestibule as the moisture will hit the fly and instantly freeze. I use the Berghaus Grampian 3 and two 1L bottles gives a comfortable air temp.
@AltairNoken been at it 10yrs+ Cully, we live this way and very adapt. But thank you for sound advice, I'm sure others will really appreciate it. You both want to get your boots treated with Mars Oil, dubbin or similar for the wet conditions. Looks like theyve not had much care for a long time. Looking after feet is a priority.
My ex works a corporate job and drives an exec car (partly why he’s my ex 😂), but he’s always loved buying from charity shops. Folk could be snooty in the past but it’s becoming more popular to recycle clothes now as folk get more aware about the environmental impact of fast fashion. I love that you just buy what you need. My mums a shopaholic and I recently gave away an entire wardrobe of unwanted brand new clothes that she bought me. We don’t speak now (my birthday present to myself last year as she’s a nasty narcissist) and now I’ve no more unnecessary stuff being delivered to me and my son. It was very freeing to offload it all!

@fireandforge Hey Cully, and thanks for your comment. Have a look at the 'forest launderette' video, and what's in our pack bag reveal video also. Typically we have 2 changes, and have known people who live in houses be far dirtier than us living in the woods lol. If we can't rely on friends for showers or such, we'll use streams and other with environmental friendly soup, wet moss, baby wipes and so on etc. HAPPY HOPPING 👌🏼👍🏼
@@loghoppers very true. The trappings of civilization do not equate to hygiene. Having lived out of a rucksack for many years myself I know that good hygiene is a must and also a matter of strict self discipline. It's too easy to get lazy when it's not comfortable. And many do not know that dirty clothes do not last long. The trapped dirt acts as an abrasive that destroys the fibers and that's why clothes literally fall apart. Keep being you. When it all crumbles you guys will be the ones on top

We don't lol. It's temperate in the UK 🇬🇧, so really is no need to change much at all. We won't change our sleep set up because it's versatile enough to get through all seasons comfortably. You should make yourself a Pot Cosy (if you don’t already have one) to help keep your food warmer, all you need is form of insulation material ie Bubble Wrap & Tin Foil and duct tape. There are lots of videos online to show how to make one, they are lightweight and you store your pot in it when not in use so doesn’t take up much more room……you can hold the pot when eating and you don’t burn yourself.

Great vid guys as usual. I tell you it does annoy me off hearing people jumping on the political bandwagon moaning about the use or wearing of a shemagh. We used to use them in the army and they were very versatile pieces of kit. Not only do they keep you warm, they keep the sun off your head, you can use them to pick up the handle of a hot metal pot, tie the corners together for a makeshift bag, strain water (prior to boiling) through them, use them as char cloth for starting fires, make an emergency sling out of them etc, a plethora of uses. 😅

Thats cold. Is it that cold in the uk huh. Well winter isnt over january and February are worst in Sweden. We had -17c last year daytime even in the southwest parts here brrrrrr not an eager beaver for January February

Only 6-7 degrees lower then you in c. But i am in the southwest of sweden. 2/3 upnorth already have had -30cm Brrrr. What predators you got there? Badgers ? Lol. Slept in the deep woods last night here full of god damm wild boars around they didnt even bother to leave when i made serious noise. Need some firecrackers and some sedatives for the next "naked" tent trip haha
Arctic socks are the business ....first used them in the Navy up in Northern 🇳🇴 still use them now ....quality has gone down but recently managed to get some new old pairs ...you can smell the lanolin
I've just been assembling my winter kit for inclement weather stone bothering. Interestingly I bought several of the things on your list :) I found whole army goretex waterproof suit on Vinted for 20 quid, though, which is my prize purchase! Was wondering, though, what sleeping gear do you use when camping in winter? I opted for the British army sleep system (lightweight sleeping bag+medium weight+liner) but clearly you are also aiming for low budget as well so any recommendations? You're correct about temp regulation - I feel the cold much less than my (female) camping partner, so we're looking for cheap sleeping bag for her! Happy camping, guys! x
@DreadedGareth if you watch our 'long stay video' that'll show you our gear for all year round. However, our gear may not be suitable for those in bricks and morta, as their blood will not be so acclimated to 24/7 outdoors... that comes with time and perseverance. I used to work for Bournemouth council, and I have encountered many people living your lifestyle. We were always told to let our bosses know if we did come across a camp, but I never saw what the problem was? But a lot of people do complain about everything?

I've got a couple pairs of those heat holders socks, cannot rate them highly enough! Although they are quite fond of taking half the forest floor tangled in them 😅 How are the surplus arctic socks in comparison?
@_NickB_ they don't collect as much litter, but on a fairer note... I don't tent to walk about in my socks without boots, but also those artic socks in particular, I only wear for bed. Mod however wears his day in and out 🤮, but he swears by them and they're only £10 a pair, but because New Milton army surplus is absolutely awesome, he did us an all in deal which in turn reduced our socks to half the going price. @Mark-dj4zr Dog is very well trained and was an intensive 13weeks training period that we conducted to make him tent stealth and a 2 person pooch. If you are going invest in a pooch, make sure its of an intelligent breed. However... you've sparked inspiration for us to put a video together regarding this very topic. Remove before 24hrs will be your only.safe way of not getting Lymes, anything after 24hrs and your clock will tick (pun intended) always protect ankles too, gaiters are good for that also. But it all depends what area you're in, but if you're in an area with deer/game etc... expect alot of ticks, however we've noticed that once the temp stays below 8⁰c for 5 days in a row, they go to bed for.winter and jump up again around April and it's like the walking dead lol... they all want a piece. @@loghoppersthere are web sites with hot spots for Lyme so you can know the risk. Still, they give me the creeps. My dog had them all over her face from sniffing in Thetford forest. The tiniest instars, the babies, are scarcely bigger than a full stop!
How the chuffing hell do you keep dry? Whenever i have camped a storm pops up there's water in the tent, in my clothes, half the time i can't sleep....but, gonna go back for more cause, well. I like to cycle and camp, bought myself a new blow up mattress thing so hopefully next time ill have more success and get the zzzz in which i can't do without, cycling all day long. Stay dry!

I dont think these guys in the video are political. A shemag is used by multiple western military guys because like they said its a scarf, it can keep your neck warm, can keep you shaded, can be a towel also if ya cut yaself you can quite quickly use it as a makeshift tornequet which will save your life potentially.

If you are up in the north devon area ever, I would have some garden work and potentially house repairs depending on your skill levels. Hot showers and use of washing machine and such if you like. Those arctic weather sock from the military are the bollocks. I was in for 13 years and the last place I went to was Estonia. It was -32 but the toes were nice and warm. I also kept my wonter boots, Karrimor SF they are called. Very bulky but more than do the job.

@Nofixedabode859 good question Cully, I am ex forces 2003 and after I left, I went about my way to get off the grid ASAP, kids and life happened... slowed me down, however... life changes. I picked up my old issue 110ltr pack and started to make a journey of my own... I met Tara on the road and she had (and still has) the blackhawk (look at our long stay video). She convinced my military mind that I should get the same, I refused for too long, I need everything I have in my 110lts... safe to say, women (especially nomadic ones) have a way of making everything work, no matter how simple or lack of something may be.i bought a genuine one from ebay for £320, and WOW, never looked back. A thing i did from doing the pennien way / ben nevis in winter is use a jet boil to heat water into a steel 1L or better a aluminium one and that in a tent acts as a heater. just do yourself a favour and never boil water in the tent or in the vestibule as the moisture will hit the fly and instantly freeze. I use the Berghaus Grampian 3 and two 1L bottles gives a comfortable air temp.
@AltairNoken been at it 10yrs+ Cully, we live this way and very adapt. But thank you for sound advice, I'm sure others will really appreciate it. My ex works a corporate job and drives an exec car (partly why he’s my ex 😂), but he’s always loved buying from charity shops. Folk could be snooty in the past but it’s becoming more popular to recycle clothes now as folk get more aware about the environmental impact of fast fashion. I love that you just buy what you need. My mums a shopaholic and I recently gave away an entire wardrobe of unwanted brand new clothes that she bought me. We don’t speak now (my birthday present to myself last year as she’s a nasty narcissist) and now I’ve no more unnecessary stuff being delivered to me and my son. It was very freeing to offload it all!

@fireandforge Hey Cully, and thanks for your comment. Have a look at the 'forest launderette' video, and what's in our pack bag reveal video also. Typically we have 2 changes, and have known people who live in houses be far dirtier than us living in the woods lol. If we can't rely on friends for showers or such, we'll use streams and other with environmental friendly soup, wet moss, baby wipes and so on etc. HAPPY HOPPING 👌🏼👍🏼
@@loghoppers very true. The trappings of civilization do not equate to hygiene. Having lived out of a rucksack for many years myself I know that good hygiene is a must and also a matter of strict self discipline. It's too easy to get lazy when it's not comfortable. And many do not know that dirty clothes do not last long. The trapped dirt acts as an abrasive that destroys the fibers and that's why clothes literally fall apart. Keep being you. When it all crumbles you guys will be the ones on top

We don't lol. It's temperate in the UK 🇬🇧, so really is no need to change much at all. We won't change our sleep set up because it's versatile enough to get through all seasons comfortably. Same goes for the tent unless damaged.. but only to buy the same one again.

You should make yourself a Pot Cosy (if you don’t already have one) to help keep your food warmer, all you need is form of insulation material ie Bubble Wrap & Tin Foil and duct tape.
There are lots of videos online to show how to make one, they are lightweight and you store your pot in it when not in use so doesn’t take up much more room……you can hold the pot when eating and you don’t burn yourself.

Great vid guys as usual. I tell you it does annoy me off hearing people jumping on the political bandwagon moaning about the use or wearing of a shemagh. We used to use them in the army and they were very versatile pieces of kit. Not only do they keep you warm, they keep the sun off your head, you can use them to pick up the handle of a hot metal pot, tie the corners together for a makeshift bag, strain water (prior to boiling) through them, use them as char cloth for starting fires, make an emergency sling out of them etc, a plethora of uses. 😅

I've just been assembling my winter kit for inclement weather stone bothering. Interestingly I bought several of the things on your list :) I found whole army goretex waterproof suit on Vinted for 20 quid, though, which is my prize purchase! Was wondering, though, what sleeping gear do you use when camping in winter? I opted for the British army sleep system (lightweight sleeping bag+medium weight+liner) but clearly you are also aiming for low budget as well so any recommendations? You're correct about temp regulation - I feel the cold much less than my (female) camping partner, so we're looking for cheap sleeping bag for her! Happy camping, guys! x

However, our gear may not be suitable for those in bricks and morta, as their blood will not be so acclimated to 24/7 outdoors... that comes with time and perseverance. I used to work for Bournemouth council, and I have encountered many people living your lifestyle. We were always told to let our bosses know if we did come across a camp, but I never saw what the problem was? But a lot of people do complain about everything?

I've got a couple pairs of those heat holders socks, cannot rate them highly enough! Although they are quite fond of taking half the forest floor tangled in them 😅 How are the surplus arctic socks in comparison?
@_NickB_ they don't collect as much litter, but on a fairer note... I don't tent to walk about in my socks without boots, but also those artic socks in particular, I only wear for bed. Mod however wears his day in and out 🤮, but he swears by them and they're only £10 a pair, but because New Milton army surplus is absolutely awesome, he did us an all in deal which in turn reduced our socks to half the going price. @Mark-dj4zr Dog is very well trained and was an intensive 13weeks training period that we conducted to make him tent stealth and a 2 person pooch. If you are going invest in a pooch, make sure its of an intelligent breed. However... you've sparked inspiration for us to put a video together regarding this very topic. Hi guys... Your both such an inspiration.. Can I ask how you deal with tick bites and the risk of contracting lymes disease as its something that's been putting me off wild camping recently. Do find this is a problem? Thanks
Remove before 24hrs will be your only.safe way of not getting Lymes, anything after 24hrs and your clock will tick (pun intended) always protect ankles too, gaiters are good for that also. But it all depends what area you're in, but if you're in an area with deer/game etc... expect alot of ticks, however we've noticed that once the temp stays below 8⁰c for 5 days in a row, they go to bed for.winter and jump up again around April and it's like the walking dead lol... they all want a piece. @@loghoppersthere are web sites with hot spots for Lyme so you can know the risk. Still, they give me the creeps. My dog had them all over her face from sniffing in Thetford forest. The tiniest instars, the babies, are scarcely bigger than a full stop!

How the chuffing hell do you keep dry? Whenever i have camped a storm pops up there's water in the tent, in my clothes, half the time i can't sleep....but, gonna go back for more cause, well. I like to cycle and camp, bought myself a new blow up mattress thing so hopefully next time ill have more success and get the zzzz in which i can't do without, cycling all day long. Stay dry!
