The worst cold I find is like today, when it's wet and very humid with plus temperatures between 1º and 7ºc. The water vapour suspended in the air can cut through all your layers, including Gortex, and of course is heat conductive. Oil skins are very good, but heavy.

I would have loved to live the life that you have. I never know when i might end up homeless again, thank you to the government! The haters are your entertainment absolute numpties! They are such snowflakes, never let them get to you. I've lived in some very cold damp places, and when i finally got somewhere decent to live, i struggled with the warmth for a bit, so I am not surprised you have both found it hard. i wonder if some people look at your lifestyle of not being tied down to credit card debt and big mortgages for decades and are actually envious of you and a bit jealous and maybe thats why they hate but then hate is always a choice and it shows them up for who they are more than it ever says about you and being autistic i can understand why you find urban jungles draining i find it a bit of a sensory overload with the sights sounds and smells and everyone rushing around which is why i much prefer being on my own in the middle of nowhere also i get my water from CRT water points as part of my license and i have to say it is pretty clean no white stuff but i still always boil it before use , when i was living in the channel islands our water used to come out brown when you turned the tap on then go clear after s few seconds so i only ever drunk bottled water there

Just found this channel a week ago and I cant stop watching, a few video suggestions I'd love to see are daily life type videos too seeing you guys walk to a new location and setup camp, cooking in camp and how you manage things like washing/showering and food. I live next to a airport and train lines in some flats our window's are triple glazed for the noise pollution but when windows are open it can be loud lol, hope you 2 had a good Christmas 😊 I really enjoy your video's very much.

Top tips ... I have often found less is more when it comes to sleeping bags ... I hardly ever wear socks for example and usually the most I wear is merino baselayers to sleep ... I go year round in a 3 season synthetic bag adding a wool blanket in winter and have gone as low as -5 like that (not full time but for fun) ... good insulation from the ground is vital though ... I also favour candles ... I have UCO lanterns that I make my own candles for as they're stupid prices ... but they raise the temp inside the tent by a few degrees but also help to dry the air a little ... obviously gotta be careful and would possibly be a bit unsafe with the dog in the tent but can be a real benefit in harsh conditions ... great to see you doing these videos though expecially given the ever rising numbers of homeless these days ... cheers and have a great new year 😉

In Siberia where some people live in small settlements in winter they have a sauna...I forget the Russian word for sauna just at the minute, after the sauna they run outside in just their underpants and roll in the snow. Also during winter there it can get down to minus 40 or more so they have tins of meat fat, a dollop or two of this goes into the pot. Their bacon isn't sliced like we get but bigger chunks, with fat. In cold climates meat fats are the best fuel to keep your core temperature up. And you need meat proteins. Being vegan in those conditions you will either become very poorly and need a hospital or you will die. This is why they hunt for meat and fish before winter sets in. Back in my day, late 60s, 70s and 80s we had very cold winters. Lots of snow and some very cold north winds. My Dad used to go out in the mornings and knock the huge icicles off the guttering. Open the front door there'd often be 2 or 3 ft of snow piled up against it. Back then there was no central heating or double glazing, get out of bed in the morning it was bloody freezing, we used to put our clothes in the bed to keep them warm. Hot water bottles were everywhere. Wool blankets, wool socks and an eiderdown..IF this was actually filled with eider down even better. No tog with a number quilts in those days. And the coal fire was lit before we got up. Winter breakfast was either porridge or a cooked breakfast, in spring and summer it would be toast and jam or cornflakes, rice crispies etc. Not if but when the heating went out at school we'd put on our coats and wooly hats, we would NOT be sent home just coz the heating failed. These days younger generations don't know what winter is. Ponds froze over for weeks, thawed and then froze again often times. Back in the day the Thames froze and they'd have a market on it. We'd go out in our duffel coats and woolly hats n gloves and chuck snowballs at each other and build snowmen, our fingers got very cold so in we'd go straight to the fire and get ... hot ache. Christ that hurt but we always did it...Kids eh.. Back then you would need a fire to keep warm. Best type for that is a Siberian log fire, this radiates heat forward not all around. These days we don't really have a winter. On the subject of shellfish, when I was a kid the break waters .. Groynes to be correct, where covered in mussels. We used them as bait for hand lines to catch crabs an for beach fishing. You could go out at low tide and dig lug worms. Cockles and whelks were always for sale on the promenades of seaside towns, caught by the inshore fishermen. You could go down to the beach when they came in and get fresh crab and lobster. The sea was much cleaner then. For decades now there's no mussels on the breakwaters, no razorfish or sand eels, no dead small crabs and starfish or jelly fish washed up along the tide line. And hardly any inshore cod or haddock either compared to what there used to be. This planet's apex predator as you say, population now around 9 billions plus. Another 75 years it will be around 10 billions or more, maybe 11...another 100 years....13 billions or more...All needing housing, water and food as well as everything else. The only way we can feed this many people now is commercial farming, huge fields growing massive amounts of everything you can think of. ALL year round. How many carrots per year? Think about the huge amounts of tomatoes...as the population infestation builds food is going to become a huge issue. We cannot just keep flattening acres and acres of land to create more and more of these huge fields. So you guys, out there living the lives of nomads, foraging for food in natures natural supermarket. Even when you buy of barter for shop bought foods you are consuming less commercially produced food than the vast majority of us, especially in the ickle west. MOST of our food in the west comes from countries such as China, Russia, and other countries outside the west. So does most of the fertilisers...Russia produce huge amounts of that and a lot of food...China produces huge amounts of foodstuffs. Also I would bet a pound..whilst it's worth anything ..to a penny you guys hardly if ever throw much food away. Christmas, how much food is thrown away uneaten because people go bloody stupid every Christmas buying so much food they don't really need. Throwing away food is one of the worse things we can do. Plus it costs a lot over the years..money wasted, thrown away. So how are they gonna feed 11..12..13..14 billion people in the future? Well, they have an idea for that. Synthetic food. Some are being trained for it with fake meats made out of carrots n cabbages or whatever..along with all the other fake "vegan" stuff they make these days. But all this stuff to manufacture fake meats etc has to be grown, huge amounts of it and more and more every year. You guys have it right, people who criticise or mock your way of life are in for a shock one day..or their kids and their kids will be.
