I’ve never been successful with my double bass playing. This unique breakdown is superb. Now I have something I can a work on to improve. Your very last tip, using you left foot to play standard beats was I think the best. You’ve put into words what I go through exactly. That’s a gift you have man. Thank you. I subscribed and liked a quarter of the way through. Terrific job!
I just added a second kick drum. I can use my left or right foot to play single kick stuff. But working on playing double kick stuff is the tricky bit.
Really happy to hear that, @anugrahahabil3663! If you found this video to be the best, maybe you'd enjoy diving deeper with our membership lessons. Check it out: welcome.drum.dog
Also for a really cool galloping sound like in the 4 hoursemen by metallica just do tip number 5 but triplets instead of doubles, it sounds a little cooler and more intense but is about the same difficulty. It also helps build up the leg strength and stamina if you do it as a warm up
the tip i didn't get on this video. When you don't use a double pedal but still only a hihat on your left ( for righty drummers) play with the hihat during a beat when using the bassdrum foot. Normally you will go exactly between a (bassdrum) note by pressing bass foot pedal/right hand on hihat and the moment the bass foot hits then open/release immediately the hihat left foot. >> you will get the bSSSHHTT sound.... The feeling of double bass playing will already develop automatically, ( because the left will follow the right foot) in this way you develop a excelent timing on your left foot. This helped me a lot in my double bass playing during the years even before i played double bass :) enjoy!
Just started double kick drum today and wow I feel like I have no idea what I’m doing lol. But already after all morning of practicing I just got the one alternating tip one lmao
Glad it was helpful Stephen 🙂 Cymbals are: -Meinl Byzance 15" Dual Hats -Meinl Byzance Extra Hammered 20" Thin Crash -Murat Diril 21" Mosaic Ride -Sabian AA 19" Holy China
I've really noticed that my left foot has a lot less control than the right, for double bass and even for more complex hi hat stuff. I've tried playing basic beats with just the left foot and it's sorta worked but I'll definitely try to invest more time into it
I have a tip, just play beats while your driving and use the left foot for bassdrum. That will improve the feel of left foot over time a lot, later you implement it to the kit on double bass pedal. :)
Drum Dog, so Ypou place the slave pedal on the outside of your Hi Hat pedal? I just got my first double pedal. I will "try" this lesson with interest. Hey, I'm 69 YO, it takes a lot of Time to accustom to these things. THX and Be well. FYI, I resumed drumming after a50 YEAR Hiatus as a Teenager. I play for Recreational pleasures only -m playing to My Music of Basic Rock and Roll.
Great to hear you're getting back into drumming again, enjoy! 😁🥁 For the slave pedal placement, it's totally personal preference to place it either side of the hi hat pedal. Go for whatever feels most comfortable to you!
Breath control can be a real killer, we completely understand! Give this a shot: practice at a lower tempo, say 90bpm, and focus entirely on your breathing while playing constant 16ths with your feet. Practice each foot individually playing 8ths if you need to, the key is to try to let the playing happen without your input, and focus entirely on relaxed and regular deep breathes. When it feels comfortable, slowly pick up the tempo by 2 or 3 bpm each time, making sure you get the same level of relaxation before moving up! Hope this helps 🥁🐕
Haha that avenged sevenfold song is on in my drum room and listening to this video started playing it 3 bars ahead to What I was hearing from the other room…..Super Weird!
Those are called mid tempos and are a pretty damn hard tempos to play at. I'm facing the exact same issue (but I can't play ankle motion yet) and I think the key to solve this is to find your "sweet spot" on the pedal board. For example, let's says you're playing 140bpm 16th notes run using leg motion, If you find it too fast but still too slow for ankle motion, just go a little backwards on you pedal board and so on until you find the tempo where you have to use ankle.
Another super important “trick” which is overlooked approx 99.9% of the time, is the shape of the cam. Pretty much anything ever mentioned about double bass should address this first n foremost. Is it a perfect round sprocket or off-center? It’s bizarre how no one for whatever reason wants to me too it. Really one of the few reasons that separate pro pedals and everything else w a cpl obv exceptions. Yes beater placement n foot board adjustment blah blah blah matters too but not as much as the shape of the cam. Most of us like the off-center cam n some dig the round sprocket. That’s all that really needs to be mentioned lol y’all gotta start being more honest and jus be straight up with ppl w/o clogging up our feeds w the same stuff everyone else puttin out there.
*The Double Kick bass sound is the worst sound in rock music history. It is for drummers who have poor stick control and poor imaginations.* My friend John JR Robinson never has needed a double kick bass pedal of any kind.

This guy has it spot on! That second example is me all over
i've been playing for nearly 30 years and that is still me...
I like that you put your pedal on the outside of the hat pedal - makes more sense to me
Been playing extreme metal for over 14 years, my biggest challenge is to make my pedals responsive.
Tysm this was super useful and I made beats immediately with these tips as soon as I learnt them
Your set sounds awesome! Nice set up, and miking; really appreciate it as a soundguy!
Much appreciated!
That last one is so cool! Definitely gonna add these to my practice routine 🤘
Nice video, bud!

This is the tutorial I needed. Instant subscribe. Massive thanks.
Awesome, thank you!

Great tips pal
This video is SO helpful, thank you!
Love it!🤘🤘
Brilliant video.
Been workin hard on beginning Double bass . Ty or putting in some decent exercises.
excellent! thnx very much..
Cool tips ! After 40 years of drumming I bought a single pedal …instant humility 😂😂😂😂😂 back to being a beginner

ヤバい!That's awesome. I'm motivated. I `ll stick it!
Very well done video lesson....I'll be using it as a student aid! Thank you....
Glad it was helpful!
Great! If only there were drum tabs to go along with it
Great vid!!! Awesome playing!!
Great edit man thank you for sharing. I got a lot from this.
Something that helped me with left foot was car drumming. Your right foot is busy on the gas pedal, so play all kick with the left foot while driving.
great lesson. keep it going :)
3:34 bro thought he could play bat country without us noticing
Thanks dude. Dope video!

Great video! I notice you have your slave pedal outside your hi-hat. Did you use an extended length rod? I’ve been looking for one.
Hi there just to let you know that your comment we'll be answered in our comments video dropping later today.
what would that first one look like on sheet music?
Hey Drum Dog, searching for an upgrade to my DW7000. Is this the iron cobra 900? Speed cobra? Thanks
Great tutorial. I notice you have your slave pedal on the outside of your hi hat pedal, I do the same as I like my hi hat to be close.
Yeah, Its great and it does Ryan's head in if he has to sound check the kit 🤣
This helped me a lot, what kind of cymbals are you using, I love the sound
Glad it was helpful Stephen 🙂
Cymbals are:
-Meinl Byzance 15" Dual Hats
-Meinl Byzance Extra Hammered 20" Thin Crash
-Murat Diril 21" Mosaic Ride
-Sabian AA 19" Holy China
For some reason my PDP double pedal doesn't extend out enough to go on the left side of the Hi hat pedal.
Nice video what is the cymbal on the left side near the hihat please. Thanks
crash cymbal

Same here. I try to play with my left foot as much as possible. My problem is staying in time. My feet ALWAYS want to speed up. It’s so frustrating!
How do I get my slave pedal that far over to the left? Mine is fully extended and yet my knee is still millimetres away from the snare.
What kind of Crash is that on your left
No.5 aka the Ensiferum beats

4:42. I was hearing laid to rest by Lamb of God
I only play single pedal but double pedal can be cool
❤❤❤❤❤
Is a good tortorial😆
i've played bass with my left foot jammin in my automatic car for years
I have serious problem of holding my breath when I play constant double bass above 140bpm 16th notes...

I cant play over 140 bpm i dont know i can play ankle motion at 180 to 210 but cant just play 160 150

Uffffffff 💣💣💣😎👌
The last one is cheating❤(tip number 5.)❤
I thought this was a great list for beginners.
I like to play some of my favorite beats with my left foot as a warmup before double bass beats
You forgot the fake continuous triplet!

My right leg is great my left leg has a sickness called “Biden brain”
Buy two bass drums not a Pedal. ✌️🤘☠️
You'll still be needing another pedal 😆
No talk of any foot technique or anything.
Ok, where are the tips? That’s just obvious stuff.
