@@tabbender1232 i guess, i mean the only abilities that block it are Clear Body, White Smoke, Full Metal Body, Hyper Cutter, Scrappy, Own Tempo, Inner Focus, Oblivious, Defiant (kinda), Competitive (kinda) and Mirror Armor
Rivalry was used on haxorous in gen 5 vgc tournaments to counter to the always male thunderous, tornadous, and landorous. Doesn’t make it good but it shows even bad abilities can be useful.
Also it could be useful in online simulators if your opponents don't look at the gender of their Pokemons. Haxorus is probably the only actual threatening Pokemon with the ability given its monstrous Attack.
I thought of some ways to make worthless/bad abilities useful: Illuminate: increases accuracy of the user's moves. Run Away: the Pokémon can always switch out. Damp: not only nullifies the power of explosions, but some other moves like Burn Up, Inferno, Flare Blitz, and Will-o-Wisp; moves that involve ignition. Honey Gather: I got nothin'💀 Early Bird: can also get out of Taunt, Torment, etc. earlier. *Updated ideas!:* Heavy Metal: Raises defense by 10% in exchange for Speed being reduced by 20%. Light Metal: Same as Heavy Metal, but vice versa. Speed+20%, Defense-10%. Rattled: also raises Speed if the opponent uses Scary Face or something of the like. (Idk, it *still* needs more going for it.) Unnerve: also prevents Leftovers from being consumed. (We need a stall counter.) Cloud Nine: also makes the user immune to Intimidate (because "Cloud Nine" means "feeling better than ever", and a lot of Cloud Nine Pokémon just aren't good anyways.) Feel free to share your ideas, too!
I got a weird one for Honey Gather. -Draws in all bug type moves and halves the damage taken. It kinda functions like an extremely specific version of Rage Powder. Still far from the best, but it’s a use that makes sense in context.
Honestly, poor Regigigas. Lore-wise it *_deserves_* to be a major legendary and thus have high stats and be on the official banlist as well as the Ubers tier. Clear Body would be a greatly fitting ability as well.
Actually, someone took the mantle of Regigigas, for being the Pokemon having Slow Start. I won't tell the Pokemon, it was on SV. Go ahead and find it out to yourselves
I've thought an interesting revamp to Slow Start would be to have the stats gradually build until the 5 turns are up. Like it starts with the 50% reduction but at the end of the first turn it's out it it becomes 40%, then 30% and so on until it hits full stride
It could also work like Comatose for those three turns making Regigagas temporary immune to status since he's still asleep making Slow Start not a completely worthless ability
That won't change Regigigas being worthless. I think instead make it into 5 stages (each with a message like "Regigigas is finding it's footing", "Regigigas is recalibrating", "Regigigas is adjusting to it's surroundings", etc), that don't disappear after switching out, and add that after acquiring all 5 you get something like "Regigigas is ready to unleash it's full power" and all of Regigigas' stats get doubled. Essentially make it so you build your team around helping Regigigas get to it's full strength, after which it's pretty much unstoppable, like a preudo alternative win condition. As for balance, who cares at this point? Regigigas should get a free pass anyway, since it's a legendary.
I will for the life of me never understand why Gamefreak hates Regigigas. They keep doing things that basically seem like they want you to know that they hate this thing. I just wanna know who's cereal the golem leader stepped in at Gamefreak to make them have such a vendetta. It can't be do to balancing because this is the same series with Xerneas and Zacian. It just makes me sad since this is Normal's 1 *pure* legend considering if you're using god or god jr., they're gonna be a different type.
Here's an idea : Slow start : Halves Regigigs' attack + speed for 2 turns, then TRIPLES attack, Sp. Attack, Defense and Sp. Defence for the rest of the battle. This includes when it is switched out, retaining the buffs. While in the "Slow" phase, and only in the Slow Gigas, gains double accuracy, due to having more time to aim. However, 2 turn moves take 3 turns to come out as a drawback. If there is another Regi on the field, Gigas gives all their stats a reduction of 1 stage, and in turn only is slow for 1 turn, as if it were drawing power from it's underlings to power itself. These reductions are cancelled once the other Regi swaps out. If an enemy boosts their evasion, Regigigas boosts it's accuracy. This thing was able to pull continents, so it should in theory be able to adapt to an enemy. Due to being a robot-ish thing, Gigas will also be immune to status conditions. If this all sounds a bit OP, that's because it's supposed to be. Regigigas is one of the most powerful legendaries out there. Also, "Regi" means "Ķing", so it's name translates to Giga King. It should be able to lord over other Pokémon as if they are it's subjects.
And for some reason they had to kill my boy even more by giving him the same ability in Legends Arceus. A game WITHOUT ABILITIES!!! WTF GAMEFREAK???!!!???
Counterpoint for Rivalry - it pairs nicely with Attract. Either you get an attack buff or you can use Attract, a move that would be extremely strong if not for the gender restriction.
Truant durant has a niche usage as an entrainment user. You can give an opponent truant with it. It's actually the first step of making an invincible pokemon. Step 2 would be using shedinja to use mimic on durant to mimic entrainment. Step 3 is swapping durant for an arcanine with burn up. Step 4 have shedinja use entrainment onto arcanine to give it wonder guard. Step 4 is have arcanine use burn up making it typless and completely immune all types. Give it leftovers to deal with passive chip damage. Very hard to pull off but very fun if you do it.
@@lilylopnco or ko shedinja turn 1. Or use toxic. It's not a flawless strategy by any means. Lots of counters. It's just a fun one to pull off if it does work.
@@lilylopnco also we still have a durant with entrainment that shedinja can switch into, since after giving arcanine wonder guard it's basically useless.
If there's 5 abilties I had to choose to get buffed, I would easily go for: 1) Anticipation - Makes it so when it senses a dangerous move that is likely to OHKO it, it has a chance of evading that move 2) Light Metal - Makes it so it doesn't take any damage from hazards plus giving priority to all Steel type moves at full health 3) Heavy Metal - Makes it so it destroys all hazards upon entering the field plus gains the Sturdy ability 4) Magma Armor - Halves the damage taken from Water and Ice Type moves 5) Klutz - Make it a Normal Type Mummy with the same effect of items having no effect
Lol some of these things sound downright broken, especially heavy metal. Because essentially, you want to give a pokemon sturdy with an unblockable hazard removal on a stick. Just to visualize the issue here: This would be similar to giving a pokemon an arguably good ability (sturdy) and then just slapping an utility move effect on top of it, e.g. swords dance, protect, taunt...
What about along with the above, buffing some abilities like Illuminate to raise holder's evasiveness or foe's accuracy and/or Truant in such a way that works in as a built in Protect/Detect on the 2nd in a row turns the holder can't make a move (assuming it won't end up too broken)? Maybe something like special equivalents of Guts & Marvel Scale along with Special Attack equivalent of Intimidate can be brought on for good measure. Also, I wouldn't be too surprised if Magma Armor was to end up protecting from Frostbite as of recent times (which would be much more useful than just against Freeze)
Super situational abilities like leaf guard are also pretty bad. It has a use, but relies on having a sun team which pretty rare on its own, but you can only take advantage of it if someone just happens to try to burn you while the suns out. It has to be some of the weaker weather relied abilities due to just how specific the situation is.
Except it is with all the status effects, but yeah, pretty underwhelming ability, more so knowing that only grass types have it, and they become more vulnerable to fire type attacks while on the sun, so if you aren't hitting faster or harder under it, why use a grass type on that climate to begin with?
yeah, and really if a pokemon has Leaf Guard....they probably have Chlorophyll too which is significantly better, but if a grass type doesn't have Chlorophyll but has Leaf Guard....then i would not bother
...............................Considering how slow it is, yes it still was useless on Stunfisk, as paralysis is (or rather WAS) the least detrimental status effect it could have, and it would effectively become immune to status after becoming paralyzed. Paralysis is really only a good status ailment to inflict on something if it's fast, and Stunfisk is decidedly one of the slower Pokemon you can use, only having a base speed of 32
There are some abilities I think are just too common. Like they just slap ‘em wherever they fit and don’t consider other options. Oh? This ‘mon is a water type? Give it Swift Swim. A grass type? You know it needs Chlorophyll. If Gamefreak fed ice types low-fat pokeblocks more I KNOW Slush Rush would be just as common.
@@switchblade6 and sadly Aerodactyl is stuck having to use Pressure since Rock Head and Unnerve don't help it at all (seriously Rock Head is wasted on it since this pterodactyl can't learn brave bird or head smash)
@@bulborb8756 and it lost the better ability i believe tough claws from it mega form toughclaws should just replace rockhead or pressure as abase ability
Surprised you didn't say Delcatty's normalize. But I guess it could be useful to paralyze electric types, & it definately needs the added STAB for power, but still.
Actually normalize has some nasty gimmick uses you can do. Like using skill swap to put normalize on your opponents pokemon making it either do little damage or outright unplayable because you can swap into a ghost type and there moves won't do any damage. It's also good like you said for stab double slap, furry swipes and fake out. Is it a good ability? No. Is it a bad ability? Debatable.
Normalize isn't really a terrible ability unless you're facing Ghost, Rock, and Steel types. The main problem is that it's tied to one of the worst fully evolved pokemon in the game. On the right Normal type pokemon, it could potentially be a great ability.
Rivalry actually has a good history in Competitive. Back in Gen 5 VGC Haxorus used to run Rivalry due to the overabundance of the Genies, making a good few appearances at Worlds. But yeah, other than that, it ain't that great.
The worst part because his ability is supposed to stop paralysis in gen 5 when electric types used to paralyzed themselves but gen 6 made the electric types immune to paralysis now it made stunfisk Limber ability useless 💀
@@wackywakko6694 it was basically useless to begin with, as he would've only been able to be paralyzed via Body Slam, Glare, Stun Spore, or Tri attack.
@@wackywakko6694 What's baffling is why they didn't IDK, actually change the ability. They took Levitate away from Gengar and gave it Cursed Body. So why not that? I mean, it could, theoretically be useful if it becomes a type other than Electric.
Some buffs I think could be fun: Limber: Immune to Speed debuff, really emphasizing reliable Speed. Overgrow, Blaze, Torrent, Swarm: If HP is yellow (50% or lower), attacks with that respective type are Critical Hits (it's mostly the same ability and Damage, but wider range and helps break through Defense buffs and ignore Attack debuffs from intimidate) Tangled Feet: Allows immunity to entry hazards, representing tip-toeing around spikes Slow Start: For first three Turns, Attack stats and Speed are halved while Defense stats are doubled. After three Turns, all of Slow Start ends. Big Pecks: If you take a debuff from an opponent, your next Flying type move is a Critical Hit.
The Plus abilities has its uses, but very situational. In the Max Raid Dens in the Sword/Shield Crown Tundra DLC, I've had several occasions where I've ended up using a Dedenne that has its hidden ability - Plus, but also has the move Entrainment that allows you to make your targets special ability the same as yours. As long as you are aware of the moveset of the target mon, I've used this against other trainers in the team to give both of us a power boost :)
but in the end, Plus and Minus are always garbage abilities as they are only useful in doubles, and their just never worth running at all as both abilities suck
Entrainment Truant Durant is actually a pretty good strategy when pulled off well. Durant also isn't actually that bad of a pokemon in general, but obviously if you really wanna use it to its fullest potential, you gotta give it something other than Truant lol.
Stall actually gained the _slightest_ niche in Gen 9, when Sableye *finally* got access to Skill Swap, thereby allowing it to give this detrimental ability to the opponent. It still sucks, but at least there's a theoretical use for it.
The only reason you WOULD use lopunny is to trick a flame orb, choice scarf, assault vest, lagging tail, or something like that with klutz. I’ve also seen that strategy with golurk rarely. It’s not terrible. Also cute charm isn’t banned lol. Oblivious is actually decent, it’s good for pokemon like mamoswine with stealth rocks so that you can’t be taunted and in gen 8 it blocks intimidate.
Plus and Minus should be changed to get a 30% Boost under Electric Terrain, that’d be very cool. Magma Armor could be like Flame Body, but also decrease Fire/Water/Ice dmg, like a lesser fusion of Thick Fat and Flame Body. Slow Start should have the effect decreased to 30% and last only 3 Turns, and not have its timer reset after switching out when the ability debuff ends.
Regigigas would probably be way worse with a good ability Gigas rn is NOT a restricted meaning it can be used in a tier with the second highest BST is 600 (lando), where it's BST is 670. It can very well compete with these 500-600 BST mons when used alongside weezing. It even won tournaments and i've done very well with it on the ladder if it had an ability like say "clear body", it would then be classified as a restricted...AND THERE IS NO WAY gigas is ever going to be used when you can instead use the likes of kyogre, groudon, yveltal, zaican, etc.
Francesco Pardini a Vgc national champion got 7th at worlds by using Rivalry male Haxorus in 2011. The point is the genies (tornadus, thundurus and landorus) are all locked to be male, the extra 25% damage guarantees ohko with a item boosted rock slide/dragon claw, something that had abused to great effect
Pickpocket and Magician are actually different: Pickpocket steals the opponent's item when the opponent hits the Pokémon with the Ability, while Magician steals the target's item when the user hits it.
In regards to Illuminate, as of version 1.3.2 of Scarlet and Violet, the ability's description implies that it will have the same in battle effect as Keen Eye. (Though, at present there are no pokemon in SV that have Illuminate as an ability, though they will likely be added in via the DLC)
4:43 I actually used lopunny in BDSP and even though I know it’s not the best in stats I just really like it. My Chinese zodiac is the year of the rabbit and because of that I tend to love most rabbit/rabbit based characters, of course I do have some exceptions.
I did use a Lopunny in my BDSP team too. Though it's because I had a partially Flint inspired team (If I remember correctly it was Infernape, Driftblim, Lopunny, Floatzel, Magnezone and Cleffable)
I really long Gamefreak to give Us a Special version of the 'Huge Power' Ability. It would instantly make logical fits (well, my takes sorry lol) such as say; Tropius, Wigglytuff, Dunsparce and maybe Delibird actually viable to use in battle and just be better generally.
Some Ability buffs I came up with for drawback abilities: -Slow Start: Lasts 3 turns. -Truant: Ignores Protect, attacks have double power. -Defeatist: While HP is above half of max, Attack and Sp. Atk are increased by 50% each. -Stall: Can’t miss. Some Pokémon that I’d give different abilities: -Stunfisk: Swaps out Limber for Sap Sipper. -Shiftry: Gets Wind Rider instead of Pickpocket. -Weavile: Gets Slush Rush and Tough Claws for abilities.
I used a Regigigas during a triple battle tournament Christmas event during the ORAS games. During this event, Pokemon restricted the selection of Pokemon to those that were red, green, white (Christmas colors) and Regigigas was one of the few legendary Pokemon that could be used. In triple battles, moves that hit multiple Pokemon such as surf or earthquake were common and it turns out Regigigas was one of the few Pokemon who could learn wide guard. With the restricted available Pokemon and the pace of Triple battles, slow start didn't even matter much; Regigigas was a great Pokemon for this particular event due to his bulk, typing, and movepool.
Limber Liepard is never seen for whatever reason. That thing is faster than a jet plane so why bother with an ability that makes it unable to target dark types with status moves when you can have a sweet immunity to not being slow?
It's funny because illuminate in my opinion could be an amazing ability. I would make it a free follow me. I know it wouldn't see much use But it would make interesting plays in double battles allowing you to instantly use follow me instead of having to waste a turn. Also they should buff limber by making it so that it can never get its speeds that dropped
Also they should change big pecks to whenever a stat is dropped increases attack stat at by the same amount of stages. I know this would make close combat an amazing move but let's be honest bird Pokemon never live past the second turn.
Steadfast can have a niche use tho. If you predict/bait the fake out you can hard switch to the steadfast user and get a nice little buff for nearly free.
If it weren’t for requiring the near-impossibility of the pun working in multiple languages, I’d think they only gave Durant the Truant ability because it’s a true ant.
2:46 When I first started playing PokeMMO 6 months ago I bought 10 Ice Heals in case I got frozen during the main storylines (thats 4 entire pokemon games). When my original account got on the bad side of some of the moderators, I transferred all my items to a new account and replayed all 4 regions again on the new account. I am still working on the same stack of 10 Ice Heals lmao
My old strategy with Lopunny in gen 6 was to make it have Klutz as her ability, while also having a mega stone since Klutz doesn't stop you from mega evolving. Then I would also have her use the move Entrainment to make the opponent have Klutz override their previous ability. I thought I was on to something back in the day with this, since it would then prevent opponents from using their items and be a forced switch if they really need their item.
How to buff: Forewarn: Reveals one random move. The move that is revealed always fails on the Pokémon who has this ability. Anticipation: OHKO and super-effective moves have their accuracy reduced by 30% on a Pokémon with this ability Heavy Metal: doubles defense, halves speed Light Metal: doubles speed, halved defense Magician/Pickpocket: even if you're already holding an item, it puts the enemy's item out of commission Unnerve: Permanent Heal Block to any Pokémon except other Pokémon with Unnerve Slow Start: doubles defense and special defense while halving attack and speed Plus/Minus: gives you a Sp. Atk boost for every Electric-type Pokémon or Pokémon with plus/minus on the field Early Bird: forces all status ailments to last only one turn Illuminate: like Intimidate but with accuracy
A VGC player once found a really decent niche for Rivalry. The legendary genies are gender locked to be male so he used a Rivalry Nidoqueen or something like that to counter them.
"worse than levitate on Rotom fan" that's kind of true now because of terestilisation replacing your types so if you terrastlise Rotom fan into a pure electric type it can make use of levitate and keep it's ground immunity. Would a flying type with levitate be quad immune to ground? how would that work?
Regarding Oblivious, it also gives immunity to Taunt, so it actually comes in handy for a trick room setter such as one the slowpoke line, as Taunt is one of the main counters to trick room. An oblivious slowbro paired with a Psychic Surge Indeedee-F is guaranteed to land its TR, as the psychic terrain will also prevent Fake Out. Even without Follow Me, the chances?of ohko are very slim as slowbro/king are very bulky.
Truant Durant can learn entrainment, which can make the opponent have truant and can be pretty useful when paired with a arena trap dugtrio with hone claws and protect
The reason why many bird Pokémon have Big Pecks because it's both a pun and a reference to the fact that many birds have large pectoral muscles which they use to power their wings.
Durant is a legitimate powerhouse, what are you talking about? Seriously. It has monster attack and speed, with only a single weakness, and good coverage
I used Early Bird in combination with rest because some pokemon didn't have access to moves like roost or recover. Oblivious is actually really useful since you won't be affected by taunt.
Klutz could work if it made you unable to hold items but also increased your evasion due to unpredictable falling over etc. Limber should make you impossible to be trapped in. Magma armour can reduce ice and rock moves, but increase water move damage. Rivalry should boost attacks vs same gender and have a chance to attract opposite gender. Defeatist could lower attack/special attack and increase speed at 50% hp.
I thought about a change to Truant a while ago that just makes you unable to use an attacking move 2 times in a row. Basically you are allowed to use status moves like slackoff, protect or sword dance between the attack turns or even 2 status moves back to back and an attack after that, since you aren´t forced to attack every 2nd turn.
Always felt bad for sableye since its one of the only ghost types I can think of that suffers from early route pokemon syndrome as much as it does Pretty sure you're able to get it in gen 3 around the 2 or 3 gym
They did it dirty in ORAS since you need to have one of the bikes (I think the Mach) to get to the lower levels of Granite Cave to get it. And by the time you get the bike, why would you even want to go back there?
Uhg I feel that, let me tell you. Whenever I was in ko range and I was using Glisopod, I would hit below 50% and get switch out even when glisopod was my best or only solution
Multitype is also very bad. Arceus has to sacrifice an item slot and an ability slot to get the other types. And if it doesn't use a plate, the ability will do nothing. Why does this even need an ability in the first place? Deoxys doesn't need an ability to change forms so why does God?
at least Arceus has............well god-like stats (120 across the board) and a god-like movepool (and it only got even better this gen), which is much much more than i can say about Silvally which has RKS System, and it is just basically the same Multitype but on a pokemon with lesser stats (95 across the board) and a way worse movepool.
Ide argue Emergency exit is actually a pretty useful ability. it can be seen as either a teleport or a heavy damaging (potentially non bug) u-turn thats delayed till the end of your turn (this is assuming golisopod is faster then its opponent). How are these useful? The pokemon you are sending in wont be taking any hits from the enemy that turn aside from entry hazards. Pretty stellar start for a sweeper if you ask me.
For Defeatist and Slow Start; these could be fixed. For Defeatist, we switch it around; when above 50% HP, you get a bonus to Attack and Special Attack. We nerf Archeops's stats, and maybe not double the stats but give a +50% bonus, so we can at least give Archeops a bit higher stats effectively under 50%. Seems like it mostly means the same thing, but due to the way our brains work, we see it differently. Instead of a nerfing something strong, we buff something weak. For Slow Start, that ability just needs a complete revision. First of all, 5 turns is indeed just way too much. One option is to incrementally fix the stats, like -40% after the first turn, -30% the next, etc. Secondly, Slow Start being reset when switching means it is just not usable, so maybe that can also be taken out. An alternative idea is to do the same as for Defeatist idea; turn it into a buff. Rather than saying a player needs to survive 5 turns for a decent Pokémon, why not give them a decent Pokémon, and reward them for sticking with it for 5 turns, where its attack stat will double. Then again, that sounds like Swords Dance with extra steps.
Girafarig in little cup with early bird+rest is decent since it’s bulky purely based on how it has more stats than everything else in the tier. Typically u see sap sipper tho since toedscool is everywhere Tinkatink also makes great use of pickpocket in little cup since oran berry is a really good item and it lets u steal eviolite from pawniard. U used to also be able to steal choice scarf from rufflet and then hit it with a thunder wave, but they banned rufflet
I got mad because I was doing a professor oak for oras and didn't know that bunery had klutz until it leveled up five times after two grooms with the sooth bell, and it didn't even hit hard with return.
I massively disagree the part with Oblivious that ability got buffed in Gen 8 it blocks intimidate now so no its not one of the worst abilities anymore
Pickpocket/Magician is useful when your held item is a berry/seed/herb. Plus with Knock Off as common as it is. It's not a great ability, but I think it doesn't deserve to be here.
I generally consider Slow Start to be far worse than Truant, just because of how pointlessly undeserving Regigigas was of getting it. As mentioned in the video, Slaking is at least balanced with Truant, seeing as it's a non-legendary Pokemon with insane stats (arguably over-balanced, but still), and even Durant can at least utilize an Entrainment strategy with it. But Regigigas? Not only is it a legendary that's expected to have insane stats (and as mentioned, far from being the most broken legendary even if it didn't have Slow Start), but it's also one of the hardest legendaries to get. Oh yeah, the main storyline will just hand you Dialga, Palkia, or even MegaRay on a silver platter. But Regigigas? Good luck jumping through hoops, solving obscure puzzles, utilizing cross-gen transfers, and/or trading with completed save files, almost always exclusively in post-game, and all for a Pokemon that can barely do anything for 5 turns, with a counter that resets any time it switches, AND it's one of the only Pokemon that can never learn Protect or Rest just to make it even more unbearable. Why did they feel the need to go this far in "balancing" a Pokemon that was never in need of it? The only saving grace is that the ability can at least be removed through Skill Swap and Worry Seed and the like, which makes Regigigas significantly more usable in doubles. But outside of the intentionally crippling abilities, I'd consider Honey Gather to be the worst overall. Even when it comes to utility abilities that can only be used in the single-player campaign, it's pretty terrible when its only worth is the Honey item, of all things. Even in DPPt and its remakes, where Honey had the most usage due to the tree-slathering mechanic (and even then, hardly the best game-exclusive gimmick out there, essentially being a more tedious Headbutt), you can just BUY Honey on the cheap before you even beat the 2nd gym. Maybe if Honey Gather had a chance of a rare drop (a high-selling royal jelly item, perhaps?), it'd be way more useful, but as it is, it's quite awful. A somewhat interesting way of referencing a real life animal trait, sure, but even then, why not just bring back innate traits like Shuckle being able to make Berry Juice in gen2?
actually Delibird's hidden ability is Insomnia, it's 2 normal abilities are Vital Spirit and Hustle...this gimmicky weak as hell bird has 2 abilities that do the exact same thing
They probably put Truant on Durant because two purposes: First: It's a pun Second: I was during the time of Gen 6 when it was discovered that 30 percent of any group of Ants, no matter how many there are just slack off.
Truant is always on No.1 worst abilities... but i find it very useful in PVE battle..... Using Durant Truant and move Entrainment (giving enemy Truant ability) is very useful for setup like Gyarados Cloyster etc.... Protect Shell smash Protect Shell Smash Protect Shell smash.... its bad ability but its not useless for me..... its one of the most useful Ability to me...

We really do think alike.
@@naturalharmoniagropius4486 no []ucking way
@@naturalharmoniagropius4486 Everyone hating the fact GameFreak made Slow Start a thing just to then put it on ANOTHER Pokemon is crazy
Who is it? I dont have a switch or the game
@@kyubeycoobie3568 If anyone wants to tell him, please put a big *[SPOILER]* warning and a few line breaks.
I've thought an interesting revamp to Slow Start would be to have the stats gradually build until the 5 turns are up.
Like it starts with the 50% reduction but at the end of the first turn it's out it it becomes 40%, then 30% and so on until it hits full stride
pretty neat idea!
It could also work like Comatose for those three turns making Regigagas temporary immune to status since he's still asleep making Slow Start not a completely worthless ability
ah! so, *actually* **Slow** Start rather than Delayed Start: the ability's secret true name.
Funny enough, the car pokemon has slow start
Even in the beta sprites they made Gigas look like an absolute tool when put next to stuff like beta Rampardos, Yanmega, and Garchomp.
"if you're using god or god jr., they're gonna be a different type."
*(laughs in Extreme Killer Arceus)*
Here's an idea :
Slow start :
Halves Regigigs' attack + speed for 2 turns, then TRIPLES attack, Sp.
The worst part is until Gen 8, Regigigas was the only Pokémon that can use TMs that can't learn Protect or Rest.
The reason Durant has Truant is because of the idea that it is a True-ant, as if it really is an ant.

Okay but Oblivious shouldn’t be on this list - in gen 8, it was buffed again to block Intimidate, which actually gets some real use in VGC
If there's 5 abilties I had to choose to get buffed, I would easily go for:
1) Anticipation - Makes it so when it senses a dangerous move that is likely to OHKO it, it has a chance of evading that move
2) Light Metal - Makes it so it doesn't take any damage from hazards plus giving priority to all Steel type moves at full health
3) Heavy Metal - Makes it so it destroys all hazards upon entering the field plus gains the Sturdy ability
4) Magma Armor - Halves the damage taken from Water and Ice Type moves
5) Klutz - Make it a Normal Type Mummy with the same effect of items having no effect
Dude these are busted wtf no
Dude these are overly busted. I'm kinda ok with klutz, but the rest of these are WAY too much
I think if anything magma armor should DOUBLE water moves' power.
I mean Limber wasn’t useless for Stunfisk when it was introduced was the electric type paralysis immunity wasn’t added until the next generation.
...............................Considering how slow it is, yes it still was useless on Stunfisk, as paralysis is (or rather WAS) the least detrimental status effect it could have, and it would effectively become immune to status after becoming paralyzed. Paralysis is really only a good status ailment to inflict on something if it's fast, and Stunfisk is decidedly one of the slower Pokemon you can use, only having a base speed of 32
Oblivious got a buff in Gen VIII that it blocks Intimidate. Sadly all of the Pokemon that get it (except Mamoswine) aren’t physical attackers…

Debatable.
@@kurtisvandermiller4507 there are a lot of ways to prevent this from happening
Normalize isn't really a terrible ability unless you're facing Ghost, Rock, and Steel types. The main problem is that it's tied to one of the worst fully evolved pokemon in the game. On the right Normal type pokemon, it could potentially be a great ability.

Some buffs I think could be fun:
Limber: Immune to Speed debuff, really emphasizing reliable Speed.
Overgrow, Blaze, Torrent, Swarm: If HP is yellow (50% or lower), attacks with that respective type are Critical Hits (it's mostly the same ability and Damage, but wider range and helps break through Defense buffs and ignore Attack debuffs from intimidate)
Tangled Feet: Allows immunity to entry hazards, representing tip-toeing around spikes
Slow Start: For first three Turns, Attack stats and Speed are halved while Defense stats are doubled. After three Turns, all of Slow Start ends.
Big Pecks: If you take a debuff from an opponent, your next Flying type move is a Critical Hit.
Blaze and Torrent are pretty devastatingly powerful when combined with Sun and Rain respectively.
It's pretty deadly with Hustle and Hone Claws.
Stall actually gained the _slightest_ niche in Gen 9, when Sableye *finally* got access to Skill Swap, thereby allowing it to give this detrimental ability to the opponent.
It still sucks, but at least there's a theoretical use for it.
Looks like JPR forgot that Oblivious got buffed in Gen 8 so it blocks Intimidate.
Plus and minus would still be very useless in that situation. Who’s gonna want to set up terrain to boost mons like plusle, minun and the Kling family.
Regigigas would probably be way worse with a good ability
Gigas rn is NOT a restricted meaning it can be used in a tier with the second highest BST is 600 (lando), where it's BST is 670. It can very well compete with these 500-600 BST mons when used alongside weezing. It even won tournaments and i've done very well with it on the ladder
if it had an ability like say "clear body", it would then be classified as a restricted...AND THERE IS NO WAY gigas is ever going to be used when you can instead use the likes of kyogre, groudon, yveltal, zaican, etc.

Pickpocket and Magician are actually different: Pickpocket steals the opponent's item when the opponent hits the Pokémon with the Ability, while Magician steals the target's item when the user hits it.
you know, Regigigas's slow start would be nice if it was 3 turn 30% debuff and gradually increase by 10% each time for another 3 turn

Some Ability buffs I came up with for drawback abilities:
-Slow Start: Lasts 3 turns.
-Truant: Ignores Protect, attacks have double power.
-Defeatist: While HP is above half of max, Attack and Sp. Atk are increased by 50% each.
-Stall: Can’t miss.
Some Pokémon that I’d give different abilities:
-Stunfisk: Swaps out Limber for Sap Sipper.
Heavy Metal should have been a stronger version of the Punk Rock ability
Slow start is such a bummer. I like his concept and design, but they just decided he wasn't allowed to be usable. Ever.
How to buff:
Forewarn: Reveals one random move. The move that is revealed always fails on the Pokémon who has this ability.
Anticipation: OHKO and super-effective moves have their accuracy reduced by 30% on a Pokémon with this ability
Heavy Metal: doubles defense, halves speed
Light Metal: doubles speed, halved defense
Magician/Pickpocket: even if you're already holding an item, it puts the enemy's item out of commission
Unnerve: Permanent Heal Block to any Pokémon except other Pokémon with Unnerve
Slow Start: doubles defense and special defense while halving attack and speed
Plus/Minus: gives you a Sp. Atk boost for every Electric-type Pokémon or Pokémon with plus/minus on the field
Early Bird: forces all status ailments to last only one turn
Illuminate: like Intimidate but with accuracy
Lmao the fact the Revaroom has slow start as a hidden ability, and that was revealed the NEXT DAY has to have been hilarious for JPR.
A VGC player once found a really decent niche for Rivalry. The legendary genies are gender locked to be male so he used a Rivalry Nidoqueen or something like that to counter them.
I don't think oblivious is that bad since it makes you immune to intimidate since gen 8 making it good on like mamoswine
"worse than levitate on Rotom fan" that's kind of true now because of terestilisation replacing your types so if you terrastlise Rotom fan into a pure electric type it can make use of levitate and keep it's ground immunity. Would a flying type with levitate be quad immune to ground? how would that work?
multiply a number by 0 twice. what happens to it?
I think Durant got Truant as a literal pun. Because it’s a TruANT
Six hours before the malls open where I live. One more JPR vid before GEN 9!
Pickpocket+Jaboca Berry is actually useful in Metronome-only battles fwiw
I used Early Bird in combination with rest because some pokemon didn't have access to moves like roost or recover.
Oblivious is actually really useful since you won't be affected by taunt.
Remember when Rivalry actually was controllable and people used it in Gen 5 vgc against the Weather trio because they would be male 100% of the time?
Something hilarious about how bad Slow Start is is that even in Legends Arceus, which does not have abilities, Regigigas still has it.
Klutz + Assault Vest + Switcheroo is one of the best troll strats of all time and YOU WILL respect it.
Klutz basically turns your Mon into a Gen 1 mon
Always felt bad for sableye since its one of the only ghost types I can think of that suffers from early route pokemon syndrome as much as it does
Pretty sure you're able to get it in gen 3 around the 2 or 3 gym

I think they gave Durant the ability Truant because it is a pun on True Ant.
Oblivious is actually somewhat useful for Tera Raids. It lets you still use stat boosting moves even if the raid Pokémon knows taunt.
Archeops, Regi, and Slacking deserve better. at this point: their stats aren't even super broken anymore. so many 'mons have surpassed them.

Smogon: *Puts Air Balloon on Rotom Fan for Random battles as a joke*
I disagree with Archeops needing the ability Defeatist since there are still far more broken Pokémon out there.
By today’s standards, absolutely. In Gen 5, Pokemon with stats that good were an extreme rarity
bro really got sponsored by stumble guys 💀
get your bag king
For slow start use weezing
Truant on Durant is just a cruel joke. "True ant"
Early Bird Girafarig w/ Eviolite in Gen 9 LC was actually useful with a Calm Mind + Rest set
Girafarig in little cup with early bird+rest is decent since it’s bulky purely based on how it has more stats than everything else in the tier. Typically u see sap sipper tho since toedscool is everywhere
Tinkatink also makes great use of pickpocket in little cup since oran berry is a really good item and it lets u steal eviolite from pawniard.
Durant gets entrainment meaning it makes the opponent have its ability. Very niche but it’s something and only takes 1 turn to set up
I massively disagree the part with Oblivious that ability got buffed in Gen 8 it blocks intimidate now so no its not one of the worst abilities anymore
Stunfisk in the thumbnail reminds me of a 5 year old who is far too proud of the whoopi cushion prank he just pulled on his teacher.
Don't forget Delibird. With Insomnia and Vital Spirit being it's abilities, and early bird as the hidden ability! 🙄
actually Delibird's hidden ability is Insomnia, it's 2 normal abilities are Vital Spirit and Hustle...this gimmicky weak as hell bird has 2 abilities that do the exact same thing

Everyone: Limber sucks
Me, who always gets paralysis in the games' main campaigns: I wish all my pokemon had Limber
They probably put Truant on Durant because two purposes:
First: It's a pun
Second: I was during the time of Gen 6 when it was discovered that 30 percent of any group of Ants, no matter how many there are just slack off.
Oblivious got a buff in gen 9 to also grant immunity to intimidate
Truant is always on No.1 worst abilities... but i find it very useful in PVE battle..... Using Durant Truant and move Entrainment (giving enemy Truant ability) is very useful for setup like Gyarados Cloyster etc.... Protect Shell smash Protect Shell Smash Protect Shell smash.... its bad ability but its not useless for me..... its one of the most useful Ability to me...
