Hello Katarina, I'm Michele from Italy. Is it possible to use Mypurmist inhaler without the sterile water they sell?

Hi! I'm a professional singer and have been struggling with nodules for 3 months now.. I just discovered your channel and wanted to say thank youuuuu so much for your amazing videos and tips🙏 I'm trying to rest my voice as best as I can, do straw exercices everyday, steam, drink lots of water, I see a speech therapist, try to release the tension in my larynx and especially in my jaws (this is where I'm most strained apparently)... anything more I could/should do, please?😭 in a couple months, I'll start singing multiple times a week again, for 4 to 5 hours everytime, and I'm getting really nervous because my voice gets tired (I even feel pain) everytime I speak or sing a little bit too much, even if I pay real attention to how I'm using it🥺 thank you🫶

Hi Eva, I am sorry to hear that you are dealing with a voice issue. I just published a new video about vocal effort and I think it is important for you to pay attention to it. When dealing with vocal nodules, the main recommendation is to use less effort and use your voice less frequently to give your voice a chance to heal (e.g. "half effort, half the time"). On top of that I recommend that you start dealing with your emotions about your voice because they can bring on a lot of extra tension (I made a lot of videos on this topic). Finally, I am sure you are already doing this with your therapist - optimize efficiency of voice production. If you have any questions, let me know.

Thank you. This is very helpful. You suggest a mister and a dehumidifier. So do you use both devices at the same time?

I mentioned a steamer, a nebulizer and a humidifier (not a dehumidifier). I don't use any of them at the same time. A humidifier runs beside my bed at night, the other two can be used throughout the day. I hope this makes it clear.

Hi Katarina, I was sick a couple years ago with a cough that would not go away for months. Ever since then my voice has been tired, hoarse and strained. Any tips?

The first step is to have your voice evaluated by a laryngologist to see what your vocal folds look like and how they function. Based on the findings, the doctor will recommend the next steps.

How many times do i use the steamer in a day.i suffer from mild phonetory gap and have a hoarse voice.

The goal of using steamer is to hydrate your vocal tract and potentially vocal folds. Use it as needed. Are you dehydrated and cannot drink enough water to systemically hydrate? Then use it twice a day for a few minutes. If you are well hydrated, then once a day or even a few times a week should be sufficient. However, hydration may not be the "thing" that will help you overcome your voice issue. Maybe voice therapy, voice exercises or something else is more appropriate. It depends on the cause of your vocal issue.

Have you had your voice evaluated by a laryngologist? I would start there. Here is a link to a free resource: www.vocalfreedomsystem.com/ent
