I thought you were gonna say "real life chameleons change their color based on mood, while kecleon changes its color based on move" it would have made for a nice pun
Cute charm is an ability that has a 30% to infatuate a pokemon (of the opposite gender) if they make a physical move that connects. Oblivious is an ability that prevents infatuation and in some generation, cures any infatuation.
Been having a pretty rough day, but to those of you seeing this comment (meaning you watched the video), I appreciate you doing so. If you want to help cheer me up, sharing and leaving a like on this video would help with that!
MandJTV oh no, what happened? I hope you feel better and that you have a good Sunday! It’s never fun having a bad day, but it’s just nature that’s it’s bound to happen to the best of us. If it makes you feel better, I really loved the video! I never really understood a lot of the abilities😂
I always find Justified a funny ability. it raises a mon's attack when it's hit by a dark-type move. the funny part about it is that the Japanese name for dark-type is evil-type so it's okay to land harder hits on someone who used an evil move, or in other words, using more force is justified. the weird part is that Justified is called Heart of Justice in Japanese. I guess someone with a just heart would be stronger when fighting against evil?
I think soneone with a just heart would get angry when an evil or dirty attack is used by an opponent, and getting angry might boost your power (like Kratos in the new GOW game with Spartan Rage).
I don't think Clear Body means "Transparent body" but some kind of "Pure Body". In Spanish at least, that's the ability name. It would make much more sense for Pokémon like Metagross or the Regis to have it. It's explained as "It has a pure body so you can't 'make it dirty' with stat-lowering techniques". Apart from this, great video, I'm totally looking forward to watching the next part
In French they have translated it in "Corps Sain" which means "Clean Body" in a medical/health sense. So the ability could refer to a body which is either self regenerating (like some medusas who can regenerate cells) or made from something which cannot be altered (steel for metagross for example)
My best explanation for Clear Body is this: moves that reduce a pokemon's stats have an effect in their target's body, Clear Body might be referring to a a pokemon's purity state, or their ability to "clear" (clean) themselves. From this line of thought, we can assume that if a pokemon with this ability has its stats reduced by something that was done to its body (either physically or emotionally), this pokemon has the ability to clean those effects away. An example for that would be a reduction of defense: this can mean two things: you were forced to drop your guard or a physical damage to your body was dealt to make you take more damage. A pokemon with Clear Body can "clean" itself of the thoughts of dropping their guard or they have the ability to repair their own bodies so such defense reducting damage would be back to their untouched stat. For the Tentacool example, as its based on jellyfish, these are mostly composed by water, so the logic might be that if they suffer a damage that leaves them vulnerable, they just need to be in contact with enough water to heal themselves. For the Metagross evolution line, either the metal they're made of is so resistant to both dentings and corrosion or their psychic powers allow them to be in a mental state that prevents them from psychological effects that would reduce their stats.
"If Ash Ketchum had to have one Pokemon ability, Oblivious would be it." On the romantic front, absolutely. But the thing is, Ash is very susceptible to goading, AKA, being taunted. You insult him or his friends, and he'll defend his pride.
Fun fact: In some cultures, shadows were believed to have a very strong connection to a person's physical body (most likely because your shadow almost never leaves your side) hence why if a Pokemon with the ability "Shadow Tag" touches an opponent's shadow they use that connection against them by controlling their movements through the shadow.
10:18 I was thinking it more as following, or "tagging" their shadow, and thus following them around and making the opponent unable to escape the fight because the user keeps following it
Copied from my tweet to you: I think that "Clear Body" is a nod towards the book "Clear Body, Clear Mind" by L. Ron Hubbard. It's about Purification Rundown, clearing yourself of long term abuse of drugs or toxic exposures. Basically rehabilitation, so by following it you're "purifying" yourself of the stat lowering moves that are inflicted. It's not so much saying stat changes have to do with light, but that they're some sort of unnatural exposure. For Tentacool, I think it's a pun that they're literally clear bodies. For the others, I think that it's more about that they're ancient or mechanical and have gained the ability to purge their bodies of impurities, like stat changes.
For Clear Body, I take it as a ghost. A ghost is a dead person, having no solid body, therefore, it won’t get effected by anything a regular person does. Idk my life is dark •_•
Suggestion: Items explained (Soothe Bell, Big Root etc.) Also I just subbed to you because I've seen your stuff and I'm liking what I'm watching, can't wait to see more!
You should have a random video of what your daily routine is. I'm curious about what you do between when you wake up, make videos, go to bed, etc. It'd be an interesting mini video. You could even make it a skit if you want to.
I really liked how you used 3D models of Pokemon for each ability, also this was very informative there's a lot of abilities I didn't know about, can't wait for the next one
Uh, if you're having a bad day, here's something to cheer you up. I've been watching your videos for four years now and you've managed to keep me interested for every single one (you're honestly the only youtuber i've watched then and still do to this day). I've left a like on every single video i've ever watched of yours. And I will remember you cheering me up and getting me through some of my toughest days because of your videos, for the rest of my life probably. So thanks for everything bro, hope ya feel better :)
Maybe “Clear body” doesn’t mean the body is clear but maybe stat lowering has some kind of “energy” witch can go right through “Clear bodies”, not clear like glass, but clear of their effects.
Nuclear PZN i agree with you. It's certainly ok to point that out as constructive criticism, as that can be useful for everyone. I just meant to say so that the other people don't get it blown out of proportion, since a lot of other people overreact sometimes. I just figured if i say so it might get some others to think first so they don't do that as much. I appreciate your understanding
Thank you michael, you helped me improve my competitive skills. Sadly, I know all of those abilities but I look forward to watching the other parts of your abilities explained videos
This is a great new series, and it'll keep you occupied for a while with all of those abilities 😋 Is there any chance you could do a Pokemon Natures explained video at some point? Maybe more to do with which Natures are better for certain Pokemon/Battle styles etc? I've never been much of a competitive battler so I'm still learning, and I'm sure a lot of others are too. And your videos are always so helpful! Hope you're feeling more cheerful, Mikey! Your fans are here for you ☺
I think clear body stops stats from being lowered because if it’s see through you can see every aspect of the Pokemon in its entirety, nothing’s hidden. You can see that nothings physically changed with your Pokemon after it’s been intimidated so the stat drop doesn’t apply
I love the creativity behind the video. Insightful and entertaining. Thank you. Just thought on Clear Body: One definition for clear is "free of something undesirable or unpleasant". So, the Pokémon's body is free of undesirable/unpleasant stat changes. Just a thought, though. Looking forward to the videos that follow.
I love the content of the video, it's very interesting to hear your perspective on what the meaning behind some of the more obtuse abilities. My only friendly criticism I would have for you is slightly more editing. For example, when talking about compound eyes show us what one looks like on an actual bug.
Another fantastic video Michael! Very creative and unique idea, very useful! Sorry to hear it's been a rough day for you, hopefully you're okay! Can't wait to see the next ones!
Here's some, if you'd like: Magnet Pull - The Pokemon uses its magnets to pull in and trap Steel types. Cute Charm - The Pokemon acts cute when hit, and may charm opponents that make contact if they're of the opposite gender. Poison Point - Obviously, the Pokemon has barbs, thorns, etc. that may deliver poison upon careless contact. Truant - Shirks duties and loafs around every other turn Slow Start - Regigigas is slow to get it going and needs 5 turns to get its act together whenever sent out. Rock Head - Its head is as hard as rock, so it's well protected from the recoil damage of moves such as Take Down. Pure Power - Its Attack is doubled through the power of yoga. (the ability's Japanese name is Yoga Power) Lightning Rod - Uses a horn, tail, etc. as a lightning rod to draw in Electric moves, raising Special Attack instead of taking damage.
Full metal body: referring back to your idea of stat reduction involving light, many different steels and metals reflect light once it hits them, so that would explain why the Pokémon isn’t affected: it’s reflecting the stat reductions in multiple different directions.
For clear body, the light explanation you gave actually does makes sense, and the Pokémon with clear body may not be see through, but their outer surface is shiny or clear and may reflect the stat lowering energy/light.
I feel like shield dust is based on how moths are covered in loose scales and hairs. If you ever try and catch a moth you see you are covered in dust. This dust is a natural defence against things like spider webs, as when the sticky web tries to restrain and capture the moth, the dust, or shield dust is the only thing the web catches and the moth gets away. Just my opinion though
Also to help with #29 Clear Body: The Pokemon's Stat are physically the "stuff" that make up a Pokemon. For example: If a Pokemon has a high health stat, they are bulky or thick b/c there is a lot more to them than normally. If an opposing Pokemon tries lowering a stat move, they are chipping away at the physical Pokemon to bring it back down to size. A speed reduction lowering the movement like getting caught in a Sticky Web, a defense drop is like breaking parts of a shield, etc. With Clear Body however, since the physical form of the Pokemon is transparent, there is nothing to chip away so no stat reductions
Love the new series Micheal,Hopefully you upload teh next part soon! Also the abillity Clear body seems to me to relate to a sort of shield rather than a literal clear body such as a veil that forms a second skin for the pokemon so all tries of lowering the pokes stat fail due to the attacks being directed to the veil rather than the pokemon itself.....
About the Clear Body situation, in Spanish (which is my native language), the ability is called “Cuerpo Puro” which translates to “_pure_ body”. This might mean that it’s body is so pure, that it’s completely unaffected by debuffs that make it ‘less pure’, in this case, stat drops.
I'd like it if you'd make a Top 10 list of two things. 1. Your favorite abilities. 2. Underrated abilities. Also, just saw your 50 New Moves video, think you could make an Ability version of it? My guess is that your first batch is going to be Overgrow for every type.
You don't necessarily need to spend 30 seconds on each ability: some abilities are similar to each other, but are relevant to a different type. Example: You can explain that "Chlorophyll, Swift Swim, Sand Rush, and Slush Rush double the Pokemon's Speed in sunshine, rain, sandstorms, or hail, respectively," in about 7 seconds.
First of all, great video. I'm looking forward to more! I do have a probable explanation for Clear Body other than what you gave. Having a clear body can also mean having a clear mind, and since stat drops are more of a mind set, having a clear mind would essentially shrug off any stat drops.

Hope you dont get tired finishing this video arc..
Since it will be long and many
Great work
Great setup, great explanation of the English names of these abilities, & I'm always down for a good vocab lesson.
Michael:number 3, speed boost
Me: *vietnam flashbacks to Dark Deception*
About the Clear Body situation, in Spanish (which is my native language), the ability is called “Cuerpo Puro” which translates to “_pure_ body”. This might mean that it’s body is so pure, that it’s completely unaffected by debuffs that make it ‘less pure’, in this case, stat drops.
I'd like it if you'd make a Top 10 list of two things.
1. Your favorite abilities.
2. Underrated abilities.
Also, just saw your 50 New Moves video, think you could make an Ability version of it?
My guess is that your first batch is going to be Overgrow for every type.
I love these types of videos! Can't wait for the other parts : D
KingsleyIII That’s just explaining what the effects are.
First of all, great video. I'm looking forward to more! I do have a probable explanation for Clear Body other than what you gave. Having a clear body can also mean having a clear mind, and since stat drops are more of a mind set, having a clear mind would essentially shrug off any stat drops.
