You sure this was a bad temp sensor? There is a TSB for 2017 Acadia and XT5 for replacing the thermostat. Usually throws fan on high, temp drops to “C” and then the steering assist warning/light comes on.
Hello and thank you for watching our videos. When it comes to this type of repair, we do not like to chance anything. If the thermostat and or the temperature sensor is faulty, we replace both of them. The labor is not something anyone wants to pay twice. We feel like it is the best option for our clients to replace both components at the same time to avoid a potential future failure.
Could you elaborate on this a bit more? I am experiencing exactly what you described on a 2017 Acadia. As a result, I am getting ready to replace the thermostat and sensor.
While GM's are not our forte, we believe these vehicles are a good buy. As with any vehicle purchase, we recommend a pre-purchase inspection to be completed by a trusted shop of your choice. Whatever the cost, the inspection is money well spent.
Hello. Replacing the temperature sensor is a good practice while replacing the thermostat. They are so close to each other and both parts eventually fail. Thank you for watching our video.
Have you ever thought about investing in a mic? I'm new here and i love your videos a bunch, but it's hard to hear you and i need to turn my volume up. A helpful tip, keep up the great work👍
I am having the same issue. But on my scanner, it reads ECT just fine. The cluster does not reflect the same temp. My scanner reflects the proper operation of the thermostat and temp sensor. So why does my scanner read proper temp but my cluster does not? Also when I lift the negative battery terminal for about a minute and reinstall everything clears and everything works properly?
This would be difficult to properly diagnose without being with the car. I guess it is possible to have a faulty component within the cluster. I do not see many of these cars but the temp sensor and thermostat has always been the fix so far. Thank you for watching our videos.
Good videos. TIP: Turn the phone you're using on its side and then press the record button so the phone records in landscape format. We (the viewers) will get a wide shot and no black bars up the side as it avoids the tall narrow aspect you're currently recording in. Thanks!
You are not the first one to recommend this. We are planning on recording all future videos in landscape. Thank you for the tip and for watching our videos.
Honestly, it has been too long since this video. I do not remember the detail of installing the new sensor. I feel like I used a short/stubby wrench or maybe a crows foot wrench to torque it down. Thank you for watching our videos.
I can't find a thermostat anywhere for a 2018 Acadia. Dealership says there's 8-10 cars in their shop waiting for a new one. Other gm part sites say the part is on National Control by GM. Any ideas on where I can find one?
This comment struck our interest. We did some searching with our local parts distributors and they are all out of stock also. So strange. Seems as if you would be lucky to find one of those right now. Thank you for watching our videos.
I got lucky and the dealership was able to find just one available. I’m about to attempt this repair tomorrow. Not looking forward to it since it’s time consuming but it beats paying for all the labor at a dealership
Hello Josh, If one of these two components fail, we replace them both because of the labor time to access the parts. There is no additional labor time to our client to replace both parts. We would hate to explain why we have to perform the same service again because we only replaced one component when both were accessible at the same time. This is "cheap insurance" for our client. Thank you for watching our videos
I just got a quote from a local shop of $1,100 to replace the sensor and thermostat. Yep. Way to go GM engineers. You should be forced to replace this before implementing any of your designs.
Well done, but could they make it any less accessible?

What is the price for this fix?
Questions is necessary to drain the coolant to replace the thermostat and the sensor
I’m planning to buy this card used one 2017.. what is your advise ?

Is it necessary to replace the thermostat when you replace the temperature sensor ?

Thank you for the tip and for watching our videos. We are always looking for ways to improve our videos.
Apparently a common problem. My 2018 started right after the warranty expired.
Thank you for the demo.

Is it the same engine as a 2017 Cadillac xt5 3.6?
I am not a Cadillac guru. I am not certain about that.

RUclips wants more vertical videos to compete with Instagram and tiktok. Maybe look into RUclips shorts.

I have it all apart, old sensor out... But I can't get the new one in. Any tips for that?

Great tips! Your video
helped me very much.
How much would you charge if you were to replace just the sensor ?
We feel like any shop should charge minimum 5 hours of labor time for this job.
Im a DYI guy and it only took me 3 hours.
What kind of light is that you’re using?
The light is sold at Harbor Freight. I have one, it's awesome.
How much did you charge for this to be done I'm being told $950
Hello and thank you for watching our video. The quote you received is a good price. We did charge more than $950.
My dealership wanted $2300
How long does this job take?
Hello, Thank you for watching our videos. A safe bet for this repair is 5 hours.
Why change the stat if the sensor is the problem?

@@premierautomotivediagnosti9432 that would make sense might as well replace both thermastat is not expensive it self anyways
How much for this to be done?
I live in East Texas and the dealership wants around $1200 for this job
Did you lose any coolant when performing this job?
Honestly it has been so long ago now, I do not remember that detail. I would expect to lose some coolant. Thank you for watching our videos.
All that for a coolant temp sensor?...
Yeah I’ll stick with my 1990 Cummins
GM really made a simple fix a 4 hour job, like really? A temp sensor and thermostat should not be buried. Way to go engineers
I just got a quote from a local shop of $1,100 to replace the sensor and thermostat. Yep. Way to go GM engineers. You should be forced to replace this before implementing any of your designs.
T-stat was more than likely still fine. This is GMC junk at its finest. Buy Japanese built, you won’t be knee deep in your engine at 60K miles.
I hate this freaking car more and more is there a drain plug for the coolant by chance?
Part numbers would be great
We did not record the part numbers on this job. With a VIN number, your local GM dealer can provide you with the related part numbers.
This is a terrible GM design, cost hundreds of dollars to change the thermostat of temp sensor. Stat costs about 30 dollars.
Obama motors trash 3.6. Strikes again 200$ of labor for a 30$ part
How do you get the temp sensor back in? I have tried everything. The threads won't start.
Those Acadias are pure junk.
