This episode was originally posted in July 2013 and was the third in the Sandler Month series of reviews, which included this, I Now Pronounce You Chuck & Larry, Strange Wilderness, and Jack & Jill. This is a (very) re-edited version that runs 3m 12s shorter than the original, and was notably the first episode of the show I edited in HD (the Sucker Punch review is the very first, but I did not handle the editing on that). I still had the original files for this episode, which allowed me to go back to those for this re-edit, which is pretty much from top-to-bottom, and was very intensive, mostly owing to the fact that this came from my "angry phase", which I was extremely shrill and over-exaggerated, and I wanted to correct that as much as possible (but is impossible to delete entirely, so if you find me over the top here, I can only apologize). The extensive changes include: - *NEW* voiceover throughout the entirety of the review. The voiceover is really the part where I overdid it the most in the original version, and I found it grating, so like the other episodes from this period, I did it completely over. If it sounds different, its because it has been recorded on the new microphone to test it out. "Hey, we're at Pizza Hut!" was extremely hard to do without peaking out the microphone, even though it is on the lowest setting possible... - Alternate takes for almost most of the review for on-camera material, to try and bring them into a more natural way of speaking, although even then I was always trying to be as big as possible, so that may not be too noticeable. (I've tried to balance the audio as much as I can.) In addition, countless cuts to the audio to reduce dragging syllables. - The on-camera footage have had their cropping adjusted and colour balance altered to reduce the yellow tint throughout. - Replacement music during the opening and closing of the review. - General re-editing to fit the new narration, with some shots deleted entirely. - Cuts to shorten the film clips throughout. - Cropping on the film clips (from 1.85 to 1.78) adjusted, cut by cut, so there's a little bit more picture than in the original. - SD film clips (such as the extracts from Cactus Flower, and several other Sandler films) have been upscaled for this version. In addition, Jack & Jill was re-encoded, since I'm going to restore that at some point. - New title card observations at points, and film clip credits. This took a lot of time and effort to do, so I hope you enjoy it, and as you can probably guess, this is to tie in with Hotel Transylvania 3, because even Adam Sandler's animated films are going on holiday now. EDIT: I did make a small mistake correcting this video - Dave Matthews' character is Ian Maxatone-JONES. The error was in my original script, and I had obviously fixed before the first version. I've corrected that in my personal copy of this re-edit, should I have to re-upload it in the future.

Sandler has a thing for odd remakes. Such as Mr Deeds, which I maintain wasn't all that BAD, just 100% unnecessary. The thing with the little girl makes it like everyone is a pathological liar. Why not at least here tell the truth? "She's taking an acting class and has started adopting accents." Boom, done. But no, kids in Sandler movies have to have a thing. Remember his nephews in Wedding Singer? How they would say/do things that were kinda odd but also you could totally see a real kid doing? Yeah, forget that, now the kids have to have really bizarre stuff like a four-year-old still breastfeeding in Grown Ups or the boy taping stuff to himself from Jack & Jill. It's not funny or charming, it's stupid and obnoxious.

Or the girl from "Jack & Jill" dressing up like her dolls, which is uncannily creepy as fuck.
Sandler managed to stay relevant for a long time through a pretty en-genius scam. By making comedies that doubled as vacations and star'd his friends he was able to keep the budgets insanely low. Guaranteeing that no matter how bad, the movie would make double to triple it's budget. However dragging his reputation through the mud meant he was always one real fail away from being done. Which is what happened with Pixel's. A movie that actually lost money due to it having an actual budget.
It _might_ be forgivable, if it's something like an espionage flick, or a film about rescuing someone (i.e. Keanu), but light fluffy comedies where the intended endpoint is characters discovering themselves? Not so much.
Wow, your hard work re-editing this episode really shows!! If I recall correctly, this was the first "new episode" that came out after I started watching, so it's a bit nostalgic. ^-^
As someone who grew up in the same town Sandler grew up, went to the same High School and everything...i've noticed something rather strange. I'm 33 now, so when I was growing up as a teen, his early movies were a big deal and considered 'a must watch' back then. However as of now...you wouldn't be caught dead watching one of his movies, largely the modern ones. For me, Punch Drunk Love/50 First Dates were the last 'good' movies he did...but then again, he didn't direct/write them. There is another more recent one where he portrays a shoe maker (forgot the name for the profession) that was good too. So for me, it leaves Happy Gillmore as the last 'good' Sandler movie. If you notice in his early movies, stand up stuff and his CD/tape releases of his 'skits/songs', he would always talk about New England/New Hampshire. Rather repping something from the local area, to straight up using New England slang/locations, etc. Oddly enough, when he started to suck...is when he started being all about 'NY is my home' and what not . (While ironically owning property in Manchester, NH and his parents still living here, though not anymore). It's almost like his entire mindset changed as a whole. Like he needed to 're-brand' himself in some weird way. 'I can't say i'm from New Hampshire, I gotta say i'm from New York! Because people can relate to it and it's trendy/mainstream!' Then oddly enough is when he started becoming very 'main stream friendly'. You know, the type of super low brow humor crap that he's known for now. It makes me think that he hired a new manager of sorts and this person pretty much said 'if you want to make a lot of money, you're going to do X, Y and Z' and he blindly went along with it. All in all, it's a pointless things to notice, but I thought it was a strange little thing. There are a lot of aspects about Sandler that really don't add up when you compare older aspects to the more modern ones of him, even in interviews, it's like he became an entirely different person. Almost night and day different. Which is something most people tend to overlook when they mention their opinion on him as a person/his previous work, etc. I've ranted for far too long...about a pointless person and an equally pointless topic. I clearly need to go to sleep, haha.
The intro song is Jet Black Stare - Ready To Roll. I'm actually friends with the lead singer. His name is Rod Black and he now does country music. You guys should check out some of his stuff, it's great.
I'm pretty sure this was lifted from an episode of Three's Company. I guess Sandler will do a movie where he has to juggle two dates on the same night. This is something that happened to Eddie Murphy for a while. He did a string of movies where his character is legitimately a bad guy and they hoped the audience would be sympathetic due to Murphy's charm and a last minute change of heart. It didn't work.
@@jeremyusreevu237 He did movies like "A Vampire in Brooklyn" and "The Distinguished Gentleman" where his characters were mostly bad guys who were selfish jerks.
Woman takes vacation with boyfriend, boyfriend’s kids, boyfriend’s ex-wife, and boyfriend’s ex-wife’s boyfriend with whom she was having an affair. This sounds like a stupid episode of Death In Paradise.
In what universe would a woman want to go on vacation with her prospective boyfriend’s cheating wife? And said wife’s boyfriend? Why would she wanna meet this wife? And why would she wanna stay with the guy after he confessed to be marrying and thus cheating on his wife, even if that wife was an adulterer? This concept is royally stupid.
19:44 - Oh good. i was about to ask just how much it had cost Adam Sandler's character to keep up this ridiculous lie by now, but Film Brain's about to tally it up.
If Jennifer Aniston was the best thing in this, it's not surprising. She's been the best thing in every movie that I've seen her in. The bad part of that is that she apparently has terrible taste in picking roles, so it sets the bar for being the best thing in them pretty low.
so the little girl say " Im going to be the next Miley Cyrus I am" . I get this was most likely made before she when to the " im a adult look I'm doing a adult thing treat me like I am grown up " part in her life . but still that line is kind of awkward
It kills me that if they just said the kids were from a previous relationship there would be no movie. They look so stupid too trying to explain the accent when the truth would have been easier, she wants to be an actress.
In doing the math, it would seem that whole escapade cost him a little over $100,000, and plastic surgeons earn at least $300,000 a year, so while it isn't much of a stretch that he can afford all that, it does seem rather unlikely.
Seriously… when she finds the wedding ring in his bag, why doesn’t he just say the ring was his dead father’s or something? Oh, look; I just thought harder about this trashfire than Adam Sandler ever did. Stupid me.
IKR? It’s not just that; the whole concept of this movie makes no logical sense from beginning to end, it’s definitely alongside Jack & Jill and Blended as simply an excuse for Sandler to go on a free vacation with his cast and crew, which I don’t understand why he makes these kinds of movies since the guy’s a millionaire.
Adam Sandler should've been in the Razzie running for Worst Actor and Worst Actress for the Jack & Jill movie The daughter on the other hand, IMHO is a pretty good little actress; I've seen her on stand alone episodes on various tv shows since she was probably about 4, an episode of House M.D. is the immediate one that comes to mind but I know has a pretty good portfolio so far in her young life.
15:41 I do like these re-dubs of older episodes for the most part, but I think the more booming tone you had in the original review had more of a punch right there. Also Adam Sandler frivolously spending more money than any of us will see in our lifetimes really hits home how meaningless his more recent work is beyond potentially getting some more Bad Movie Beatdown material.
From the thumbnail and the name of the video, I first thought it was a movie featuring Jonny Lee Miller, but it was just that dude that "guest appears" on the Nostalgia Critic every now and then, and may or may not have a twin brother.
@@scottylewis8124 Yeah, but I remember her as that snotty little brat from Don't Be Afraid of the Dark. I felt so bad for Katie Holmes' character in that film.
Why did Sandler decide to do a remake? If he hadn’t reference that he did it, it’s not like anyone would have noticed. Especially his target demographic.
He's been in a few good movies, but most of his movies are shit. I really hate Adam Sandler, and by that I mean I hate him as an actor, not as a person.
I'm gonna go on a tangent here, considering how much I hate this film. That cringeworthy "that man put his pp on my face!" line was in the trailer for this movie. It was at that exact moment that I thought "I despise movie trailers now". And why the hell would that kid blatantly lie about that? And why was there a black kid being chased by his pregnant mom and throwing his drink at her? What the shit was the point of that? Additionally, I highly doubt that clothes and items in Beverly Hill cost thousand of dollars, along with hotel rooms in Hawaii. Does Sandler not know how costs work? And I also highly doubt that this movie would have their own go at referencing the suicide scene from the original film. I don't think Sandler is that tasteless. Also, Keegan-Michael Key (as the flamboyant hairdresser), you're so much better than this. I can say the same for Dave Matthews. (Seriously, him being gay with sailors? Has Sandler forgotten that it's not several decades ago anymore?) Anyway, that "AHAHAHAHA" broke my ear-drums, so it looks like Mathew is paying for my eardrum replacement surgery. And at least you don't see us Americans become offended whenever Cary Elwes attempts an American accent, or from what I've heard recently Benedict Cumberbatch. I mean no offense. I'm looking forward to a Will Ferrell movie being reviewed on BMB, considering he and Sandler share so much in common with each other in terms of lowbrow comedy. Sex jokes, racist jokes, shit jokes, excessive product placement, unnecessary CGI, unrealistic scenarios and dialogue... the list goes on. And judging by the massive shitstorm that was "Holmes and Watson", it looks like Ferrell is joining Sandler in the Netflix bin, if his upcoming film about Eurovision is anything to go by.
I think the kids in this film are more like the Children of the Damned, maybe the screenwriters read John Wyndham's 'The Midwich Cuckoos' one too many times. Also, yes, the girl's British accent is so annoying I had to hit the mute button every time she opened her gob.
Not so much gossip, but she had a run of expensive flops - Australia, The Golden Compass, The Invasion - and her last big comedies - the remakes of The Stepford Wives and Bewitched - were very badly received.
@@FilmBrain The golden compass was a flop? I thought it was semi-decent. I mean the actors gave good performances. Glad they ended the movie just before the book's actual ending though. that bit was freakin depressing.
Film Brain this whole film was a waste of great talent. Baily Madison was good on RL Stine's the haunting hour. Nick swordson went on to do voice work in Star vs the forces of evil. Also I feel that Sandler is starting to regret his choices.
Was ez to watch especially bikini scene . Not saying it was great but happy I watched it had its funny moments. Ohhh half into your vid I get why u hated it.
With his real wife appearing, it makes one wonder why he doesn't cast her as his love interest, in this or any other movie. And many of them noticeably younger, it's almost as if he's living vicariously through his characters.
I really hope that nose isn't a reference to Sandler's Jewish heritage. Given what I know of his other work (i.e. Eight Crazy Nights), I wonder if he hates his own people.
I don’t get how he’s hating on this movie it is my literal favorite movie and I have watched it like a million times and it makes me laugh every single time

The woman with the screwed up eyebrow was also in Click.
Rachel Dratch she's really funny in any role she plays she also like Sandler is an SNL alum
Mathew my question is why you'd have a hairbrush like that.
Those are for long hair lol.
At least Brooklyn Decker got punished for this by being cast in Battleship.

My bad.
It kills me that if they just said the kids were from a previous relationship there would be no movie. They look so stupid too trying to explain the accent when the truth would have been easier, she wants to be an actress.
LITERALLY THOUGH
"They're my (soon to be) ex-wife's children from a previous marriage". Boom. Done. That took half a second to conceptualize!
And you know the easiest and most contrived way to portray someone who wants to be an actor is by having them do accents.
Good to see this up here. Happy Madison films are CANCER to comedy.
Mercenary Knight not always. There are a few good films Madison made.
Perhaps when they are NOT in control, perhaps.....
@@mercenaryknight5419 Click is a good example. From comedy to drama like that
Not even all the world's oceans and all the clouds in the sky can quench that thirst.
The contrast between the on screen bits and the voice over is kinda jarring, but I get why it's like that.
When I was 19 years old my mom and aunt took my sister, cousins and I to see this movie and jack and Jill.
Danny’s probably bankrupt by the end of the film even on his plastic surgeon salary!
Adam Sandler not so much
In doing the math, it would seem that whole escapade cost him a little over $100,000, and plastic surgeons earn at least $300,000 a year, so while it isn't much of a stretch that he can afford all that, it does seem rather unlikely.
It would seem Sandler has finally taken a hint, because he hasn't really made any movies since 2015's Pixels.
ExplorerDS6789 he's had several movies on Netflix
Most of his films are on Netflix because of the deal. It just makes them easier to ignore.
Ain't that the truth.
My favorite Adam Sandler film is happy Gilmore.
Just go with it sounds like what Sandler said to the actors during the filming of this movie
I agree with your review of the film but 17:53 he was just trying to say the kid was wrong.
Good review, Mathew! Keep it up, my dude
Adam Sandler should've been in the Razzie running for Worst Actor and Worst Actress for the Jack & Jill movie
The daughter on the other hand, IMHO is a pretty good little actress; I've seen her on stand alone episodes on various tv shows since she was probably about 4, an episode of House M.D. is the immediate one that comes to mind but I know has a pretty good portfolio so far in her young life.
I remember her from that House ep too, hope she didn't do that crappy Brit accent around Hugh Laurie
"Dopplegangers come to steal our souls" = modern children
I watched this in cinema 😢
kasra khatir
Do you regret it?
Same, and yes
kasra khatir sorry you had to go through that.
kasra khatir You brave, brave person.
Haha you paid money for this!! :p
I also want to walk up to Sandler and whack him in the face with a bat and say, that's not funny!
Scotty Lewis Is that a Family Guy reference?
@@ericdraven_9481 yup
From the thumbnail and the name of the video, I first thought it was a movie featuring Jonny Lee Miller, but it was just that dude that "guest appears" on the Nostalgia Critic every now and then, and may or may not have a twin brother.
24:58 taking care of THUuM xD
15:42, Did Film Brain just accidentally turn on The Benchwarmers?
Can you look at GODZILLA Planet of the MONSTERS??
9:26 - Well, at least Bailey Madison is here to liven up this movie full of contemptible asshole characters.
Have to disagree, she can't act to save her life. Here and in everything else I've seen her.
@@ExplorerDS6789 she was incredible in Brothers!
@@scottylewis8124 Yeah, but I remember her as that snotty little brat from Don't Be Afraid of the Dark. I felt so bad for Katie Holmes' character in that film.
is it me or does the woman playing devlan look a lot like the actress who plays Beverly in it, just an older version
Fred Savage also played kids that acted like adults, but at least he has the charm to pull it off, unlike these kids.
I feel sorry for Bailey Madison. I was expecting Tobey McGuire to yell at her and pop a balloon.
The girl’s doing more of a Bert from Mary Poppins than Mary Poppins herself.
Dick van dyke is suing her.
Lmao @28:55!!! :)
Why did Sandler decide to do a remake? If he hadn’t reference that he did it, it’s not like anyone would have noticed. Especially his target demographic.
4:00 Actually, to me, that title screams something far more dubious...or maybe I've just got a dirty mind. :/
F'Greatjob! I have subscribed!
to Adam Sandler i say have you not seen Fatal Attraction
He's been in a few good movies, but most of his movies are shit. I really hate Adam Sandler, and by that I mean I hate him as an actor, not as a person.
You’re a clown
Missed opportunity for a Miley Cirus joke
Has Sandler forgotten that it's not several decades ago anymore?)
Anyway, that "AHAHAHAHA" broke my ear-drums, so it looks like Mathew is paying for my eardrum replacement surgery.
No doubt Dave Matthews phoned in his performance. How embarrassing.
Hey Mateew, do you repeat shirts?
Sometimes. I just have lots of shirts.
@@FilmBrain Wow! That's what I thought!... thanks!
Is anyone else going to comment on Sandler's huge nose just shrinking without explanation after the opening?
7:03?
Kimi FW oh, guess I missed that, thanks
Sandler is great when he’s under a great director like PTA
Richard Roeper put this in his worst movies of 2011.
I actually had the chance to tell him that I loved his review of it and he appreciated that I remembered that.
28:24, Where?
What about Blended?
I never read these "celebrity gossip" magazines, nor such stuff on the net, so I am woefully unaware, what was so toxic about Nicole Kidman?
Not so much gossip, but she had a run of expensive flops - Australia, The Golden Compass, The Invasion - and her last big comedies - the remakes of The Stepford Wives and Bewitched - were very badly received.
@@FilmBrain The golden compass was a flop? I thought it was semi-decent. I mean the actors gave good performances.
Glad they ended the movie just before the book's actual ending though. that bit was freakin depressing.
@@TheBonkleFox someone died didn't they?
@@scottylewis8124 I'm not gonna spoil it. i just can't.
@@TheBonkleFox a war breaks out.
No mention of Terry Crews?
He's not in this.
Oh yeah. Sblended I'm a sbellend sorry.
Film Brain this whole film was a waste of great talent. Baily Madison was good on RL Stine's the haunting hour. Nick swordson went on to do voice work in Star vs the forces of evil. Also I feel that Sandler is starting to regret his choices.
This is not blended
He always brings up good points but I can't bare the cringe over-acting
Try the newer stuff, that don't always end up in the recommendations.
@@FilmBrain Hope you didn't take it the wrong way, love the recent content
I'm not a fan of the overacting from this period of my vids either.
I can't understand what you're saying when you get angry
Oh my god....just the clips alone are reason enough to not watch it.
Brilliant
Was ez to watch especially bikini scene . Not saying it was great but happy I watched it had its funny moments. Ohhh half into your vid I get why u hated it.
With his real wife appearing, it makes one wonder why he doesn't cast her as his love interest, in this or any other movie. And many of them noticeably younger, it's almost as if he's living vicariously through his characters.
I'm not sure if she does a lot of acting, though, aside from relatively brief spots in Sandler's films.
You stole that joke from johnny test
What joke?
@@scottylewis8124 That joke from johnny test where johnny and his dog went to see this action comedy and he was saying it's a thill ride
I really hope that nose isn't a reference to Sandler's Jewish heritage. Given what I know of his other work (i.e. Eight Crazy Nights), I wonder if he hates his own people.
HerrNilssonTheMonkey not true but ok
I don’t get how he’s hating on this movie it is my literal favorite movie and I have watched it like a million times and it makes me laugh every single time
I really enjoyed this movie, it had me laughing a lot. It's a great family movie overall. Underrated film to me.
