    Thanks guys for sharing about conkers for washing . You know ,when the sun and wind together ,dry your clothes ,they smell wonderful ,I love how the sun disinfects and kills germs too .I have found that simply washing and swimming in flowing water ,really refreshes and cleans one s body . . . . .all without soap . I feel sure that there are some marsh plants that make a cleaning froth ,only I don t remember the names .

    English ivy is also good. It can be used to wash your pots with as well. You need around 100 leaves, boil, strain, and bottle.

    • @loghoppers
      @loghoppers  2 месяца назад +6

      @wideawake4413 brilliant one for pots and grease is wet moss. Sadly, we're not going to carry bottles around with us as it adds weight. But we'll worth a try on the move etc, lighter than conkers and all year round... will give it a try. Cheers Cully, HAPPY HOPPING 👌🏼👍🏼

    Going off on a tangent here but Tara was saying about having a painful abcess and using garlic which I agree is a great antibiotic ( as is natural proper REAL honey, not the supermarket crap which is practically all sugar) Cloves crushed with olive oil is a natural painkiller and is great for toothache.

    Blessings from South Australia!
    Great idea with conkers!
    You can use soapwort for soaping up too. It is a spring flower with small dark pink flowers.
    Not sure but think it is a wildflower over there.
    They used to use it to wash delicate ancient tapestries. Need to boil it a bit then add clothes. Good for undies perhaps if you have no conkers in spring!!😊
    Great blog guys!!!

    English ivy, clematis and bracken, but the bracken takes a bit of prep. We've tried shredded up ivy leaves in a net bag in the washing machine. It works. You can also use ivy as a body wash and shampoo. For that though I'd boil it or leave it to soak in hot water for a good bit. Have also used conkers for clothes washing. Whites can be a bit hit and miss though for us. Happy Christmas. Thanks for the videos. Really enjoying them.👍

    Though living in a flat I'm intrigued with minimalistic stuff.
    Recently I tried washing by hand.
    Got a flexible bucket, warm water, washing powder. Soaked the stuff, stirring a few minutes, then let chemistry work a few hours.
    Stir again, flushed it....wrenching the smal cloths is easy but for the big ones two hands ain't enough.
    Thanx for the idea to sling it somewhere and having two free hands for wrench it.

    This is brilliant. Thanks. In the U.S., conkers are called horse chestnuts or buckeyes. There's 2 kinds of buckeyes--1 kind squirrels will eat, and 1 kind they won't. Humans can eat the 1 the squirrels will eat, after a bit of preparation.

    • @loghoppers
      @loghoppers  2 месяца назад +1

      @CricketsBay hey Cully, and thank you for your comment and support. We call them horse chestnut too, and we suspect your small buckeye is what we would call sweet chestnut. We roast them in a fire.. and awesome eating. HAPPY HOPPING 👌🏼 👍🏼

  • @cujomojo

    I could never get my conkers to lather up for some reason, lol.
    On a serious note, you know only to use conkers in running streams I’m sure. Avoid closed water or major water courses, saponins in the conkers are pretty toxic to fish. If I was concerned that that were fish in the water I would dig a well a couple of feet up the bank and wash everything in that once it had filled with water. I’d probably dig two, one to wash and one to rinse.

    • @loghoppers
      @loghoppers  14 дней назад +2

      Yeah definitely, that's good advice. That little brook has nothing in it but antibiotics no doubt from the field run off. Clean and antibiotic lol 😆 HAPPY HOPPING 👌🏼 👍🏼

    • @cujomojo
      @cujomojo 14 дней назад +2

      @ It’s scary when you think about what gets into our water. A previous job of mine was as an environmental auditor, I used to go into different companies and get them ready to apply for ISO14001 certification. I asked one in particular “what do you do about your effluent discharge into the canal”? “We just pay the fines” was their reply. They actually had it budgeted in to pay the fines up front.

    • @loghoppers
      @loghoppers  14 дней назад +2

      @cujomojo WOW!!! that's the problem huh, the fines are far too low that they're not taken seriously. We've seen septic tanks bleeding into brooks in rural areas, dead birds line the sides of the roadside where they're situated also. Such a sad state society have put ourselves in. I got a few the other day after a bit of exploring and hanging out in the hammock and just used a tick card, but if I was there fulltime I'm sure I'd get more and also not be likely to spot them as easily.
