You deserve far far more but a small token of gratitude for you sharing wisdom and knowledge with us all. This is going to help me finally be able master double bass
I've been playing with a single pedal for 11 years and i just bought my first double pedal. I have such a hard time keeping a beat when using it. It's definitely going to take some getting used to but this video helped, thank you.
Glad I could be of any help! If you want a system to help you build speed and endurance on your double pedals, I've got a pre sale going on for a course. You can check it out here: www.cameronfleury.com/doublebassendurance
Probably around 190 is where I top out with 2b sticks. I like the 2bs cause I have big hands for a 13 year old lol(btw my birthday is Thursday turning 14)
Instant sub, finally someone did this class, saved my life, I have searched for it everywhere, even got a Drumeo subscription, but nothing gave me EXACTLY THIS! Good work and thank you so much
Learn how to play quads and learn how to blast on the ride and snare. Pretend that you're just doing a drum roll but you're right hand is hitting the ride. To make it more interesting you can accent on the ride bell on 2 and 4 till you get better and then use your imagination.
If you want to learn something specific let me know in the comments, and i'll see if I can accommodate! As always remember to SUBSCRIBE and HIT the notifications bell so you don't miss a thing!
Could you go into leg/foot mechanics? Should I be playing from the ankles or should I be playing from the hips (bringing the knees up and dropping them)?
Can you do a tutorial on how to play more slightly advanced rhythms on double bass??? Like different partials of 16th notes for example instead of straight 16ths??? Thanks!!!
3:29 This drum part is for backing track for "Faint" by Linkin Park! If you don't mind if I extend this part and cut the whole video except the part of 3:29 to 3:45?
Late to the party I know! But just wondering- are you burying the beater with heels up? I'd like to avoid that, so would you recommend I use a kind of Moeller-style foot technique? I find it hard to balance on my stool with heels up, unless I do bury the beater. Thanks!
What do you think about the axis pedals? There's a video you youtube where the dude is saying they are pieces of junk that tear themselves up. He said eating themselves. I seen Samus had them so i thought they must be good but it seems a lot of guys said the same things about them breaking easy. I was looking at the Pearl demondrives since Gene Hoglan uses them.
The axis pedals have been great! My right heel block is starting to loosen up, but they now make a revamped version to replace their existing heel block. Everything can break easy if you don't take care of your gear.
Hey Cameron, I am having trouble readjusting my kit around my double pedal. I’m having trouble finding a position where I can comfortably move my feet between the bass pedal and the hi hat. And tips?
If you don't have a hi hat stand with legs that are able to swivel, it can be difficult. Typically I'll place one of the legs over the foot board. It doesn't give you much room, but it's cheaper than buying a new stand.
Could you help me? I play double bass one year and during this year I was one time in great condition, I could play 160-170 bpm for not a long time, but I could. Now I do not know what happened, but last two months I can't play 130bpm. I'm very depressed.. I was trying to play swivel technique, but im tempo around 130-140 bpm I stucked and I can't play faster. Than I one month played an ankle motion but same things happened. At ankle motion I had problem with left leg, when I played, the left never be so good like right leg. Now i have no idea what to do, so I really want some advice, because I'm totally broken.
Hi Cameron just wondering do u need a specific type pedal for double bass ,Im just starting out and have a dw double bass pedal but wondering is to heavy set for it or is it just down yourself thanks
Little trick to get faster to good double bass chops : keep a constant 16th double bass pattern while practicing hand rudiments (doubles, paradiddles, flams, etc), alongside a metronome that has the 16th-note subdivisions.
Can you help me? Do you think if I'm right handed and i play double bass leading with my left foot? Do you recommend me begin from scratch and doing leading with the right foot?
Nothing like cruising through your "watch later" playlist and then realizing half a second in that the last several videos you've been watching were at 1.5x speed. "How the heck is Cam playing tha.... OH."
heel up or heel down? cuz my shins arent necesarily week i just have a hard time. its easier to play fast heel up but then jts harder to multitask and play the snate
Most of the time i'm playing heel up. It might be easier to play faster because you're not used to that motion at slower tempos. Try just playing your kicks and then slowly add the snare and other elements of the drum set. I know it's frustrating, but try and isolate where you're running into problems and work on that.
@@CameronFleury Okay! is it a good idea to practice heel down on slower parts of a song and then heel up om faster parts? for example on psychosocial, the intro might use heel up becuase its faster wheras the verse uses heel down because its slower. or nightmare by a7x, how the verse uses heel down while the double bass chorus uses heel up. if you understand what im saying, then is that the right way to approach songs or should i just stick with one or the other heel method?
They're both great techniques, and you should do what feels most comfortable for you. If it helps you drum longer and doesn't cause you any pain, then go for it. Learn the premise of the techniques then apply them to the drums based on what you understand and are physically capable of playing. Hope this helps!
I’ve been playing double bass for about 4 months now and when I try to do a constant double bass beat my legs get really tight it feels like and they give out on me. Any advice?
Don't give up! Try using a few different techniques. Check out my double bass drumming playlist here:Double Bass Drum Lessons and Techniques: ruclips.net/p/PL2AO1TehtZv63uVAcH3A6G9WfXNqZf8xV
If you're feeling pain in your hips, you need to reevaluate your technique and your posture. There should not be any pain. If you can put a mirror beside you while you're playing, I'd highly suggest doing so. Sounds like maybe you're using quite a bit of force from your legs?
i used to be able to do pretty well at double bass, like 1/16 at 160-170 but for some reason overnight i lost it and can’t do it at all ( i think at least partly because of overthinking it) so here i am having to fucking relearn double bass ffs
Don't sweat it man. Those are the most awkward tempos between full leg and ankle motion. We're human after all, some days are better than others. Keep it up 🤘
Honestly, been drumming over 10 yrs even with double pedal... Never been able to get anything descent learnt skill wise with it. I can't seem to pick up any speed anymore both hands and feet wise, it's really depressing :(
Axis pedals are horrible for me. So fragile and slippery u have no control with them when going into grove beats that require hard hitting. So frustrating! I would love to be able to do 16th note and faster constant double bass cause that’s the music I love but still can’t after 20 years of playing. I crush 8th note double bass and patterns. Hitting soft and relying on triggering makes me lose control. Bass pedals can’t go high enough in tension for my liking. It’s crazy. I guess I’m just not meant for fast constant double bass. It gets in your head and drives u nuts!!!

Dude you should do a hand or foot technique for blast beats. I try to blast but my left hand can’t keep up.🤘🏻
Definitely on the list of lesson videos! What’s your max bpm before you start to become inconsistent?

Not what I meant when I searched double bass, but I wasn't disappointed.
Thanks for this. Just started playing double bass this week. These exercises will definitely help. Much appreciated!

I'd love to see a vid on essential metal tom fills

I think it also helps that you have a double bass pedal made by skynet, holy crap that thing is awesome.

Getting a drumset sometime before new years. Can't wait to get started.

@@CameronFleury great.. Keep your pace cam!
Amir Hidayatullah thanks man will do!
What method are you using to keep your hi hat closed while you play, as a default setup will leave it open while your left foot is on the bass pedal?
Yup! Some drummers have a second set of closed hats for this reason.
