    I want to thank you so much. I would experience tension so much and it was hard to sing high notes without strain. Immediately after doing your exercise I noticed my voice is more relaxed, deeper, and looser. Thank you!

    I am in disbelief. I have searched for a cure, for someone to tell me exactly what has been going wrong with my voice for the past six years. I've gone to ENT's, doctors, a vocal coach, who have never been able to properly diagnose my symptoms. I came across your videos and started to recognize that I had all those symptoms you described, and it made sense why I have been having so much trouble with my voice! It wasn't acid reflux like everyone had been saying - it's the muscles!!! THANK YOU FOR MAKING THESE VIDEOS. You have saved my life. I had lost my hope. And now I've found it again, thanks to you, Katarina!!! I will be asking a few questions in the future, and hope that I will be lucky enough to catch you!!! I love you for being so willing to teach us all what you know. Thank you!!!

      Hi Tatiana, it is very nice to meet you and I am glad you found my channel. I am glad that you found the videos helpful. Please, ask questions. I will answer if I know. Regarding your ENTs and doctors: sometimes, doctors don't have enough experience with professional voice users and singers. They may be more general ENTs. So, I would suggest that you look for a specialist - laryngologist or voice specialist that specializes in voice issues.

It offers quick fixes from glorified drug dealers quite often.. without providing you with real answers.. to where the side effects are worse than any illness you may have had in the beginning. They don't want you to realize that we create our own illness and disease in the body with our thoughts and our words and our programming from childhood, because if you knew that, then you'd realize that you were the one that heals you, your body heals you.❤ the medical system the US is not based on common sense it's based on keeping people in the system and making money😢

    Ms. Katarina, I have struggled with my voice for longer than I care to admit. Generally, people dont realize how voice is an extension of who you are. I've run across so many resources; Kristin Linklater once said that "You dont want your voice to be heard. You want yourself to be heard". Thank you for helping me not express my voice, but be able to articulate who I am. You are amazing and I am grateful.

    Katrina, I want to thank you. The comments are turned off on the "cant stop clearing your throat" vid so I'm doing it here. After a severe covid cough and then continuing to sing in my band, I ended up with a chronically hoarse voice and nonstop throat clearing...for a year! Two weeks ago, I watched your vids...went back to nsaids(at below prescription doses) very monitored "soft" throat clearing,making myself pause for longer and longer periods in between and throat massage...Today I barely cleared my throat! There is very little pain and much, much less tension in my neck. A very deep heartfelt thank you- you are a badass!

As I said in the video, it is not for everyone but if you are ok with touching your neck and throat, this therapy technique can release a lot of tension from the area. There are many other ways (you can check my videos on this channel because I talk about them all the time). It is unfortunate that the doctors were not able to give you a more concrete solution. There are very concrete ways to deal with stress that may affect vocal tension but there is way more available to us now.

    I've been having really bad hoarseness that develops throughout the day lately, and I can't really see a specialist with everyone self-isolating, and this helped almost immediately with the pain. Everything was very tense and difficult to move, so I suspect that might be the root cause of the issue. I will definitely be continuing this little by little until my throat loosens up. I know that this is the time when you probably have more practices than ever but that also means that you can preserve your voice in other situations, for example less talking on the phone, less screaming, maybe skipping a party in a loud environment. These are just a few suggestions but you get the point. Preserve your voice whenever possible.

    I sang opera professionally for 30 years. Toward the end of my career-- I retired in 2014-- I started feeling strain in my throat when singing which I thought was due to menopause. My vocal coach who I studied with for 15 years moved away and I stopped studying, but my career went on for the next 10 or so years. I started finding it difficult to sing high notes so I switched to Mezzo soprano and I was wondering it THAT caused my issues. At this point my head voice is totally gone.. can't access it at all. I have never gone to see an ENT specialist because it's too expensive and as a full time performer in the US, one never gets medical coverage. I want to start singing again after an 8 year break and I am going to try laryngeal massage and other SOVT exercises to try to get my voice back in shape. I hope it works or I will probably never sing again :( Thank you for the information! Very helpful.

    That felt very nice, I will be doing this massage regularly! I want to recommend to anyone else seeing this to consider taking a magnesium supplement (ask your doctor of course.) Magnesium has been a huge help for my throat tension. I actually had quite a flair-up of throat tension after regularly taking Vitamin D. Vitamin D without Vitamin K can lead to an excess of Calcium in the blood, which leads to muscle tension. So be careful with supplementing D too. If you must supplement D, consider adding K2 and Magnesium to your regimen (under the supervision of your doctor or naturopath- I am not a doctor, just speaking from personal experience!)

    Omg this actually felt great just on the first session! I have been feeling congested in that area (like something stuck in my throat) which generally is from my post nasal drip, but I've also noticed my voice sucks (to me at least) lately. I tried this and immediately felt to clear my throat and less tightness! Going to continue! Thank you!

    Im so glad i found this. ive had throat tension my whole life. I only recently found that it is due to strain, and could never figure out why my voice is so pleasant sometimes in the morning but gets tense throughout the day. Any vids on proper speaking techniques? because i obviously dont get it.

      Hi Jonathan, I don't have any videos on speaking techniques. But I would recommend that you seek help of a voice therapist who can show you techniques suited for your needs. Sometimes, there is a wait list to be seen by a specialist, so in the meantime, you can check out my videos on SOVT exercises that may be helpful for you too.

    Katarina you are an angel for me, ironically I use to do some of the things in the video without knowing what I was doing because it felt good but I did not do it too much because I though I may damage something. Now that I know exactly what to do it would be very very helpful, especially when the the throat hurts and I want to relax it to reduce some of the paid.
    One thing which also reduces my throat paid quickly When my throat hurts is sleep on a bed and put my head down on the floor, or any other way keep my head down and my body up as much as possible, this technique reduces throat pain very quickly.

    • @healthyvoicetips
      @healthyvoicetips  4 года назад

      Amit, if you follow instruction in this video on how to do the massage, you are safe. Also, only apply as much pressure as comfortable. This is not a race who can endure more. Also, sometimes changing head and body position may help reduce pain. I am not sure in what position you lie down but if it's working for you, then good.

    • @amittanna3806
      @amittanna3806 4 года назад

      I lie on my stomach on the bed and put my head down on the floor, also put a pillow on the floor, as more blood rushes towards my head due to upside down position, when my throat is hurting alot, pain goes down considerably and noticeably in matter of minutes. Since I have been having throat pain problem since 10+ years I have figured out few things from trial and error which help me out.
      Now that I am connected to your channel, there are few things which I will make a routine in my life one is Laryngeal Massage and second is the straw exercise. 3-4 years back both sides of my throat use to hurt when I talk, since 3-4 years now only left side of my throat hurts when I talk, right side of my throat does not hurt at all now, not sure how but it cured on its own, or maybe because I do many nephropathy things.

    Dear Katarina, I guess today is my lucky day. I've been having a horrible pain in my throat for almost two years now. Ever single day. It's stopped me from functioning, from speaking to my loved ones, from doing things I want to do... I've been SO AFRAID also. Gone to doctors, acupuncturists, everything. It all started with me over using my voice during COVID with patients. (I'm a Psychologist) There was a moment I couldn't speak anymore and that's when it all began. Done so many changes but still, it´s there. I'm afraid of talking on the phone. Of the "pressure" of speaking. Of acidic foods. Gave up almost everything. Even yesterday, I went to see a friends show, spoke to her maybe for 10 minutes afterwards. I had to grab my neck tightly all the way home, because of the strain it caused. (Feels like punishment) Today I cried watching your video, I felt a release. A truth. It's this! This is incredible. Thank you. You're making a real difference. I am starting today. And everyone that has this, too, WE WILL BEAT THIS.

      @@healthyvoicetips Hi! I only did that to help people that like me, already know why it's important to do the massage and just wanted to see which massage was going on the video. As a feedback, if you allow me, I guess the video is too long and a little repetitive, guess the subject could be presented a little more right to the point and less like a class, as it's the youtube standard. The massage was a little harsh for me, guess I'm one of the most sensitive people you talked about haha Anyway, the video is great and thank you for the time and effort you put into your channel, it does appear a lot in the final product :)

      Thank you Vinicius for your feedback. I really appreciate it. As a professional from a regulated field, I have to be careful to present information in a way that is not harmful. And laryngeal massage can be one of those methods that can hurt or be ineffective if not done properly. Therefore, I included such a long intro and I realize it may not be suitable for everyone. I value your feedback though. By the way, it took me several months to get used to doing the massage on myself. I cried the first time I did it!

    This is really great! I have this really bad habit where I tend to whisper when I talk to myself which is pretty much everyday. And I realized that it’s horrible for your vocal chords, and I really wanna learn to sing but every time I try, I get a sore throat after like 2 minutes of practicing and even after talking too. So, I thought maybe a self massage might help because I’ve been doing this bad habit for years and I finally came to my senses and said “ I Need to stop and heal my voice and muscles around it. It’s tight and probably swollen. “. My doctor said my throat looked fine but she looked really quickly though so I’m not sure if she got a good look, to me it seemed she was in a rush. And I haven’t gone back since, that was last year. Anyway the massage worked great, I will continue to do it daily, it felt strange at first so I didn’t do it very long but once I get used to it, I plan on doing it longer to get rid of all that muscle tension.

    • @healthyvoicetips
      @healthyvoicetips  3 года назад +1

      Hi Sophie, I am glad that the massage is helpful. Go slowly if it feels weird. You are not alone feeling that way. Regarding the feedback you got from your doctor, they often say that "the vocal folds look good) if there are no structural changes on the vocal folds. The issue may be "functional", so using the muscles in the throat inefficiently or with too much muscle effort. I would go back or find another doctor to have your voice checked more thoroughly and ask for recommendations as what to do next. Voice therapy may help getting rid of pain when using your voice.

      As I said in the video, a clicking noise is normal when you move it from side to side. It's the cartilages rubbing against each other. This is so cool! I recently experienced about a month of not being able to sing higher notes. There was no obvious reason, but I had my suspicions. Because it occurred during late summer, it was most likely due to seasonal allergies. It has since relaxed, thankfully. I had to laugh out loud during this lesson though.
