So I’m looking at this amazing build and saying to myself, I’ve got that tool, that machine and that machine so yeah, I can do this. Then I went to my drawer of skill and knowledge and realised how empty it was. I mean it echoes in there. Probably should have invested in the tool between my ears first. 😛
I can't tell you how complimentary and refreshing that comment is. The usual comment is "yeah, I could build that too if I had all those tools." People seem to forget that tools don't drive themselves, nor do they take into account design, joinery layout, wood movement, grain direction, etc. The tools only do what we tell them to do...well, most of the time...😂
a god level mode of woodwork. wood working and camping are among my most favorite content on youtube. I plan on doing some diy projects but probably just gonna do the simpliest and easiest way the pocket hole and wood glue lol.
Videos like this really help me realize that I don't know s*** about anything. I am an expert in nothing... But I love woodworking anyway! Thanks for the lesson in humility 😅
This video was incredibly impressive. So much knowledge and skill, and better yet you share it all without hesitation. I've been making furniture for almost 4 years and learned a few great things in this. Thank you!
Sir. I came to know about you on Instagram. You are the most skilled, intelligent and knowledgeable person i have ever known in the field of wood working. I have never seen any of the tools you have been working with in my country. Respect your knowledge. Fan from india Sir.
Keith, you inspire me to get back into woodworking. After we had our first son years back I just never had time to go down into my workshop. Then we moved and I sold all my woodworking tools. But now that my kids are older and I have more free time, watching your videos makes me want to create again. Thanks so much.
Wow! You just inspired ME! It's comments like yours that make all the hours of editing and filming worth it. So, thank YOU! And best of luck getting back out in the shop and making some sawdust. Just be sure to wear a respirator 😉👊
The videos/projects just keep getting better!!! The console table is absolutely beautiful. To anyone wondering if the patreon membership for KJ is worth it, I can vouche that it 100% is!!! KJ has helped me in numerous ways via patreon, thank you sir This is my first time seeing the l-fence, thanks for sharing.
Wow! I’ve been working with wood for a few years now, but I don’t think I’ll reach your skill level. I am amazed at what you do with wood. And I love your wit and humor that goes along with it. I’m so glad you are putting videos out again. I really missed them when you took that break. You are my top three RUclipsrs.
My man! Thanks so much, Mike! That's very humbling. And thanks for watching since the beginning...I definitely have regrets about taking such a long break to focus on Instagram, but it's full speed ahead now! 👍
What a simple, yet stunning piece of furniture. I bet it will last for generations even if some weirdo paints it purple down the road. There are not many woodworkers that put that much thought into grain orientation like you and that really makes a great piece separate from an amateurish one. Congratulations!
😂😆 OMG purple paint...can you imagine?!?! You're probably right, though...all that effort just to slather it in paint and make it look like a giant eggplant. Well, hopefully it will still be functional. LOL. And thanks for the kind words! 🙏 👍
I would seriously buy this, it looks fantastic for my wall here, i dont have the tools to make this myself, ill leave the craft to others. Two of these floating in the room here on my left would clean up the place, and make it look fancier
In depth tutorial for the dude like me who is about to start building TV console. Wish me luck haha - I've never built anything that complex before so fingers crossed
I built an almost exactly same looking cabinet. 4 solid wood doors with continuos grain, push to open, dovetail batton stabilized. Nobody, I mean nobody has ever noticed any of those details :-/. At least I am happy now that even professionals would build it the same way.
Beautiful cabinet, and a great video. Dovetail battens are a time-tested method to keep panels flat. Unless abused, this piece will last for hundreds of years.
I love your optimism, Rich! I sincerely hope you are correct...you just never know when wood is gonna stand up and smack you square in the face no matter what you do to control it. 😜
Steve!!!! Great to hear from you mate!! If you are a subscriber to Fine Woodworking online you can access their build article under "the Incredible L-fence"
Really beautiful work, Keith! It looks amazing! 😃 I really need to find those hinges here in Brazil... They're amazing! Stay safe there with your family! Cat included! 🖖😊
Nice and clean simple design . Great piece love the way you did the cleats . i also have done cleats like those on a chest lid and have had great results. Thanks Keith
i had no idea how much i didn't know until i watched this gorgeous piece get made. GEE THANKS KEITH. kidding, i loved it and will definitely be following up on the barrage of knowledge bombs dropped here.
I really enjoyed the door movement part. You don't see those kind of advanced techniques as often. I don't know if I could justify that extra time for an almost hidden detail (unless those doors really expected abuse) but it was fun to see how it's done.
Thanks Brent! The extra time was worth it to make sure those doors remain flat...at least hopefully they stay that way. LOL. But i've never heard back from the client, so they must be good!
I absolutely love these doors. I've done some similar (but much more crude) techniques with dovetail battens for a few pieces around the house and for friends, AFTER I saw this video for the first time. It was a great technique and I've enjoyed using it to up my own game and build some more skills.
I love staring my Saturday mornings off with you, #shopsoundspodcast and a video, can't get much better. It has been great watching this come together in your stories so seeing it all wrapped up in one video is very satisfying.
Keith, another great video. Love the combination of humor and great craftsmanship. I always learn something from your videos. Can't wait until the next one comes out.
Great video and project as usual. A tip for cutting elongated screw slots using the Domino that I've found very helpful - layout Domino center lines on opposite faces - cut a 10mm slot on the top face using the medium width setting. Then cut a 5mm or 4mm slot on the opposite face (again medium width setting). Manipulate the plunge depths as required. This accomodates a #10 or #8 wood screw (washer head type) nicely. I posted process on the FOG (Festool Owners Group), if you're interensted.
GREAT content. Inserta hinges are a game changer. However when I use Blum's push to open mechanism (Tip On) on hinged doors I typically use a "free swing" hinge which pops the door open way further than the soft close hinge and also helps not have to manually push the bumper in before you close a door that has soft close hinge on it.
Thanks Taylor! Good tip! These hinges allow you to turn off that soft close mechanism, so if the client doesn’t like the way they operate currently they can turn it off. 👍🏻
What great build! Really beautiful :D One quick question. What made you use the L-fence over the track saw for the scribing cuts? Cheers and thanks for sharing.
I've been following along with your Instagram stories this year, and the video is great, but I'm glad I followed live. Seeing you react and just solve all the issues as you went was just inspiring to see. Never any real panic, just smart, clever and well executed ideas with great skill. Thanks for sharing!
Nicely done Keith! I have heard you and other mention those hinges before but it didn't register that they were an expansion type of fit. I really like them. Those could certainly be game changers in certain wood types.
Great build!! You should advertise custom coasters with every furniture build just in case someone rests their drink on your great creations. I'd advise them not to rest their drinks there, but people aren't always perfect.
This came up in my feed randomly...but hey....you got a new subscriber. I'm really impressed.....with the details you put in ...love your workshop......and the kitten ❤️
Keith - have you done a more in-depth video on the L-Fence? It seems like a basic concept and simple for regular cuts, but I would like more info on how to set it up for a miter. Awesome solution!
Wow, wow, wow... I can’t tell you how much I enjoyed watching this. You’re attention to detail is breathtaking. The ability to elegantly craft simplicity is the mark of a master. Thank you for sharing... out of curiosity do you ship to Canada?
