The fact that he had to repeat the process THRICE and with three different techniques! He first sculpted it with clay using the additive method, then make a cast with plaster of paris, and then sculpt the same out of a marble slab using the subtractive method. This is absolute monk like concentration.
@@eliseereclus3475 woah weird I knew about a material called plaster of paris but not about a friggin town that has Eiffel tower, right? Thanks for enlightenment.
I think you should change your title. Instead of putting "a scupltor", you should put his actual name. Not many people check the description and putting his name in plain view seems better.
I believe they used the word "sculpture" instead of his name so that this video would advertise in the algorithm. I think they should have used both the word "sculpture" and his name in the title.

This is the real deal! Thank you for sharing. Most people have no idea of the time and skill that goes into Mold Making and Subtractive Stone Carving. Sadly, both casting in plaster and using a point method to enlarge/transfer to stone is becoming a lost art. More exhibits and videos like this, please!
Thanks for using my music in your video ;) I've always enjoyed seeing what others have done with it... and especially when it's to discover such work. Very impressive!
For days on end a person works in complete silence, passionate about his work. What different professions, some come into contact with people all day long. And someone can be so immersed in the process of recreating masterpieces that thy don't even notice how the time of day changes outside the workshop windows. What painstaking work! How much patience and love this master has for his creations! It is clear that the man has been doing this all his life! This can't help but amaze! "The true work of art is but a shadow of the divine perfection" (Michelangelo).
Staggering. Hypnotic to watch - thank you and congrats to all involved in the commission. Not least the master sculptor! I visited another Canova piece at Chatsworth in the UK recently and wondered at the practical processes behind these beautiful masterpieces. And you’ve answered so many questions, thank you!
Mr. Fred is an amazing artist. You can see how passionate he is for this project. He threw all the problem outside the house, and just focusing on the sculpture.
This is insane, incredible! The skill, the patience, the attention to every single detail - I find it hard to fathom how people can do this, and obviously did it hundreds of years ago too.
As a professional painter I loved the sculpture study in the beginning. Its exactly how I plan out my paintings. Working out the difficult shapes like the tilt of the head before you start. Just excellent 👍
Having just returned from visiting the ancient sites and museums of Troy, Alexander Troas, Pergamon, Assus, Ephesus, Parion, Thessaloniki, Nimes, Orange, and Tarragona, my head is still spinning from the mind-boggling amount of time, skill, craftsmanship, and resources that went into creating the millions of stones, columns, reliefs, decorative and figurative sculptures, capitals, bases, arches, temples, and pretty much everything. 😊 Seeing this process can give people an idea of just how incredibly skilled and dedicated our European ancestors were.
OMG it is really labour heavy work. HUGE admiration and appreciation from me to this diligent man and his impressive art. We should also take into consideration that he was not a young man anymore, when he created these beautiful artefacts. ❤🙏❤💪💪💪👍👍👍🤩😍
I am so impressed by the stamina demonstrated by this sculptor. The true love of his art provides him with inexhaustible energy to finish a project of this size and complexity.
This was amazing. Thank you for sharing this. We visited the exhibit on Saturday. It was amazing. I watched this video on-site also & was thrilled to get to see it again!

This IS amazing, magnificent, and neato frito, but my favorite part is his newspaper hat.
Learn about the hat here! ruclips.net/video/A4iOwTbDX24/видео.htmlsi=s1ujJOHNS-XWZHhH
It’s the standard issue Italian bricklayer/housepainter hat! I remember we all knew how to make it when we were kids.
I couldn't agree more
are you truly an artist if you don't have a newspaper hat?
Easy way to keep marble dust out of your hair and simultaneously look stylish and masterful 😉
It never ceases surprising me how the two steps before the final sculpture are themselves pieces of art.

No. You are wrong. It is not the urge to be known to the times unseen which makes humans to choose , it is their fear.

Excuse my ignorance. Why is it necessary to make a plaster mold? Couldn't the artist use the clay as a model for preparing the marble version?
The biggest problem using a clay model as his reference would be the wear and tear from constant measuring.

Love that he does this by hand... this quality of marble asks you to give up your soul... and machines can't do that.

I thought he was done 3 different times before he even got to carving the block. This is an insane process.
How many days it takes to make one sculptor with full experties. I admire his efforts. Loved this man.
Absolutely incredible. I’m so thankful to witness this. I can’t wait to buy a piece from him.
And I initially thought he was done with the first casting....he's .beyond WOW
In the words of the great Keats: "A thing of beauty is a joy forever"

Superb demonstration by a master sculptor!

What incredible work from this gentleman, a true artist.
Very impressive craftsmanship! Wow!
Speechless…the talent and the execution, mesmerising.
Wow that was breathtaking ... I cannot believe the skill. Real art is another level.
I love the way the half-done marble sculpture looks
when I saw that slab of marble next to the first cast I thought “there’s no shot”. but then I was dramatically and decisively proven wrong
We could barely believe it ourselves!

Skill, patience, accuracy, determination, passion
I love the intimacy that comes with such patience - truly beautiful.
Of all the art forms in the world, music, painting, theatre, stone sculptures are on top.

So much more skilled, beautiful, respectable, and better than "modern art".
