This review was originally posted in July 2012, of which this is a re-edited version (upscaled to HD), and was the 100th episode of the show produced - and coincidentally, marks 100 videos in the Bad Movie Beatdown playlist, because I like symmetry like that. This version runs 2m 36s shorter than the original - this was originally released in two versions, one with cameos and one without (this is based on the former) - with the usual cuts for pacing and film clips, as well as one or two jokes that I don't feel have aged very well; re-cutting the film clips was especially challenging here because many scenes are in static extended shots, so there's quite a bit of fades here, and I've also slowed down footage or used still frames for sections where it played lengthily under narration. The cameos contain quite a few in-jokes, so don't worry if you don't get them (I'm sure I'll tell the stories elsewhere if asked in the comments). I guess this is to coincide with the UK release of Hotel Transylvania 3, which is this weekend... yeah, we'll say its to tie with that and not because of the 100 thing. Anyway, enjoy! EDIT: I did uncover some things about the film recently. It was created in the span of 3 months, having been written in 3 days and filmed in 8, on an $800,000 budget. It was very briefly theatrically released in one LA theater under the title of "The Unsinkable Shecky Moskowitz" (as I hinted in the review), and apparently also went by "Babes Ahoy" for a time. The film can also count another person who went onto greater success among the cast - Dan Povenmire, the co-creator of Phineas and Furb, is one of the members of Croaker's band.
I didn't cut any other jokes, I don't think. I don't think Ebert named this as the worst of 1989. Hardly anyone saw it then. And... er... whoops! I'll add it to the playlist now.
@@galleryofrogues According to TV Tropes he even somehow got his name taken off of TV listings of the movie, so it just looks like he was in a really long cameo.
It's rather "hilarious" to hear an Adam Sandler character claim that joking about incest is gross and unfunny when years later he was involved with "That's My Boy", a film where, among many other gross and unfunny things, a sister got caught cheating on her fiance with her own brother.
Think about this for a second. This is the movie Adam Sandler is personally ashamed of. Grown Ups? He's OK with that. That's My Boy? He's OK with that. This movie? Personally ashamed of.
I have a weird feeling that if this movie ever came back into the mainstream media, it would probably have Adam Sandler re-enacting scenes for a sketch on Jimmy Fallon 🤔
I like to think that the terrorist assassins used the dictators secret flying time machine and landed in the exact coordinates of the cruise ship. It's about as stupid as the actual movie.
Sandler used to make some films I didn’t mind, like Happy Gilmore and Little Nicky before he dedicated himself to destroy comedy itself. Though in all fairness, recently, he’s been doing better, like in The Meyerowitz Stories. He’s even doing a Sadfe Bros movie. Excited for that.
Sandler is weird that way. He clearly can act if he wants to. I’m assuming the Safdie film is good stuff and his performance in PDL and Meyerowitz were also great.
Phantomshadow224 that would have been wrong as he did not add monkey bones to the playlist so it would have been 101 but it's still the 100 as he add money bones after I pointed that out on the pinned comment
I really liked Adam’s comedy tape in my teens. Laughed and laughed so much... one day I found it in an old box of mine and said, “This was so funny back in the day, I gotta show my friends at work!” Was allowed to play any kind of music where I worked (head/porn shop;)... played it for a friend who was much younger than me... After a few minutes we both looked at each other and he said, “WHAT THE FUCK IS SO FUNNY ABOUT *THIS* “ Then we both laughed at how horrible it was. Just a lame story of my Sandler Experience ;)
The joke is that since the characters can't decide on a shit, neither can the filmmakers. Again, REALLY obvious. You can not find it funny, sure, but to not recognise that as the joke? Come on, man.....
Not sure, but I think it's a reference to this shitty Top Cat movie that existed for a few seconds. Mat reviewed it on Projector and it was quite a bit shit.
So this whole movie is basically an excuse for softcore porn in the days before the internet, huh. I'd like to see a movie in which women in swimsuits not only have their skin revealed, but their true personalities as well. Perhaps it's about a series of women (and maybe even men) who go on vacation with themes of deception and hiding one's true self and the circumstances cause these people to stop decieving others for one reason or another. Does that sound like a good idea for a movie? Does that sort of movie exist?
