You always look toasty warm to me. 😊 As someone who suffers the cold and due to arthritis I can say I'm glad to know the few things I do to help you also do. And thanks for the information on keeping warm using natural ways. Yes, the wool itch is real and uncomfortable. That said, I have often wondered if that's because the synthetic clothing took over, and we as humans became soft 😂😂😂. I love camping, and it's been a part of my life since I was 6 months old. I am in Canada now (-3C here in Alberta, middle of the night, but it will get down to -30 in a few weeks), But I do recognise where you are! my old stamping grounds when I was in the UK. You cannot beat wool to keep you warm - silk works as well, but is pricy, wool is key for cheap and warm. And a hot meal or hot drink is so valuable when you are out in the cold. I am curious what you guys do when you get sick... Colds, flu, the like. Can you hunker down somewhere or do you just have to tough it out and keep moving?
Good tips both! Totally agree about having a smaller shelter in winter months. I’ve really noticed the difference when I’ve done a family camp in low temps and you have an absolute barn to freeze in! Another tip is to put hot water in a tough water bottle and put it in the bottom of the sleeping bag. When I did the Coast to Coast this year (mostly in rain). I guarded my dry tent clothes with my life and they were absolutely heaven to pull on after hiking for hours in the wet. Dry and warm - LOVELY!! Another great and interesting video. Looking forward to seeing you back in the woods cully! Ben

These tips are helpful for people living under a roof too. We've all got so used to central heating, we've forgotten that only 50-60 years ago it wasn't so widespread. Best to heat the person not the space. You see people out and about with hardly any clothing on and complaining about the cold, but if you leave a nice warm house you should wrap that warmth in by putting on more layers first. Or, like my nan used to say, you won't feel the benefit.
Exactly this. We speak to so many people born in the 50s and longjons were a given... It's not a fashion statement. We've seen so much useless fashion around, we think to ourselves that they look like they're ready for the artic, but look blimmin cold lol. Crazy that society has forgotten the basics to staying warm. HAPPY HOPPING 👌🏼 👍🏼
In Siberia where some people live in small settlements in winter they have a sauna...I forget the Russian word for sauna just at the minute, after the sauna they run outside in just their underpants and roll in the snow. Also during winter there it can get down to minus 40 or more so they have tins of meat fat, a dollop or two of this goes into the pot. Their bacon isn't sliced like we get but bigger chunks, with fat. In cold climates meat fats are the best fuel to keep your core temperature up. And you need meat proteins. Being vegan in those conditions you will either become very poorly and need a hospital or you will die. This is why they hunt for meat and fish before winter sets in. Back in my day, late 60s, 70s and 80s we had very cold winters. Lots of snow and some very cold north winds. My Dad used to go out in the mornings and knock the huge icicles off the guttering. Open the front door there'd often be 2 or 3 ft of snow piled up against it. Back then there was no central heating or double glazing, get out of bed in the morning it was bloody freezing, we used to put our clothes in the bed to keep them warm. Hot water bottles were everywhere. Wool blankets, wool socks and an eiderdown..IF this was actually filled with eider down even better. No tog with a number quilts in those days. And the coal fire was lit before we got up. Winter breakfast was either porridge or a cooked breakfast, in spring and summer it would be toast and jam or cornflakes, rice crispies etc. Not if but when the heating went out at school we'd put on our coats and wooly hats, we would NOT be sent home just coz the heating failed. These days younger generations don't know what winter is. Ponds froze over for weeks, thawed and then froze again often times. Back in the day the Thames froze and they'd have a market on it. We'd go out in our duffel coats and woolly hats n gloves and chuck snowballs at each other and build snowmen, our fingers got very cold so in we'd go straight to the fire and get ... hot ache. Christ that hurt but we always did it...Kids eh.. Back then you would need a fire to keep warm. Best type for that is a Siberian log fire, this radiates heat forward not all around. These days we don't really have a winter. On the subject of shellfish, when I was a kid the break waters .. Groynes to be correct, where covered in mussels. We used them as bait for hand lines to catch crabs an for beach fishing. You could go out at low tide and dig lug worms. Cockles and whelks were always for sale on the promenades of seaside towns, caught by the inshore fishermen. You could go down to the beach when they came in and get fresh crab and lobster. The sea was much cleaner then. For decades now there's no mussels on the breakwaters, no razorfish or sand eels, no dead small crabs and starfish or jelly fish washed up along the tide line. And hardly any inshore cod or haddock either compared to what there used to be. This planet's apex predator as you say, population now around 9 billions plus. Another 75 years it will be around 10 billions or more, maybe 11...another 100 years....13 billions or more...All needing housing, water and food as well as everything else. The only way we can feed this many people now is commercial farming, huge fields growing massive amounts of everything you can think of. ALL year round. How many carrots per year? Think about the huge amounts of tomatoes...as the population infestation builds food is going to become a huge issue. We cannot just keep flattening acres and acres of land to create more and more of these huge fields. So you guys, out there living the lives of nomads, foraging for food in natures natural supermarket. Even when you buy of barter for shop bought foods you are consuming less commercially produced food than the vast majority of us, especially in the ickle west. MOST of our food in the west comes from countries such as China, Russia, and other countries outside the west. So does most of the fertilisers...Russia produce huge amounts of that and a lot of food...China produces huge amounts of foodstuffs. Also I would bet a pound..whilst it's worth anything ..to a penny you guys hardly if ever throw much food away. Christmas, how much food is thrown away uneaten because people go bloody stupid every Christmas buying so much food they don't really need. Throwing away food is one of the worse things we can do. Plus it costs a lot over the years..money wasted, thrown away. So how are they gonna feed 11..12..13..14 billion people in the future? Well, they have an idea for that. Synthetic food. Some are being trained for it with fake meats made out of carrots n cabbages or whatever..along with all the other fake "vegan" stuff they make these days. But all this stuff to manufacture fake meats etc has to be grown, huge amounts of it and more and more every year. You guys have it right, people who criticise or mock your way of life are in for a shock one day..or their kids and their kids will be.
That was excellent guys nice walk along the beach I used to go to Swansea a lot and Dorset fishing and beach combing miss that! Love your content and chat always looking forward to the next! English bloke living in Arizona USA
100% we can acclimatize, I lived abroad in a much warmer climate for years and my body became used to the heat and once I came back to England I was in shock due to the cold however after being back in England for years now my body is well acclimatized to the seasons here. I really think modern luxuries have made us softer and less resilient. Cheers
Thanks! 😊 The worst cold I find is like today when it's wet and very humid with plus temperatures between 1º and 7ºc, and it's not even windy. The water vapour suspended in the air can cut through all your layers, including Gortex, and of course is heat conductive. And then there's the windchill. Oil skins are very good, but heavy. All the bst to you, & HNY!
How I keep warm living in a tent right now in the mountains ... Stainless Steel water bottle from Wilko (I miss Wilko so much), it's a shite flask as it has no insulation and radiates heat so it is an excellent mini radiator when filled with boiling water, I have it stuffed into my jacket right now... I use it in bed , which Is a 10cm thick inflatable, that helps a lot with cold from below.... I put my feet on the bottle when they get numb, i even dried my shoes out by putting the radiator bottle in there.....
Check out the Buffalo special 6 mountain shirt, they are a bit expensive but one of the warmest lightweight tops you can wear, the mountain rescue services wear them and Ben Fogle wears one when he goes somewhere cold on his tv show.
I'm really happy that the algorithm showed me your videos. I'm having my first winter in my truck, you have a lot of experience that definitely transfers over. Thanks for sharing your wisdom with us!
I have one rule never climb into a sleeping bag cold. Like you I have a large dog who brings the temp of the tent up. The best thing is my hot water bottle kept close to your body it retains body heat all night
Top tips ... I have often found less is more when it comes to sleeping bags ... I hardly ever wear socks for example and usually the most I wear is merino baselayers to sleep ... I go year round in a 3 season synthetic bag adding a wool blanket in winter and have gone as low as -5 like that (not full time but for fun) ... good insulation from the ground is vital though ... I also favour candles ... I have UCO lanterns that I make my own candles for as they're stupid prices ... but they raise the temp inside the tent by a few degrees but also help to dry the air a little ... obviously gotta be careful and would possibly be a bit unsafe with the dog in the tent but can be a real benefit in harsh conditions ... great to see you doing these videos though expecially given the ever rising numbers of homeless these days ... cheers and have a great new year 😉

Hats of to you guys! I would be freezing! How you live so minimally is impressive, don’t think I could do it though…. I would at least want a cabin or a van but fair play to you.
Hi guys! It was absolutely amazing bumping into you's on boxing day. I was buzzing! 😁 couldn't miss the chance of saying hi. May your travels continue with blessings 🙌
Morning morning, I wear alot off Marino wool, its good for keeping my body heat regulated and a you cant beat a woolen jersey aye. The itch of some materials I do wish they'd find a way to unitch it lol. Though we have different climates these tips are like many things in the outdoors, alot of common sense aye. Ive not done a winter in a tent yet but even living in my old van for 4 years during those cooler winter nights I had to adapt. I agree with the feeling tired part been in people's houses with the heat on. Have an amazing weekend much love..
I love my ski trousers, I never use heating at home and it keeps people away, no one visits lol. I have my dog, big hot water bottle. I cant stand other peoples houses, its so dry and hot, i feel i cant breath. I love how you live. Fresh air is good. DO YOU FIND IT HARD TO FIND PLACES TO PITCH YOUR TENT?
Thanks great video :) I've semi wild camped for 3 days over Xmas, standard tent. First night I overcompensated, was way too warm! Second night too cold and Goldilocks moment last night haha
The white skys for 3 weeks is strange isn't it?? Never used to be like that round my ends. Worrying. Great video, you both seem lovely folks. Good luck and all the best in 2025... got a good feeling your going to be succesful
Lovely walk on the beach. Too bad there was nothing to forage but that is life sometimes. :) With limited clothing, how do you dry stuff once it is damp, especially in the winter months when the sun doesn't supply a lot of drying heat? I admire your lifestyle, ultimate freedom. :) Thanks for sharing. :)
Absolutely love this freedom you enjoy well done & wishing you all the best if you ever Dorset way give us a shout welcome to pitch up in our Garden plenty of room. Best life.🤟
More power to you. Its not something i could do , this country is just to damp for me . I worked in construction for over 40 years and i could never do an office job . It amazes me when i see people wearing those woolly hats when driving. Another thing about feeling tired when being in a house , i would imagine for you it is like walking down the detergent isle in a supermarket. The smell in these isles almost knocks me out sometimes.Being outside all the time maybe you have a low tolerance to these chemicals , so maybe thats what tires you . Good luck to yourselves and everyone for the New Year.
What ‘would ‘ you like to have in your kit, but choose not to as it’s not practical to carry, heavy, bulky etc. a book? A wind up radio? I love that you live your life in a way that obviously makes your soul happy. Keep up the good work xxxx
You can soon warm a tent up even in full winter conditions. I've done a lot of camping up in Scotland during the winter. Half a dozen night lites burned for 10 minutes is a great way to initially boost the temperature in a tent.
@loghoppers no digging. Put the little night lights or candles in a pan for safety. 10 mins or even five makes a difference. All depends how stealthy you need to be. If the weather is bad enough to need to do this there will not be many people out looking for you.
Some wierd RUclips witchcraft introduced me to your channel recently. I'm glad it did, I've been steadily catching up and enjoying your content. Happy New Year to you both.
Another great insight into your lifestyle guys, many thanks for sharing. I've always been a big fan of Merino Wool at this time of year as I'm a total wimp when it comes to cold weather 🤣 One thing you didn't mention, although from watching your previous videos I know you are both big advocates of is a good hat and scarf, you wouldn't catch me outdoors in the cold without mine. Take care and have a great New Year ❤
Just thought a log hoppers hat wasn't a good plug and a little common sense. But yes... hat too amd please lmao ... don't get started with the scarf, they'll find us and button bash again lol 😆 HAPPY HOPPING 👌🏼 👍🏼
What if you need a doctor or a dentist or any help? This looks all very romantic till you get older.Living like this wouldn't be my choice not in the UK anyway.
Absolute love and admire both your lifestyle! I've just sold my house and thinking about van life. If you two are ever up in the Cumbrian area I would love to meet up and exchange stories!
Hope you're geared up for the coming winds tomorrow 🤞 ... interested in your views on wool blankets ? youtube Survivalists seem to love them...I'm not sure ...all the best.. 👍
Definitely wouldn't carry a wool blanket, it's an old trick from the 70s, but again... never needed to. Clothes and such have got much better over the years and blankets are really not necessary. HAPPY HOPPING 👌🏼 👍🏼
I've done a winter in a van with no heating. I was rarely cold cos I wrapped up. But the wet was a problem. Condensation galore. P.s. I know you said you don't bother with fires but a tee pee with no roof will contain a fire. After dark no one sees the smoke. 😊
@lilyparker8836 nooooo DEFINITELY not, and I've Never been to Cornwall. Out of interest, how old.was the son and what year. Cheers, HAPPY HOPPING 👌🏼 👍🏼
Hi Cully, I know I keep asking questions but I’m just fascinated and interested in your way of life, Even quite envious if I’m honest but my question is what is the plans moving forward as in old age, Do you have plans for then or is it basically a we’ll see when the time comes situation? What made you both choose this way of life? Have you ever lived in houses or is this something you’s were born into? Ever thought about starting a send in service so people can send you gifts or things to try out and see how useful it is to nomadic peoples way of life and is there even a way of sending stuff with no delivery address? Merry Christmas to all 3 of you and look forward to more content!
Please indulge in some.of our videos and we're sure many questions will be answered. But also will cover more over many more years to come. HAPPY HOPPING 👌🏼 👍🏼 P.s please look.at our play lists.
I hope this doesn't sound weird but whilst staying with family did you enjoy a gorgeous hot bath? That would be my thing. My husband and I live in a very small council bungalow so the bathroom is titchy. No room for a bath. So whenever we go anywhere on a holiday the priority is that the place must have a bath tub. How do you guy's feel about that? Do you not yearn for a hot bath? And do you say a quick 'Hi' to your friends and family as you whizz past them on the way to their bathroom? 😅
Nice one folks,im down at the beach meself it was a lovely spooky foggy night but its died down a bit now,im over in Folkestone at the mo..happy hopping💙✌️🇬🇧

They are right, you do not need a hottent. You get used to the cold, it is also good for your body and your heart. A human being is built for temperature difference.

Such a cuddly warm video 😍👨❤💋👨.
Keep the blood flowing by moving... in your case, hop on the spot. 😊
Love you guys ❤
Soon many will chose to live like you. Your tips is priceless.
Grateful you popped up on my recommended. You’re a pleasure to watch. Love your positive energy. Happy hopping!
And glad to have you here, cheers HAPPY HOPPING 👌🏼 👍🏼
Love ur videos keep it lit
My son camps, I introduced him to your channel yesterday He's asked me to go up our local mountain in Wales .I am 63 pretty fit so maybe soon ❤❤ 😊
Very true indeed. HAPPY HOPPING 👌🏼 👍🏼
Cheers
Indeed, it's true we feel. HAPPY HOPPING 👌🏼 👍🏼
WOW thank you very VERY much, so kind and yeah... it's a game of cards sometimes. HAPPY HOPPING 👌🏼 👍🏼
What country are you in? We'd suggest getting a more temperate climate. HAPPY HOPPING 👌🏼 👍🏼
@@loghoppers Wales boyo
If our bed gets cold we just put another husky on it
Used to love a beach walk , shame no foraging for you. Cheers for the insight and the knowledge sharing. Happy hopping 🌾🌳🦉🍄
Awesome. HAPPY HOPPING 👌🏼 👍🏼
Love your videos. Keepum coming 😊
Check out the Buffalo special 6 mountain shirt, they are a bit expensive but one of the warmest lightweight tops you can wear, the mountain rescue services wear them and Ben Fogle wears one when he goes somewhere cold on his tv show.
Thanks
WOW thank you so very much too. HAPPY HOPPING 👌🏼 👍🏼
I'm really happy that the algorithm showed me your videos. I'm having my first winter in my truck, you have a lot of experience that definitely transfers over. Thanks for sharing your wisdom with us!
Bless you, glad to inspire. Cheers, HAPPY HOPPING 👌🏼 👍🏼
Great advice, thank you :)
I have one rule never climb into a sleeping bag cold. Like you I have a large dog who brings the temp of the tent up. The best thing is my hot water bottle kept close to your body it retains body heat all night
Until it goes cold. We don't use them or felt the need to. HAPPY HOPPING 👌🏼 👍🏼
I have UCO lanterns that I make my own candles for as they're stupid prices ... but they raise the temp inside the tent by a few degrees but also help to dry the air a little ... obviously gotta be careful and would possibly be a bit unsafe with the dog in the tent but can be a real benefit in harsh conditions ... great to see you doing these videos though expecially given the ever rising numbers of homeless these days ... cheers and have a great new year 😉
Thanks and you too. HAPPY HOPPING 👌🏼 👍🏼
Love this channel - my girlfriend and I love to watch you - fondest regards!
Thank you, HAPPY HOPPING 👌🏼 👍🏼

Brilliant, excellent tips👍
Cheers, no worries. Hope you've had a good one Cully. HAPPY HOPPING 👌🏼 👍🏼
Hats of to you guys! I would be freezing! How you live so minimally is impressive, don’t think I could do it though…. I would at least want a cabin or a van but fair play to you.
Vans are cold,.. gots to heat those things with heat lol. Don't need a false heat source in the tent.. thank you and HAPPY HOPPING 👌🏼 👍🏼
When I used to do a lot of pushups throughout the day I didnt feel the cold in Winter as much, I think it just keeps the core body temp up.
Hi guys!
It was absolutely amazing bumping into you's on boxing day.
I was buzzing! 😁 couldn't miss the chance of saying hi. May your travels continue with blessings 🙌
@tobieleigh6868 likewise and appreciate it. Thank you ever so much and was nice to meet you. And to you too for 2025. HAPPY HOPPING Cully 👌🏼 👍🏼
And you too Cully. It is common sense, and absolutely refreshing that you/some actually gets it. You're bang on. HAPPY HOPPING 👌🏼 👍🏼
Bless you, saves on the heating bill for you too aye. HAPPY HOPPING 👌🏼 👍🏼
Thanks great video :) I've semi wild camped for 3 days over Xmas, standard tent. First night I overcompensated, was way too warm! Second night too cold and Goldilocks moment last night haha
Thank you guys for showing how it can be done, and that it can be done. Interesting stuff. All the very best.
The white skys for 3 weeks is strange isn't it?? Never used to be like that round my ends. Worrying. Great video, you both seem lovely folks. Good luck and all the best in 2025... got a good feeling your going to be succesful
Thank you very much, bless you. HAPPY HOPPING 👌🏼 👍🏼
Wear it and get busy lol 😉 but otherwise to answer... we'll do a video on it sometime too. HAPPY HOPPING 👌🏼 👍🏼
Absolutely love this freedom you enjoy well done & wishing you all the best if you ever Dorset way give us a shout welcome to pitch up in our Garden plenty of room. Best life.🤟
Thank you and all the best for 2025. HAPPY HOPPING 👌🏼 👍🏼
I wouldn't be camping with no fire 🔥 you're very brave
Just adjusted is all. Thanks and HAPPY HOPPING 👌🏼 👍🏼
@loghoppers how do u deal with damp socks how u drying your feet without a fire 🔥
Yes, we certainly notice fragrances and other such over powering smells. HAPPY HOPPING 👌🏼 👍🏼
Happy hopping great information when living in a tent great outdoors can't beat it ❤
What ‘would ‘ you like to have in your kit, but choose not to as it’s not practical to carry, heavy, bulky etc. a book? A wind up radio? I love that you live your life in a way that obviously makes your soul happy. Keep up the good work xxxx
An isle and chair lol lol. But nothing really. HAPPY HOPPING 👌🏼 👍🏼
You can soon warm a tent up even in full winter conditions. I've done a lot of camping up in Scotland during the winter. Half a dozen night lites burned for 10 minutes is a great way to initially boost the temperature in a tent.
That would require digging the ground would it not and more weight, but also... you'll end up being seen from space lol. HAPPY HOPPING 👌🏼 👍🏼
Lmao 🤣 that's awesome, straightforward and really appreciated. Thanks, glad to have ya here. HAPPY HOPPING 👌🏼 👍🏼 youtube ghosts lol 👻
Please could you do a video on the process of acclimatisation ?
Sure. HAPPY HOPPING 👌🏼 👍🏼
Another great insight into your lifestyle guys, many thanks for sharing.
I've always been a big fan of Merino Wool at this time of year as I'm a total wimp when it comes to cold weather 🤣
One thing you didn't mention, although from watching your previous videos I know you are both big advocates of is a good hat and scarf, you wouldn't catch me outdoors in the cold without mine.
A DIY plant pot & candle would give you heat, you could even bury it for added safety 👍
Absolute love and admire both your lifestyle! I've just sold my house and thinking about van life. If you two are ever up in the Cumbrian area I would love to meet up and exchange stories!
Awesome. Keep an eye out lol. HAPPY HOPPING 👌🏼 👍🏼
Hi I’ve been watching your u tube is this Tara that we went to Cornwall with Dean and your son it’s Vickie and lily and Henry remember
@lilyparker8836 nooooo DEFINITELY not, and I've Never been to Cornwall. Out of interest, how old.was the son and what year. Cheers, HAPPY HOPPING 👌🏼 👍🏼
New subscriber here, love what you're doing. Something I'm really big on myself and it's nice to find a spot where you can just chill for a few days 👍
Definitely. HAPPY HOPPING 👌🏼 👍🏼 and glad to have ya.
@loghoppers let's all hop together 👍
HAPPY HOPPING 👌🏼 👍🏼
P.s please look.at our play lists.
Awesome. HAPPY HOPPING 👌🏼 👍🏼
Merry Xmas 🎄 happy hopping guys

Merry Christmas and a Hopping New Year,
I just need to ask you lovely people, who is Callie, or Kallie?

Cully is an endearing term we use for our subscribers... it is of Irish and Gaelic origin, and the meaning of Cully is "the woods" or as a name it means great chief or hey 👋🏽 or in a female sense, it's means Dove 🕊. So just our little touch on a more heart felt greeting. HAPPY HOPPING 👌🏼 👍🏼

If you’re ever near my area (Portishead) you are both welcome to pop round and use my shower and washing machine. I admire what you’re doing, great lifestyle.
The Eskimo people rate how cold it is by how many dogs you need.
Have you watched “The Terror” I highly recommend
I'm a new subscriber and am really happy to have found your channel - you guys are so inspiring! ❤
One question: how do you dry things out in this cold dank weather?
Friends, family, clients or just keep them on and let the body heat to the work. HAPPY HOPPING 👌🏼 👍🏼
They are right, you do not need a hottent. You get used to the cold, it is also good for your body and your heart. A human being is built for temperature difference.
Exactly that. Humans are hardy creatures. HAPPY HOPPING 👌🏼 👍🏼
Thanks for the warm tips.. ❤ have a good new year ❤
And you too. HAPPY HOPPING 👌🏼 👍🏼
