  • This video shows my process of sculpting with oil clay (Plastiline). This is the 1st video of a series called “Sculpting a Renaissance Masterpiece - Michelangelo’s La Pieta”. “I had the opportunity to see Michelangelo's 'La Pieta' in person on a trip to Saint Peter's Basilica in the Vatican City (I even remember where it was in the Cathedral, straight through the main doors and on the right side, not too far from the entrance). I was in awe of this masterpiece! The emotion that the artist was able to achieve in the figures' expressions is both sorrowful and beautiful; a mother's lament for her child's death, yet, there is a sense of peace (in both of the figures' faces, who appear to be isolated from the world) that reassures us that death is not the end. Usually, when most people think of Michelangelo's work (his iconic 'statue of David' or his impossible frescos in the Sistine Chapel) some of his other work is overlooked. I wanted to try my hand at sculpting this masterpiece with my own artistic processes.”

How do u soften the clay?

    • @caseymull897

Hi, I find the easiest way to soften the clay is to use a hair dryer. I set it up on a chunk of clay and as it starts to get soft on the surface, I’ll kneed the clay and it gradually softens all the way through. Hope this helps 👍

Ok, I am a beginner, and this is not a good tutorial for me. It basically explains nothing, except some loose elements here and there, like "use tin foil for shape". Dude, you like months of experience into the game, and that is the first thing you tell? Nope.
