Hi Bill - I have my Fimi 2020, but have not flown it yet (very windy here). I have been testing the app and familiarizing myself with the controls and calibrations on my coffee table! Can't wait to try it out, but am cautious to wait for a still day. I am assuming that you had PL activated for both flights? If yes, then it seems that wind is, indeed, the important factor. I do have a question for you related to transferring photos/videos from the drone to my PC. Do you remove the micro sd card, or can you connect the drone to yor PC via the micro usb port on the side of the drone? I can certainly remove the card, but was thinking a cable from drone to PC might be easier? Regarding your footage, the still air flight was excellent! I particularly enjoyed seeing the cloud reflections on the lake surface. Thanks, in advance, for your help. Bob
Yes I did. The wind is a factor when taking off as it needs to record that landing pad otherwise it won't find it. I always take my card out, download it to my PC, then put the card back in. Thank you for the great comment and appreciate your support !
@@BillTheDroneReviewer Thanks. Looking forward to your new Fimi X8SE 2020 videos. I am very happy that I followed your lead (and Marcus') and purchased this through Banggood. Worth the wait.
I do the RTH precise landing and mines lands 99.9% in matter fact I don’t even need to bring the gimbal camera down. Thanks sooo much for sharing this great video with us brother Bill. Have a great evening Captain 👨✈️. Thanks for all you do and please keep flying.
Almost pulled the trigger on buying a Fimi X8 SE 2020 over the weekend. But a question arose re: prevalence if the other non-precision landings (aka losing a motor/seizing a motor) in flight comes up after watching Dyna Miko's stunningly beautiful 4k videos once more. He says it's happened 3X in 100 hrs of flying the FIMI X8, catastrophic to 3 different drones (33/hr MTBF!). Haven't you lost one? (ID Quadcopter, too, maybe Dustin Dunhill?) So I'm hearing that FIMI Customer Care is great and all, but still...
I've been flying dones for over three years and have not lost one. I make sure that after all firmware updates I calibrate the gimbal and compass before flying . I charge both the remote and batteries after each flight. I inspect the props both before and after each flight and if they need replaced I only use OEM props. I purchased a gimbal cover to protect the camera & gimbal. I use auto-takeoff and let it it rise up to it's pre-set height to see how it is performing before going on my flight. I hope this helps.
Two tiny drops of fully synthetic oil to the top and bottom motor bearings cage's is a good idea with any brushless motor quad. I thought common sense of least oiling the bearings every year or so, as bearings need lubrication but I guess not everyone is mechanically minded in these matters. I highly recommend it myself, never seized up a motor in anything or a single problem from doing so, just use care and good sense doing the job and everything is good.
Awesome Bill, This is a good bird. I felt bad for not flying my Air 2 so I took them both out today. I found myself flying the Fimi more, I just am pulling for this drone. We all know DJI works great. Nice to someone else do good...Stay Safe ..😎
Are you certain it takes a photo of the pad? I was under the impression it is simply looking for a round object in real time as it descends. I have manually taken off and went straight up without pausing and it was able to accurately hit the pad on rth. Could be luck I suppose, but I’m trying to determine if this pause following takeoff is a myth (based on the Dji protocol) or not. I believe the important thing is to have adequate satellites before you initiate takeoff. Be interested in others experience.
It might be that it has identified a round object on its decent, not that it is matching to a takeoff photo. I know the Dji protocols are based on a photo, I’m just not certain that is fimi’s protocol.
@@williambennon9607 it's not a picture I can verify that by my 2020. My parents had a round kiddy pool up and it was within about 20 feet of my orange helipad, did my takeoff manually and when it came back, in the screen I saw it acquired the much larger blue and white, round swimming pool even though it was coming down to the landing pad the pool is what it thought was the pad. I of course corrected that landing myself pulled it over to the pad and pushed auto land button and while directly over it, no issues then. But yeah try it with a round swimming pool nearby, you'll see 😆
I think you will find that the X8 PL is hit and miss regardless. The MA2 PL also has its off days as well. PL has always been a hot topic on RUclips but in the "Real World" it's just a fun gimmick. 90% of pilots will hand catch or manually take over for the final decent. As long as RTH comes close enough to see that I have not lost my drone... I'm happy. Even the Zino comes within a few meters. I will admit... the 2020 version is a little more consistent than the 2018. Here is a test for you... just for fun... Dont auto launch... just arm motors and take off immediately and fly out 100m or so... then hit RTH... I'd bet it would come back within a few meters of take off... enough to take control and catch. Give it a try :)
@@GorillamansGarage absolutely awesome, my 2020 X8SE likewise always every time within a foot max if take off point, 95% of the time lands centered on the helipad.
Ohh I forgot to mention, don't put the landing pad within 30' or so of a blue round swimming pool, it definitely will acquire the larger round target 1st and try to land there thinking it's a landing pad. Definitely doesn't match up with a picture Bill, but was a very good theory at that time ✌️.
Good morning Bill, no, still waiting on my landing pad from Banggood. Which shipped 76! Days ago. Will try it as soon as I get it. But I’m very happy with how close it lands to where it takes off already. Enjoyed your video. Thank you for the entertainment! Jeff
Hello Bill, I read about the Precision Landing function works fine only if the drone took off with the Auto-Take off function so I did this too but the Precision Landing function however didn't work. Do you use the Auto-TakeOff function by pressing the right botton on the Remote Controller or you use the Auto TakeOff function by hitting the icon on the Fimi Navi 2020 app?? However I tried to use both but once again it never showed me the "Landing Pad detected" message. I let the drone hoover for even 30 seconds (after I got the message "Auto-Take Off complete") cause I read on the web about hoovering once the AutoTake off was complete could give the Drone the time to focus the landing pad with the VPU camera at the bottom of the drone, but again I got the "Landing Pad not detected" message. Days ago I noticed one thing, when I turned my drone on (I was inside my home), I put the drone on the floor and beeing inside the home there were not any satellites catched. At the beginning I could read the message "Atti" (atti mode) on the upper part of the Fimi Navi 2020 app but when I put the EV value from "auto" to "+7" or to a greater value I suddendly got the "VPU" message (vpu mode). Do you think the Precision Landing could fail if the drone does the TakeOff from a not not well lit place? As soon as I will be able to come back from work not too late I think I will try to put the EV value to +7 or +1,0 before doing the AutoTake Off to see if this could help the drone to take the image and then catch the image of the landing pad with the VPU camera. Do you have any other useful suggestings or things to try to let the Precision Landing function finally works fine??? Thanks again and sorry if I wrote so much.
Is Precision Landing option turned on ? During landing if it's turned on you should be getting the message 'Landing Pad Detected' or 'Landing Pad Not Detected'. If your not getting either of them the Precision Landing option is not turned on.
@@BillTheDroneReviewer Bill as I wrote on my last message I always got the "Precision Landing npt detected" message cause of course the Precision Landing option is turned on already
Bill when you do the AutoTake off, you use it by pressing two seconds on the RC right button or you use the AutoTake off by pressing the Fimi Navi 2020 AutoTake off icon??
Hi Bill, I tried so many times to use the Precision Landing function on my Fimi X8 SE 2020, but it never worked fine, not even one time!!! I always receive the message "Landing Pad not Detected", I tried using a 80 cm landing pad with the "H", using both the orange side and the black side nothing to do!! I tried with another landing pad (75cm) using both the orange side and the blue side again nothing to do!!! I even tried using android phone and apple IPhone but nothing, always "Landing Pad not detected" message. My drone was built on May 2020. Do you think that could the landing pad never beeing detected could indicate a sort of VPU problem on my drone??I read the drone use the VPU camera to detect the landing pad. Can you please give me any suggestings trying to finally let the "Precision Landing" function works fine???Thanks again. Looking forward to receive some suggestings from you. Take care and thank for your help.
I use Auto Takeoff and let it hover at 13.1 feet for a few seconds before ascending. It needs to take a picture of the landing pad so it can recognize it latter.
