Buddy and I just replaced all steering components on the front end..still steering play. Gonna have to pull the sterring column and check the T25 bolt and intermediate shafts. Thanks for the great info and for pulling the keys eventually to get rid of that terrible dinging! Need some PB blaster on the rusty shaft to get it to slide.
Thank you sooooo much, man. I'm still going to do the intermediate shaft because im extra, but man, it's pretty much gome now. It was driving me nuts. Just redid the entire front end and still had play. The only thing left are those shafts you're the man for this.
My man you just saved me alot of head ache just bought a truck from a guy at work that need a front end rebuild so I did it and still steered like shit. You are a savior
Thanx Curt, Great info and instruct. Had a hard time convincing my son the problem was in the steering shaft or gear box. he insisted it needed alignment. Kudos to you for having your son Cameron there with you. Too many kids out there don"nt know anything about cars due to lack of parenthood.
Dude. I have a 96 Tahoe. My steering wheel has a lot of play. I changed the steering shaft. The same one you're getting. But that screw you just showed might be my main reason. I actually have to do another tie rod job again. But man, thanks on that. I new there was a issue with the column.
My Silverado is doing almost exactly this. I might replace the shafts and tight up the T25 nuts. Also you can adjust the worm gear on top of the steering box. It's a t25 too. You loosen the 5/8 nut, turn the t25 til it's snug, back it off a quarter turn and tighten the 5/8 nut. Thank you though. This confirmed a few suspicions
Amazing, I have had a sloppy wheel for over 7yrs now. Replaced everything and what would you know the T25 fixed it in 2 seconds. Thanks bro, bless you!
Just did the torxs on the steering wheel, and the slop is gone. It only cost a complete (moog) steering rebuild. Including steering shafts and steering box. Thank you very much
Didn't do anything for mine, screws were tight already. So mine is probably in Pitman arm Joint or drag link joint to steering box, I don't have play in my tie bar or rod ends. Really hoping it's not the box itself. The upper Steering shaft u-joint u are going to replace doesn't appear to have play on mine either just by looking down the column and wiggling it. Was excited for an easy fix on this one grrrrr. What can ya expect for a truck with half a million on it lol
Thanks for the video! I've replaced literally everything I could think of steering-wise and just replaced the powering steering rack. My truck feels like a boat while driving and will jerk kinda hard when turning. It is aligned and drives straight but the steering wheel just goes left and then right and is never aligned, I'm gonna try tightening the T-25 down and hopefully, my problems will go away God willing.
I have the same problem, my shop claimed that they couldn't find the right shaft and that they gave the dealer my vin number and the dealer sent them the wrong part and that they couldn't get the right part for my truck, well within 10 minutes of looking on the autozone website I found the right upper and lower shaft and the steering wheel colum bearing. You should replace that bearing while your at it, they have made a new updated better version of it, it's the while plastic piece above when the upper shaft bolts in. I already forked out a bunch of money and replaced my steering gearbox and that helped quite a bit but I still have a good amount of play in my steering wheel and it's irritating, I'm going to be replacing my lower and upper shaft plus my steering colum bearing while I'm at it plus I'm going to put on a new Bilstein 5100 series stabilizer and hopefully that solves the problem.
I loved seeing someone fighting that task like I did ! Man a trying experience. Now since I replaced the cheap bearing and upper shaft it has a hard spot (binding spot ) when I steer ! I’m still slowly evaluating toward checking the lower shaft . Not much info concerning my continuing issue . Thanks for posting your video .
If there's a stiff spot after it's likely they didn't shock the u joint shaft at the factory it was made in. After replacing a u joint u have to put the yoke on a vice or something solid and whack the other side of yoke to free up the bearing rollers in joint. They often bind after install. It kinda centers everything then moves freely.
Thanks for the vid brother. I tighten up those 2 bolts up on the steering column and I still have some play. Gonna recheck that lower steering shaft hopefully that's it! Thinking about just going with a new gear box if this doesn't work
Right on, I found some of my new Auto zone parts to still have some play and had to take a few things back. I'm definitely going to order parts from the heavy duty suspension guys online opposed to local parts store.
It also worked for 07-13 Chevy Tahoe. I was told I needed a whole steering column from a shop smh….now I need to figure out why it shakes at around 50-70mph
Yeah, I'm gonna be gettin into this job and the Worst part of the job that I'm Not looking forward to is contorting myself Under the dash..............
On an 08, I tried tightening them...but wheel still has a bit of play maybe screws need to be slightly longer??? Everything else is new, gearbox, 2 shafts, shaft bearing, 4 tierods, ball joints, UCA bushings, LCA bushings
My play seems to still be there after 1 week I had to replace the one of the parts I had just replaced. I'm going to order kryptonite parts next and pull all that autozone crap out
@@CurtARoll Yep autozone is usually cheap junk unless you're buying the name brand stuff. I went back in the steering wheel and checked screws again...1 I got another half a turn on. Apparently I either missed it or didn't tighten enough. Now the play is ALL gone...it's awesome, dropped the tire pressure to around 52psi and it rides pretty good compared to what it was. I made a new vid describing some of the common issues/fixes
I'm having a hard time lining up the top cover of the steering wheel and I don't wanna break anything. Any tips or tricks to get it to line up right? I got ahead of myself when I first saw the T25 trick and didn't look at anythinf before I went crazy with it 😂
Great video boss. Hey so i swap all my joins and rods every new like u spoke but my steering has still alot of play iam check that all those parts you mention. Well be replacing the new as i check. For a second i thought it was my gear box :( any ideas where to order my parts 2006 chevy silverado v8 5.3
Will this cause shaking at high speeds….I’ve had an alignment and tire balance done twice no change. My steering wheel is loose even when my Tahoe is off you can move it back n forth
Please people don’t do what this guy is showing you to do! First if you have zero skills buy a manual for your car and if at any time you get confused and cannot do for your car as it says just bring it to a certified mechanic! This guy is literally wasting your time! He can pull it apart but he does not understand what he is doing ! Look and you can prove it also!
Good info. I wonder if my 2014 1500 would have that same set up going down into the steering gearbox. Was your loose feeling in the wheel around the centered 12 o’clock position ??
It also worked for 07-13 Chevy Tahoe. I was told I needed a whole steering column from a shop smh….now I need to figure out why it shakes at around 50-70mph
🤣 I've been chasing this problem forever and I found your video. 15 minutes and it's back to normal. Good grief. Thanks!!
Glad I could help!

This is amazing! Steers like it’s brand new after 250,000 miles. Thank you!
Mine hase high mileage too, gonna take care of the steering gor sure

So was it your gearbox as well? @Daniellongoria3470
Thanks for sharing . Hopefully that'll take care of mine .
Bro!! finally I find the right video with the fix I needed for my truck!!! Thank you!
A trick: you can watch movies on flixzone. I've been using them for watching loads of movies recently.
@Jad Scott yup, been using Flixzone for years myself =)

Thanks for this! Replaced every single component up front on the truck and still had this problem. Took all of 2 minutes to get it nice and tight.
So tightening that screw on the column worked? Did u turn it a little or until it wasn’t able to no more.
@@brandonperez4847 kind of just snugged it up till it was firm
Till it felt tight
Thank you so much. I rarely comment on RUclips videos. But this did the trick. I really appreciate it.
I have this issue and you've given me the courage to attempt it myself thank you

Did you replace gearbox too?
@@adenseay7406 I didn’t replace the gear box, I replaced the pitman arm and tie rods.
What years does this work on?
What is the cost you paid? I got a sloppy steering with play but nobody could find the source.

Change the steering shaft bearing to, the green plastic bearing that atches to the stearing shaft it will also make for a smooth ride
Bro I got a month trying to find this clicking noise I F love ❤️ thanks a lot
Right on. I have a 1994 Z71 K1500.. I appreciate your info. Much Thanks
Glad I could help
im batttling a 99 suburban atm

It's super scary pulling a trailer and getting wobbly
Thank you for the DIY repair video, I have two Chevys awaiting shaft repairs.
Nice quick video thanks for the help bro!
MANE! Bout to tackle this as well on my Ram. Shid my cheap a$$ ain’t paying nobody to fix it. 😂😂😂Thanks for the vid famo
Lol I feel you
Great video man! Straight to the point and details about the tools
Perfect, now i know what to do. Thanks Kurt, great video.

Gonna try this tomorrow. I've replaced everything. It got way better but still has play this is my last hope.. 2004 suburban

how did it work out

The top plastic shroud you removed from the steering wheel from factory has three bolts from the bottom side that I believeis t15 or t20
Excellent video. Thank you, sir.
thank u brother,,, great info..
Replace that leaky hydroboost 👍🏿
Great video !
That's all I got left to do is shafts.

I did mine but they keep coming loose even tried locktite do you know what this is actually called because i cant find anything 😢
What was it that plastic staff you tightened?
Look guys all the sudden it just popped of when I was intending it to do so!
I’m so smart
Take the slack out of the steering box
Wrench and Allen wrench first could be worn worm gears in the box
I have a 2017 silverado 1500 and the steering wheel is loose. It only has just over 47,000 miles so I'm not sure why it would be loose already.
Figure anything out with it? I have the Same truck

Great Video Sir! I was able to find the intermediate shaft, but what is the lower part called? I couldn't find it on Rock Auto?
I think lower steering shaft. It should be in video or just google Silverado steering linkage or parts
So tightening that screw on the column worked? Did u turn it a little or until it wasn’t able to no more.
My steerings tight. Like it binds. Thinking it's U joints. How did yours feel? The ones you took out i mean.
GM discontinued the intermediate shaft for 1989 c1500 Silverado and I can't find aftermarket. Can anyone advise please.
Check another supplier there's another part number if I recall that works fine. Or google the part number.
Will this cause shaking at high speeds….I’ve had an alignment and tire balance done twice no change. My steering wheel is loose even when my Tahoe is off you can move it back n forth
Try wheel hubs
Will this work on my 98 Silverado? Thanks.
Anyone know if a 97 chevy has this?
Where did you find this out?

Alignment? Or tire rotation. I had that issue before it would wobble at 45mph just needed a Alignment.
